The Beast
I grew up in the deep south of the United States, and the neighborhoods were de facto segregated. I was never taught racism, however, so in elementary school when I invited a black kid over to my house, he asked: "Will your parents mind?" I seriously didn't know what he was talking about. "Why would they mind?" He replied: "Because I'm black."
Well, I brought him over anyway, and we had a good time. Here in California, when people learn I'm from Louisiana, they assume I'm a bigoted redneck. The irony is that I've found the wealthy suburbs of the Bay Area to be far more racist than I ever knew in Louisiana. The zillionaires in Atherton are perfectly supportive of the coloreds, as long as they stay in East Palo Alto, as God intended.
Anyway, this whole shooting business down in South Carolina brought all this to mind for me. I was particularly shocked by the fact that Dylann (and right there, the spelling shows something is off with this kid) killed not just people at a church, but people with whom he had spent an hour at Bible study. How in the hell can you be sitting there with fellow humans, particularly reading from the Bible, and still push yourself into killing them? The amount of hate crawling through his soul must be mind-numbing.

There's no "conversation" that would have stopped Dylannnnnnn from slaughtering these innocents. And as for the calls for him to face the death penalty - - - no. You really want to level the playing field against this person's soul? Have him spend the rest of his days on earth having to face one stranger - a different one each day - for half an hour to talk about what he did. A lifetime of staring bald-faced into this act of evil is more appropriate than just filling him full of chemicals and giving him eternal rest.

However in the year it came out it was dynamite, instantly explosively popular and remains something of an anthem from that era. Hence why Keith sought to do it justice, as like me, I'm sure he remembers where he was the first time he heard it. I was on the front bench seat of a two-tone blue EK Holden sedan in the town of Mackay NQ. I only had to hear the first verse to be hooked and it affected my parents and siblings in the same way. Tom, it strikes me as so bizarre that a man, just because he doesn't fit the corporate mold could be branded as an insane killer. I found him to be anything but. However, he was judged and no other consideration was contemplated and I couldn't dissuade this.

There are reasons to not use the death penalty in this nation due to the disturbing number of innocents that end up on death row due to our broken justice system. But when someone confesses to such a crime as this, it is the only just desert. As for his "suffering" from life imprisonment, don't count on it. Evil men often bask in the notoriety of their crimes.
I'm with the SSRI comments. (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). Pretty common class of drugs for mental health. Most people who take them benifit, but a few just "lose it" when takeing them. Most of the non-sexual serial killers (and more to the point, allmost all of the "Randomly Shoot people you don't know/everybody in the room type killers) are taking SSRI's. (This is probably one of the big reasons we seem to have more of these shootings that in the past, SSRI's diden't exist in the past). Problem is that SSRI's are usually effective, only a very small percentage of the users lose it while taking them, and it would be quite unprofitable to put in place enhanced monitoring for people who are actively using SSRI's. (If you are using SSRI's and are having problems, you probably have a wealth of personel deamons available to blame, pick one which matches the agenda you want to push in the press, and keep very quiet about the SSRI's least you cut into somebodies profit margins...).
It's not the taking of SSRI's in general that appears to be a threat to society--it's prescribing them to adolescents and young adults that are horrificly fucked up. The common thread that goes along with the SSRI taking batshit crazy killer club is that they are young. Will the big pharma industry look into it at that angle? I'm not holding my breath.
If only one in a thousand has a bad side effect and there are are 15 million taking the drug, you have 15,000 potenial serial killers. Funny how the numbers work about drugging everyone who has a depression, big or small. Chantix, the anti smoking drug, can have bad side effects, so it is not jusr SSRI's.
Bad side effects affect 1 in 10 or more. The meds don't work at all for 30 - 40%. Fortunately only a tiny percentage harm themselves or others, still this amounts to thousands every year.
1. Perhaps he was on psycologist-forced mood-affecting drugs. Common with this sort of thing. And worrisome. As a psychologist said re. even anti-depressants, that there have been cases where they made the problem worse.
2. The guy must have been a serious mental case. A Christian church service, if he was seeking to strike back at Black racists, is not a good place to find low end Blacks. Large inner cities with high numbers of broken Black families and related disfunctional people is where racist, hate-filled Blacks are more common.
Besides, it is not the skin color that is the problem, it is one's thinking.
Hate without just cause is too encouraged these days.
Anger is easy. Love, kindness, tolerance and patience is hard...but by far the better choice.

Actually, as a father of a sweet little Down syndrome boy, and interacting with others in this community, there is less predilection for violence among these kids than the general norm. Also, there is no relation between the kind of error in trisomy 21 and the kind that appear with inbred genetic errors. Not offended, just informing.
Children with Down Syndrome tend to be more empathetic and emotionally intelligent , just lack in other cognitive functions.

