Running From Police "Often" A "Death Sentence," Former Cop Says
Earlier today we brought you the story of Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Abraham Martinez, whose flying jumpkick has now been officially enshrined in the annals of police dash cam history. As it turns out, we have The Austin American Statesman to thank for the footage. The newspaper recently took an in-depth look at the Texas DPS’ use of force during pursuits. Here’s an excerpt:
The trooper who shot and kicked him, Abraham Martinez, last year received a minor penalty for the incident — three days off without pay. Yet the fact that a traffic infraction could escalate into a lengthy, high-speed motorcycle pursuit ending in gunshots provides a graphic illustration of how a relatively permissive DPS culture of use-of-force during pursuits is out of step with evolving national standards, experts said. A leading researcher on police pursuits, University of South Carolina criminal justice professor Geoffrey Alpert, called the agency’s policy permitting troopers to shoot at fleeing vehicles “stupid.”
Fortunately, no one was killed in that particular incident, but as we’ve seen recently — the most poignant example being the shooting death of a fleeing, unarmed Walter Scott by a South Carolina officer earlier this month — running from the police can end fatally. Incidents like that which unfolded in South Carolina have inflamed already fragile race relations across the US and now, former Alabama state trooper Orrin Hudson has a simple message for African Americans who are confronted by the police: "I've said it before, and I'll say it again: In a situation with the police, it's not immediately about who is right or wrong, it's about staying alive.”
Here is the 6-year police veteran’s “Open Letter To Unarmed African Americans”:
Too many unarmed African American men are losing their lives to white police officers, and most of the time justice is not being served. But even if justice is served, a valuable life has already been lost…
1) Don’t run. Although running from the police should not be a death sentence, it often ends up this way. So don’t do it! Doing so will heighten the aggression of an officer, especially if he/she is not sure if you are armed. It also puts them in a position where they have to make spur-of-the-moment decisions, which increases the chance of an officer deciding to end your life. So stay put!
2) Show respect at all times. A police officer’s duty is to serve and protect, but if he/she is out of line or bullying you, continue to be respectful. Say “sir” and “no sir,” and “may I” and “thank you!” These will keep the situation from escalating. If the officer is violating your rights in any way, you can fight this matter at a later and safer time.
3) Keep your hands where they can be seen. Do not make the officer feel threatened in any way. At all times, keep your hands visible. Many police officers, especially white police officers, will feed into stereotypes. They may be assuming that you have a weapon just because you are Black or because they feel you look like you are up to no good!
4) You have the right to remain silent. If you feel that you are being wrongfully arrested, you do not have to speak on it as this likely will not change the officer’s mind. Keeping quiet protects you legally, and also keeps the situation calm and peaceful.
5) Sign the ticket and leave. If you are being pulled over for speeding, simply sign the ticket and leave. Signing the ticket does not mean that you are admitting guilt; its only a promise to appear in court on the date listed on the ticket. Arguing with the officer about it will only make the situation worse, and perhaps raise his level of aggression.

Are you really ready for the sad part? The PUBLIC pays for those beat downs & the scumbag lawyers end up getting a large chunk of it... Not to mention the constant feeling of the need to "dissappear" pressing on the victim kneck like a monkey on their back... (MegaFacepalm.jpg)

So was running from the Gestapo.
Things will get real interesting when the American people begin to stand their ground against the gun and badge thugs' treason and tyranny.
I personally won't run, but will collect names until it is more permissible to stand my ground.
In other news from the land of treason and tyranny:

"Sergent, why did you shoot the perp in the face? Because he wouldn't turn around and let me shoot him in the back. It was his choice."
I would hazard a guess that not even the Gestapo were ever as Cowardly as the cops participating in this disposal of one of society's "undesireables", a homeless black man with a mental disability!

