Juncker To Greece: "Don't Commit Suicide Just Because You Are Afraid Of Death"

Tyler Durden's picture

In as brash an instance of lying propaganda as we have seen recently EU President Jean-Cleaude "when it's serious you have to lie" Juncker unleashed 6 minutes of unabashed falsehoods this morning as the fearmongering and blame-shame-game for Greece begins. He proclaimed that "pension cuts were not in the creditors proposals" which as many pointed out is a total lie and then said: "You shouldn’t commit suicide because you're afraid of dying. You should say 'yes' regardless of what the question is." Got that Greek Grandmas - Vote YES no matter what you think - that's how EU democracyu works...

For instance...

The European Commission appealed on Monday to the Greek people to vote “yes” in a referendum on its international bailout, warning that a risk of the rupture of the European Union was real.

They report that Jean-Claude Juncker, the commission’s president, said: “I love you deeply - You shouldn’t commit suicide because you’re afraid of dying. You should say ‘yes’ regardless of what the question is.

A “no” vote in the referendum “will mean that Greece is saying no to Europe,” Mr. Juncker said.

Mr. Juncker rejected the argument by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras saying that a “no” vote by Greeks on July 5 would give the government a better negotiation position in the rescue talks.

"The whole planet would consider a Greek 'no' to the question posed... as meaning that Greece wants to distance itself from the euro zone and from Europe." he told a news conference.

Juncker said he still believed a Greek exit from the euro zone was not an option, but cautioned that he alone could not necessarily protect Athens from other leaders who may disagree.

At a rare emergency news conference at the Brussels headquarters of his European Commission, Juncker ran through what he said was a fair offer made to Greece, which was socially fairer than the government had sought - effectively appealing over the head of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

"Playing off one democracy against 18 others is not an attitude which is fitting for the great Greek nation," Juncker said.

The Commission president said he felt deeply distressed and betrayed, believing until late on Friday that both sides were pushing towards a deal.

The full outpouring is here...

* * *

After that, Juncker just blew any chance of being trusted again by anyone.

* * *

This summed it quite succinctly...

But with lies so blatant, we would be surprised if any Greek believed any word he ever said again.

Haha ha, the creator of the Lux Laundrymat, that washes corporate profits whiter in Eurozone, now goes Bolshy.

If he has this to say to Greece, what will he say to Cameron on Brexit?

Lose your soul and then...lose your nerve and don't be surprised if in the aftermath you lose your head!

Memory lost Europe : we don't know why this is happening to us, 'cos we don't understand cause and effect!

What you sow you then reap Mr Juncker, and no use saying "when it gets serious we all lie!"

Who owns Juncker ? I mean he went from University into politics and seemed to be a creature of Jacques Santer who got to be head of the EU Commission. That little Luxembourg with 300,000 people produces two heads of the EU Commission is remarkable

As others have mentioned, any Greek on the dole: pensioners, disabled, unemployed will vote yes with the rationale half a gyro is better than no gyro

In this game of poker, the Euros were shocked Tsipras didn't cave. So they have six days to hammer out a deal

I can't see the referendum happening bc neither side can risk the fallout of being on the wrong side of the vote

The fact that Junckhead is being so unbelievably condescending and whiny means Tsipras should shove his fist right up his ass.

Europe is more worried. Trillions on the line vs. Greek default with some options: BRICS bank, Uncle Vlad, maybe China

Adolph Merkel should yank on Junckhead''s tits bc he is the one so shrill it gives the notion that Europe is the one panicking

Hurts their negotiating position now that it just got real

Tsipras should now go on a 2 week vacation.

Let the greeks wreck the banks etc.

Lots of jobs fixing stuff will pop up.

New economy based on real work is formed.

Greece could set an example for the rest of the world.

Those pensions were based on lies anyhow.

Get over it and move on.

... What's the problem with Juncker jokes? Juncker doesn't think they're funny, normal people don't think they're jokes.

... here's some re-written Juncker jokes ...

What do Juncker and a slinky have in common?
They’re both fun to watch tumble down the stairs.

What’s the difference between Juncker and a trampoline?
You take off your boots to jump on a trampoline.

I went to Juncker, my banker to discuss a loan. Juncker said: “Certainly, sir.  How much can you lend us?”

