South Carolina's 'Female Student-Flipping' Cop Has "History Of Aggressive, Violent Behavior"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

If you still haven’t heard of the psychotic violence perpetrated on a high school girl by Senior Deputy Ben Fields, it’s time to get up to speed. If you want a gauge as to how far this society has fallen, this is all you need to see.

First, a little background from the AP:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A school resource officer in South Carolina is on leave and his boss has asked the Justice Department and the FBI to investigate after a video showed him flipping a female high school student from her desk to the floor and dragging her across a classroom.

The sheriff’s department said no one was hurt during the confrontation, which was captured on cellphones by several students and posted online. One student said it all started when the girl pulled out her cellphone and refused her math teacher’s request to hand it over during class.

During the moments captured on video, Fields can be seen standing over the girl, asking her to stand up. The girl remains seated and the officer wraps a forearm around her neck. The desk then flips and the girl is slammed backward onto the floor, where the officer tosses her toward the front of the classroom and handcuffs her.

A second student who verbally objected to the girl’s treatment also was arrested.

Go ahead and read that again.

Both girls were charged with disturbing schools and released to their parents. Their names were not released, but the second student, Niya Kenny, told WLTX-TV that Deputy Fields’ use of force shocked her. Her mother, Doris Kenny, said she’s proud her daughter was “brave enough to speak out against what was going on.”

Lt. Curtis Wilson confirmed that Fields is white and the students are black, but told The Associated Press in an email to “keep in mind this is not a race issue.”

Tony Robinson Jr., who recorded the final moments of the confrontation, told WLTX that it began when the teacher tried to confiscate a phone the girl took out during class. She refused, so he called an administrator, he said.

Welcome to America’s school system. A teacher can’t even handle a slightly disruptive student on his own without calling cop into the classroom. Never once in my entire life did I see a cop called into a classroom, despite seeing chaos that makes “not handing over a cellphone” look like the equivalent of putting a shiny apple on the teacher’s desk. Absolutely revolting.

Now watch the video. It’s will make your blood boil:

To make matters worse, this cop has a history of aggressive, violent behavior. As the AP noted:

Fields has been accused of excessive force and racial bias before, but has prevailed in court so far.

Trial is set for January in the case of an expelled student who claims Fields targeted black students and falsely accused him of being a gang member in 2013. In another case, a federal jury sided with Fields after a black couple accused him of excessive force and battery during a noise complaint arrest in 2005. A third lawsuit, dismissed in 2009, involved a woman who accused him of battery and violating her rights during a 2006 arrest.

And that’s just the start of it. He attacked a veteran and his wife back in 2005, as reported by the New York Daily News:

Martin said the beefy officer “snapped” after he called him “dude,” and slammed him on the ground. He began pepper-spraying the helpless veteran, but Martin said he was trained in the military to resist the chemicals. An entire canister of the stuff failed to disable Martin.

“He became even more violent because I didn’t react like most people would,” Martin told the News.

His wife at the time, Tashiana Rogers, witnessed the fracas, and ran outside to take photos of the violent encounter with her cellphone.

That’s when Fields called for his partner to “get her black ass,” Martin said. The officer grabbed her phone and deleted the photos.

Fields then called for backup.

“I’m watching my wife get beat up in front of me, and there’s nothing I can do about it,” Martin said.

During the arrest, Martin told Fields the rough arrest would lead to a lawsuit.

“I’m glad Johnny Cochran is dead,” Fields shot back, according to Martin.

The officer also told Martin as he was cuffed that “you’re just another notch in my belt,” according to court documents.

“That was shocking. I was definitely shocked that the jury did not find in her favor,” Mobley said.

Rogers was shocked too. She worries Fields was allowed to operate with impunity — giving him freedom to terrorize high school students.

“I felt like if he had felt the consequences from 2005, this wouldn’t happen today,” she told the Daily News.

Precisely. This is exactly what happens when people in power fail to be held accountable.

Yet it gets even worse. As the Daily News reports, Ben Fields actually received the Richland School District Two Culture of Excellence Award from the Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School in 2014.

Another day, another true story...

My uncle taught at the local high school which I attended. I was out in the hall one day when one of the students mouthed off to him in the hall. No police necessary.

My uncle just picked him off the ground by his shirt and proceeded to give him a lecture while suspending him about two feet above the ground.

Standard Disclaimer: Attitude problem solved. But times were different back then and students knew about respecting others.

Valid point, but today your uncle would be prosecuted criminally for assault and battery and sued by the student for money damages.

The students know this and act accordingly.  A modern version of playing chicken.