Dear Thug Orrin Hudson,
You, and the rest, take an oath to uphold the Constitution.
The flip side of that oath is Article 3, Section 3, treason. "It's the law."
Additionally, Nuremberg Principle IV states that "following orders" is not a defense for any crimes committed by you.
You will be held accountable, as we, the American people, are "watching, and listing."
Sincerely, and cold regards.
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.
(CAAPL) - Treason List
In addition to the Four Rs, the American people should be compiling a list, call it the Crimes Against the American People List (CAAPL)?? A list of known pol, crat, functionaries (funcs), and bankster criminals that they are aware of.
Oath violating and treasonous gun and badge thugs, corrupt pols and crats, thieving banksters, etc. should be placed on it. At a minimum, their names, victims, crimes, and positions, should be kept for future reference for accountability, trial, and punishment.
When the DC US finally collapses, these lists can then be used to root out the known criminals that will think that they can hide among their victims--no "Truth and Reconciliation," and no quarter.
Excellent idea..!!

He should've armed himself... -William Munny
If these videos came out of a major Russian city, showing militia beating, tazering, running down with cars, choking and shooting many times un-armed suspects, the western media would run them every day on prime time news. They would demand a UN investigation and even a international law case brought against the Russian administration.
Yet, if it happens in the land of the free, it is not worthy of note. In fact, the vicitms have it coming, anyoman no obeying orders at once must be killed. You know how insane that is? Death for failure to follow a cops orders. If you fail to, then once you are caught, you will have a serious resisting arrest charge, and much jail time. But NO, easier for the cop to gun them down. Un-armed people gunned down, this is the stuff on Nazis.
It's the 'Stuff' of an Authoritarian State. And it could be argued that Nazi's didn't have shit on the Cheka police, or Mao, or Fidel, or Pol Pot's death squads. In fact, it could be argued quite succesfully, that the 'Nazi's' cut their teeth on what they learned from the Cheka.
Jack,
Have you ever lived in Russia?????
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HOHOHOHOHOH
HAHAHAHAHA
The state controls all the news. You just never hear about it. If you do (or have) lived in Russia...just look out the window. You'll see plenty of 'Wild, wild, East.'
You made my day.
Actually it is you that seem to have had the wool pulled over your eyes by oligarch and state run american media.
Face it...the US IS the police state. Not Russia...but a police state would try to cover their crimes by creating propaganda about how "bad" others are. Look around you.

Nah, those porkers just hate running, end of story... (Too much work)
"Mr. Hudson now runs a non-profit organization that seeks to promote better decision making among urban youth and adults."
The article simply confirms what most with a lick of common sense already know. There are certain personality types/traits that gravitate towards this type of 'public service', and those personality traits not coincidentally, are what these agencies look for in the applicant as well. It comes as no surprise then, that the overriding theme of Mr. Hudson's article here is to 'submit' to Force, no matter the circumstance, no matter who is at fault. You are subordinate to the Public Servant. Like the sound of that...?
Systems just degrade. In the case of public service, enough of a particular personality trait combines with certain experiences common to a given job. Once it reaches critical mass... it is game over. Just a matter of time. It is past this point that no reform will work. It is just too late.
This same argument can be applied to cops, DC, and the public itself, etc. Is why when the defication really hits the rotary oscillator, the blame will be everywhere and on everyone.
Liko Kenny had a bad inspection sticker and he was relentlessly chased and rammed (in gross violation department policy) after multiple incidents over the years with an abusive cop.
He killed the cop who had a history of excessive force.
RIP LIKO
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF-BtESLEsU
State Attorney General (and now Senator) Kelly Ayotte swept it under the carpet and never prosecuted the violent felon who came along and murdered Liko with the cops gun immediately after. It's a story worth knowing.
When enough citizens are terrorized like Liko was, the people will snap.
I agree, don't run, deal with it later, you don't know if the policeman may be jacked up on steroids
Steroids don't "jack you up". More likely they're high on cocaine and adrenaline, probably have a few beers in em too.
You don't know anything about steroids, obviously.
What kind are you talking about, there's a wide variety. Cortizone for example is a steroid, I've never seen anyone "jacked up on cortizone injections. Also are you referring to jacked up as in, mental state or physical state. If you're talking about mental well that's just patently false, there's no such thing as roid rage...chances are you were a complete dick before you started taking steroids and now you just act like a douche because you're bigger. If you're referring to physical then yes I guess you could be jacked up on steroids...sure.
anabolic steroids
http://chronicle.augusta.com/news/crime-courts/2014-11-01/police-and-steroids-hard-control-hard-prove
Steroids affect more than the liver; they also attack the psychological state of the user. “Steroids also have psychological or emotional effects on people who use them. Users often experience mood swings… Researchers have also noticed changes in brain wave activity in steroid users”

To keep this PONZI alive the BanksterCorps have given their blessing to the one in ten and need to be taken down.

