Refugee Crises At Dangerous Tipping Point As Hungary Deploys Army, Germany Loses Patience

Tyler Durden's picture

"I'm not happy. I had to leave Syria — I love Syria, but so much killing there."

That’s from 17-year old Mohammed Al-Hamdan who made it across the Hungarian border with Serbia at a railroad crossing near the village of Roszke before it was closed on Tuesday. As NBC reports, “just before Hungarian police closed the railroad crossing, a Syrian family ran down the tracks trying to make it through, the patriarch screaming to his wife and small children, ‘Yallah, yallah!’ — Arabic for ‘Let's go!’” Before closing the "popular" passage, Hungary had reportedly begun hauling migrants on to trains and shipping them straight to the Austrian border. “The situation is that after crossing the border these people have arrived at the collection point in Roszke, where there is no official procedure, people are just being collected. Earlier these people were being taken to the registration points ... this is not happening now, but rather, buses are taking people from the collection point to the Roszke train station according to our information,” a UNHCR spokesman told Reuters.

Of course even for the migrants who were "lucky" enough to be rounded up and shipped to Austria as opposed to being stranded behind Hungary's new migrant-be-gone fence, their fate is far from certain. As The New York Times noted on Monday, Austrian officials have now sent "2,200 soldiers to help reinforce the eastern border."

The rush to get into the Hungary came as the country largely completed a four meter, razor wire fence meant to cut off the flow of refugees and channel them to official registration centers where they can apply for asylum. “If their applications are refused,” BBC says, “they will now be returned to Serbia rather than being given passage through Hungary.”

Government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs says "official and legal ways to come to Hungary and therefore to the European Union remain open.”

“All we ask from all migrants [is] that they should comply with international and European law,” he added.

There’s a certain extent to which Hungary’s frustrations are understandable. For many refugees, the path to the German “promised land” goes through Hungary, and the means the flow of people is daunting.

That said, Kovacs’ comments seem to perhaps overstate the government’s desire to help asylum seekers enter and/or traverse the country legally. New laws that went into effect at midnight now permit police to arrest anyone who attempts to breach the razor wire fence. Damaging the fence is now punishable by imprisonment or deportation and mounted police have been deployed to the border. Here are the images:

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's rhetoric suggests little tolerance for any meaningful demographic shift in Hungary. "Hungary is a country with a 1,000-year-old Christian culture. We Hungarians don't want the global-sized movement of people to change Hungary," Orban said on Monday. He also told border police that “illegal border crossings will no longer be misdemeanors but felonies punishable with prison terms or bans.” Showing his generous side, Orban did say police should treat the migrants like human beings. Additionally, the declaration of a state of emergency is likely to pave the way for the approval of a large military presence and as AP reports, Orban doesn't appear to have waited on Parliament:

Hungary on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in two of its southeastern counties in response to the migration crisis, a move that paves the way to deploy the army to the border with Serbia to stop the flow of migrants that has been entering the country.

Technically, parliament must still approve the deployment of the military. However, Associated Press reporters at the border have already spotted heavily armed military personnel with vehicles and dogs at the border in recent days.

But anyone sent to Serbia faces the terrifying possibility that they will be denied asylum there as well. Here's Reuters:

Serbia, an impoverished ex-Yugoslav republic years away from joining the EU, says it is readying more temporary accommodation, but warned it would not accept anyone turned back from Hungarian territory.

The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, reiterated on Tuesday that it advised against sending refugees back to Serbia. "Safe third country" status implies refugees have a fair chance of being granted asylum and would receive the necessary protections and support.

Rights groups say Serbia meets none of the criteria and is still finding homes for thousands of its own refugees from the collapse of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, the last time Europe confronted displacement of people on such a scale.

“That's no longer our responsibility,” Aleksandar Vulin, the minister in charge of policy on migrants, told the Tanjug state news agency. “They are on Hungarian territory and I expect the Hungarian state to behave accordingly towards them.”

So too, apparently, does Germany, where Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel looks to be reaching the end of his patience with some countries' perceived recalcitrance. "Germany can’t be there as the paymaster in Europe and everybody is around when they need money, but no one participates when responsibility must be taken. If this goes on then that’s the end of the current funding basis."

