Divide and conquer has been the most successful strategy used by humans to attain and maintain power since ancient times. The concept is simple and effective in that those being ruled are too busy fighting amongst themselves to be capable of taking a step back and seeing the bigger picture. The bigger picture is that they are being intentionally played.
This strategy is being quite effectively employed by the American oligarchy against the American population. While racism and associated violence certainly still exist, as we recently saw in the South Carolina tragedy, this remains a marginal issue compared to the relentless, systemic and daily oligarch oppression against hundreds of millions of people. The issue of the 0.01% versus the 99.99% is almost never covered or hyped on mainstream media, while issues of “sexism” and “racism” are covered and exploited incessantly. Why is that? It’s divide and conquer stupid.
Naturally, the American plebs must be kept distracted and consumed by issues that, while important, pale in comparison to the major issue of our time: The financial oppression of everyone by a handful of oligarchs and their servants in Congress. Nothing will change as long as we continue to fight amongst ourselves for the diminishing scraps of a shrinking pie and remain incapable of seeing the true problem. The status quo understands this and leverages it more than anyone wishes to admit.
I’ve found that the saying: “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled,” is 100% true. People who are ignorant really are ignorant. They don’t get it, and they don’t want to get it. Only a serious shock, often financial hardship, can get people to question the false paradigms they have accepted for years if not their entire lives. This is why I don’t expect real change to kick in until the next economic downturn arrives.
Before I share a video of the very eloquent, introspective and brave Bryan Thomas, I want to make a few things clear. Personally, I find the Confederate Flag to be offensive. You can’t deny that to many people it elicits painful images of slavery and oppression. Personally, I don’t like looking at the flag and I wouldn’t want it around me. But this is my personal preference and perspective. If someone else wants to fly it because it means something about southern pride, racial bias, or whatever else, that is their right. The flag is a free speech issue. People have a right to offend me or anyone else. All that said, I do think whether or not it flies on state capitols is a fair and necessary debate.
However, is it the most existential issue facing American society today? Of course not. After all, we have a black President who has systematically funneled as much money as possible to the most entrenched wealthy elites in America, and has governed as if his top priority was a seamless continuation of the George W. Bush administration. If that doesn’t prove to you that symbols don’t really mean much in big picture, I don’t know what will. Symbols are just that, symbols.

The Confederate states could sell their cotton for a higher price to the Europeans but the FEDs imposed tariffs so the Northern States could buy it cheaper.
Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was a strategic move to keep British troops in Canada, Russian Navy in the Pacific and French troops in Mexico from getting involved. The European countries had already abolished slavery and Lincoln knew that their populations would not support their involvement when slavery was introduced as a defining issue. The issue of slavery was already on it's way out. It would eventually have been abolished, War or No War. Lincoln started the War "to Preserve the Union". Period.

Black, White, Brown, Yellow, and Red, have all been slaves, and all been slave owners.
Historically, white slaves were the most sought after and valuable. A captured Roman Legionary was the most valuable slave to the Celts. Blonde white virgin women were (still are) the most valuable to Muslim invaders (when Spain was invaded, top of the list for urgent supply, was the acquisition of 10,000 blonde white virgins). My ancestors were captured by Rome in Wales, and sent to Rome as slaves. That didn't end with Rome.
We didn't capture slaves in Africa, they were captured and sold by their own people. They even had slave 'supermarkets' at slaving ports. It was 'whitey' that pretty much put an end to that trade (mostly, the Muslim World is still heavily involved in slavery).
Most of the World was dominated by slavery, human sacrifice, and cannibalism (reading Captain Cook's Journals is a real eye opener, for example). In India, widows were routinely burned alive on their husband's funeral pyre, which was immediately ended by the erection of a gallows at funeral sites, and the Indian's were told they were quite free to burn the widows, but those who did it, would be immediately hanged. The Thugee were heavily involved in human sacrifice, that was ended too.
Spain ended the mass human sacrifices and cannibalism in the Americas, where up to 80,000 victims were sacrificed in a day.
This is what the World was like, until comparatively recently. Why should somebody try to make 'me' or 'you' or 'anybody else' feel any sort of guilt about that? We ALL have slaves amongst our ancestors! If the blacks have ridiculous issues about those who enslaved them, and want 'compensation', then they had better take the matter up with their own families in Africa, the descendants of those that sold them off as "undesirable for the tribe" or "unfit to throw on the BBQ", or "whatever".

"HOUSTON - Houston Independent School District says it's open to discussing renaming several schools named for Confederate loyalists.
This isn't the first time the issue has come up; it was discussed in 2013 and 2014 when HISD changed several school mascots deemed politically incorrect or culturally insensitive.
"This isn't a conversation that's new," said Rhonda Skillern-Jones, HISD's president, "but I think in light of what happened in South Carolina, I think it's an appropriate time to have a conversation."
Community activist Linda Scurlock agrees. For several years she has wanted the name changed on Dowling Middle School.
"Because he was a Confederate soldier," said Scurlock, "and I think that everybody knows what the Confederacy stands for."
Dowling is set to be rebuilt and Scurlock has started a petition and is collecting signatures to get a new name along with it.
"For black people it stands for hate and division. It's time to change history," Scurlock said."
Are we going to wind up with politically correct coloring-book history? With all due respect, both the so-called confederate flag (which it never actually was) and these school names were dredged up in the 1960s as a backlash to the civil rights movement. So the oversimplification and self-deception works both ways. Actually, South Carolina's secession was more about the right of the feds to collect import duties at Ft. Sumter than slavery. In general, the civil war settled the debate on the principle of nullification, not just slavery.

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows the Civil war was our "second war for independence" and was not about slavery. What is going on here is a reminder of what happens to anyone who stands up to or against the Federal Government. We are suffering today the evils of that War. All the bitching and complaining going on today are as a result of the Civil War turning the country on its head and making, by force, the federal governement the centralized source of power in this country.