..."if he/she is out of line or bullying you, continue to be respectful. Say “sir” and “no sir,” and “may I” and “thank you!” REALLY? That just enables them.
"Show respect at all times..." ROFLMAO
I'll say it again: Respect is not fear and fear is not respect.
Modern Murikans erroneously conflate fear and respect. Hell, our world diplomacy is run on fear that we laughingly call respect... which is why we are so lovvvved these days.
While fear can easily be earned with threats of violence,,, Respect has to be earned.
The statement should read "Show fear at all times..." as it is more appropriate.
Say “sir” and “no sir,” and “may I” and “thank you!”

THANK YOU!
You are apparently not too bright and are probably one of those people that like to state loudly, "THE POLICE CAN'T DO THAT!!!". The described level of courtesey got me out of seven tickets in a row over a three year period. That saved me over $1000 in fines and probably even more in auto insurance costs. It finally failed to work with a FEMALE state trooper when I was clocked at 85mph in a 60mph zone. Do what you want, but I prefer to spend my money on fun as opposed to fines. Also, the police can do whatever they choose. They may, or may not, suffer repercussions later. But, that is later. Usually, well after you had the shit beat out of you and spent some time in a cell.
Goodie for you. Sounds like a nice town.
PS. Stop breaking the law. You are a danger to society.
You are the epitome of what results from making assumptions. These ticketable encounters happened in various states and in various types of demographical areas. I live in a sizeable metro area, and I can assure you, it is not nice. Cops are pretty much the same everywhere, just like most of their fellow humans. Try to seek anger management counseling and ask for a brain for your next birthday.
"Mr Hudson now runs a non-profit organization that seeks to promote better decision making among urban youth and adults."
What a colossal waste of time. Negros have already proven their inability to live in civilized society over and over again no matter what part of the world they find themselves. "Amicable" is simply not in their lexicon wether dealing amongst themselves,( 93% of black murders are black on black), or dealing with people outside their group.
You are confusing race with ethnicity.
Lotsa blacks in Ukraine, I suppose.
People often comment that the law enforcement officers are the personal protection force for the elites. This is quite incorrect. I have personally known many officers from various branches of law inforcement due to the fact that I have several relatives and in-laws that are, or were, employed in the law enforcement profession. What I have gleaned from these relationships is that officers do not see themselves as protectors of the elites. They see themselves as members of the "brotherhood" of law enforcement. They rarely feel compelled to enforce laws when violated by another member of said "brotherhood". They stick together tenaciously and vigourously protect their own. It is a wide spread and deep seated "us against them" mentality. All law enforcement personnel being the "us" and EVERYONE ELSE is "them". Sadly, every officer I have ever known, despises black people. I have heard them argue amongst themselves about who hates (insert politically incorrect African American reference here) the most. If you look at the demographic that causes officers the most trouble, in a impartial light, you can understand this serious level of racial discrimination. That doesn't make it right, but it is what it is. By the way, they also hate lawyers and judges nearly as much. This hatred is a result of them constantly having to arrest the same criminals over, and over, and over again, because they are back on the streets quickly as the result of lawyers and judges doing what lawyers and judges do. The sad fact is, if humans are involved, there will be trouble.
you never paid attention in history class, did you. if the usa police force is here to serve and protect(supreme court says otherwise), it is the first police force ever assembled to do that. police are enforcers for the state, period. they may gets cats out of trees and help old ladies cross the street but their primary function is the state's bodyguard. they are the people's enemy. treat them accordingly, just as this officer suggests.
You read that?
Damn it, you almost made me spit my coffee all over my monitor.. :D
They are the retail level distrubutors of the States main product: violence.
You are confused. There is no USA police force. But, since you present yourself as an authority with your history class reference, please substantiate your ludicrous remarks with links to supporting sites or documents. I am rather certain such sites and documents do not exist. I especially want to see the Supreme Court decisions or statements you allude to. Do hurry.
Interesting insight. There's a retired cop in our extended family also, and he fits into what you describe.
He also cited the violent crime stats, which predate but are consistent with those cited in ZH on a remark made by NYC Mayor Bloomberg (who said that most violent crimes were committed by young blacks), and that these crimes as usually drug/vice related... and Zip-code specific.
So, PC aside, assuming that cops know the crime stats better than most people -- and they do -- then it is not unreasonable to "play the odds", insofar they use the "Working Assumption" that a black youth may be dangerous. This does not excuse their illegal and immoral behavior, as we've seen in recent months, but it gives valid context to what they're faced with in their daily duties.
I happen to live in a nice suburban area, where we have Community Watch, we know our community cops and wave 'Hi' to them on occasion, and they nod or wave back. Interestingly, the crime rates are extremely low in our Zip-code.
the only way to turn the tables is to make the cops fear for their lives. most of them are just bright enough to figure out a job is not worth dying for even if the extorted retirement is golden.
Anytime you her a law enforcement officer say we are here to serve and protect just stop listening or reading because he or she has no fucking idea of what they are talking about. The Supreme court has said in multiple cases it is NOT THE JOB OF THE POLICE TO PROTECT YOU. Their job is to enforce codes and arrest law breakers only. If their job was to protect you and you were hurt or killed then the police would be sued on every call.
The reason most people run is because these dickheads falsified records, lie under oath, use drop weapons, beat people for no reason. What we are finding out is most of the cops who are doing these acts have already been caught screwing up.
Pigthugs are revenue-generators for their precinct, plus 'muscle' with a badge for any poltiician who can direct them. That's it.

