"It's Over For Me" Matt Drudge Warns Public "You're A Pawn In The 'Ghetto-isation'" Of The Web

Tyler Durden's picture

The very foundation of the free Internet is under severe threat from copyright laws that could ban independent media outlets, according to Matt Drudge. "I had a Supreme Court Justice tell me it’s over for me,” said Drudge, warning web users that they were being pushed "pawn-like" into the cyber "ghettos" of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

"Reclusive" Drudge says he has not had a photo taken in 8 years

As DCClothesline.com reports,

During an appearance on the Alex Jones Show, Drudge asserted that copyright laws which prevent websites from even linking to news stories were being advanced.

“I had a Supreme Court Justice tell me it’s over for me,” said Drudge. “They’ve got the votes now to enforce copyright law, you’re out of there. They’re going to make it so you can’t even use headlines.”

“To have a Supreme Court Justice say to me it’s over, they’ve got the votes, which means time is limited,” he added, noting that a day was coming when simply operating an independent website could be outlawed.

“That will end (it) for me – fine – I’ve had a hell of a run,” said Drudge, adding that web users were being pushed into the cyber “ghettos” of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“This is ghetto, this is corporate, they’re taking your energy and you’re getting nothing in return – nothing!”

Watch the full interview below...

Drudge warned that social media giants like Twitter and Facebook were swallowing up content and strangling the organic growth of independent Internet news platforms. Automated news aggregators like Google News also came under fire.

“Google News – hello anybody? The idiots reading that crap think there is actually a human there – there is no human there – you are being programmed to being automated even up to your news….a same corporate glaze over everything,” said Drudge.

“Stop operating in their playground, stop it,” said Drudge, asserting that people were being confined by what the likes of Facebook and Twitter defined as the Internet as a result of this “corporate makeover” of the web.

“I’m just warning this country that yes, don’t get into this false sense that you are an individual when you’re on Facebook, no you’re not, you’re a pawn in their scheme,” concluded Drudge.

C'mon Matt...lighten up.

Where else but You Tube can you find Kai (Smash, smash, SMASH) the hachet man and Antoine 'They raping everyone allup in here'.

It's like watching a horror movie knowing you're not in danger. It's fascinating because I don't know people like that in my world. Scary.

Well, there was Jimmy Ray who got drunk and hit his young wife which was a bad thing to do because her two brothers came over and beat him half to death and tied him to a tree in the woods for three days. Jimmy Ray was like a new man when he came home.

Except for his looks.

No You Tube for Jimmy Ray.

Drudge fears that freedom is doomed ... and I believe he's correct that the powers that be are going to try to exercise complete dominion over it.  I simply don't believe they're smart enough to defeat millions of determined subverters.  Nor do I believe there are enough "willing resources" available to them to enforce their delusions of omnipotence at the point of a gun.  That said, I won't be surprised to see them try.

He's right.  Google is the gateway to the web, and you are profiled and then filter bubbled by the account they make for you on their servers.  You don't have to sign up for a Google account, they profile you and assign you a stealth account which you can't touch.  This isolates people and creates these ghettos where we can all be set against each other.

The first thing a psychopath does to their victims is to isolate them, and then tell them lies.  As long as your victims don't talk to each other, the lies stick.  This is why the internet was such a threat to the Aristocrats- we could all compare notes.  And this is why so much CIA and NSA money has gone into shills, algorithms, and disinformation on the net.

Remember when you just made a webpage if you had something to say?  Now no one will hear you because you won't show up in searches.  You have to go on anti-social media and you will be forced to comply with the brain dead zombie horde's pre-programmed "issues" if you want to participate.  And of course these bullshit "issues" are whatever the thought controllers are pushing that day.

But in the end, their stupid plans still won't work.  Communication technology blooms when it is needed.  It happened before with the printing press and telegraph, and now its happening with global electronic communication.  They can only slow us down, they can't stop us from being free.

its a good post.

but, most of the sheeple dont want to be free.

They want to be children.

Freedom is dangerous messy scary and unpredictable.

For example self employment.

If people REALLY hated their jobs, the hours, the commute, the boss, and back biting coworkers MORE than they FEARED, Truly FEAR FREEDOM we would have a tide of entrepreneurs that would amaze the world.