There was no consensus to be found on Tuesday on a plan to use a quota system proposed by Jeane Claude-Juncker last week to settle some 160,000 refugees - for now, only 40,000 will be relocated. Hungary was one of three countries in opposition. Echoing Gabriel, Germany's Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere suggested that Berlin may soon be forced to "exert pressure" on countries that refuse to cooperate.

As should be clear from the above, this has the potential to create a very dangerous situation in EU countries who oppose quotas but are pressured by Berline, Paris, and Brussels to comply. Where there are already elements of xenophobia in place, and where those feelings are being amplified and perpetuated by the government, the perception that Germany is forcing an unwanted demographic shift might well serve to fan the flames not only of nationalism but of religious intolerance, especially given the likelihood that those opposed to settling the migrants will be predisposed to stirring up fears of ISIS operatives slipping into Europe disguised as refugees.

And just as we said last week when we documented the construction of the anti-mirgrant fence in Hungary, "it's not clear whether 12 feet of razor wire will be enough to dissuade those who are fleeing from bullets, tanks, barrel bombs, and sword-weilding jihadists, meaning the question really isn't how to keep migrants out, but rather how to handle the situation once migrants get in." On that note, we'll close with the following account from Reuters:

Having spent the night in the open, families with small children sat in fields beneath a new 3.5-metre high fence running almost the length of the EU’s external border with Serbia, halted by a right-wing government that hailed a “new era”.

Others pressed against gates, confused and demanding passage. More still sat on the main highway from Serbia to Hungary. "I will sit here until they open the border. I cannot go back to Syria. Life in Syria is finished," said a Kurd from Syria who gave his name as Bower.

What's the betting that the German .gov is working out, as we watch, what to do with all these refugees/economic migrants.

A plan called "The Final Solution II" will soon be revealed and Mutti will announce it with a wry smile but absent any "Heil Hitler"s.

According to the Lebanese education minister, Elias Bousaab, 2% of the refugees could be ISIS supporters or fighters.

2% of 1 million refugees flooding into Germany means 20,000 ISIS nutjobs running amok in central Europe.

That 2% seems a very optimistic number based on Pew polls and other Polling data of Muslims.

Once identified, it takes 15 police to provide 24hour surveillance for just one Jihadi.  That does not include the police that will be needed to keep little German girls from being Muslim-gangraped in back alleys all over Germany.

The ruling elite destabilize a region for money and power and the common person has to pick up the through through blood, sweat, and hard labor. Will it ever change? Not unless there is a paradigm shift that labels these "leaders' as psychopaths and they are treated accordingly. Merkels' job is of a mouthpiece for the banking cartel, as are all politicians, foisting the responsibility of a regions' instability on the EU citizen, rather than where it belongs - the MIC and big oil(aka. All these opinions that send out fear messages are nothing else than lies. If these people can create some form of home and fit in the society because they are made welcome, then there is no reason for terrorism. Terrorism is created by the unjustifiable wars and the apertheid regime in Gaza prison,  that leave these people no window of hope. Terrorism is the ultimate despair where the terrorist has nothing to loose. Forget the virgins in the after life. this is as we all know a fantasy. People know when they die they do not take their bodies to the spirit world, so the virgins are only fables in reality.

have you noticed how islam is like the borg, from star trek next generation?

they both were conquerors thru migrant assimilation of invaded territories.

they both had a mandate of "assimilate or die."

the borg lived in a large cube in outer space - the muslims journey to mecca to march around their own cube, called kaaba.

borg and muslims exist in a collective hive-mind culture, ruled by few.