What we know and see is a physical material cosmos, that's infinite, that we are an implicit part of, and anything more than this is your imagination projecting, based on some implanted wishful-thinking.
This person will not regret his actions any more than a shark eating a fish for breakfast a month ago ponders the morality of violently eating it.
We don't live in a world of morals, instead we live in a world where people imagine they live in a world of morals, guilt and conscience.
And being honest about these things is not pleasant, and not easy, and very few have the capacity to face it squarely, but I welcome it when compared to the versions of 'reality' imposed by the society, that that guy had clearly rejected, in a violent and completely resolute and decisive way.
What you are viewing is an extreme act of rejection of the social environment and the culture around him.
There are reasons why this guy ended up thinking this way, and a part of that reason is natural variability of the genome and the randomness of circumstances.

No, I'm sure you wouldn't. But it will be a key part of why this occurred. In an infinity you have infinite variation as a matter of course. A society attempts to carve-off the bits it does not like in our variability to fit us into the cookie cutter, or else to scare and threaten us into the cookie cutter mould, and some people in that infinite variability will never go into the mould the society imposes on them.
And occasionally you will get a person like this young man.
Given some time, maybe he would have settled down and not done it, but this is a part of infinity, the fact that life produces diversity is something we have to face and not pretend this guy is 'evil' or soul-less, or some other meaningless delusional label, the sorts of words we used to attach to sharks, before we came to understand that they were simply being what they are. They can't be any different to what their genome and environment produced.

What we "know" and "see" is a mental construct.
If a material meteorite falls on your constructor, it may need reconstructing.
There's a difference between the material world that actually causes bruising to a material body, and the illusory perception construct that we make of it, abstractly, as a recalled memory.
It's the bruises and blood of interactions with the matter, in this case a 'space' 'rock', that demarcates the distinction between our 'asleep' dreaming of a construct, and our 'awake' dreaming perception.
Both asleep and awake are dreaming states, but only one of them will break your bones, if you fall over in the perceptual dream construct.
If you want to argue if material bones breaking are also a construct, I can only suggest to you to do that physical experiment, and report if you feel it was materially expressed in you, 'for real'.
You will find that the body itself, at that moment, will not be fooled, reassured, nor satisfied by intellectual arguments of what's physically materially 'real', or 'constructed', at that point, though you will continue to make an abstraction of it, after the fact of it has passed, and in that way, yes, the material actuality becomes the construct.
You could of course down-scale the experiment some, and merely rip off one of your fingernails with a pair of pliers, and discover for yourself, directly, if it's merely a construct during the action of the ripping, or only a construction once it's remembered, from a recalled stored abstracted memory, some time after the action of the ripping.
I can report that there is a material event and a constructed event in memory which I recalled, and the two are of the same event, but one was quite real - not a dream - and the other is not, and is a dream and is a memory. For the memory is what creates the dream, or rather imagination is produced and stored in memory and recalled as the construction of the event.
The difference is one is a construct, while the other physically materially occurred, and was not a construct as it was occurring.
When a body is shot the wound is in fact physical and material, and the death and decomposition is not a construction.
So we both do, and do not, construct our reality.
There is an actual reality, underlying the mentally abstracted/constructed reality.
One you 'know', and the other is unknowable, as it is not stored and recalled - it is only DIRECT - in the event.
The DIRECT never enters the dream.
The DIRECT only exists as the reality, when the knowledge that constructs the dream has stopped imagining and storing the memories it immediately recalls as the 'reality'.
One is ACTUAL, and the other is imagination dreaming, as 'knowledge'.

The statement that you will never "know" any thing beyond a mental construct is irrefutable. Whether the mental construct is a useful correspondance to a posited external reality is another question.
Well get the pliers out and see if it was merely "posited" from words, find it out DIRECTLY and then you can stop making verbal construct excuses to avoid the alleged "posited", simply because you may not like the results and physical material implications, that become no longer avoidable, nor supportive of self-fooling, intellectually. ;-)
Notice that I did not attempt to "refute" your statement at all, but simply included the other part of the story that you sought to or else conveniently left out via your misdirecting over-simplification of a more subtle and intriguing situation the intellectual but also material originated dream, finds itself in.
What mechanism dreams that construct, if you have no matter or skull, in actuality? Head-butt a concrete wall and try to convince it and your construct that the wall is just a construct.
If you damage your material organism, it will scar, and the scars are not constructs, they're physically there. Your eye does not construct anything, it sees light, it is the imagination that constructs from that DIRECT seeing, what is INDIRECTLY dreamed to be 'objects', and all objects are recalled from a pre-constructed memory, that you previously imagined and defined, then recalled on the fly as the dream - the not real, the not DIRECT.
And no, you or I can not define and encapsulate anything ACTUAL, with words, and talk about anything ACTUAL as a construct, so don't make the mistake of thinking this was any such attempt to do so.
