July 5: Greek Independence Day; July 15: Greek In Dependence Day

Tyler Durden's picture

The Greek parliament just voted, in a 229 for and 64 against landslide, to implement the austerity Europe demands to grant Greece the funds for Bailout #3 so that Greece can then repay European creditors (as opposed to facing up to the pain imminently and suffering through a Grexit) implicitly giving up their sovereignty and sending their 61% "Oxi" voting citizenry into what will inevitably be an even deeper economic depression.

  • *GREEK GOVERNMENT HAS VOTES TO APPROVE BAILOUT BILL, TALLY SHOWS

As Bloomberg reports,

A majority of 229 Greek lawmakers voted in favor of bill which includes prior actions demanded by creditors for a bailout agreement that the govt has applied for, Parliament Speaker says.

64 lawmakers voted against bill, 6 abstained, in Greece’s 300-seat chamber

Bill titled “urgent measures for the negotiation and signing of an agreement with the European Stability Mechanism”

38 lawmakers of governing Syriza party, including former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, former deputy Finance Minister Nadia Valavani, and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis didn’t support bill

Out of 149 Syriza MPs, 32 voted against bill, 6 abstained, 1 didn’t show up

More to the point, with 38 defections, Syriza has now officially lost its majority and a cabinet reshuffle is imminent as the drama goes on.

And as noted:

But the biggest surprise of the night was that the former finance minister and Tsipras' right-hand man, Yanis Varoufakis, voted against the bailout.

And his Energy Minister (who also voted No)...

  • *GREECE'S ENERGY MINISTER LAFAZANIS SAYS HE SUPPORTS GOVERNMENT
  • *LAFAZANIS SAYS `WE 'RE THE HEART AND SOUL OF SYRIZA'
  • *LAFAZANIS SAYS HE DOESN'T WANT SNAP ELECTIONS

In summary - this just happened:

And because all the algos know is to buy when the elites get their way, S&P futures are rallying

There is of course the possibility that Varoufakis voted NO along with Konstantopoulou as part of a plan whereby a disaffected party room vote out Tsipras and vote in Varoufakis and Konstantopoulou in an effort to keep the party intact.

I wonder if in 10 years people will defend Americans for their government running up debts the way people are now feeling sympathetic to Greeks for being so f-ed...

lol, of course they won't... they'll laugh at a country that was so powerful letting runaway budget deficits consume them. It's like watching the neighborhood thug get thrown out of his house, and have all his toys and weapons confiscated for missing too many mortgage payments.

Time for a joke:

A plane is flying over Spain and the co-pilot asks the captain, "how many malakes (wankers) do I throw out here?

The captain replies, "throw out 20," and the co-pilot goes out the back and throws out 20 passengers.

A few hours later they are over Italy and the co-pilot once again asks, "how many malakes do I throw out here?"

The captain replies "throw out 60 here," and the co-pilot once again throws out 60 of the passengers."

A few hours later they are flying over the Greek Parliament and the co-pilot once again asks, "how many do I throw out here?"

The captain replies, "don't be an idiot, this is where we load up!!"

There is rarely any change until there is blood in the streets.  It's physics.  A body in motion tends to stay in that motion.  To quote the great poet Bon Scott, "blood in the streets, blood on the rocks, blood on the dollar, every last drop. If you want blood?  YOU Got IT!"

Democracy is dying in the west as the Inequality divide and Oligarchy victory of American imposed order unfurls on the world; all the more so that the welfare state is now a dying concept.

Vertical order now replaces horizontal order. As the Boss of Paypal says :

I prefer absolute freedom of individual rights to the levelling fields of democracy.

General good is now opposed to the right of the powerful (and talented) to impose their will emanating from the POWER of their money on others.

Greece invented a model of balance. The US Oligarchy now reverts to the neo-feudal order as its "natural right".

Amazing.  They need to default and re-adopt the Drachma.  And yet they chose literally to turn their country over to the EU investory class.

There is no way that EU can do anything for Greece (but scarf up scraps like a shark). Were they to aleviate the situation, Portugal and Spain would righly roar bloody murder: Who are these Greek upstarts when we have been part of the deal since 1986?

As far as I see it, it is up to the average person's wilingness to physically resist and the compliance of the Greek military.  I'd say the former is a more likely opponent.

Greece is thrown under the bus to save the global banking system. You cannot let the story be "default." Take their shit, give them some more clown bucks.

The only reason you say yes to this, is you think it doesn't matter, it's all coming down anyway, and it may come down sooner on everyone if you don't do this.

If I'm Greek, and I voted OXI, I'm pissed and may do something, er, unreasonable any way based on this parliamentary vote.

Remember when we came out 200-1 against TARP and they voted it down, then did a re-vote and did it anyway?

All to save the precious banking system.

surely the "cookie" part of the bailout deal is stupid continuation of the "extend and pretend" scheme as if Greece were able to pay off that debtberd. but how about "request" part? is that really so "humiliating" and bad? be honest please! except for tax hikes, which is certailny bad, most of those requests are quite sensible to any pro-free-market honest individual: cut spending, reduce cronyism in state owned enterprises, cut overvalued pensions (that are TWICE as big as those in Baltic eurozone states), get rid of government biased ELSAT statistics , get rid of stated-owned enterprises (what a net of cronyism and collective bargaining!) and finally start implementing some real reforms!

sometimes I have an uneasy impression that seemingly pro-freemarket ppl cheer these values when we talk about US, but then they go against it when talking about Greece!

I cloned my previous comment here.

Why Greece was politically and economically crushed and humiliated well beyond pale of any civilized conduct?

Why such seemingly irrational intransigence of German Government to the point of raising serious American concerns regarding integrity of NATO if Greek society totally collapses?