The Drudge Report is aggregated news on a virtual bulletin board.

Matt Drudge is a wierdo, and he's putting together an amalgamation of wierdo -ness.

It's pretty pathetic that TPTB think Drudge has some sort of impact politically. LMFAO

Actually, the Corporatists are a pawn in my scheme, Mr. Drudge. I programmed them en masse back in 08. They have opted to attempt asserting their overarching authoritarian plans because they are collectively in fear for their very existence given the imploding global economics, fundamentals of economics, and outright incompetence of the Central Banking/Planning model they have been collectively hiding behind for the entirety of their lives. The days of their New World Order are numbered before they have even begun IMHO. Corporatists are scraping the bottom-of-the-barrel for profits that will not be forthcoming in their bankrupt collective futures. The masses have been Classically Conditioned to thwart Corporatists from taking over their social networks, and personal lives. Wait until the backlash kicks into gear as free speech rights are usurped via legislation.

They will have to pry our keyboards from our cold dead hands, God damn it.

I still believe that personal computers with easy-to-use graphic interfaces for the non-specialist, were a very unfortunate invention that practically invites multiple modes of social dysfunction. I also believe the internet is a luxury which will not survive the next cycle of general mobilization. During WWII it was nearly impossible for ordinary people to buy standard foodstuffs or spare parts for their car, and yet we think we're going to have a working freaking internet (WFI) the next time the world goes to war?

If the corporate-government oligarchy wishes to control the internet, I think this project will fare about as well their attempt to control the global financial system has. They will end up locked in a solipsistic world, controlling nothing but their own illusions.

Alex seriously needs to cut back on the Advertising. For that matter, after listening to him for what seems like a dozen years, dude runs out of things to say. AJ can get on an amazing roll, than goes off the deep end, fearing his show is getting boring or something. I hope he is only covering his ass when it comes to Israel, but if not, he's the #1 zionist gatekeeper. That being said, Alex needs to concentrate on interviewing top minds, the way Jeff Rense handles his top notch broadcsast. I don't think David Duke will ever be on again, but it was the best thing for the naiive half of his audience.

AJ is first and foremost an entertainer. He puts on a show. The more sponsors he plays, the more money he pockets.  Judging by the array of product endorsements, merchandise, polished video productions and nice studio, I suspect he's doing well.

I too find it hard to listen for long. Growling histrionics and frequent, frequent interruptions for commercials leave little room for the old substance and depth.

That said, he has played an important role for many among the wakeful audience. Hopefully, he will continue to do so for many more years to come.

How many times does Drudge pat himself on the back during that thing? At least as many times as Jones bends over and drops trow for him. The star-struck routine appeared genuine, which makes it all the more pathetic. If I've gotta be star-struck, I'd much rather be star-struck by Kardashian's butt than that hat act.

Drudge runs a news feed aggregation. That's it.

He's a great editor, as far as finding the stories out there that support his preferred spin. So he lucked out and found himself a nice niche a few steps up from the calling to which he is most suited, as a use car salesman. Good for him. So the whole world should do what he did. Bunk.

By the way, with the guy's bloviations about "corporate media," how many of his news links lead to exactly that? Let's see, that would be all of them. If you want to see people doing what Drudge fantasizes himself to be doing, in providing an alternative media, that would be the Durdens.

As far as the alleged "we will bury you" statement by a Supreme Court justice, even if it's true, those over-the-hill jackasses aren't exactly on the cutting edge of the Information Revolution. Outlawing links on copyright grounds? Haha. The donkey has been into the Reynolds Wrap again, cause there's shiney stuff in those droppings on Jone's set. And really, what better place?

I guarantee you, the "corporate media" drops to its knees and prays to the Unholy Gog every night that Drudge will link them because of what the extra traffic can do for their ad revenues. The faux fight serves the purposes of both sides, by keeping the plebs convinced that the pothmpkin village is real.

Very good. That is my perception as well. I am not a regular visitor, as his website strikes me as a kludge, but I talk at length with people who visit Drudge's site often. To this day, they seem no more enlightened in some respects than your average viewer of Faux News. IMO, Drudge has benefited from the growing public hunger for something better than stifling establishment fluff by picking, choosing and repackaging it. That said, the enemy of my enemy is my friend: one thing that he and AJ and anyone else in the (to varying degrees) independent media share in common is the desire to resist socio-fascist and pathological efforts to silence the independent voice - especially the whistleblower. Pursuit of truth is the weak link for every authoritarian regime. You don't even need to tell the truth; all you have to do is think and ask questions, and big lies are jeopardized. It's inevitable that control freaks would attempt to manipulate people online the way they do through every other means.

