Majority Of Americans Now See Guns As The Solution To Mass Shootings

Tyler Durden's picture

Obama failed: in the aftermath of the 2012 Newtown, CT school massacre which left 26 unarmed, defenseless people dead, the president pushed as hard as he could to pass legislation that would enact strict gun control and further limit the applicability of the Second Amendment. Not only did he not succeed, but according to a 2014 Pew Research Poll there has been a 9% rise in the number of Americans who think gun ownership could "protect people from becoming victims of crime."

Incidentally, this conforms with what former Texas governor Rick Perry, and a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, said after last week's deadly shooting at a Lafayette, La., movie theater when he claimed that Americans should be allowed to bring guns into movie theaters - and everywhere else - to prevent such crime.

It is also a recapitulation of what NRA head Wayne LaPierre has said in the past: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

According to Pew, the recent shift was driven by republicans who have become even more convinced their outlook is correct: in the two years since the Newtown attack,  rose from 63 percent to 80 percent.

The poll also marked the first time in two decades of Pew surveys that more Americans supported gun rights rather than gun control (though public opinion had been shifting that way for years).

Incidentally, WaPo which caught these revelations first, despite its anti-gun bias was largely accurate in its conclusion: the findings "likely won't move the needle on gun debate. Both sides can -- and are -- using these two most recent incidents to argue their points: Gun-control supporters say they prove that the background check system needs to be revamped and expanded, while gun-rights supporters say a slip in the system does not a trend make.

It's even clearer that gun laws likely won't change when you zoom out to Americans' overall feelings on guns; with every mass shooting, in fact, we seem to be embracing the idea of more guns rather than fewer.

Which means that the biggest loser is none other than the president, for whom his way of gun-control was one of the key targets, so to say, of his tenure.

It also means that current and future mass shootings will do nothing to change public opinion but merely further solidify beliefs. And while politicians debate who is right or wrong, and for what reason, many more innocent Americans will be, for whatever the reason may be, innocent casualties of what has become a very lethal political war.

These mass shooters are cowards. Why else would they choose to shoot up gun free zones, rather than police stations, courthouses, military bases, or government offices?

At the first sign of resistance they usually off themselves.

I prefer to have a fighting chance whenever possible. I avoid gun free zones and the targets that congregate there.

I mean, would you stand around at the terminal end of a rifle range? I wouldn't either.

I am starting to wonder about the Tylers.  The author of this article apparently believes the Sandy Hoax story. although it has been debunked by 100s of well researched vids on you Tube.  No one died.  Adama Lanza may have never existed.  The school was closed 4 years before the supposed shooting.  The parents were crisis actors (DHS), some of whom have been exposed and also have also shown up as participants in the Boston Marathon false flag.  We have enough propaganda already.  ZH should not contribute any more.

Not to mention highly trained Navy Seals never get 100% kill rate in a situation like SH.  Out of the 26 they would do well to get 70% kill ratio.  But this character with no taring, in a go and blow, get 100%?    Yeah, right.

It's not just Obama that people do that with you can add Soros, Bibi, Fed members etc.  Subtle power is successful in the long run, far more so than obvious power.  The main power structure is a pyramid structure and it always has been.  Most of the smaller minions that are lower power contenders want their power to be obvious to others, this is stupid power.  Most people cannot recognize or intuit the existence of stealth power, this is exceedingly annoying.

Shoot. Shovel. Shut up.

We don't have problem dogs around these parts.  Everybody who has dogs understands that if said dogs get caught attacking others' livestock, property, or people that those dogs will receive a death sentence to be carried out immediately -- no hard feelings.

Personally I don't have any use for fighting dogs like Pits. They are some kind of status symbol to the lowest echelon people of every race. When I see a pitbull being walked with or without a leash,  I see a flatbill cap, tatoos, and a trashy person who somehow thinks a having a fighting dog makes them tough. I see a sub-100 IQ.

I prefer LGDs or other working breeds as they are more loyal, smarter, and much more even tempered (IE safe around old ladies, little kids, and livestock).

dogsbite.org has some non-PC information that pitbull owners don't like, but the information can be an eye opener to the uninitiated.

Now that I think about it, the dog bite stats sort of mirror the crime stats in the US.