There is only one plausible answer is CDU/CSU want to cover up their crimes perpetrated against German nation.

Merkel/Schauble gang cannot allow Greek default on the German held bonds 140 billion euro since this would open up Pandora box of issues related to how in the world and why German government acquired worthless Greek bonds 2008-2010 from insolvent German banks including Deutsche Bank, in fact bailing it out.

Let's get it strait Greeks never took loan from German government or sold them bonds.

Germans would ask how much bribes took CDU/CSU, including their leaders and their corporate cronies to load German taxpayers with worthless bonds and propping up zombie banks.

These are crimes punishable in Germany with many years of prison. All of this show is to continue to extend and pretend to cover up politicians asses in Germany France, the Netherlands Finland etc., who did the same namely defrauded their nations for monetary and political gains.

As I repeat again and again Brussels and EU is a cesspool of true   gangsters , petty gangsters without Corleone finesse and wisdom.

German people do not get yourself be economically fucked like the rest of the world.

And you German trolls men up.

The idea seems to be to create a permanent parasite within the EU that completely depends on the EU and never ever will manage without the euro and the EU. I guess that´s the ideal EU member according to our current power élite.

I think that it would be a better idea to create a Greek economy with higher productivity. EU members that depend on tourism will always depend on subsidies from other EU members. Why not build more and larger ships in Greece instead, for instance?

This is an example how the EU creates less prosperity, not more. The EU leaders want EU members that depend on subsidies from other EU members. Thereby they get countries that are loyal to the EU and more centralization within the EU.

Unfortunately, many Greeks also seem to feel that is better to depend on subsidies from other EU members than to increase the productivity of their own economy.

Something is fundamentally flawed when there are no incentives for EU members to increase their productivity but strong incentives for depending on subsidies from other EU members. And when the power élite benefits from that it´s outrageous.

One thing for sure, the Greek Parliament will no go hungry and barely notice the austerity.

I bet the Greek 1% will be just fine too.

With Greek Banks holding only $11 Billion in Greek Debt, Obviously the Greek Wealthy don't Invest in Greece. So perhaps this was a large part of the Decision.

Perhaps a Greek revolution should consider Public Banking or Even Black Market Banking Off-Line?

- European History seems to tell about Black Market Activities & Partisan Fighters
- Perhaps Smugglers could be a new source of Funding and Economic Growth in Greece
- I imagine that many Greeks are going to learn to Hate other Europeans and Bankers... Perhaps Banker Tourists in Greece would be subject to Robbery & Beatings & Flash Kidnappings
- Will Greek Police & Justice Systems Enforce European Laws and Extradition Papers within Greece?

The Onassis Family was big in Smuggling after all.

But a country in civil war is. And I'm afraid that they've set things up so as to make it almost inevitable. If not now, then as soon as the austerity starts to hurt these folks even further. Then the anti-Euro Greeks will want to tear the pro-Euro Greeks up.
And you think tax collection was hard before? The country will be virtually unmanageable, and ungovernable. The nation of Greece in that condition is a big threat. Epic mistakes are being made before our eyes.

The Rectum-Ectomy seems to have taken place both in the Greek Parliament and in the Troika (European Commission).

European Commission:

President: Jean-Claude Juncker, from a town in the commune of Sanem, in south-western Luxembourg.
First Vice President: Frans Timmermans, Dutch
Vice Presidents:

Federica Mogherini, Italian, 41 years old...
Kristalina Georgieva, Bulgarian
Jyrki Katainen, Finnish
Valdis Dombrovskis, Latvian
Andrus Ansip, Estonian
Maroš Šef?ovi?, Slovak,

Who are these Guys???!!!

-

I am afraid they are just the face of Government. They are NOT the real power of Government. All respect to them. I'm sure they are smart people with admirable careers. I know the face of Democracy and Unity should show these kinds of people as the Face of the European Commission.

But... my feeling is that Bankers play a game with other peoples money... they can't lose since it is not their money. And yet they are able to mobilize the Government and the new Supreme Authority called the EU to socialize the Risks of the Banks while they get Bonus money and new Promotions or Salary Increases.

Follow the money Troika!!

The wealth is flowing from the Middle Class and others to the 1%, the Wealthy, the Powerful, the new Corporate Super Powers.

Enough is enough! Nationalize the banks and requisition them to serve the People; throw the fascist criminals in prison!

If the criminal banksters were prosecuted for American mortgage fraud back in 2000 the criminals would have been in prison instead of destroying the economies of the world with their New World Order. What is the difference between the $140,000 each American citizen owes to the banksters and the few thousands owed by Greek citizens?

FASCIST (government of, for and by the multinational bankster corporate monopoly) TAKE-OVER is foreign to American representative democracy and Greek direct democracy (government of, for and by the People).

The modern fascist are criminals to our democracy Justice System that the fascist criminals have overthrown by the criminal tools of corruption and theft: fraud, forgery, bribery, bunko and Ponzi schemes, cohesion, extortion, embezzlement, theft, murder, and any other criminal act to farther their control and power over the People.

The central bankster criminals have declared war on the Peoples of the World with fraudulent debt implemented and foisted on the leaders of democratic nations.

Fraud by representative debt on to the People was the bankster criminal plan from the beginning of the European Union and American debt. The central banksters have set out to bankrupt nations by debt and take over the country assets; to hell with the People.

The People have said emphatically and democratically “NO” to criminal fraud and debt. It is time to hold a Peoples Court for Justice and arrest and charge the criminals with their crimes. Seize all bankster multinational assets until the end of the trials and forfeiture of the assets if found guilty. The criminals have destroyed your democracy set of criminal laws, so a Peoples Kangaroo Court is your only civil defense to restore your universal criminal laws.

Don’t destroy your own civic property, seize their property.
