274 Days, 294 Mass Shootings - Welcome To America
Last week's community college disaster in Oregon brought the number of mass shootings (4 or more people killed or injured) in America this year to 294. Whether due to easy access to arms, due to overmedication, or whatever other reason, this is a stunning data point, and amounts to more than 1 per day.
It is hardly surprising that even that "paragon of human rights", China, recently came out and mocked Obama for this unprecedented mass shooting death spree.

Poly not to pile on but. Every 75 to 100 years this very same thing happens. Because certain aspects of the tribe gain power and then don't let anybody play in their reindeer games. Then country they infect comes apart and at some point the simple minded people figure out the common denominator and go after those responsible its already happening all around the world. And remember this the tribe will kill its own members so don't ever think your in the club.

How many people have cops killed this year?
And zero happened at my house. The wife has threatened a few times, but so far nata.
As in the past what normally comes after a so-called "mass shooting" like the one recently in Oregon is that the anti-gun crowd comes out of the woodwork demanding a ban on "assault rifles". Granted, according to the FBI's last published figures for murders in the USA (for 2011), guns accounted for about 68% of all reported killings. What is NOT reported is that rifles accounted for ONLY 323 of the 12,664 murders reported. This indicates clearly that there is another unspoken agenda within the anti-gun crowd when it comes to banning "assault rifles". Just maybe that agenda may revolve around the fact that the only way for people to defend themselves against a tyrannical, armed, government is by owning, and being able to use, weapons to protect themselves that are comparable to what they are faced with . . . and when it comes to .gov forces that surely will not be handguns.
Also, just to put things in a little perspective here, for the last year I could find data on (2008) there were a reported 13,846 deaths related to drunk driving (BAC over .08%), whiich is about 60% more deaths caused by DUI than caused by all firearms in the USA in 2011.
Of that 12,664 people, how many were indeed MURDERS? How many were accidents? How many were lawful killings by police in line of duty, or citizens defending themselves.
What percentage of 300 million is 12,664?
How many did bad doctors kill? Auto accidents? Drug over doses?
I'm not beating you up, I agree with you. But to support our position most strongly, we need to look very closely at the numbers our own gubbamint 'fesses up to.
Of that 12,664 people, how many were indeed MURDERS?
According to the page that I got the data from at the FBI all of the 12K+ were classified as murders. Here's the link to the data:

Also, it is interesting to note on the issue of rifles as related to the total number of murders that there were 2,595 MORE murders committed using things like knives, clubs and fists than murders by rifle - or "assault weapons".
Suicides make up a substantial portion of death by gun.

It shows that there were 12,253 murders in the US in 2013. Of those 8,454 were murdered with a gun. 23% of all murders in the US were committed in Texas, and in California, both ground zero in the open borders policy.

Strange thing, though. The UK version only features press releases on how much crime has declined in the UK.
If you go into the data on weapons you learn this:
"Of the 26,340 recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument, 13,139 (50%) were robbery and 11,372 (43%) were actual or grievous bodily harm offences."
I was unable to determine how many of the 11,372 who suffered "grievous bodily harm" died.
For reference, the population of the US is 322 million, with an estimated 60 million undocumented immigrants for a total in the vicinity of 380 million.
And for simple completion the population of the UK was 64.1 million.
I would submit that the moralistic tones used every time there is a shooting in the US are neither warranted nor productive.
P.S... Having followed these statistics in the past I find it interesting that the FBI, who used to report 'homicides' (including police killings) rather than 'murders' (presumably excluding police killings) has changed their reporting.
P.P.S. Definitions in countries as to what is a 'violent assualt' 'murder', etc vary. So it is not possible to make true 1-to-1 comparisons.
The fact that the writer cites the latest false flag/drill in Oregon as fact derails the argument from the get-go.

I bet 90% of them took place in places like Chicago, Detroit. Mostly gang related but those are the shootings Obama and the left never talk about. Places where we have the strictesd gun laws. Note that most victims in these shootings aren't killed. I'd bet the facts are the same for the "mass shooting" claims of this sensationalist column, too, since most of the violence is probably inner city, gang on gang, (war on) drug related crimes and NOT the media sensation mass shooting hysteria they want to capitalize upon.
2013 CDC stats support that. You are twice as likely to kill yourself in a suicide than to be killed by someone else using a firearm, three times as likely to die in an accidental fall, and four times as likely to die from accidental poisoning.
Lots of gun deaths, yes, but most in suicides which could certainly be carried out via other means, while the vast majority of gun assaults are minority on minority using ILLEGALLY obtained and possessed firearms, the vast majority using pistols and NOT "assault rifles."
That's why I can't stand articles like this. They have an agenda that won't allow a full presentation of the facts.

I would have to be with other commenters. There have been some odd articles on ZH this year. This is one of those articles which if you lived in a perfect world might make sense. Unfortunatly that is hardly the case and it has no relationship to reality and reality is what ZH is normally best at when it comes to defining parameters. So what is going on? Also concerning the Chinese they have at least once before if not two times in my memory chided the U.S. on gun control. Why do they put their two cents in? Why do they care? I saw an article years ago about a Chinese General talking about expansion either to Australia or U.S.. Possible deterent?

We've had guns in this country since it's inception, and until until 1934 could own full auto, and still easy to get up to 1968, so the guns haven't changed.

While we think cops are bad today, I'm not sure things have changed all that much from the past. The old West had lynch mobs, the South had the KKK, and tough New York and Chicago cops have been profiled in many movies. Cops used to walk their beats, knew who the troublemakers were, and cracked heads (at least the non corrupt ones). Street crimes and murders (especially of cops) were also not tolerated in sections of towns controlled by the mob.
All these 'enforcers' together, along with mental insane asylums, and judges that actually kept the bad guys off the street, meant that potential criminals had to think twice before actually committing a crime. Today, we have neither the preventative actions nor any real discouragement of criminals.
America doesn't have a gun problem, it has a nigger problem. Switzerland and Finland have lots of guns but no niggers, so no mass shootings. The jews media was careful not to mention that the Umpqua shooter had a black mother. Too bad his parents weren't both black -- then all his shots would have missed!