One small percentage of the overall population is responsible for the majority of violence.

Two weeks ago - a pitbull on a porch was barking furiously as we walked by it's home.  We turned the corner and by that time, that damn dog had broken through the screened porch and was barreling after us.

In case you haven't experienced it, a pitbull can chomp down like a vice and refuse to let go...except maybe to grab more flesh for a more effective death grip and shake.  I've since learned that when a pit is like this - the alternative, if you can, is to "choke it out" to make it stop. Eh, I wansn't in a position for that.

My husband throttled the beast with his fists - nothing. That dog didn't care even when its face was getting ripped at with my other hand - IT WAS INSANE. I was locked in a death grip. I screamed for my husband to shoot it after several minutes of both of us screaming for help. Meanwhile - the owners knew what had happened and HID IN THEIR HOUSE during the attack. Some people are insane...absolutely, criminally insane.

Now, I love dogs more than most people - but I reached the point where I didn't care if the shot was going through my arm to kill that beast from Hell - I needed it done.  If I had to deliver this dog to Satan myself - I was ready.

Luckily, my husband has always been an excellent shot and had a steady hand despite a really horrific situation. He saved me from a worse maiming or death.

Thank God it had its rabies shots as that was the next thing I'd faced AFTER the emergency room treatment and a tetanus shot. The local sheriff's office was awesome as was the hospital and the health dept (in investigating the rabies status). Literally, the vaccine had been ordered up ($7,000 treatment).

Please, please - never walk without pepper spray and if you feel it it right for you - a weapon.  Life can change in a blink of an eye.

TPTB got awful sloppy when they left the gun free sign on the doors at the military recruiting station.  People in the US may be dense but most of them can still read.

Actually almost every contrived incident has been sloppy as hell but that one was particularly stupid, real or not.  They should have prevented the cameras from capturing the window or have removed the sticker in advance.  Either they overestimate the stupidity of the American public or they are incompetent at what they do, maybe both.

Guns are neither problem nor solution. They are most effective tools for threats and intimidation with not much skill required for self-defense or not. Knives, sticks or stones or strong fists would do the same but on smaller scale and with much more effort.

The problem is believing that violence is a solution to anything. It is not. Unfortunately, government/military/police is working hard in order to prove to us daily that it is solution for them and they do it with impunity. But what's the problem that government solves with gun intimidation or murder? Submission of citizen problem, that's all.

Do you want to  find out what the real problem in our society is?

Bad answer.  Actually violence solves lots of things, permanently.

Bear attacking you? Shoot and kill him. Problem solved.

Gang of feral thugs invading your home? 30 round magazines and carbine -- problem solved.

Invading tribe killing your children and raping your women? A campaign against them with a massacre at the end, problem solved.

Pitbulls eating your dogs, cats, chickens, and children? Shoot 'em.  Problem solved.

People who say violence never solves anything are either lying, or are too inexperienced in life for their opinion to have any value whatsoever.

Violence has solved lots of problems in my life. Controlled and carefully administered, but violence nonetheless.

Time is on the side of the Bolsheviks. Every poll taken in Mexico and the US of Mexican views on firearms shows HOSTILITY to the right to keep and bear arms. In Mexico over 80% said no one should have a firearm for self-defense. In a poll by a Democrat pollster before the Super Bowl a few years ago found an even higher number of "US resident Latinos" wanted Mexican-style gun control laws in the US. Asians and Blacks poll similarly. So as Whites dwindle into minority status expect the BIG GUN GRAB to be LAWFUL. With the Seal of Approval of the US Supreme Court.

In the meantime know this:

THEY want American Whites DISARMED so that THEY can do to Whites what they did to the Czar and his family and TWENTY MILLION White Russians according to Khrushchev. These are BOLSHEVIKS in power in the USSA.

I think it behooves each and every single one of us, AND OUR FAMILIES, to join the NRA.

Point of fact; a gun is, and represents lethal force. By law, simply pointing a gun at another person (loaded or unloaded) could very well, “…put you in the system.” Pointing, even a toy gun, at an officer of the law, will put you, “six feet under, in a New York minute.” There is no shortage of respect for the possible ramifications of gun ownership; for the legal gun owner. Unfortunately, there is no country in the world, where guns are outlawed, that outlaws don’t have guns.