Sure come to europe.. we'll all take care of you, i mean.. we don't even take good care of our own people. I am so totally sure this is going to sink in well with the native population who already feels crowded out by so called multiculturalism. Check mate i would say, one has to wonder why they all come here after there is still a war going on for over four years in Syria. Why now? I believe most come from Turkey, some are kurds, and a lot of these so called refugees i suspect are ISIS. So congrats Europe, for being so dumbed down about your own history and total neglect for your future. Has europe forgotten that we used to fight the ottoman empire and now Erdogan has a wet dream, he is making a reality. No, i won't hold my tongue for this. Over here you are deemed a racist if you stand up for your own people, we are now dubbing this positive discrimination. Its ridiculus. Now they annouched all open job applications will go to the refugees at once they enter the country and they will get housing. I mean seriously. people have been waiting for social housing, and renting a place for over 10 years. and people over here are still trying to cope with unemployment and trying to get a job. I think this was all planned out, and i dare even to say they are planning for war in Europe. Vladimir Putin, already said that ISIS is going for Europe, today on RT news. I wonder what moanings CNN or Reuters, or Bloomberg will come up with. Not that i didn't expect this already since ISIS wanted to make europe into a caliphate and annouched it years ago, they might actually be able to stirr things up. I wonder when this proxy war is going to end from the shadows, and goes into a full blown open war. Or who knows, maybe we'll all get lucky and get that big global market crash, then everyone will be so poor that no one will have any incentive even moving to another country any longer. =p

It is amazing the atitudes of some people on this site. You are exactly like the MSM is blaming the refuges instead of the real causes which is NATO, Turkey, US, etc. supporting ISIS and bombing the Syrian army. These people did not leave because they wanted to but were driven out by the war and the total collapse of their economies. These poor people left almost everything they owned except what they could carry. The countries in the European Union owe to these refuges a country to live in as it NATO itself that has and is taking part in the violence in the Middle East especially in Syria. The people of Europe are finally waking up to the fact that NATO was part of the problem and this can be seen by the pro-immigration demostrations all over Europe and in England. Europe has a direct responsibility in taking care of these people as do the US, Canada and Australia. The US will take in 10,000 now but this number will be in the millions in the near future. European countries were secretly supporting but as of the last two days opening supporting the Russians and Iranians sending troops, jets, and equipment into Syria. Most European leaders now realize if ISIS is not stopped that the flow of refuges will be in the millions which will collapse every EU country economically and cause the social fabric to unwind. One member of the German parliment went so far as to state that they should send in German solders to fight along side of the Russians and Iranians.

What you are witnessing is the total collapse of the entire west caused by poor economic management and constant war by the status quo. As the Europeans have felt directly their standard of living collapsing, the average American will feel much more pain in the near future. With 93 million Americans out of the workforce, (the same number going back to 1977), this will rise as millions of immagrants have and still are coming into the US. Unemployment is actually around 23%, not the bogus figure the US uses. If you are a follower of Martin Armsrtong's ECM prediction computer model, the European Union will totally collapse along with a host of other countries as they will not be able to pay off their debt, (take Greece now for example). Riots will ensue and governments themselves will collapse. This is happening now! As vast sums of money leave Europe and Asia, most will go into US Treasuries. When investors realize that the US is worse of than most, this will cause the bond bubble to burst as funds flow into US equities. The only game left in town! The US will have to raise taxes drastically causing even more of a slow down in the economy as people have less disposable income. This is when the US, state and local govenments cut social benefits like social security, ebt cards, etc. Most government pension funds are not only underfunded but are having more funds flow out than in. Just take a look at Illinois and Chicago. They tried to cut monthly pensions but the Illinois Supreme Court ruled they can't. Of course they would as their pensions would be effected to. The state and Chicago has not choice but to raise taxes across the board on everyone. This will contribute to the area falling deeper into the economic abyss. This will happen everywhere throughout the US. When people realize that their benefits were cut to pay for government pensions, this is when the riots take place throughout the US. Governments know this is going to happen and that is wht Homeland Security thru the Pentagon has armed to the teeth all local law enforcement agencies, providing military vehicles, automatic weapons, (already used in Boston and Ferguson), stun gernades, etc., etc,. etc. The whole economic and social fabric of the US and the west is starting now to implode. Governments know that the life styles and the huge government spending is not sustainable and are preparing for the worst!!

Oh, I agree with that. The USA and Britain seems to be playing the role of prostitutes for the Saudis.