Tragic.
If I were the cop who did it, I would not sleep well and keep looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life... knowing that the wheels of justice and circle of life keeps turning. This would be especially true if the poor kid was Latino or of ME background, where Justice eventually comes to town. That's why I don't understand why some cops are so quick to shoot. What stupidity, what hubris.
"A police officer’s duty is to serve and protect,...". Either this former cop is ignorant or lying or both. A cop's SOLE duty is to Uphold and Enforce the Law(s). Period. Any so-called serving & protecting is a 'benefit' of that sole duty. The Serve and Protect is just a motto, a slogan. Try to successfully sue a cop, a police department, a city, a county, a state, or any government agency of the basisi of failure to serve and protect.......
They have no legal obligation to protect. The only time they are legally obligated to protect you is when you are in their custody (hand cuffs, back of their car, in their lock-up, etc.)
I don't care a rat's arse how many human cops series HollyHood spews out , they're way way off the real beat.
How proud the Founding Fathers must be: US police are now so dangerous, retired officers have to write open letters warning the rest of the populace about how to stay alive if you encounter one.
Seems to be common sense, when you see a wild animal, don't you act with extreme caution?

How To Not Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR465HoCWFQ
I dont give a tinkers damn about skin color. It is blue on black/white/brown/yellow/red. 40 years ago at the tender age of 19 I was in a local watering hole with a girl friend and a very drunk off duty cop kept harrassing her while i was up shooting pool. I asked him politely more than 3 times to leave her alone as she wouldnt say shit if she had a mouth full. On returning from the restroom he had forced himself into the booth on same seat as she was sitting and had her well pinned against the wall. That was enough. I asked him if he wanted to deal with this there or outside and he said outside. As he went out the door I saw him reaching inside his jacket and he pulled out a snubnose revolver. I kicked his kneecap as he turned around and kicked the gun away from him.
As things turned out I was arrested for assaulting a police officer and upon my arrival at lockup 5 or 6 and to this day I am not sure of the number proceeded to kick and punch me in a four man size lockup cell with feet , fists and nightsticks. I was on the ground and fearing for my life when i heard the familiar voice of a cop who i went fishing with from my neighborhood. He said next guy touches him is a dead man.
Since it was a Friday night I sat in lockup until the following Monday for a court appearance. I had several chipped teeth, bruised ribs and both eyes swollen damn near shut. My cop buddy when my name was called asked the judge if he could approach the bench and next thing I knew he was walking me out to his car. The legal drinking age at that time in my state was 18 so I was breaking no laws. The matter went silently away. Not wanting to shame my family I never pursued any charges. Today I would probably own that city's coffers. For the next ten years until that bastard retired he harrassed me and all of my younger siblings as they grew up and began driving.
Don't think for a blink that there are not more of them than there are of you. You will not win. I have done ride alongs. I have seen what kind of bullshit they put up with. I also wouldn't have their job. The off duty cop carrying heat and very obviously drunk and being served never came up in court.
Yes sir/maam. Hands where you can see them. And doing as asked is easiest. Is it always right? No. Is it worth loosing your life or your teeth over? No. I have been shoddily treated and lied to in a courtroom over a speeding ticket situation very recently where a prosecutor openly lied to the judge with video to back it up. I wrote the judge a letter and just politely asked him to view the video. The prosecutor had asked my wife for the ticket we were protesting after she told him she had given it to that guy at the table. When the judge asked him to see the ticket he said he had no such ticket.
Having said that, if the courts are just as bad as the bad apple street cops what do we have left. We have long ago as a society left the realm of integrity and honest. Justice? You decide. Where do we go from here? We will all find out together. My cop buddy I am certain if not saving my life that night surely saved me from probably permanent disability as when he entered the lockup they were showing no signs of letting up and i was on the floor.
Walk wisely folks. All I can say. I don't recognize my country any longer. Sad. Good evening all.
The ones who beat you up are still awaiting their justice.
Did that pig disappear in a mysterious accident years later?
Everybody knows, if the police have to come and get you, they're bringing an ass kickin' with them.
2)...."A police officer’s duty is to serve and protect,"
Fucking bullshit right there. They certainly do not "serve" and are not obligated by law to "protect"
Bullshit.
You don't even know what they protect you against, seriously, I've met them face to face, and they are something extremely evil...
But wait till they let them all go or when the gov. can't pay the salaries of cops or guards, then you'll understand...
(But by then, it will probably be far too late...)
The older I get, the more I favor term limits for all governmental positions of every stripe.
