Donald Trump's Soaring Popularity "Is The Country's Collective Middle Finger To Washington"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Paul Brodsky, via Macro-Allocation.com,

Donald Trump’s ascendance as the early GOP front-runner is symbolic of a greater global trend: growing pushback against institutional political and economic power.

To many centrist politicians and mainstream political observers, Donald Trump is a boastful, insensitive egomaniac spouting populist rhetoric. Whether such a characterization is true is not worthy of debate, which may explain why the rantings of enraged career political pundits have no impact on Mr. Trump’s popularity among Republican voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, and across America. It seems no amount of ink or air time spent tarring and feathering Trump’s reputation sticks; in fact it seems to help Teflon Don in the polls, where he leads a crowded field of career politicians.

Donald Trump is a threat not only to the nattering nabobs in the press corps and the Republican Party. His day in the sun may be symbolic of a broader dynamic: the declining power held by historically powerful institutions. Ask yourself if Trump’s campaign is making a mockery of the political process or exposing the mockery that the political process has become. A not-insignificant percentage of Americans away from the coasts, are looking past his utter lack of decorum and political savvy to hitch their wagons to his outrage.

Let’s forget, for a moment, about our personal politics, preferred policies, and individual candidates we may be excited to elect. Are we supposed to forget that the Supreme Court, through its 2010 decision that corporate donors should be treated legally as individual donors under the First Amendment, effectively subordinated individual voters into mere supporting targets to which political aspirants have to appeal? Most importantly, are we supposed to nod our bobble heads in agreement with the heads of the national parties to choose a candidate they find acceptable based on which will appeal to the best funded special interests?

Is anyone really polling in favor of Donald Trump or is he conveniently filling the role of the not-so-quiet counterfactual?

I recently texted one of the premier Sunday morning political pundits with these thoughts and he texted back:

“That's what I am arguing internally. This is the country's collective middle finger to Washington.”

As an investment strategist and consultant observing our current global economy and markets, it is difficult not to extrapolate this sense of helplessness against powerful institutions. Tell us again why six years of central bank financial repression is serving the interests of the greater factors-of-production? As investors, should we care about widening wealth and income gaps that are clearly part-and-parcel with central bank policies devoted to maintaining asset values (see here and here)?

Should we expect free, democratic markets that create, form and price capital efficiently - not that treat financial assets as balance sheet collateral for credit?

Who can voters elect to again have an economy that puts producers over rentiers, or to have markets that price value? I’m sure it’s not Donald Trump (a rentier’s rentier!), but I’m also sure it’s not the heads of the Democrat and Republican Parties. Who can investors elect to keep the rentier thing going? Is that really what investors should want? It’s complicated.

Would you like to end up as Kennedy? I doubt it, That wouldn't have been a sign of Genius, he'is building, he's got the touch, he is Brash, arrogant, unafraid of anything, he is the America we honor in those old war movies, America was universaliy respected and admired, and Her word was her bond!

What happened? I don't know, things change and now we find ourselves here,,,what to do?  I don't know that either, but I caution against threats to our Leaders, people who fear for their lives are apt to make grevious errors!

We don't know what Trump will do.   Obviously being a huge real estate developer, he is aware of the bankster owned government that runs DC since 1913 or earlier.  He may be the Manchurian candidate for the Republicans just as Obama was for the Democrats, posing as an outsider to lull us into supporting him.  But at least he will weaken the phony 2 party system we have.   And he is an outsider unlike the CIA groomed Obama.

The only nice way out of the current mess is to nationalize the Federal Reserve, not abolish it, and let our government create it's own debt free money to lend out into the economy as did the 13 colonies with their colonial script.  Trump, being a huge debtor, would appear to take more naturally to the side of the debtors than the side of the 'creditors' (fiat creating banksters)

He won't get everything done that a lot of people want to see but he will get some of it done, and that will be a novelty.

There'll be plenty of GOP members of Congress who ride into office on his coattails and when he makes it clear he wants someone more supportive of his ideas and policies than Boehner and McConnell, those two will be gone.  The rest of the Repubs in Congress are not going to start off bucking a newly elected Repub President, especially when they know he is quite willing to make life really, really hard for each of them individually.

