Caught On Tape: Russian Warships Launch 26 Cruise Missiles At ISIS Targets

Tyler Durden's picture

On Monday evening, we detailed the Russian hardware being used in Moscow’s campaign to rout anti-regime forces and restore the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

As we noted in our preface to that feature, “watching Russia effectively humiliate the West by bragging day in and day out is nothing if it’s not amusing, and indeed the leaked diplomatic cable from 2006 which outlines Washington’s intent to effectively start a civil war in Syria leaves one completely uninclined to be at all sympathetic to the ridiculous situation the US and its allies have found themselves in.”

That, along with the fact that Western nations like France are not only unwiling to admit that the West's participation in Syria has been an outright disaster, but are now set to "correct" a refugee crisis by bombing the very place from which the refugees are fleeing leaves us inclined to highlight the following video (out today from the Russian Defense Ministry) that shows what happens when a military superpower decides that because an existing aerial campaign has become akin to shooting fish in a barrel, it might be time to do some sea-based target practice on a few Nike-wearing, black flag-waving jihadists…

From RT:

Russia’s Defense Ministry has published a video of its warships firing cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea to hit the positions of Islamic State militants in Syria.

“[Last] night the ship strike group of the Russian Navy, consisting of the Dagestan missile ship, the small-sized missile ships Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich and Veliky Ustyug launched cruise missiles against ISIS infrastructural facilities in Syria from the assigned district of the Caspian Sea,” the ministry said in a comment under the video.

According to the ministry, the Russian military attack was conducted “by high-precision ship missile systems Kalibr NK, the cruise missiles of which engaged all the assigned targets successfully and with high accuracy.”

On September 30, Russia launched its military operation against Islamic State at the request of the Syrian government. Since the start of the operation the Russian military have destroyed at least 112 objects, including commanding pints, ammunition depots and armored vehicles belonging to jihadists.

And so here we sit on the edge of a knife, a lunatic in control of the decision of which way to fall. The knife is starting to move and there is no way to maintain the previous balance.

It is clear that the US government does not represent the people and is a separate and foreign entity. We do not know the US governmet. It is not what it purports to be. It is evil and incomprehensibly alien.

I think that throughout history the people have generally asked the wrong question. The question that should have always been asked, but does seem to to have been is: "What makes the government alien and evil?" Knowing what makes it alien and evil then allows for rational decisions.

We are led to believe that the US government and all past Tyrannies are the one-off acts of revered (if they win) madmen: Mao, Stalin, Lincoln, Genghis Khan, Pol Pot, Tojo, Hitler and on. They actually seem to delight in the torture and murder of human beings ... beings that they think themselves separate from and whom they wish to "master". It is in their writings. Why and how do they think themselves separate and apart from the human race?

Maybe Reagan was actually trying to tell us something with his speech about how we might all come together to fight an alien threat.

...but maybe they have always been here and maybe they are still here and maybe they are not really alien ... just different.

They're getting some good practice thar. Ground troops will be ready to roll soon and stamp out the last of those tearrists. It's no wonder Erdogan is super-pissed; he wanted a piece of the Sovereign Nation of Syria for himself.

Not only have Bush and Barry lost the war but they have handed over the entire region to Russia and Iran with China joining them shortly. China waited until they saw a clear winner and now they have made their choice.

The inepitude of our military leadership is "exceptional!"

What camel camp justifies the use of these missiles?  I always thought you use them on strategic or threatening big-ticket targets.  Is it just for show?  Nobody doubted they worked.  And the night launch footage is pretty Gulf War if you ask me.  I think the Russians are getting way too much credit that their own strikes are doing much of anything, whomever they're trying to attack.

There are reports that prior to going into Afghanistan and Iraq the second time, the US government (probably the CIA) spent 5 years lobbing cruise missiles into their towns. They would blow up a building and then when people would come out to help the wounded and search for survivors, they would hit the same spot with a second cruise missile.

I think that if you want to radicalize a population then that is a good way to start.

Oh it gets worse than that.

The US .gov is already trying to back away from the absurd and inane "moderate opposition" label. The line between the liver-eaters and the "moderate" (LMAO!) opposition does not exist, and the US knows it. The MSM is already playing semantics and re-defining them as the "Arab-Syrian opposition."

The old, consummate pro, Sergei Lavrov, came out and point-blank asked "who the mother-fuck are these so-called 'moderate' rebels?" If Russia wants to talk to them, who do we call? The US State Department? The Pentagon? The CIA?