I'm inclined to agree with those who say the internet cannot be stopped. I don't think that's the goal, either. Like most mass manipulation, the objective is to reign in a critical mass of people such that truly independent, objective discourse remains marginalized. Social media is like bales of hay for livestock, to keep them chewing and occupied. I think it would be shortsighted for the elites to attempt to constrain the internet at this point, because it's pretty much the only frontier left for new ideas, and how else can they identify threats to their oligarchy than by using the crystal balls that they themselves have created? The internet is many things, and one of those is a tool for threat discovery and assessment. It is a double-edged sword, where each side sharpens the other. There may be interruptions, and the nature and infrastructure of the internet may evolve, but there will always be some kind of internet that leaves room for critical thought and discussion.

The Russian communications oversight authority has put Facebook, Twitter and Google on notice. In May the agency, known by its acronym Roskomnadzor, sent a letter to the companies reminding them that they need to comply with the country’s Internet laws.

Roskomnadzor has vast powers: It can summarily order Internet service providers to shut off access to websites, as it has done with several independent news and analysis sites; it can levy fines; and it can ask the prosecutor’s office to launch criminal charges where it perceives a violation. In the case of foreign companies, it can team up with other agencies to drive them out of Russia. This is how contemporary Russian censorship works: by waving the stick of financial consequences.

Back in the Soviet Union, censorship had a straightforward structure: a centralized agency called Glavlit (Literature Directorate) had censors posted to newspapers and publishing houses. These people pre-cleared everything that was slated for publication. All periodicals and publishing houses belonged to the state then, so ultimately the editors and the censors worked for the same boss. The system worked smoothly. But now many media companies are privately owned. Enter market-based censorship.

You need to look closely at how censorship operates in the UK.

Whilst the printed MSM is largely able to print what it likes but is subject to strict libel laws etc, TV/Radio channels are subject to operating licences which can be withdrawn if they don't toe the line. Over the years - starting with the BBC in the days of the British Empire - this has lead to these outlets employing their own self-censors (compliant news editors/journalists/presenters), so .gov regulators rarely need to intervene. Sky News followed this structure and is little more today than a .gov mouthpiece spewing out state propaganda and western views of Ukraine/Syria etc. Only when a TV/Radio channel ventures outside of the unwritten rules does Ofcom intervene. It has done so with RT.com in the UK which it has accused of slanting news stories etc but in truth they only show what BBC/Sky don't want to show.

Censorship in the UK and US is alive and well, but it's carried out by self-censorship, not by .gov apparatchiks like in the old USSR.

The effect is exactly the same: state propaganda by the truck load.

Thanks, Magoo, this is actually the point. I don't really care about Drudge itself since I don't think I've ever had occasion to visit there, so I have no opinion pro or con that blog. BUT it is popular, especially in the US, so it's found a big audience and that right there means they're publishing meaningful work for people. To me, that means it should not be censored -- and yet, censorship is what this legislation seems to be all about.

Here's an article outlining some possible ramifications:

<<As part of the agreement, Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam have agreed to take on the various intellectual property and internet laws of the US. “The TPP is likely to export some of the worst features of US copyright law to Pacific Rim countries: a broad ban on breaking digital locks on devices and creative works (even for legal purposes), a minimum copyright term of the lifetime of the creator plus seventy years (the current international norm is the lifetime plus fifty years), privatization of enforcement for copyright infringement, ruinous statutory damages with no proof of actual harm, and government seizures of computers and equipment involved in alleged infringement,” wrote Katitza Rodriguez and Maira Sutton of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Activists also worry that the TPP deal will eventually see Internet Service Providers receiving the power to police internet activity, take down online content and cut people off from internet access for common user-generated content. Congress has 90 days to review the agreement before it can be signed. The full details of the TPP will not be fully published for years.>>

http://www.techspot.com/news/62333-activists-call-trans-pacific-partners...