Just as Obama has been able to stack the upper levels of the bureaucracy with his people, so will Trump and he will undoubtedly use the DOJ to pursue bureaucrats frustrating his policies.

Trump doesn't play Marquess of Queensberry rules.

The joke is on all those dummies who think they are "flipping off" the establishment.

Even IF Trump is making a serious run (and why should anyone think he is), in the end, it will be much ado about nothing, and once again the hopes and dreams of republic-loving Americans will be dashed on the rocks of establishment manipulations.

Trump is a pressure release valve...a hollow, harmless avenue for the masses to march down, but leading to a dead-end.

This being the case, Mr Trump begins to look like a suitable fuck you vote.

I am sick and tired of many things and the populist slur is high on my list, right up there with the Koch Brothers, the Clintons and the Bushes.

For that matter, why does it matter who is president anymore anyway?  Maybe I will write in Cecil the Lion for prez assuming I bother to vote.  I would have to miss out on that free patriotic "I voted" stickers if I didn't vote.  What we need are some "My vote didn't matter and neither did yours" stickers with a Mr. Yuk on it.

It's pretty simple.  How was he going to do business in NYC and other Dem controlled major cities if he didn't pay off their leaders?  It's extortion but if you're in business it's a cost you accept and get on with it.

His recent comments about Hillary ("worst Secretary of State ever", "criminal behavior with the emails") doesn't suggest he's a fan.  In fact maybe he's finally got a chance for some payback over the extortion.

For them Trump has always been the bridge and tunnel clown who puts his name up in gold plated letters. When he put his name up on the GM building it was one big poke in the Park Avenue establishment's eye since they all stroll around that neighborhood.

They love to chuckle everytime the garish nouveau riche with the big toupee stumbles and he loves to throw it right back at them by getting back up on his feet.

The overwhelming personal characteristic Trump has that all the other candidates are lacking (including Hillary and Sanders) is Gravitas. As it is in life, so it is in an election: with it, you win; without it, you lose. If Trump can refrain from any more gaffs, faux-pas or mis-steps, he just may become the new Ronald Reagan. It is time for Americans to play their "Trump-card" and shake-up the listless, Washington political establishment.

Your banks may pay you but where are your digitz?  You know what I am intoning.  Everyone needs to get out of debt but that is mathematically impossible.  Someone is going to to take it in the ass in the end game but it does not need to be anyone who reads this site.  Maybe the better way to state it is that I keep telling these college kids I work with that they need not rack up any more debt then neccessary and I have pounded that into their heads all summer long.  They get it for now but they have seen me drive at least five different vehicles to work and they want to know how that can happen.  No debt.

"How much debt do you have and what is your "aggregate" interest rate?  What do you mean you don't know?

I know exactly (though I'd have to ask Quicken for the details). But you ask the wrong question. The correct question is "what is your propensity to default and what interest collections have you paid".

That one I can answer without my Quicken detail: defaults: zero; interest collections and inflation and taxes: over 50% of my income.

I have been royally cheated ... that's how our system works.

For a properly managed Medium of Exchange, INFLATION = DEFAULT - INTEREST = zero. And I; as a reliable trader with a 70 year track record of zero defaults; with sustained debt levels of 25% or better (but now near zero ... as I'm about to auger in); should never have had to pay a dime of interest ... nor should I have had to trade in a non-zero inflation marketplace.

The problem isn't debt. The problem is defaults (deadbeat traders) and opportunistic interest collectors  (usuarous parasitic capitalists). And the problem is non-zero inflation.

Just because communism obviously sucks doesn't mean we need to tolerate an equally sucky capitalism.

Would it not have been interesting if Ron Paul had the same delivery style as Donald Trump?  Rather than pay it ultra-deferential as Ron did, play it ultra-in-your-face.

Who knows what would have happened.

Having said that, I don't think people were pissed off enough at the status-quo when Ron Paul was active (in congress and campaigns).

But now?  The polls tell me Ron might have gotten somewhere now.  However, only if he went full-bore in-your-face like Trump.  But sadly, Ron simply doesn't have that in his character.

Don't forget to factor in the fact that the world economy is starting to collapse right now, and by the time the election is held, things will be quite obviously very bad.

And who got us there?  The status-quo.  So they may have to assassinate Donald to get rid of him, because in a world-wide economic collapse, Donald Trump will look very attractive to a great many people (an expert in bankruptcy and success).

