Oregon Community College Shooter Asked Victims To "State Their Religion" Before Executing Them
Update: Details are trickling in about the latest mass shooting in the US and at least some reports indicate that the tragedy might have been tied to religion.
Here’s a bit of color from The Oregonian:
The shooter at Umpqua Community College on Thursday asked people to state their religion and then started firing, one student said.
Kortney Moore, an 18-year-old, told the News Review she was sitting in her writing class when a bullet blasted through the window. She saw her teacher shot in the head then noticed that the shooter was in the classroom.
Moore said the shooter told people to get on the ground. He then asked people to stand up and state their religion but started firing anywhere. She was on the ground next to people who'd been shot.

One student, Kortney Moore, 18, told News Review-Today that she was in her writing class in Snyder Hall when a single shot came through a window.
Moore said she saw her teacher get shot in the head, apparently after the gunman came into the classroom. At that point, Moore told the newspaper, the shooter ordered everyone to get on the ground. The shooter then asked people to stand up and state their religion and then started firing, Moore said..
A witness at the scene in Roseburg said the male shooter was shot by police and was acting alone, according The Register-Guard of Eugene. The report could not be immediately confirmed.
Finally, here's The New York Times:
A 20-year-old man went on a shooting rampage at a community college in Roseburg, Ore., on Thursday, killing multiple victims and injuring at least 20. Officials said the gunman died after an exchange of gunfire with the police.
Accounts of how many people were dead varied, with officials in the office of the Oregon attorney general, Ellen F. Rosenblum, putting the number at 13.
“We are just heartbroken here in Oregon that an act of this magnitude has occurred in our state,” Ms. Rosenblum told MSNBC. She cautioned that the situation was still developing.
A student, Brady Winder, 23, who moved to Roseburg from Portland three weeks ago, said he was in a room in Snyder Hall adjacent to where at least one shooting took place.
“I heard at least nine shots,” he said.
“There’s a door connecting our classroom to that classroom, and my teacher was going to knock on the door,” Mr. Winder said. “But she called out, `Is everybody O.K.?’ and then we heard a bunch more shots. We all froze for about half a second.”
“We heard people screaming next door,” he said. “And then everybody took off. People were hopping over desks, knocking things over.”
The tragedy is the latest in a string of violence that most recently included the murder of a Virgina TV reporter and cameraman on air and which just months ago saw nine people killed at an African American church in Chareleston, South Carolina.

Moments ago, following a lull in reports of US mass killings, the newswires lit up with reports of the latest "active shooter" incident this time on the campus of Umpqua Community College in Oregon, where according to KATU 2 News, 14 people were killed and at least 20 injured in what is still a developing situation.
The Oregonian reports:
A shooter has been reported at Umpqua Community College, according to the Douglas County Fire District's Twitter account. It's unclear how many wounded or if the shooting is still ongoing at the Roseburg campus. Sgt. Dwes Hutson, a Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman, says officers responded around 10:40 a.m. to reports of a shooting at the College. Huston could not confirm if anyone was injured.
The LA Times adds that the injured include a woman who was shot in the chest, said Chris Boice, a Douglas County commissioner. The shooting began within the last 30 minutes at Umpqua Community College.
The good news: the shooter is "down and in custody," Boice said.

I rarely find it tense meeting people in the woods. They're typically either granlola munching "free spirits" on a hike or they share similar interests to me when it comes to the outdoors. That being said, I'm always armed in one way or another. In the woods, yes, there are bears, and also, even though the norm around here is that you can walk up to a guy in the woods with a rifle slung on his shoulder is that it'll be a nice conversation, it's that one time that things aren't like the norm that you've gotta worry about. Cops rarely get there fast enough when you're in town. When you're in the woods, it should be understood that if something does go wrong, you are on your own.
Ditto. The only time I don't cc is when I'm hiking in Canada but even there I always have some sort of protection ... just in case. I have a friend whose brother was murdered in Colorado a while back; shot in the chest woods while hunting elk. They never found his killer.
I haven't gone hunting for a long time but when I did we always stuck in pairs. I understand why those forest rangers are armed with .357 revolvers and also travel in pairs.
Urban is the worst. About a month ago Scooby was driving home from coffee run 5:15am -ish. Little punk jumps out from behind guard rail at a stop sign and tries to stop Scooby's car. Oh really. So Scooby drives around quickly and since I got away Mr. Travon decides to send 5 my way. 3 hit. Scooby circles around the block to slice the fucker in half with front bumper.
No where to be found.

I had one bounce off my door once. I didn't know what the fuck happened and for a bit and thought that there had been an explosion or something, until I saw the nice little furrough in the door, probably a foot to the left from where my leg had been. IMO, the cab of the truck with the windows up kept all of the sound inside, and it wouldn't have been so bad if the windows had been down. The next morning, I realized that, given the downward angle, nobody was trying to shoot me, I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was probably some dumbshit gangbanger a mile away shooting his gat off in the air in the middle of town.

In all my years of carrying, I've only been disarmed once and it happened to be one of the two times I really needed it.... being approached at a drive-up ATM by a crazy mofo late at night. The only other time I needed it was interrupting a violent assault while police were on their way. That day, my gun ensured that everyone went home alive. I don't understand why so many idiotic anti-gun yuppies don't get that bad shit happens and that guns can ensure people walk away from incidents LIVING when they'd otherwise be dead from being violently assaulted.

I am not sure I buy into obfuscation and lies by The State and its propaganda arm (MSM), rather than simply under-reporting of the incidents. I think even the FBI recognizes this discrepency, in their reporting of defensive gun use.

Then again, we've been one+ generation without exposure to firearms, so it's been all abstract and newspaper headlines, not someone taking someone to the range and explaining proper handling and respect for firearms.

The only guns I've encountered are deer hunters, pointing their rifles at me, momentarily...musta been mistaken identity. I advised them of the 20 peope coming down the trail behind me, thanked them for their own personal gun control, and contiued on my way.

While carrying your sidearm, you may consider wearing the lapel Pin of the US flag upside down, to convey your sense of trouble/crisis that your country is experiencing, and why it makes sense to be careful by carrying a firearm.
To those Americans who customarily carry a handgun (open or concealed), I would recommend that they also carry some First Aid items in their urban day-pack. Just in case they or someone near them suddenly needs it, because of tragic and senseless events like this. Not that I have to tell you this, Jack, but for those people who travel long distances by car, it makes total sense to have a 3-day BOB in the trunk. Youtube has plenty of examples of this.
By the same token, this is no worse than what millions of people around the world are experiencing on a daily or regular basis -- if we are to think clearly and keep things in perspective.
