This Is The Satellite Image That Supposedly Proves The Presence Of Russian "Troops And Aircraft" In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

In a day of diplomatic snafus by the Pentagon, which first admitted it had spec ops forces in Syria (remember when it was just "advisors" and the Obama administration was blaming Russia for escalating the conflict by daring to join the fight against ISIS and sending its own troops in Damascus) then promptly retracted, using the old "there was no Freudian slip" explanation, the US promptly needed another diversion to cast the blame back in Putin's court.

Which brings us to our post from Monday in which "anonymous" US officials told Reuters that "Russia has positioned about a half dozen tanks at a Syrian airfield where it has been steadily building up defenses" with Reuters adding that "one of the U.S. officials said seven Russian T-90 tanks were seen at the airfield near Latakia, a stronghold of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The two U.S. officials said Russia had also positioned artillery there" adding that "the two U.S. officials said Russia had also positioned artillery, which they said appeared."

Our request was simple: "We can only hope the "anonymous" US officials will soon provide photographic evidence of their claims."

Today, we got this "evidence" when Foreign Policy magazine released a satellite image which, according to the author Jeffrey Lewis "Leaves No Doubt That Russia Is Throwing Troops and Aircraft Into Syria."

On Sept. 4, the New York Times published an article suggesting that Russia had shipped prefabricated housing and a transportable air traffic control station to an airfield near Latakia. It was a great scoop, but I was pretty baffled that the New York Times didn’t bother to purchase a satellite image of the facility. Had they done so, they would have realized that they buried the lede.

The satellite image shows far more than prefabricated housing and an air traffic control station. It shows extensive construction of what appears to be a military canton at Bassel al-Assad International Airport (named for Bashar’s elder brother, who died in a car accident in 1994). This canton appears designed to support Russian combat air operations from the base and may serve as a logistical hub for Russian combat forces.

The scale of the construction goes even further. A large area of ground has been cleared in many different parts of the air base. There are pallets and crates everywhere. Trucks are visible driving into the site. The image drives home the implication of all those flights and shipments heading to Syria: Russia is substantially expanding its involvement.

Is there "no doubt" as the author claims this is happening? We leave it to readers to decide. One thing that is certain is that earlier today it was the US which first admitted it had spec ops in Syria in what could be the most inconvenient Freudian slip in recent "proxy war" history, and then was promptly forced to retract it.

As for Russian forces "undoubtedly" throwing troops into Syria, well - decide for yourself. Here is FP's before and after satellite image "evidence." It's important because images such as these are the modern equivalent of Colin Powell's vial of WMDs presented to the United Nations in 2003 to justify the war with Iraq.

Hey? Did you guys catch the resolution of those images from Pluto?

Those were taken at a "stated" range of 50,000 miles, with clarity in the resolution of [ .5 miles]

 1582/2= 791 or .5 miles @ 50-60 thousand miles per hour , at 50 thousand miles.

 Any Questions?

Vlad told everyone what they need to know when he ringed naval forces around Syria and dared Bath House to fire his cruise missiles directly over the Russian Naval Forces.

If the Bath House had not backed down and pulled trigger, the missiles would have been taken out and possibly a USN cruiser.

This is what one Russian source says:

"What appears to be happening is this: the Russians are, apparently, sending some limited but important gear to provide immediate assistance to the Syrian forces. In doing so, they have also created the conditions to keep their options open. So while there is not massive Russian intervention taking place, something has definitely shifted in the Syrian conflict. ...

"To summarize the above I would say this: the Empire is freaking out because their war against Syria has failed; while Daesh has created havoc and terror in several countries, there are many signs that the local countries are gradually becoming determined to do something.

"The US has also failed to get rid of Assad, the massive refugee crisis has triggered a major political crisis in Europe, and now the Europeans are looking at Assad in a dramatically different light than before."

Assad, not a really nice guy, has had a legitimate, secular government. He does have a lot of support.

Now, is Russia in there trying to overthrow him?
No, 'someone' else is.

So, I conclude the Russkies are the good guys in this scenario, while 'other' governments have been taken over by special interests.

It will be interesting to see Turkey's position on the use of it’s straits for Russian military cargo transit to Syria. If Turkey will deny it, Russia military goods only maritime gateway to Syria will begin in the Baltic. But it will become problem only if Turkey will deny Russian military transit to Syria through Bosfra and Dardanelles straits.