Devices, with the potential for use in Lethal Force, are quite abundant. Take your average kitchen knife, hammer, crowbar, rock, whiskey bottle, etc. Bottom line, inanimate objects don’t murder people. People murder people.

Take for example, your car; by law, it is considered a deadly weapon. Heaven forbid, the next time you are pulled over by an officer of the law, (DON’T) try this; if he is in front of your vehicle, start your car, put it in gear, and tap the gas. I can absolutely assure you, you will forthwith, be a victim of, “gun violence.”

Interestingly so, a vehicle which must be licensed, registered, insured, and equipped with keyed access; oh yes, the operator must be licensed as well; can easily be, and has been, used to “Murder.” So, maybe we need more laws to prevent the use of a car in a crime? Or, shucks, let’s just outlaw those murderous cars!

Man passes Dallas airport security, boards plane without ticket

DALLAS (Reuters) - U.S. transportation security officials are investigating how a man was able to pass through a security checkpoint without a ticket at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and board a commercial airliner, airport officials said on Monday.

The 26-year-old man parked his vehicle at a curbside airport terminal entrance on Sunday night, walked through a Transportation Security Administration screening area and boarded the plane, the airport said in a statement.

I "close carry" as opposed to open carry.  That means there is nearly always a gun that you can't see at my near disposal that is not on my person.  No papers, no prints, loaded.  I mean they were before they all went down with the ship in a classic boating accident that is.  GPS fucked off again.

I spent 10 years 2 months and 20 days of U.S. NAVY active duty. I know exactly what goes on in all wars, they are politicaly driven by money.  All wars are politicaly driven from the 1st to the last, and the U.S. active duty military are expendable to the politicians to keep the U.S. $$$ relevant in the world.

PSYOPS 24X7X365 keeps the people confused & calm.

Do you think the people of Baltimore, Detroit, Cleveland, StLouis, or any other big city knows anything about creating a solution to move the country forward?

No, they protest & blame, destroy, burn, lash out, fight, shoot, steal, knock out, rape & murder and ask the middle class to fund it through state controlled programs.

Our country's moral compass is broken, and unfornately I don't think it can be fixed.

No way in hell are Americans gona let some cum belching, limp write sack of dog shit like Obama and his butt buddy Piers Morgan disarm them.  That's more than armchair talk, I live in a rural area and we and loaded down with weapons and ammo.  Some weekends literally sound like a warzone, complete with thunderous booms and land that is as cratered as mars when viewed on google earth.  The time the GOONS are most powerful is when they show up ten at a time at one persons house.  These fucking clowns are going to be in for a fucking surprise if they try confiscation.

Also, if anyone thinks there are too many deaths by gun now, you haven't seen jack fucking shit if the gov't pulls that kind of crap.  And if the gov't does pull that kind of crap, rest assured they know the consequences and i'm firmly convinced that they don't care, it's not about our lives, it's about their pathetic asses and keeping the hammer down on the masses.  Not gona happen asshats.  If it does, and you seem them press ahead, despite 1000's of deaths, you better get a gun real fucking fast cause I guarantee things are going to go downhill in short order and Hitler and Co. will be arriving.  DO NOT TRUST THE CLOWNS THAT ARE IN CHARGE OF THE US GOV'T.  These pos vile creatures have caused mass death all over the fucking world, continue to do so for profit to this day, they won't hesitate to turn inward for one second if it comes down to us or them.

Yeah the US gov't is going to try to confiscate weapons when no major federal law has been passed since '94 on gun control, every state with the exception of NY has widely expanded gun ownership rights and carrying privileges, and SCOTUS has struck down gun control law after gun control law.

These kind of articles just draw out the on tards on here who ramble incoherently about stuff despite the basic facts on something or what has occurred the past 20+ years.

Kook talk. Why let people get guns to defend themselves when you can take away that right and the people who really want a gun to go do a crime will get it anyway. Banning drugs and pretty much everything else they have banned has done wonders in showing how this brilliant idea works. I mean how stupid can human beings get where they think gun control would stop people from being shot.

Maybe Obombya and the other anti gun morons can ask criminals to refrain from using guns. Pretty please with sugar on top.