The country has gone a long way down hill since the old "spoils system" was replaced with permanent government employees.
I suggest that the internal department guidelines in police departments are making law enforcement chaotic and leads to over-stressed officers. Sort of like the Afghan/Iraq military rules of engagement...or like Truman trying to tell MacArthur what end of a bridge to bomb.
An External Public Review Board of citizens will resolve this BS real fast, cross the line, bye bye, no further questions...
It will work until the citizens find themselves being followed 24/7 by mysterious drones.
Michael 'Gentle Giant' Browne was a 'valuable life'?
Some one should point out to this pos that it's the behaviour of 800,000 cops that needs to be changed rather than that of 100 million men
homie is assuming blacks can actually understand this sage advice
most of them cannot
Can fat white fucks understand this sage advice?
In them its instinctive
I'd love to see a police entrance exam although i'm fairly confident mental dexterity is not a common theme running through it.
From my high school acquaintances who joined the force most were 3rd grade students, one rung up from 4th grade army cadets.
My uncle ( nice chap ) was an inch too small to get into the police ( which hurt him ) and my cousin, his son, has served 4/5 stints in Iraq was considered the thick fuck in the family.
My theory is that most of the police have been bullied at school or held an inferiority complex due to being exposed throughout school as fairly dumb. On dawning the badge they then spend the rest of their careers bothering the life out of the folks who didn't give them the time of day at school.
Obviously there are exceptions to my theory, however , like & like stick together to overcome individual imbalances. Brothers in arms an' all that.
This advice is excellent. Its not about right or wrong its about diffusing a dangerous situation with cowardly brutes in order to stay alive so as to deal with them later, on your terms, not theirs.
Stay respectful, answer in monosylables, tell no stories, answer minimally, keep your hands in plain sight, move slowly, and do what the brute tells you. Unless you plan to risk killing or being killed in a confrontation, this is the least risky course of action.
Better that 12 men should judge you than 6 men carry you.
Do the cops really want to fight this war they have declared against the people?
Why do colored folk( ex. Orrin Hudson) insist on communicating to anybody who will listen, what a white person thinks or acts like? I myself have no clue what non-white folk think or act like in any given circumstance just because I have lived around them since birth........oh yeah...... they are untermensch.
No one trusts police anymore. Congrats pigs! And, no, I won't call them when in trouble, ever.
What kind of American runs?
I suspect being a run of the mill - average blue uniform cop would be a shitty job.
Long hours of nothing punctuated by brief moments of violence.
It would be like being the guy that takes your money at a toll booth most days
Then every couple years - maybe not even that often - some guy shoots at you at a traffic stop.
They have to hire people with a low IQ because anyone that is even half way smart would eat their gun after doing this job for a few years. So when these low IQ types are faced with a real problem they will have trouble figuring it out.
IOW, Bow to your [racist, fat, uneducated, inferiority complexed] masters, it can save your life! This was a public service announcement.
Open letter to sorority girls, college hotties and in general any other hot woman out there....
We can all agree that an encounter with a rapist should not end in your death but too often it does. When encountering a rapist is not about who is right or wrong but about surviving the event. Therefore:
1. If a man starts to rape you, don't run. I know that it is your first instinct is to protect your life and well being but all you are doing is infuriating the rapist or worst, turning him on,so just don't do it. Hold still and let it happen. You can deal with he right or wrong latter in court, the now is about surviving the encounter.
2.Keep your mouth shut. Don't say anything that could escalate the situation. You can moan or make admiring comments about his manhood in the hopes of getting him off faster but, never antagonize him.
3.Keep your hands to your side. Scratching in order to collect DNA is not the best way to stay alive. Just take it with your eyes close, if you must but do not attempt to resist.
and last
Pull up your panties and leave. Don't threaten, follow in order to get a better ID or scream for help. You can get help at the hospital and the rape crisis center latter, now is not the time.
There, I fixed it....
Yes it's good advice, but it's a relatively new thing in American culture that cops are this free with their guns. Especially over the last fifty to a hundred years, cops have mostly tried to live up to some level of "professionalism". That's all history now.
Is it a result of permissive courts that just let offenders go, or something else? I dunno. I think the current kill-the-suspect mindset has developed heavily just since about 2008 as a spin-off from the homeland security mindset. No that doesn't make a lot of sense, but tell me whether that's about the right timeframe.
theyre using their guns with freedom because that's how the israelis use them in palestine
".......it's a relatively new thing in American culture that cops are this free with their guns......."
Many seem to think so, but this is Flat Wrong.....
The History of Our American West Proves it......