There is motive for Turkey do so – I already explained it previously. Will copy + paste it here for your convenience:

US & EU seeks to create Qatar-Turkey pipeline through Syria. That would be alternative for Russian gas in EU. So it means a major problem for Russian elite as China economy slowing down and gas deal is still not working. For Russian elite Ukraine is nothing in compare with this problem. But Syria has been an ally to Russia since 1971 when Assad’s father made deal with USSR to create naval supply and maintenance base (reality on the ground is different – its hard to call a base at all). Since then Syria is a major client for Russian military complex. So what Russian elite did was veto on Qatar-Turkey pipeline project through it’s influence on Assad regime. So what Qatar did was it organized Assad overthrow and US with EU gave a helping hand – just to get rid of Assad in order to get this project going. So why Russian elite decided to step in now? Well, things for Assad regime go bad lately. Lot of territory lost and actually end of Assad is very close. So after Assad Qatar with EU, US, Turkey (they will be happy to get rid of Kurds as they will have their country on old Syria territory) and Kurds will divide Syria. In result Russia elite can lose not only that “naval base” – but most importantly major client for it’s gas – EU. And that could be devastating blow for Russian economy. So what Russian elite hope to do is to get some piece of land in Syria to control it after Syria is dived where Assad alawites can hold their ground and still block Qatar-Turkey pipeline project. I think this is too late at this stage and Russia will only lose it’s resources and this will be hard to explain at home. But I guess as Russian elite controls media it will manage to deal with that problem. Still, if this project gets through – Russia economy is in very serious trouble and there can be a collapse. So that is what’s going on in Syria.

After Russia elite made military support to Assad  which is hated by Sunni (look at this map) it will get revange from Islamic terrorists in Caucasus region and in heart of Russia - that will destabilze Russia.

Syrian, Afghani, etc. who run away to Turkey from war zone at home is refugee. But when he takes a boat to travel to EU he is an economic migrant, because there is no war in Turkey, but this Syrian seeks economic benefits from EU.

What EU must do is:

1.) Secure it’s outside borders and not to let in economic migrants;

2.) Start thinking what caused this migration and stop supporting military actions in these or other countries (But that sweet sweet gas deal Qatar-Turkey pipeline was too delicious)

3.) Military support should be only accepted to other country if it’s invaded by other aggressor country military forces / “little green man” – but not to bomb away other governments like in Libya or Afghanistan, Iraq. Or to organize military groups to overthrow government like in Syria.

If you look at these so called "war refugees" here:

https://youtu.be/NY9HYV3ZNgA

Then you will notice that majority are young males - so where are families? Where are their wife’s and children? Those should be majority - not males. So if they would be "war refugees" - shouldn't they be with families? Otherwise it looks like those males put their wife and children behind in war zone. Or maybe - just maybe they are not war refugees. Also, what “war refugee” would throw away food, water and would try to leave country that is not a war zone – there is no war in Serbia, Hungary, Turkey, etc.

Now, if we look further what will happen if those hordes of young males get into one of EU country. For Example Sweeden. They don't know their language, they don't  have job, they don't have money, they don't have house - they are living in camps. So how those males will get laid? They can't create relationship with women there - but still want to f**k. So what shall they do? The answer is - they will rape. And that is already happening. See here: https://youtu.be/P_FB1g52Goo

Just because they have not done it so far, it doesn't mean they can't do it in future. There is always negations between sides who are interested in such step. A trade-of. We shall see will US & EU & Qatar offer Turkey something worth doing such step in future. That is why I wrote “It will be interesting to see Turkey's position on the use of it’s straits for Russian military cargo transit to Syria.

Turkey has already forgot about their dreams to join Europe, they are now also looking to the east

The only proof you need that Russia is there and Obama isn't is the fact that terrorists are being killed, instead of being armed.

These pictures are a prove that our "leaders" could have seen a stream of "refugees" developing....

The biggest joke is that these are the best images the spooks can provide.  I read years ago that they can read name tags on uniforms.

That's nothing! I read that they can get inside your head and read your thoughts.

Remember that pretty much nothing you read is true. And that counts this item...

After close inspection of those photos, I'm confident I know what Russia is up to.  The grounds clearing, the paving, all the pallets.  They are going to hit the Americans where it will deal us the worst possible psycological blow, because it's something we're confident we're world leaders in now.  That's right, Russia is building the world's largest haunted house.  We can now only hope that they fumble and fill it with cheap props.

As usual, the Rooshans are plain invisible for all not to see.

My, aren't these people good at stealth!

Poor disgruntled Jim Inhofe is going to have to show pics from the Soviet era again to "prove" the Rooshan presence. Or maybe he'll just appear dressed up as Rooshan tank. That should do it.

"anonymous" US officials told Reuters that "Russia has positioned about a half dozen tanks at a Syrian airfield where it has been steadily building up defenses"

OMG !!!   You can see WMDs !!!

Mr President, Russia intends to wreck serious damage on our ISIS assets, what steps are you taking to prevent that from happening ?

Send for the Nuland !

They could very well have the pictures. Just like the black box. Won't be hearing or seeing either of those.

What scares me the most is the ground clearing, I'm shaking at the knees as a local contractor here in the Bahamas has just cleared some ground here too.

Maybe the rooskies are over here as well.