Violence has permeated American society since its inception. European “settlers” stole land from the indigenous population, which they subsequently murdered and used African slaves in the nascent country to generate wealth. Indeed, it took a war with circa 500K casualties to preserve the “Union”, a war that still rages on. The US has been almost continuously at war since 1940; the current US/NATO war theater extends from the Levant, to Caspian Basin, Persian Gulf, China Sea, Indian Ocean, Horn of Africa (war on Yemen), the Maghreb and Eastern Europe and Russian Border. At home we have a taxpayer supported multi-billion $ criminal justice system (police, courts, prison system), incarcerating the more people than any country in the world. An obvious conclusion is that we need more guns to increase violence in our society. “An eye for an eye” and we both end up blind. Positively brilliant.

Get in your car and start collecting guns in the hood. Turn them into the cops. Be the change you want to see in the world. I'm sure the OGs will be lining up to comply. Besides making a machine that can magically vacuum up all weapons, which is impossible, the 350+ million guns in the country aren't going anywhere. Call your rep in .gov and have him draft a bill to ban death. Ban death. That's as applicable as what you hope.

I am 60.  I have been shooting guns since age 7.  Beginning with BB rifle, BB handgun,  single shot .22, bolt .22 to single shot shot gun, to pump gun.  I am still a pump gun fan.  In 1968 when the natives were burning down the inner city where dad's factory was I was elected to ride shotgun with mom when she had to keep our car to use while dad worked 2 to midnight shift.  There were some cars stopped with people beaten,  robbed, left for dead.  I was 13.  There was a 357 mag six shooter in the glove box.  Dad's rules were if mom gets stuck in traffic and can't run them over if they walk up on the car and touch the door handle you shoot until the gun is empty.  He was raised in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies.  He got it.  If you act like an animal you should be treated as such.  Thank God I never had to resort to that handgun.  There were men with rifles guarding the factory after sundown.  There were many things I saw that summer I wouldn't wish on any 13 year old or anyone for that matter.

Violence may beget violence but anyone thinking for one second that the police are here to protect us better think long and hard about what they believe.  This country is one lit match from big cities repeating what happened after MLK was killed.  I see it.  I run sales calls in S Chicago.  Last weekend 12 murders and 35 people injured by gunfire.  You think for one minute that more gun control laws are going to change the culture of murder and mayhem that hangs over our inner cities I have a bridge for sale real cheap for you.

We are in a bad place.  We have solutions.  I fear we are slowly eliminating solutions that involve calm, rational,  honest adult discussion in places with enough authority to enact changes that are needed.  I don't have the answers but I do know this.  Gun control laws mean nothing to hoodlums and criminals.  We just had a woman in a Chicago suburban motel killed while she was packing away a handgun they think she was trying to smuggle out of state to a relative.  What a price to pay for stupidity.  The ultimate price.

Wake up America.  I hope by the time I reach 80 we still have some semblance of America left.  When I look at my kids and grandkids that is certainly my hope.  Good night all.

FFS people, antidepressants don't turn nonviolnet people into killers. The people who commit mass shootings while on SSRIs were already killers to begin with.

These people get referred to a psychaiatrist by someone who loves them. Now, most psychaitrists have no fucking idea what they'e doing. The prescribe antidepressants, because that's the default action of these doctors. The undleryling issues that cused the disturbed person to seek treatment never get dealt with, and some of them go off on a rampage in an attempt to make things make sense.

There you have it. That is why some mass shootings were commited by people on SSRIs. It wasn't the pills, it was unrelated issues that never got addressed becuase the physicican didn't know what he was doing.

It has been my direct experience that 2/3 of psychaiatrists know fuck all about mental illness. You read an article on some fringe site and now you're an expert?

Interesting shift in public sentiment despite the endless media antigun propaganda, and even Bloomberg's paid shills getting in editorial pieces all over the country.

One of the victims in the Charleston shooting, Pastor Clementa Pinckney, was also a state senator who voted in favor of gun control including gun-free zone. Ironically, his last thought may very well have been, "I wish I had a gun." In the aftermath of Charleston, some black churches are moving away from the gun-free zone concept. Their leftist white overlords will not be pleased with this departure from the Democratic Party Plantation.