Then, as Now, Some Have it, Some Don't.
I'd suggest, as I have in the past, to go after the officers. The brass running this shit show. Bypass the peons and go after upper management.
Dependence on cops usually ends badly. A traffic accident I had in March had a nasty side-effect of an unnecessary citation. Instead of paying the filthy thing, I took it to court! The Assistant DA got it dismissed as the officer didn't show up to court on the date and time as I had done, and the other parties involved were satisfied with the insurance company's settlements. There were no other vehicles involved in this ice-related mishap, and the only victims were a lot of barbed-wire fence and a huge stop sign which kept me out of another ditch, spare the damage to my vehicle, yet that was totally repaired and I suffered not a scratch.
How to act? There's no reason to run in the first place, and yes, the System and Courts will give you your say in the matter, if they're legitimate, unlike the predatory assholes, paper stampers and general mouth-breathers at the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, their Little Rock office in particular.
The officer's excuse for the ticket? It was something the State was pressuring the troopers for enhanced enforcement. My state has such hypocricy at times with idiots we've elected who unmask their true colors at the expense of their constituents. At least on the local level, I'm satisfied I've elected the right Judge and DA who made the correct judgements.
Yes sir,thank you sir...may I have another?
Good thing this article was posted to remind people to excercise basic common sense.
I think folks just need to learn to suppress the "run from the popo" instinct and by and large, shootings should become less frequent.
The police protect the government that is their main job
.
the rest of the time they try to deal with "loosers"
Rule #1: Do not talk to police. Immediately ask for a lawyer. Police are able to lie to you and use other deceptive techniques. The only way to protect yourself from such situations is to have a lawyer present. Even having a semi-competent legal aid lawyer is better than talking to police on your own. Do not give in to their comments that only guilty people ask for lawyers, simply state that only idiots that don't know the law and the way police operate would speak to police without a lawyer. If you are brought in for questioning of any sort, even if you aren't guilty, ask for a lawyer.