See what I just did? Excerpted part of the article, for a sample of the rest and for relevant discussion on this topic. Will I still be able to do this, after this law is passed? Can I still cite sources to support things I say? What about the sovereignty rights of populations who think US copyright law is generally futile, outdated, and oppressive, who are not Americans and should not be in any way subject to their laws, or who have no wish to be subsumed into their culture b/c we like our own? Who would like a little say in how our own literature and news, and perspectives, are managed?

If ISPs receive this 'power to police', does that also mean they will come under pressure to abuse it, from people behind the scenes with an agenda? It would be naive to think it won't. The 'power' to police quickly becomes a responsibility to police. 'Ruinous statutory damages with no proof of harm' should be a hair-raising enough possibility, all by itself.

Censorship is a disgusting characteristic of a police state, and always serves an agenda -- usually an unhealthy one. Hope I don't have to explain why.

This is NOT about Drudge's survival. It's about anyone's survival. It is about the increasing attempts of supranational government at censorship. We should not be distracted by Drudge pro/con, Alex Jones pro/con. If Drudge or Jones -- or even 'garbage' sites all about gossip or celebritards or fad diets, whatever, come under the gun, then why would anyone think your favourite serious news or financial reporting will not? More likely, such 'serious' sites -- loved by the same readers who despise Drudge & Jones -- will be the FIRST to go. The better the reporting, the more relevant or controversial or informative the topic, and the more threatening to those in power who have the most to hide, the bigger the threat of this legislation to anyone who values a free press. Especially for those who find a large audience, as Drudge and Jones apparently do.

I agree with the comments above who argue that it will eventually prove futile, but there will be casualties along the way, and that's what concerns me. I like finding and sifting information for myself. I neither need nor want corporatists to do it for me. And I don't want to have to wait for the inevitable years of setback before we claw our way back to even the limited creative freedom we have today. Does anyone notice that the worst elements of SOPA -- which was justly defeated -- seem to be incorporated in these provisions? Seems that when something evil goes down, we're sure to see it come back in something even more secret and complicated and monstrous than when it was originally presented. All they have to do is increase the complexity, secrecy, and audacity of the power grab.

It's getting to the point that privacy is becoming a privilege of government, banks, and the elite, while the '99%' peasantry lives increasingly under a microscope, scrutinised by that same veiled elite. Censorship legislation is a major weapon in this war. Governments around the world are showing their need to escape scrutiny, attempting to tie us to an approved MSM mockingbird single-source 'news' outlet. (Hi, there, CIA.)

Why anyone wastes time arguing about this site or that, when censorship is the issue, is beyond me. Such supranational agreements attempt to place themselves beyond the reach of even national 'democracies'. Even the pretence is being dispensed with, now. Government and corporations, which of all entities should and must be transparent, are increasingly attempting to hijack the right of privacy exclusively to themselves.

Anyone who thinks they believe in civil rights, and/or in 'democracy', should be most alarmed by this supranational power grab. (Keep voting, sheeple...)

Drudge uses corporate media headline sources but his genius (why he is so successful) is the very clever ways he juxtaposes the MSM headlines (feg., NYT & WAPO) with headlines from an alternative source (eg., ZH) that totally contradicts the elites and MSM showing them to be hypocrites and liars.

You should visit Drudge Report sometime, the most visited site on the web I think. Something ridiculous like > 1 billion each month. Looks like an average assorted collection of articles with some hard news and fluff mix.

But so many people visit the Drudge Report it drives the rest of the news agenda for the MSM for the week and upsets their propaganda narratives. That's why Drudge Report is important and why it is being targeted. Ditto Zerohedge. MSM can't lie and get away with it as long as there is a Drudge and a Zerohedge front running them.

It must be a great conundrum for the global power elites that virtually all of the great advances in arts and sciences that have made being a living human such a tremendous treat and adventure have been birthed of freedom and not tyranny.

I find it difficult to understand why the powers that be would be interested in constraining the Internet and free speech in general.  On one hand free expression is of absolutely no threat to the elites.  Basically there are two things that motivate humans to uprising and those are intense greed and dire deprivation.  Rabble rousing has little substantive effect.  On the other hand, allowing the populace to express themselves with complete freedom and abandon can provide a treasure of information from people about themselves which the intelligence agencies slurp up.