But, come on!  This is not a chicken and egg question with no clear answer.  The Saudi money is helping foment a civil insurrection amongst Sunnis for the purpose of overthrowing Assad, an Alawite. The Turks are a major force for this as Erdogan wants to be the next Caliph.

For some strange reason that makes no sense to anyone who views the bigger picture, the USA still feels a need to back Saudi and Turkey despite the fact that the Cold War is long ended.   So the USA is VERY wrong in this.

But , again, Islam is the root cause of this migrant crisis because Sunni Arabs and Turks want to recreate an Ottoman empire and are causing the destruction of Syria to accomplish that goal.  The USA and Britain should be working with Russia to stop ISIS and the Sunni uprisings/Jihadists.

The World is parking its money in the USA, for better or worse, for a reason.  I think this Saudi Influence has to do more with Corruption and the industry-Washington revolving door than to a legitimate concern about Saudi strings on the US economy.

"The countries in the European Union owe to these refuges a country to live in as it NATO itself that has and is taking part in the violence in the Middle East especially in Syria."

Sorry JIMSJOE2, but the people of Europe don't owe anyone squat. It's their governments that the people from the MENA have a beef with. Justice should be served on these ZWO scum, but Europe should not be handed over to any people of this Earth, regardless of reason. Just because the Middle East and North Africa have been blown to hell is no reason to destroy Europe as well. You're coming across as a typical Liberal troll with that approach.

As for "Europe has a direct responsibility in taking care of these people as do the US, Canada and Australia..." - That's just collectivization at its worst. It's the goverments of these countries that are to blame - not the Western populations of these territories - but in your mind you think it would serve justice to place the weight of punishment on them. Poor philosophy friend. Try holding those guilty to account instead.

Crap like this will continue until the West purges itself of traitors, not just in NATO, but in all branches of government, and rids itself of the bankster class and their tribe.

Since I am neither bankster, nor politician, nor active military personell serving in their war zones I - and all others that don't fit that bill are not responsible - Western or otherwise. Perhaps you didn't get the meme - the West is currently run by occupying powers, it's people cut off from all governmental representation, and as such is no longer "by the people and of the people."

Sorry I don't possess the means to liberate the entire West, you idiot - but nobody, other than yourself is tasking me with that anyway. Only one so deluded as yourself would conclude that somehow makes me complicit in the NWO crimes list.

In case others are interested in how this works, I can share some history of what happened with Vietnamese refugees.  This is similar.

The US military finally got chased out of Saigon April 30 1975. Within a few years there were tens of thousands of "boat people" fleeing.  Many died at sea but thousands made it to Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indo and Philippines.  Those countries did NOT assimilate any Vietnamese into their populations.  NO WAY.   "refugee camps" funded by UNHCR housed them, like prisons there was no escaping.

The American immigration dept (INS back on the day) then sent officers to interview the refugees, process paperwork, and give them visas to immigrate to USA to the tune of 10,000 per month approx, and once they got to USA with support from various church relief groups across the country, they evenually formed concentrated communities of their own in Garden Grove CA, Fresno CA and Minneapolis.

Other countries like France, Norway, Australia and Germany took some but USA got the mass bulk.  In case anyone thought the "boat people" floated from Vietnam to get here, no. First they were gathered up into camps then processed and sent here.

Just like what's going on now.  You'll have millions of people in camps in Europe, they will absolutely refuse to go back to their Arabian homeland, and almost ALL of them will end up in USA even if we have someone like Trump in the white house.

The lobby behind the scenes that works to fill America with refugees and chain migration (families that follow) is very persistent and hell-vent on wrecking us.  Just look around in your communities for evidence of this.  The question is, where in USA will the muslims claim for their homeland.  I guess Michigan?

Mexicans are the LEAST of our problems folks.  In my lifetime there will be muslims beheading non-muslim school teachers, mail carriers, anyone who is in their community within America will be targeted for murder if they're not raising their ass 5x per day.  Mark my word.

On top of that, there is a growing sense that maybe we can sort our problems out here by shooting each other (as it seems to be the only way to get rid of Socialists), and I'm fine with that, and think that I'll see it happen well within my lifetime. The problem that the Syrians have is, both sides are going to have them in their sights, and they'll be targets of opportunity whenever they are encountered should we start the shit show.