What’s the difference between Juncker and a haddock?
One’s cold and slimy, the other’s a fish.

How do you stop Juncker from drowning?
Shoot him before he hits the water.

A man went to Juncker, the bank cashier, and said: “Will you check my balance?”  So, Juncker pushed him.

What’s the difference between Juncker and an onion?
You cry when you cut up an onion.

It's certainly on. Germany, France have now joined in making this a vote on the Euro itself. Majority of Greeks want to stay in Euro, but even without that early polls are showing majority leaning towards a YES - with the Euro explicitly on the line following the French, German and EU threats as well as hostility from other periphery nations, a YES vote becomes even more likely. Hopefully they will then work out the details of a deal quickly.

Edit: Of course, this means the end of Tsipras and Syriza. I can see no other possibility than resignation and new elections. Perhaps this was just his/their way of saving face.

Democracy in Greece connotes a referendum, open debate and the weighing of facts as to who incurred the debt and who owns the debt. Were there corruption, bribery, and coercion of government officials involved in incurring the debt? What liability do the Greek People have for criminal debt? Is the loaner of money as responsible as the borrower of the money to fulfill reasonable completion of the contract? If the loaner of the money knew that the Greek government could never pay back the money; why did they loan them the money? Was criminal bankster entrapment involved to blindside the borrower by deceitful contracts? How much money was lost by bankster bond, securities and mortgage fraud?

If bankster criminal fraud, debt and chaos is behind the Greek financial crisis, arrest them and bring them to trial as criminals to society and if found guilty; hang the criminals and repudiate the debt.

That is what democracy is about: government of, for and by the People.

NO TO TOTALITARIAN fascism: government of, for and by the multinational corporate monopolies.

Its really becoming clear how scared and desperate the ECB are, if theres one thing these people fear its actual democracy and the idea that the masses might get a say in what happens. Its not the way they like to work which is why all global governing bodies are unelected and unaccountable. They only allow the pretence of democracy at the national levels, usually through a two party red / blue charade that has no effect on what happens as nation states are now redundant and superseded by these global private clubs that direct the overall agenda ( we all know the acronyms ). In the UK for example they have been promising an EU in/out referendum for over a decade it must be, it never actually happens because they are terrified the masses may vote the wrong way. You can pretty much determine what will happen and what will not be allowed to happen based on whether it benefits the masses or big money. Based on that principle, which I have never seen fail in practice, a deal will no doubt be done eventually and there will be no grexit as by now its clear that its the last thing the ECB wants.

So guys its Monday and aside of that pathetic ~100-200 pips gap in eur/usd(which was already reversed anyway) nothing happened as I foretold in Friday. But here is something interesting, as you may recall EU and IMF leaders claimed that referendum is obsolete anyway. That by Monday, if no deal is made its OVER. And yet we can clearly see from this article they are still awaiting it! Because it was all farce from beginning. Greece is staying, circus will continue and nothing will change for much longer than you think.

Meantime I bet FED is secretly printing dollars like crazy to keep US from collapsing - right into the bears so it wont show on the charts! In other words, thanks to the idiot traders that buy this EU propaganda and keep shorting eur/usd like no tomorrow, FED is able to create money right into USD bulls without causing hyperinflation. To see if I am right or not, lets see what future articles ZH bring regarding trade deficit and FED monetary base expansion - there may lay the answer.

And to be clear in certain things:

- Greece leaving EU is long term great for the euro

- US productivity is dead, last streak of reports were all disasters except "expectations" and "confidence" by the stupid

- EU farce is really the only thing keeping US alive at this point, so it will continue

- EU is doing surpluses or only very minimal deficits despite all that tragic comedy

- You can have an imperfect system, but as long as you are in the surplus you can afford to tolerate all its problems like unemployment etc. simply because you can afford it. When you are in deficit, all you can do is rely on others to keep you alive - which is exactly what is happening right now in case of US - especially thanks to idiot traders, "investors" and hedge funds.

The old deal is dead. Once a yes vote is in Tsipras resigns, new elections are called and a new old deal will be negotiated. It's a joke, but soon the Greek people will have spoken and on and on it goes.

There was a clarification of what Junker said:

#EU officials clarify @JunckerEU "no pension cut" line. Say it refers to current pensioners. They view EKAS as a non-pension payment.