Ann, I was there for the Ron Paul adventures in 2008 and 2012 my involvement cost me a good paying corporate job.  I managed to get on the inside by being elected a treasurer of a senate district for the GOP in 2008.  Being elected gave me access to the state finance records for all parties.  I audited as far back as I could go with what records I was provided and I found campaign fund fraud all over the place in the GOP.  I called it out and no one liked that too much.  Then I called out some bullshit accounting when I was a branch manager and that was not liked too much either.  Oops.:-)

I really do not give a fuck what people think of me.  I am on a blacklist somewhere for sure.  They can all fuck off because I have ZERO DEBT which means my interest rate is ZERO.  Not too many people can say that these days.  I have not kicked ass in metals investing this year but time will go by and we will see.  Whatever.  I have kicked ass in metals hoarding though.  I don't think you give a shit what people think of you either.

Honestly Ann, people are too stupid to figure it all out and once a few of them finally do they get pissed off at people like me.  Hey, I never told anyone to buy a house.  I do not tell people to buy PMs or cars or Harleys or in your case, a plane.  People can do what they want right?  But then when it all fucks off they look at us like we made that problem for them.  Bullshit.  You fly a plane because you love that and I don't blame you.  I ride my Harley hard and I do it for the same feeling that you fly for.  Freedom.  We share a common thread in that if we fuck up even once it could mean our lives and the only one who can protect us is ourselves.

We don't need any more "presidents".  We can make it on our own.  I'm still typing and so are you.

I don't think I mentioned before that I too rode motorcycles for a while.  But not "real motorcycles" you'd probably say, since I'm too short (5'5"), too wimpy (105lbs) and hate loud noises.  So I bought Hondas, the largest of which was 500cc or 550cc (don't remember).  My legs weren't long enough for their 750cc models.  Really, they were too short for the 500cc versions too, though I could manage.  Fortunately I never had any accidents.  By nature I'm very alert, observant and physically coordinated, and I'm sure that helped.  Riding motorcycles does indeed invoke a great feeling of freedom.

Yeah, obviously I haven't cared what people think since I was 4 years old.  Otherwise I would have accepted the endless BS adults told me.  I realized even then I had to make a total, clearcut, complete break from normal human life, otherwise I could never understand reality, only absorb unlimited nonsense that other humans told me.

I warned everyone I knew about the housing collapse to come starting in about 2004.  Nobody listened.  Afterwards, they didn't want to talk to me, which was fine with me!

Yes, taking our lives into our own hands, simultaneously in completely serious and radically fun ways... is absolutely the best way to live.  For me, anyway.  Most folks have no idea what that's like, never will, and probably can't at this point in their lives.

Yes, we can make it on our own.  In my case, I am making on my own.  I'm finally 100% self-sufficient now, and would literally live exactly the same for the rest of my natural life if every human on the planet died tomorrow.  Well, except I wouldn't waste any time posting on ZH, and never be able to see new movies again.  The first would improve my life, but the second would be a bummer.  But actually, I have always had a massive attraction to the idea of living alone on a planet... though I would prefer to have one other human with me in the optimal version.

We are all connected on a quantum level of the collective unconscious, honestann. Give Karl Jung's Memories, Dreams, and Reflections, a read. I have Remote Viewed you a few times and I can assure you that you are NOT alone. You just don't see all the levels of the unconscious mind, conscious mind, and pre-conscious mind, it all their perspective because you don't study the mind, or consciousness, apart from what you physically see. You are an Objectivist at heart opining on subjectivist aspects of the corollary to Objectivist, and a materialistic, World view.

You have a BRAIN, honestann. Your brain is a data collecting sense organ that is capable of communication outside of what you perceive to be regular communication channels like a telephone or an Internet computer interface. When I have Remote Viewed you I did not do it with technology, I used my sensing & perceiving BRAIN.

NOTE: You are not as detached from civilization, or human beings, as you seem to think you are. In other words, you may think you are isolated, and no human being on earth can see where you are, or what you are doing, but that is wholeheartedly incorrect, I assure you.

According to my metaphysical theory (understanding), I am connected to everything in the entire universe all the time (FTL notwithstanding).

