The Wednesday morning murders of 24-year-old Roanoke TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were a racist atrocity, a hate crime. Were they not white, they would be alive today.
Their killer, Vester L. Flanagan II, said as much in his farewell screed. He ordered his murder weapon, he said, two days after the slaughter of nine congregants at the African-American AME church in Charleston, South Carolina.
“What sent me over the top was the church shooting,” said Flanagan.
To be sure, racism does not fully explain why Flanagan, fired from that same WDBJ7 station, committed this act of pure evil.
Black and homosexual, he said he was the target of anti-gay slurs from black males and racial insults from white colleagues. He had gotten himself fired from other jobs in broadcasting. He carried a grab bag of grudges and resentments.
Yet, in the last analysis, The Washington Post headline got it right: “Gunman’s letter frames attack as racial revenge.”
Other news organizations downplayed the racial aspect. But had those murdered journalists been young and black, and their killer a 40-something “angry white male,” the racial motivation would have been front and center in their stories.
Now, Black America is surely as sickened by this horror outside Roanoke as was White America by the Charleston massacre.
But it is hard to see how and when we come together as a people. For racial crimes and race conflict have become “the story” that everyone seizes upon — since Ferguson in the summer of 2014.
On the first anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, protesters blocked public buildings in St. Louis and St. Louis County, shut down I-70 at rush hour. In Ferguson, hoodlums rioted and looted for days.
What justification was there for such lawlessness?
Explained some in the press, it was to protest the failure to prosecute a white cop who had killed an “unarmed black teenager.”
Left out of most stories was that Brown, 18, had knocked over a convenience store, throttled a clerk half his size, and was unarmed only because he failed to wrest a gun away from Officer Darren Wilson, whom a grand jury declared had acted in self-defense when he shot the charging 290-pound Brown.
Since then, we have had the Eric Garner incident on Staten Island, where a 345-pound black man, suffering from diabetes, asthma, obesity and heart disease, died of heart failure after being wrestled to the ground by five cops, none of whom was charged.
Came then the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, while in police custody.
There, six officers have been charged. Then came the death of a 12-year-old black kid in Cleveland, who was waving a toy gun.
As the incidents pile up, with white cops shooting black suspects, and black criminals killing white cops, the news goes viral and America divides along the lines of race and color, and between black and blue.
Though, let it be said, the violence in Ferguson and Baltimore was child’s play compared to Watts in ’65, Detroit and Newark in ’67, and D.C. and 100 other cities after Dr. King’s assassination in 1968.
“Can we all get along?” pleaded Rodney King, when South Central exploded in rioting, arson and looting after the L.A. cops who had beaten King were exonerated.
Answer: Probably not.
For what seems certain, ensuring that our racial divide widens and deepens, is that more incidents like those involving Michael Brown, Eric Garner and Freddie Gray are inevitable.
Why so?
First, violent crime, declining since the early 1990s, is rising again. And violent crime in black communities is many times higher than in the white communities of America.
Collisions between black suspects and criminals and white cops are going to increase, and some of these collisions are going to involve shootings. And such shootings trigger fixed, deep-seated beliefs about cops, criminals and injustice, they also cause an instantaneous taking of sides.
Moreover, this is the sort of “news” that instantly goes viral through the Internet, Facebook and 24-hour cable TV.
Liberals and Democrats take sides with the black community out of solidarity and to solidify their political base, while Republicans stand with the cops, law-and-order conservatives, and the Silent Majority in Middle America.
The race issue has even begun to split the Democrats.
When former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, a card-carrying liberal, attended a conference of Netroots Nation and responded to a chant of “Black Lives Matter!” with the more inclusive, “Black Lives Matter! White Lives Matter! All Lives Matter!” he was virtually booed off the stage.
O’Malley proceeded to apologize for including the white folks.
To many Americans, even many who did not vote for him, the election of Barack Obama seemed to hold out the promise that our racial divide could be healed by a black president.
Even Obama’s supporters must concede it did not happen, though we would, again, argue angrily over why.

I don't recognize the their alleged "culture" as being anything but ABHORRENT. They don't value work or education, they flaunt laws, they worship violence and misogyny, on and on. It is a disgrace. Of course that isn't universally true, but it seems to be the majority.
Someone long ago had a great idea about returning the recently freed black man to his own land where he could be autonomous and decide his own fate. The dream was Liberia. It should have been compulsory. Today, Africans don't want American blacks. They are abhorrent to them as well.
This is true - if you look at the black social structure in 30's, 40's & 50's you see steady solid gains in education, business formation, savings and family structure. This happened in a segregated environment where they were pretty much left to their own devices and very little social safety net. Probably mostly conservative in outlook socially.
Than along comes LBJ and 'Great Society' - all down the toilet since than to the end of the sewer pipe with Obama and this latest POS Vester.

