Knife Regulation Arrives: This Is The US Government, Hard At Work
When it comes to the contents of the TPP, the most important law of Obama's second term, merely leaking its contents to the press can have result in imprisonment or treason charges, which, considering recent revelations that a substantial portion of the bill was drafted by and for the express benefit of pharmaceutical companies, was to be expected: when the US population learns that their elected legislators not only don't read the laws they "pass", but are merely bribed figureheads that don't even write them, the resultant collapse of the "democratic" process would be unpleasant.
And yet, other laws such as S.1315, are perfectly transparent and open. So, with nobody in Congress drafting the TPP (and apparently not even able to pass it, despite corporate backers' demands), here is a vivid example of the US government, hard at work.

S. 1315 would allow people to possess knives in states where they are illegal if the person is travelling to and from states where the knife is legal, if the knife is secured, or if the knife is a safety blade designed for cutting seatbelts. Based on information provided by the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, CBO estimates that implementing S. 1315 would have no effect on the federal budget. Because enacting S. 1315 would not affect direct spending or revenues, pay-as-you-go procedures do not apply.
S. 1315 would impose an intergovernmental mandate as defined in the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act (UMRA) by preempting some state and local laws related to possessing and transporting knives. Laws regulating knives vary from state to state. The costs for state and local governments to comply with that mandate would include the cost to change protocols and train law enforcement officers. CBO estimates the total costs for state and local governments would be small and would not exceed the threshold established in UMRA ($77 million in 2015, adjusted annually for inflation).
Yes, it would cost US taxpayers $77 million to "protect" knife owners, and yes if you own a knife, you too may be considered a threat.

I have always identifed and considered myself a knife for as long as I remember. Therefore, I would exempt myself from any law or regulation that would restrict or prohibit me as a knife to carry or possess myself as a knife which I identify as a person - for as long as I can remember. Knife.

This is just an excuse to reinforce the ability of police to search you and your car. If a cop sees a knife on the back seat, or on your person, then you get strip searched. Of course, a cop won't know if you have a knife in your trunk or glove box -- unless you are like a handful of idiots that say -- "sure officer, go ahead and search my car, my illegal knife if under that blanket"!

Translation: The DC US does not have the legal power to pass or impose S.1315, that power resides with the people and the states. Period.
Ditto for guns. The 2nd. amendment is NOT the only word on guns, but the 9th. and 10th. are as well.
Then there is Article 3, Section 3.
Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.
Tyranny is death or imprisonment for those who demand.

And there you have it. States can oppress their citizens and people passing through with restrictive knife laws. Wonderful. Of course, .gov could apply a law like this for commercial purposes, allowing knife distributors to pass through with illegal knives.

Seems there is a reading comprehension deficiency here.
There are knives that are legal in some states but not others. This bill says you can transport your knife that is legal in your state through a state where the knife is illegal.
I fail to see the stupidty of the bill or any conspiracy behind it. The bill does not regulate knives. It preempts state laws as they apply to out-of-state travelers.

It's worse than that.
Any stick of about 1.5kg (3lbs) swung at around 120kph (~90mph) will connect with an energy of around 1200 Joules when you smack someone with it. That's only a bit less than your average .223 round fired from an AR15.

The general category of knives, are legal in all 50 states, so we know this is about certain blades whether of length or switch blades which are illegal in some states and legal in others. But I don't really understand ZH interest in this one instance of government over-regulation? There are plenty of other more outrageous examples every day to choose from.
I hope everyone realizes that if USA citizens were allowed their own Second Amendment right to carry knives onto the airplanes they travel in, 911 could not have occured, and any future repeat of 911 could not occur. But I don't remember any member of Congress, any President or ex-President, any Secretary of Defense or FBI head or CIA head or TSA head, or any Supreme Court Justice ever having a moment of sufficient personal courage to publicly note this "slam dunk" fact.