So I understand that.  But in the sense that most people mean, I am isolated and independent.  To make clearer what I mean, I add that last part, saying that the rest of my natural life would continue without any significant changes if every human being on the planet died tomorrow.

And that's true.  To be sure, all those weak connections (for lack of a better term) to other humans and their activities would change somewhat.  But they'd have no noticeable impact on me other than a few items (no ZH, no new content on internet, no new movies to watch, and eventually the internet would fail altogether).

But the part of my life that most people call "normal life" would continue unchanged.  I'd continue to grow and raise my food.  I'd continue to eat.  I'd continue to look through my telescope at the gorgeous southern sky.  I'd continue working on the project I'm collaborating on... though I'd have to continue alone since all the other collaborators would be gone.

BTW, I know the nature of sensory, perceptual, conceptual and more-advanced-than-human consciousness better than all but one or two humans on the planet.  The project I'm collaborating on is smarter than human "inorganic consciousness".  Note that the original inventor (and project lead) already made a fully working proof-of-principle prototype.  And it works.  And it is smarter than human consciousness.  The problem being... it was vastly slower than human consciousness, which rendered it more-or-less useless in practice.  Our project is to implement the new design which will be vastly faster (faster than human consciousness).  So... he definitely totally understand the nature of advanced consciousness, and after working on this project for a few years, I think I understand everything too.  But of course the proof is in the implementation, so I can't claim I am certain I know everything he does until the new implementation works.

I know you (and most other humans) don't want hear this, but consciousness is simply a certain set of processes operating on a certain kind/configuration of mental content.  Of course sense organs are required to make these processes be consistent with reality (which is what makes consciousness useful), and also obviously some kinds of robotics (manipulators) are necessary in order to be able to "do anything with reality".

I am mostly detached from uncivilization.  I live in civilization, since everyone here is civil (me).  Well, maybe my chickens aren't intentionally civil, but I've got them in an environment where it doesn't matter (they've got tons of room to run and wander around, plus I'm bigger and stronger than them, and know how to wield tools).

Your comment about the global economy is a very salient one.  At the moment commentators are evaluating the nominees in terms of what they've said or how they've acted, essentially in isolation from the actual world experienced by voters, though clearly Trump has recognized and responded to real world concerns about illegal aliens and jobs shipped offshore.

As the election approaches the economy will be even worse and a great many voters are going to be thinking about who might improve it.  Whether valid or not, Trump is inevitably going to look a lot better in that regard than probably all the others.

Who else would have the strength to cut off the welfare bums, means test the retired, cut government, solve the illegal problem, work to balance the budget, etc - it will take an independent and arrogant person.  That is if he lives to see some of it achieved.

Trump isn't arrogant. He's just a straight talker with intelligence and self confidence.

Taking a phrase out of context, I think what some people are really saying is that he's "uppity." Not you in particular but I see "arrogant" used a lot in this sense get down to it.

Obama in his Mussolini wanna be poses is an arrogant ass. Ditto when he's in his phone and a pen mode or apologizing for America before all the nations of the world.

If we're testing the March 2009 lows on the S&P by the spring of 2016 -- primary season -- for the third time in fifteen years, TPTB will be in deep doo-doo and this presidential cycle will be anything but politics as usual. In that case both Trump and Sanders will likely be nominated, as they will reflect the polarized opposites to which the right and left will flee under stress. Otherwise I expect another yawner featuring TPTB's hand-picked politicos, Jeb v. Hill. This fall will tell the tale.

NO President, Democrat, Republican or Independent ... can change Washington.  Do you think that the Congressmen and Sentors will vote in a way that harms the special interests who hand them money?  Any President will be stalemated in Congress, if they attempt radical cuts in programs, personnel, or Congressional incomes.

I have yet to hear Donald Trump talk seriously about any ISSUE.  I doubt that he has the knowledge or ideas to fix the system.  Why would a real estate broker from the Bronx be able to "fix" the System?  He's a PART of the System, he profited from it for his whole career.

To hell with voting. The elections have been rigged for my whole life and the outcomes are predetermined. The anti-Semites on here will go ape-sh** over this, but Israeli elections are a beacon of freedom to the whole world compared to elections in the USA.