The student here should have been disciplined by the school.  I don't think the police officer should have been disciplined.  Good luck the next time someone in that area has a problem and needs a police officer.

How again was her behavior a police matter?  Where in the penal code does it indicate that stubborness and not listening, nor respecting others non-violently result in a permissive police beat down.  Sorry I must have missed that one.

Why not just end compulsory "education?" Free market schools are only attended by those who want to be there.

This is obviously a "hate crime."  He had no right to keep her from disrupting the class. It's raycissly arrogant to ask her to pay attention in class.  Most are there for the free food, anway.

Well it does get difficult to see the local news day after day with story after story of some sort of ghetto behavior.  Local rag today front story about a guy stabbing his girlfriend like 15 times.  School age.  Guy killed her and went back to school to wash up.

The purges are coming.  And it is not going to be pretty.  There will be no "right" side as gangs all around are running wild.  Maybe not in homogeneous areas, but where there are mixes, it is getting ready to pop.

I live in a county that is 98.4% white, and there is this undercurrent going on. We are out in the middle of nowhere, but not too many miles from the county seat. Local high school has had many problems, and these are a whole bunch of crackers causing problems for one another. Not a single face that is anything but pale...

I'm thinking it is more an economic issue. A lof of EBT cards get used at the local Aldi where I'm the only sucker around peeling off FRNs to pay. I do notice a debit card or two, but there are a whole lot of those SNAP cards that get run in front of me.

Economics I would say is the biggest driver. Simply cannot make the pie any bigger and people still want a piece of it.

EBT has been the opiate that has kept this from blowing sky high so far.  Some counties down east of me are crazy high in EBT.  My BIL said something like 40% where he lives.  Not sure why they retired there but hey, it's not me.

Humans are getting tired of the farm and those the farmers hire to keep us on the farm have to become more brutal.  Most do not realize they are on the farm, but they can feel it somehow, and that causes grief as well.

I don't understand how economics is involved a moral issue.  There are plenty of people with and without money who are absolute pieces of shit.  Correllation is not causation.  This is a cultural issue.  I suggest everyone read Code of the Street -- Code of the Street Decency, Violence, and the Moral Life of the Inner City by Elijah Anderson (Norton & Company, 1999).  This is a moral issue, and nothing else.

Everyone needs their ass beat at least once for acting like a fool, it reinforces that fools loose.  While the cop's violence was over the top, the girl was actively stealing from the other students the only resource we cannot get more of - Time, but it is quite possible that the kids did learn more from watching that little episode than what they would have in class that day.

Agreed. Look at the youtube videos when the EBT 12 hour experiment was conducted. Certain people feel their rights are violated when they don't get free stuff. And they pretty much react one way.

I work in the 'burbs of Chicago and I am mapping out how to leave should the situation turn uncontrollable. Even now the police are hesitating.

I'm in no way defending the ferocity with which he did this.  However, my wife teaches at a school with 90% free and reduced lunch, and this is not surpising to see.  Kids are growing up with absolutely zero respect for anyone, be it a police officer, teacher or one of their peers.

It's a combination of no hope and no fear, which is very dangerous.  These stories are merely the details of the devolution of our society.

My wife was naive when she took the job.  Now, she is ready to move to the country, far away from the masses.  The average person has no idea how bad it is getting until they get up close and personal with the issue.

Clearly you are right here. What did Gerald Celente say about people who have nothing left to lose...and then they lose what they have left? Well, they lose it. And there are a bunch of people going overboard. We may be able to make it through Christmas and all the nice carols and stuff, but then in the beginning of next year it probably really hits the fan. Be prepped up.

Not just picking up the food bill, paying these people to breed.  If someone can't provide for themselves, who in the world thought it was a good idea that they should have children?  That makes it that much harder to get a job and get off of welfare.  Also, the taxpayer not only gets to pay to support these kids, they also have to pay for all the medical costs associated with a having a baby, which are VERY expensive.  Exactly, no suprise when people are not required to take responsibility, work towards goals and delay gratification.  Why should the working taxpayers have to delay their family plans, yet those who aren't the ones paying should do as they please?  And they insist on teaching Darwin in schools.  Ha.

While I do believe we have a lot of overly agressive law enforcement officers, that end up in law enforcement because they get some kind of power trip out of dominating over other people I also recognize that we have a serious discipline problem with youth in this country.

We've effectively legislated away our ability to discipline children properly. This comes from two things that I see, overly liberal parents who try to control child behavior more diplomatically and parents who completely ignore their children and let them run wild.

The officer no doubt handled this badly, which may be indicative of his general demeanor based on the history outlined above, but children today are destructive insulting non-compliant arrogant twits.