In my town we have a neighborhood called "Little Saigon."  Great place for restaurants and grocery stores.  The first generation kept itself to itself, but now we have a lot of people with names that start with "Ng" running for city council or heading up businesses.  The second and third generations have been "assimilated."  I expect the Syrian refugees will be, too.  Although we will probably see more Syrian Orthodox and Armenian Orthodox churches in town along with a couple of mosques.

The Vietnamese refugees spent years in camps before we allowed some of them in.  When we finally did, there were people around who were willing to help them.  The pace was not so rapid and uncontrolled as it is currently in Eastern Europe.

The Vietnamese that left were generally the wealthier, more hard-working, and generally better educated of their fellow countrymen. The "Syrians" that are going to Europe were safe in Turkey, but going to Europe for free shit. They are economic refugees, not war refugees (as they were ostensibly safe in Turkey before).

The Vietnamese were also generally Catholic, Buddhist or Cao Dai, and had no real problem integrating into a European-based culture thanks to prolonged exposure to French colonialism. The Vietnamese I've been associated with have a value system that generally mirrors (sometimes surpasses in a few aspects) the general set of values commonly found throughout the US. They, almost without exception prioritize education, hard-work, self-sacrifice for the sake of the family and honor traditional values. I'm not saying that they are perfect by any means, but there is some common ground. They came here to integrate, not to conquer. Muslims, by definition, can never integrate.

All of the front men/woman elected by us or not in the case of the EU commissars, are just useful idiots and will do exactly as they are told by their masters, who stay well hidden in the shadows.

Sudden mass immigration (for whatever reason) into an already creaking and fragile infrastructure makes absolutely no sense and is totally pointless when you consider the actual size of the rapidly expanding population, in some parts of the world. When you add (radical) Islam and a culture of extreme and sickening violence into the mix, like a cancer it will eventually not only destroy the host, but all of those who genuinely requested help in the first place.

So basically we have an agenda that is designed to usher in a complete societal breakdown. No amount of wishful thinking or idol threats regarding voting for 'someone else next time', will alter this fact.

Hungary does what it is supposed to do, protecting the Eu border after Angela Merkel created an illegal migrant Facebook  Flashmob with her silly remarks to let everbody in. And surprise the world showed up. 80% young males, some of them ISIS. 13000 per day at the Munich railway station. Mainstream media prints pictures of poor families and sweet kids 24x7. Now Germany presses the neighbours to take them too.

Besides, a Syrian Kurd is save in the Kurdish zone, except in PKK camp being bombed by NATO country Turkey with permission of the US. Germany should shut up and help Hungary to build forward camps to process real refugees. Support refugee camps in the middle east region. They cant be fed because a few millions are missing. This is not only a mass migration but an invasion.

By now you all know that I suspect the US mid east wars caused this mass migration, and the EU Benefits systems added fuel to the fire. The USA gains much by causing this flood with it's invasions and bombings all across North Africa and the Mid East.

Jack, thanks for stating the bleeding obvious. Well, reminding us of it. It is a pity the bleeding obvious hasn't filtered into the consciousness of more of the voting population. It's probably a bit like the marketing 'S' curve, where it takes as long for the first ten percent of the population to 'buy' it as for the next forty percent. Then all of a sudden everyone gets it, except for the last ten percent of troglodytes. I suspect not even ten percent get it yet.

Why aren't people questioning why "immigrants" are allowed in at all? To me, the only logical explanation for state-sponsored immigration is that the socialist programs can't function on 0% population growth. It's the exact same scenario here in the US with our "dreamers". SS, Medicaid, Medicare, etc can't function with 1 worker to 1 recipient (which is almost exactly what we have right now).

Populations in nature increase and decrease. Why must socialists always think that the human population must continually grow? So what if we have no population growth? It doesn't matter if we have a declining population. The population will reach a sustainable size for it's given location at some point. No need to mandate a specific percentage of growth. And, it's not like these immigrants will be useful, tax paying citizens that contribute to their new culture. They are there like locusts to consume.