I swore an oath to defend and uphold The Constitution, not the illegitimate, totalitarian, fascist, oligarchy-controlled government run by a pile of greedy, mercenary ho's. The entire system of institutions and governance in the United States are rotten and irredeemably corrupt.

So, yes, I'm all for Donald Trump. I don't think that he has a chance of "winning" or even staying alive until November 2016. But, if he helps speed the collapse of our Unconstitutional, rotten and corrupt system, then I'm all in!

It isn't about The Donald, really. However he represents to a long suffering White America a, well to use Tyler's phrase, MIDDLE-FINGER to the Ruling Tribe. Whether they are aware of the Tribe or not. I can tell you that the anger amongst our White brothers and sisters is RISING. Yet too many have NO idea who was behind their present and forthcoming hell.

Just look at the job Zero Hedge does. They are WAY AHEAD in terms of prognosis of the American, indeed World economies. While the BIG MONEY is either STUPID beyond belief or conscious and evil LIARS.

If ZH did nothing more than that it would be worthwhile. However ZH represents with its articles a TRUTH MACHINE that would, if enough folks read it, truly start a liberation that would CRUSH the Evil Machine.

Don't forget that the Department of Homeland Security has stated that Whites who are pro-2nd Amendment, Tea Partiers, and those for an Immigration Moratorium are the REAL terrorists.

Just look to England for what is coming HERE to the USSA and sooner than you think:

David Cameron takes on “non-violent extremists”

So what is a non-violent extremist? Who decides what is non-illegal but non-permissible speech? When will the new speech codes be published? The proposed counter-extremism bill will be unveiled in the autumn. More detail has already been provided by the Home Secretary who said that Blacklists are to be introduced to prevent “extremists” from working in the public sector. (Members of right-wing parties are already routinely sacked in the private sector though this has to be done carefully to avoid breaching European law).

There are also plans to introduce ‘Extremism disruption orders’ which will enable the banning of individuals from the internet or speaking at public events, protests and meetings. These ‘extremists’ will also have to inform the police in advance of any public event, protest or meeting that they plan to attend. An ‘extremist’ could be someone who criticises Sharia law or gay marriage.

The new wheezes are variations on old themes. The Home Secretary wants to ban “radical preachers and neo-nazis” from making television appearances. Internet companies will be encouraged to identify potential terrorists, passports will be withheld.

Meanwhile in Britain new measures are already rolling out. Informal Internment has already been re-introduced in the case of White nationalist Joshua Bonehill. This non-violent nationalist has been refused bail pending his next court appearance on 21 September after being charged with publishing or distributing written material intended to incite racial hatred. He already has the doubtful distinction of being the recipient of Britain’s first internet Anti-Social Behaviour Order. He has also been banned from entering London to attend an anti-Shomrim demo.

You are so right!.

David Cameron has stolen the government of Britain on little more than a third of the popular vote.

The system of democracy in Britain makes North Korea look good.

When a party gets a third of the vote and take over half the seats in its house.

When 24% of the voters of Scotland can vote Labour and end up with 1 seat.

When 4,000,000 Brits can vote UKIP and end up with 1 seat.

That is no democracy, its a version of the dear leader.

Its a democratic fraud, farce and insult.

As for Cameron.

We thought Blair was a sh*t.

Believe me Cameron is going to make him look Kindergarten.

Cameron - for all his baby face - is one of the most evil swiines on the international stage.

He and Hillary are a pair.

God help us.

Trump is no Nigel Farage.

But he is the nearest thing you have.

Don't be the fools the British were on May 7th and already regretting.

When they were conned and lied back to the traditional line - and fell for it.

Use the middle finger and make your statement.

You may not get another chance

Americans haven't lost sight of the fact that we all came out of a female hole. What the slime in public office have ignored is that we Americans overthrew the likes of a King and his cohorts to be free to be you and me. And real patriots put their fortunes and lives on the line to effectuate the overthrow. Are you listening, Washington? You better wake up because we Americans are not going to stand for too much more of your bullshit. Oh! did I misspeak? Come and get me. I'm the house with the Confederate flag flying next to Old Glory.

The Jeb Bush republicrats are getting what they deserve. The GOP can take McCain and  Boehner with you.

People are tired of just a nameplate  (Democrat/Republican) change.

Both the Democrats and Republicans will spend a lot of money trying to stop Trump. All sorts of damaging commercials.