And of course I am absolutely sickened by the video of the white thug police officer brutalizing this child. What is this country coming to? Like all right-minded individuals, I am doing a lot of soul-searching asking myself what can be done. Is it really necessary to have potential victims such as this young innocent be assigned a personal rights representative 24/7 in order to remedy the psychic and physical trauma?!

Although cognizant of the cost, it seems as though this will be the next logical step to defeat the racism.

"Missing White Woman Syndrome". What a crock. The only reason the focus is on "Missing White Women" is simple - they are targetting the White American population with the broadcast.

Why do others go less reported? The same audience wouldn't give as much of a fuck about them, so they don't bother.

The simple fact is that peoples are generally culturally and tribally motivated in their societal tendencies.

No mystery here. Nothing to see here, move along.

Tell all the students but one or two to leave the classroom. Call the school principal or vice principal and resident roid monster to the classroom.  School nurse if you have one.

So, in theory it is 2-3 adults against one. Plus there are one or 2 student witnesses.

Here, you could threaten expulsion...calling the parents...that sort of shit. True, the kid may have shitty parents and may welcome the explusion.

Kids get off on pleasing the crowd...especially the out of control ones...take away the crowd...and they are much more manageable.

No, she was asked to leave the premises. She refused. Calling the police is the next step.

As I said before, the only thing that could have been done better is the level of force used by the the cop.

He could easily have moved her out of the chair, the room and the school with the appropriate controlling restraint.

Wrong. This is about legal compliance. By refusing to leave when instructed to by the teacher, who in this capacity is acting as an agent on behalf of the Education Dept, on whose property she is now trespassing, she is breaking the law.

Without the defence of property you have nothing but chaos.

Without the enforcement of personal responsibility you have degrading behavoural patterns that lead toward the same.

She needed to be removed, and be seen to be removed. It's the level of force used that is objectionable, and only that.

Certainly there are bullies with badges out there. But there's not enough footage in that 16 second clip to draw the conclusion that the cop wasn't justified in that (restrained, imo) reaction to the uncooperative "student."

And I wonder what that "veteran" was doing back in 2005 that warranted pepper spray. They throw around the fact that he was in the military as if it exonerates bad behavior. Somebody called the cops on him for something. It was at his house, in his front yard. Drunk and disorderly? Beating his wife? Disturbing the peace?

I think Kreiger needs to ask a few more questions here.

Since teachers can no longer lay hands on students. When asked multiple times to leave by the law empowered authorities and refusing to do so, she became a tresspasser. That made her subject to law enforcement.

What is happening here, as in most situations like this, is that the commenting public do not know enough about the law and what people are required to do in order to remain law abiding.

She was breaking the law. The police officer being called in to deal with it was the only response the teachers had left to deal with that fact.

The only thing out of line here is the level of force used by the officer to ensure compliance.

The fact is that the liberals have taken away the ability of the people to treat black people the same as they treat whites. If you do anything except obey them, and fall to your knees and worship them as an ebony god, then you are an evil white person who needs to be punished.

 Indeed

students disobey all the time, have in the past and still do nowadays.

Cops do not need to be called in when students don't pay attention,

talk in class, throw spitballs, chew gum, pass notes, or possess a cell phone.

much less forcibly compel students to spit out gum or surrender cell phones

and arrest them for "resisting".

That may be the policy in prisons, but ...

Victor

you are playing word games in your head.

The registered student was "tresspassing" in the school.

Get real. The cops were called because she did not want to comply with an instruction to

surrender her cell phone.

The "trespassing" in her classroom and "resisting" the forcible attack by the cop are verbal concoctions to elicit a conditioned response from those who reflexively respond to programmed buzz-words.

Again. This was non-threatening misbehavior, not "assaulting" a cop or any other rebranding to claim justification. Students misbehave. Kids misbehave. Teachers who can't deal with that shouldn't be teachers.

Wed, 10/28/2015 - 15:54 | 6722881 Victor von Doom

Sorry, she was asked to leave the class after refusing to comply with the teacher's instructions. The teacher is acting as an agent of the Educaton Dept. when he does that. Non-compliance will result in a police officer being called, which he was.

The law might sound like buzz-words outside of a courtroom, but it gets pretty serious once you're in front of a judge.

Obviously, you have been brainwashed to the Prussian military mindset.

Obedience is NOT freedom.

There was a time past when the military was not worshipped as warrior heroes,

and the police/Pinkertons were seen for what they are. The "police departments" originally were primarily tasked with catching runaway slaves.

Nor was this situation, in military jargon, refusing to obey a command under enemy fire.