-----------------------------

The Russian solution is very straightforward and elegant: Russia will just drop "moderate" bombs on the "moderate" terrorists, and common bombs on the other terrorists.

What is the difference between "moderate bombs" and "common bombs", you ask?

That is easy. The same difference between "moderate" terrorists and just plain "terrorists."

DUH!

PURE PROPAGANDA B.S.!!!

Isn't it like 1000+ miles from the Caspian Sea to ISIS controlled areas of Syria?  Why on earth would Russia waste expensive long range cruise missles on an ISIS target?

Also, why would a Russian navy ship (Corvette/Frigate class) in the Caspain Sea of all places even have the need to have long range cruise missle?  Maybe from

the Med but not the Caspian Sea.

"Maybe from the Med but not the Caspian Sea."

Because the Caspian Sea is landlocked and the West cannot interfere as easily. Besides, 1000m makes for a good test.

I read the article that is referred to below a while ago, the guts of it stuck in my mind but it took a while to locate the article again.

This is why, to quote kianator

"...a Russian navy ship (Corvette/Frigate class) in the Caspain Sea of all places even have the need to have long range cruise missle?"

>>The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty signed by Moscow and Washington in the far 1987, still prohibits Russia from deploying land-based missiles with a range greater than 500 km. But this prohibition does not apply to surface ship based missiles. This means that nine Buyans armed with a new super weapon, will be able to destroy up to 72 targets at a range of over 1,500 km in one launch.<<

Source

http://en.voicesevas.ru/news/analytics/2999-missile-surprise-from-putin....

So them wily Russkies could, if they want, deploy intermediate range nuke missiles without violating the INF teaty, and locate them somewhere with no enemy vessels present and geographically removed from the threat of surprise air attacks.

Note the article (written 2014) writes only about missiles with 300 km range, stressing that

"Until now it was believed that the performance characteristics of Caliber do not allow a use of these missiles against any ship or a ground target beyond the 300 km range."

We have now seen their missiles have at least 1500 km range.  Read the full article if interested, the quoted parts are near the end.

No loser. The Russian's will not cooperate with you because they know the US will warn their ISIS minions of their attack plans and lose the element of surprise.

Shoddy Arabia is having a Jihad hissy fit because Putin is propping up Assad and all the anti-Sunni elements in the region. Putin's just using the ISIS threat to make geopolitical moves against the US and its Middle East lackeys and proxies. Smart move, too. Savvy.

Of course, in the process, I hope ISIS (Islamic Swine/Inhuman Scumbags) will get all their brains splattered. If Putin fails to do that he will pay a diplomatic/political price, so I think he'll stay on-target.

Russian diplomats are strutting their stuff and proclaiming how the US has been 'bombing' ISIS for a year and the group has just got stronger, and how Russia is showing everyone how it's really done. Potent message, actually.

But don't forget Putin's real goal - geopolitical pushback against the US, starting in a crucial region, to be followed by really meaningful advancement of Russian gloabl leadership, Russian geopolitical influence, and all at the significant expense of the US global position.

This is how you conduct a New Colr War!

One Russian claims that these are recent statements he captured from Russian news and TV...I don't know, if it is true, but I find it amazing. But it would make sense. Iraq is going to ask Russia for help as well...and then all bets are off.

Putin#1: Russia will not make a decision between "useful" and "at the moment not so useful" terrorist - we will hunt all of them.

Putin#2: No border will or ... can ... stop us by establishing peace and freedom in the whole Middle East with our partners.

Putin#3: I've invited all NATO military officials to Russia to discuss our operations in the Middle East to avoid accidents.

Putin#4: No - I don't have to talk to the US president, I want to talk with somebody useful like US General Campbell.

Putin#5: How is the moral by the US soldiers? Are they ok?

Putin#6: We will not allow "foreign powers" to steal the oil of the Middle East in the future anymore.

Putin#7: Give our soldiers new knives - they have to shave a lot of beards.

Putin#8: Every refugee from Syria can ask directly a russian soldier for help. After a background check you can come to Russia legally in law for free and in a secured way with your whole family.

Putin#9: We will take care of an unlimited (!) amount of refugees from Ukraine and Syria to help Europe in that crisis. A crisis created by the horrible foreign politics of the US and the rise of the IS.

Putin#10: The Russian Federation was and never will be the enemy of an average American.

This really has to be pissing off the CIA.  They must be planning the mother of all false flags to pin on Russia.