Truth. I mentored a Zimbabwean woman on my way out from grad school (she took over my project), and she was hands-down the nicest, best-mannered, intelligent, etc. black woman I had ever met. Homogeneity is the natural state of humans. Once upon a time, your nation was your tribe or in other words, your extended, extended family. Everyone looked like you, worshipped the same God and shared a common ethical code. Every study ever done says homogeneous societies are the most peaceful, happy and fulfilling. Wbat is needed is better reporting and data gathering to understand the extent of the real underlying issue here - increasingly aggressive and lethal forces tactics deployed by police nationwide. Blacks have just experienced a lot more of this firsthand because of largely living in high crime areas where police have employed these tactics for a long time especially since the drug wars flared violence in the 80s.
I have to say that in general I usually end up siding with the victims of police brutality and violence. The system is so stacked against people who are victims even if you are white, can afford a good attorney who runs you at least $250/hr and not some court appointed flunkie, and have the time/resources/conviction to pursue the case.
The stuff that makes the news or gets paid out by cities/states to victims of police brutality is only a tip of the iceberg too for the aforemenioned reasons I mentioned. Most people simply don't have the resources or knowledge to pursue warranted action.
Same 'law and order' folks who Buchanan mentions often seem to have a high correlation with supporting any means to gather information from 'terrorists' including torture, massive gov't surveillane, etc. They are closest facist pukes who are fine with this as 'long as it isn't them.'

The #1 rule of war goes down like this (divide and conquer)... Blacks, Whites and Mexicans (some of which will be armed by governments) erupt in conflict. Blue helmets or the military shows up, your country falls and Americans of all races enjoy the fusion camps and whatever government they choose to put in place. You can throw economic collapse in there somewhere to really kick it off.
This is a worse case scenario but it isn't looking good. The best case scenario is that they are trying to cause chaos to institute disarming, either way these shootings will continue. We can deal with our race issues later, people need to refuse to engage if at all possible. We have to make a choice, which is stronger for you, your love of your country or your anger at blacks? OK, I need to comment on this, but first I need to explain myself. I am white, Canadian and a boomer. I never lived in the US, nor would I ever care to. I grew up poor, but fortunately now that I'm retired, I'm reasonably comfortable. Not rich, but ok.
I grew up in Canada during the period of the Vietnam War, the protests, the riots in the cities, the assasination of the Kennedy's and King. It focused my mind on watching the US over the years since so much of what happens in the US can have a direct impact on Canada.
We don't have ghettos in Canada. By and large our population is not armed. We observe the rule of proportionality which means that you can't shoot someone because they are on your property or kill someone because they are trying to steal your TV set. That is what the police and insurance are for. We don't have gated communities, except for the very, very rich, and by and large our population, which is made up of 165 different nationalities lives together very peacfully. Our police don't need to drive around in armoured trucks and they don't go out on the street in paramilitary garb. It wouldn't be accepted by the population. I'm sure we do have policement that are racists, but by and large, there are strong institutions in place to weed them out and prevent that problem from getting bigger.

Institutionalized humiliation is one of the worst things that society can allow. Period.
So I take a look at America today, crumbling, bankrupt, divided, with 50% of the popuation on food stamps, involved in foreign wars (specifically contrarty to the Constitution), with police forces that are paramilitary organizations, not community based services, and I have to tell you that I think you are headed for disaster. Just remember. You can arm yourselves to the teeth, dig into bunkers, close off streets, do whatever you want to do and build great walls or massive fortifications, but there are a lot more of 'them' than there are of 'you', and the 'you's' know who I am talking to right now.

He used the will of the people to be free to starve the British economically and make their prescence in India so uncomfortable that they just gave up. All of this is basically to say, 'can't we all just get along'? It may sound trite and impossible, but, the more people that are fed up with a police state, and violence, and poverty, and unfairness that you can bring over to your side the more the greedy, violence prone people among you will shrink away.
I can see where you are coming from but you must remember that your country is not the apex super power with the world reserve currency and the largest military. Our government has been slowly couped by those who wish to wield it as a weapon against others. Things are okay in Canada for now but you too will begin to see a major increase in racial and/or religious crime that will bring about the the loss of your liberties one by one.