The war on expression escapes my ability to deconstruct the logic behind it.

It was only a matter of time before TPTB  moved in on the Internet in e meaningful way.  Sites like Drudge and indeed ZH are seriously undermining the public brainwashing program.  The  Empire Strikes Back.

Isn’t this OUR country? I don’t remember voting on this, I think it will take Lots of "Internet Cops",  A whole new leg up in the Incarceration rate!  Just what we need, more great minds jailed, More Harvard Jack-Asses IN CHARGE!  We will need to circumvent, with our own free public web? Void of these scum.   Fuck these "Judges"! Excuse me "Crooks".  This top down dictatorship is for some other country,  NOT OURS! Its called "Free Speech" its meant to work in this exact situation and is what we were founded on.  Free Speech is our foundation, without it we are nothing as a Country.

If they have a problem maintaining power in a free speech society, THAT’S THEIR PROBLEM, NOT OURS.  IT MEANS THEY ARE INCOMPETENT AND OBVIOUSLY SCARED OF TRUTH!  HAVE NO DOUBT THEY ARE INFERIOR!  Thats why they cant rule in a world of truth, we will never get anywhere as a country with these types incharge.  This is good reason for civil war.

Here we are, exactly where UNCLE SHAM's BEST THINKING HAS BROUGHT US? Time to purge leadership, either peacefully or by force, they just dont get it.

Been my home page for 10 plus years now. Always thought there was no way it would be allowed to continue indefinately. Killing Drudge report is a sign, a sign we just passed at 100 mph on the highway to hell. Good luck usa.

Communications Theory. Practical experiments carried out in the 1970's.

The Bush Telegraph is far more powerful than the Internet. Increase that power with pamphleteering and posters (a truth that Internet advertisers are re-learning).

Word of mouth wise, in America, you are at most FIVE people away from the President (confirmed by those word of mouth experiments in the 1970's).

Talk to people. Feed truth into the Bush Telegraph.

It's why the Media in general lost most of its viewers and readers, in the mid-1990's - BEFORE the Internet took off.

You must consume all goods directly from the company store. Your government appointed counselor will assist you with approved government contractors. Any independent activity or attempts to do business or exist outside of the helping hands of government and approved partners will be severely punished.

Drudge is just giving the powers that be a heads up. What they're about to do,is force everyone to encrypt their web traffic. Nobody will know who is going anywhere. Prolly not such a bad idea anyway.

They will get rid of Drudge and maybe ZH (two great places for the NSA to troll for people's non-mainstream thoughts ... so maybe they are doing people a favor), but they will leave unrestricted PORN, I am sure.... because that would be restriction on freedom of speech.

Demons 3, Humans 0... but I am certain that will not be the final score.

I rarely can tolerate much comment on any site anymore, but this comment field has been better than most.

history: drudge got play from Lush Rimbaugh on blowjobs with clinton > no voice, no content,  just links shit, makes millions.

AJ some decent content say.. OKC / Waco.. 911.. makes millions with alt infoz.. some weird connections to bill cooper's death though...

drudge is now mainstream post clinton impeach, like all, falls to his own success, becomes national inquirer like.. occasionally fast news, most op/ed fake R's good, fake D's evil, aj grows audience, gets linked on drudge.. grows hard as a result, foul collusion results

culminates with drudge being interviewed on aj

Ive watched some of the very same trend as zh gets linked on drudge occasionally, decline in both comments, increase in click bait here.

all dragons eat their own tails in the end. delusion sets in, faux imagined emperor's new clothes, sycophant army

gatekeepers all. anyone imagined "free speech" of the web would last.. childishly naive. derp

monopoly is the end game. largely in place. not commies or libs, fascists or "conservatives". just monopoly.

eventual guillotines.

One wonders why the supreme counrt judges (and the rest of the government critters) would want their grandchildren and great grandchildren growing up and living in the environment that they are creating. Are they so naive as to believe that they will be part of Elysium?

All traitors are recognized as traitors, and not respected, especially by those whom they serve and kowtow to.

That big ball of fire in the sky would do us a great favor if it would send us a 'Carrington' type event.

These 'world government' liberal nazi's have become all invasive in government world wide.

Left unchecked they will destroy all freedom, the only survivors will be prepars and N. Korea.