Whatever they are planning, it will have to do with Transnistria, imho.

Bingo, to me this whole setup reeks of a trap. Some other possible motives:

1. The US gets to assess current Russian military capabilities

2. Perhaps a small tactical dirty nuke goes off in Russia and ISIS is blamed because Russia "antagonized" them

If 911 bought enough political capital internally and externally for the US to do whatever the fuck they wanted for a decade, imagine what a dirty nuke going off in Russia can do in Russia.

Russians are no talking heads. Different culture. They do more than they talk. They will descend on ME and brutally clean up all the mullah states.

US can do jackshit about it as they seem to have already blinked in the nuke standoff. Russia dared them and they backed off - in Georgia, Ukraine and now in Syria.

So if any, it is not in the interest of US. On second thoughts, when was the last time a single foreign policy has been in the interests of the US? So i wont be surprised if they shoot themselves again.

911 brought America a great deal of sympathy worldwide.  It was a time, everyone felt the pain experienced by an  American.

Today, the same can't be said anymore.  More people are beginning to question MSM and their biased reporting.

And the current effectiveness of the Russki air campaign against ISIS makes the ordinary person in the street wonder WHY the US didn't do what the Russkis have accomplished, considering America is exceptional and possesses the best weaponry on the planet.

It isn't WHY the US couldn't do, the question is WHY THE US wouldn't defend unarmed innocents being viciously slaughtered by ISIS.

What is even worse is to find out the same terrorists are being financed and armed by the US.

How does the average person feel when someone they consider their best and most trustworthy friend has been stabbing them in the back ?

US foreign policy has damaged US interests for a very long time to come.  Most of America's allies would be reluctant to place their total reliance in the US.

CWolfRu-"Do you really think that Kremlin trolls are really sitting there like some ducks? You really a fool, lady"

well answer me this. Why is that when anything that has to do with Ukraine, Crimea, or Syria that has toe do with Russia there are a lot more comments by certain people here who tout Russia and blame the USA or Israel?

Everything is a false flag this and that as though Russia and Putin, a former KGB thug, would never do such a thing. Plus how many here claim that Langley is paying trolls here to spew ameikan propaganda hmmm?

This is supposed to be a Financial news site with some geopolitics mixed in that have relevancy regarding certain financial outcomes or events, not some avenue for govt trolls to engage in propaganda right? But it happens

Plus it's been in various news outlets that Russia does engage in this sort of this as well as the US. But I can see with my own two eyes the uptick in comments regarding all things Russia and war on ZH surpass all other relevant economic news.

Turn on your brain, pal. My home is a hot topic now when over 90% of information in world media just a horseshit.

>Everything is a false flag this and that as though Russia and Putin, a former KGB thug, would never do such a thing.

You really have education blackholes, don't you?

For the record: KGB was like CIA, but worked in national interests for glory of Red Empire a.k.a USSR.

=

>Plus how many here claim that Langley is paying trolls here to spew ameikan propaganda hmmm?

And why you asking me? The hell I know how much people doing it?

Again, turn on your head and just ask current community about Hasbara Langley and other troll-mercenaries.

=

>This is supposed to be a Financial news site with some geopolitics mixed in that have relevancy regarding certain financial outcomes or events, not some avenue for govt trolls to engage in propaganda right? But it happens

Did you know that site policy may be changed because of some IRL threads which are more important than obvious world economics degradation ? No?

=

>Plus it's been in various news outlets that Russia does engage in this sort of this as well as the US.

You mean trolling? Or what? So called "hybrid wars" or something else?

=

>But I can see with my own two eyes the uptick in comments regarding all things Russia and war on ZH surpass all other relevant economic news.

I liked this comment ...

Russia, fearful of ISIS having air defences chose not to use air strikes and use cruise missles instead tells us?

The West air strikes were not on these targets then, because the same reasoning would have been used by the west and hey "where are our cruise missiles then" or have we started to rehypothecate them to.

Guys,

From the overwhelmingly positive reactions to the damage on ISIS caused by the Russkis, it makes the Administration look ineffective.  Not only that, the Iraq govt is beginning to voice their suspicions regarding the US's motives in the "war" against ISIS.

I wouldn't put it past this Administration to engineer an "incident" involving the Russki bombardment and allow it to supply more sophisticated anti-aircraft equipment to take out the Russki planes.

We may see Murican "advisers" perhaps embedded with ISIS coming home in body bags.  Gives the US an excuse to supply ISIS with manpads etc.
