DoD Admits US SpecOps "Boots On The Ground" In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

With the Russians on the ground at Latakia shoring up the Assad regime and with tensions between Washington and Moscow at a fever pitch over the Kremlin’s involvement, the Pentagon now says US boots are officially on the ground in Syria - you know, to help fight ISIS...

Of course, if true, the whole "assisting Kurdish forces" won't go over well with Turkey's Erdogan, the US's brand new coalition partner against ISIS who has made no secret of his distrust for the YPG.

Then again, there had to be some pretext for an imminent escalation with Russia and since it's all a convoluted, bloody mess at this point, "helping Kurdish forces" is just as good as any other excuse we suppose.

Help the Kurds and stop any Russian pipelines from going through Turkey.Divide it up and give half to the Kurds. The U.S. uses this to bring about discontent in northern Iran since the Kurds control northern Iraq. You bring back the Kurd homeland and bring about difficulty for Russia and Iran causing more war.

US & EU seeks to create Qatar-Turkey pipeline through Syria. That would be alternative for Russian gas in EU. So it means a major problem for Russian elite as China economy slowing down and gas deal is still not working. For Russian elite Ukraine is nothing in compare with this problem. But Syria has been an ally to Russia since 1971 when Assad’s father made deal with USSR to create naval supply and maintenance base (reality on the ground is different – its hard to call a base at all). Since then Syria is a major client for Russian military complex. So what Russian elite did was veto on Qatar-Turkey pipeline project. So what Qatar did was it organized Assad overthrow and US with EU gave a helping hand – just to get rid of Assad in order to get this project going. So why Russian elite decided to step in now? Well, things for Assad regime go bad lately. Lot of territory lost and actually end of Assad is very close. So after Assad Qatar with EU, US, Turkey (they will be happy to get rid of Kurds as they will have their country on old Syria territory) and Kurds will divide Syria. In result Russia elite can lose not only that “naval base” – but most importantly major client for it’s gas – EU. And that could be devastating blow for Russian economy. So what Russian elite hope to do is to get some piece of land in Syria to control it after Syria is dived where Assad alawites can hold their ground and still block Qatar-Turkey pipeline project. I think this is too late at this stage and Russia will only lose it’s resources and this will be hard to explain at home. But I guess as Russian elite controls media it will manage to deal with that problem. Still, if this project gets through – Russia economy is in very serious trouble and there can be a collapse. So that is what’s going on in Syria.

After Russia elite made military support to Assad (look at this map - it's super minority) which is hated by Sunni it will get revange from Islamic terrorists in Caucasus region and in heart of Russia - that will destabilze Russia.

How can you say goodbye to your wife and kids and deploy with your buddies knowing full well that six months prior your unit or some "friendly" affiliate supplied and trained your future opposition?

At what point do your neurons kick-in and tell you are ouroboros.

Who holds the Higher Moral Ground in this fight for the Energy Market?  When US paid off Bulgarian politicians to refuse Russia's South Stream gas line Russia did not then send operatives into Bulgaria spreading lies, anger, propaganda and bribes to create a civil war in Bulgaria.  When Syrian leaders aligned with Russia refused US building the Qatar-Turkey gas line US DID then send operatives into Syria spreading lies, anger, propaganda and bribes to create civil war in Syria,  The immorality of the methods used by the US are displayed by the results - Ukraine, Syria, Libya, Iran etc.  Bith Russia and the West have the right to fight for market share, but they did not have the right to use the dishinest, immoral, sick methods that the US only will stoop to to get it.

The CIA acting outside their authority creates a group called ISIS(publicly admitted) so the unlawful DOD also acting outside their authority can make the unlawful claim to go into Syria to stop the boogeyman ISIS.

Virtually everything the Federal government is doing is without authority in some way. The people are to stupid and apathetic to give shit.

I don't think you are going to see Russian soldiers in the fighting. They will provide training, intel and logistical support. But I see the threat implied that the Anti Aircraft upgrade isn't meant for ISIS. They don't have an Air Force

It will be to stop pre-emptive attacks by the US, Israel and Turkey. Those missiles will be shot down. Highlighting Russian defensive weaponry as a counter to air superiority

Does Obama/Kerry really think Russia did all this for a bluff? Send a bombing run over those new missile sites and find out.

When I was a teenager in the 80s the presidents staff (NSC) had been running an illegal war in Nicaraugua.  When Congress got word of it everyone from the staff level up to the SECDEF and NSC Advisor got hauled in front of congress and interrogated on televison for 2 straight weeks.  Eventually they scape goated a dumb ass Marine Ltc and sent him to jail for lying to congress although a light sentence.  Fast forward to 2015 and the current adminstration has run illegal wars in Libya, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Ukraine and god knows where else, and that doesnt even include the fine work of the previous administration.  And what has congress done about it? Oh look its tee time got to go.

Since "we" have begun to fight ISIS, the group has vastly extended its territory. Recently it has taken Assad's last oil & gas field, it has taken Palmyra in Syria (where it is busy transforming ruins into smaller ruins) and not to forget, Ramadi - Iraq's third-largest city. From this one must conclude that the "fight against ISIS" isn't proceeding as well as had been hoped.