Why didn't she want to give up her cell phone? Kids nowadays are socially captive to their phones, messages, and contacts. Were there other reasons, financial or personal? Why did the teacher not just continue with the class and deal with her later? Why not excuse her if she did not want to stay without bothering other students there to learn?

Did other students want to learn? What kind of teacher and what kind of class was it?

Your Bullshit demands for school students to have military discipline, obey "agents of the state", etc. is too servile.

Kids NEED to learn to question authority if we are to have a free society.

Yes, it may be inconvenient sometimes, but accepting blind complete obedience from kids is stupid and destructive. Yes, the kids may be wrong, even often. But calling the cops because a student is uncooperative is a self-defeating"cop-out".

Thu, 10/29/2015 - 08:02 | 6725372 Victor von Doom
Victor von Doom's picture

Having attended both Frederick's schule system and the military I am aware of the Prussian military mindset.

Obedience to law enforcement officers carrying out their legal duties may not freedom, but it is law abiding.

My so called "Bullshit demands" amount to nothing less than obeying the law.

You think that's too serville? What sort of criminal are you?

Kids NEED to learn to take personal responsibility for their actions & obey legal authorities if we are to have any sort of society at all.

Blind opposition to law enforcement, just because the represent "authority" is just as bad as total submission to a tyrannical State.

As to whether holding law breakers to account being a self-defeating cop-out because the offenders are students is just plain dumb. At what point exactly do you believe the citizenry should be introduced to the idea that obedience to the law is not really a supportable option in the face of law enforcement?

The younger the better in my mind. I don't want my kids in trouble with the law.

Thu, 10/29/2015 - 16:54 | 6725748 rwe2late

 You need to ask

who makes the laws and

what is their purpose?

History is replete with examples of unjust and repressive laws,

and those who resist them "unlawfully". Slavery was once "legal", Jim Crow laws

were countered by civil disobedience, organizing for workers rights was illegal, alcohol once prohibited, petty drug laws still enforced, women not voting. Even the military recognizes at some level the right to refuse immoral orders.

How are laws made and enforced, and against whom? Finance laws and non-enforcement. War crimes and non enforcement. Surveillance laws?

Get a grip. This was a 16 year old girl violently attacked in school for unwillingness to give up her cell phone. And you are arguing in defense because you think it is proper because you contend it is wrong to ever show any resistance to the "law".

You have an idealized abstraction of the "law" which does NOT conform to reality.

As I wrote, claiming what's right or wrong by categorizing behavior into "legal" or "illegal"

is an overly simplistic and servile cop-out.

The young student was not violently attacked because she refused to give up her cell phone. That's sophistry at its best.

The officer in question used force against the student after she refused to obey a legal order to vacate the premises. The level of force escalated rapidly when she struck the officer and he then subdued her for arrest.

The "oppressive law" that you were talkking about was tresspassing.

I happen to endourse tresspassing laws.

So do billions of others.

What's your problem with them?

As for the need to  "get a grip" because I have "reduced" the incidenct from "right and wrong" to legal or illegal is a poor analysis of the situation, and is not a "cop-out", regardless of how you feel about it.

What the officer did was legal, and will be endorsed by the State.

Whether an individual likes that or not is a different subject. I passed no moral judgement on what was done, and I don't. I prefer to deal with reality, not wish lists.

Devolve into the real of the "should haves" and you will never hear the end of it.

I'd be happy to discuss proposed alternatives, for both schools and police officers - so I am open minded on this.

However, I do not believe police methods will be changed, as their policy is to uphold the dominance of the State's will, not "Protect the People". It's the reason for their existance.

In every single case, I'm sure they started off with people just not doing what the police requested of them. Pretty simple. You turn in your cellphone during class. Especially during tests. It's just common procedure in almost every school in this country.

When the police asks you to do something, just do it. How easy is that?

Yes, there are cases where countries become like police states and hunt for citizens like 1930's Germany , but we are FAR from that in this country. Stop blaming the cops!

One thing is for certain. Every other kid in that class will turn in their cellphones going forward.

Come ZH dont pull a Holder/Obama   Michael Brown on us.  Multiple attempts were made to stop her behavior, she lashed out at the resource officer and he put her down and cuffed her.

Yeah, the cop seems to have rage issues and should not have a gun or any authority to use violence. However I blame what the school system has become... and for that I blame the parasitic elitist central planners.

Make sure to blame the parents (use of plural intentional) for failing to discipline the kid properly...never would have happened otherwise.

They need the foolish masses to get worked into a frenzy before proving that once again like most other "racist cop" events this too was a non-event.

Court settlements for misconduct should come out of police pension funds. Only then will they get rid of their bad apples.

This cop, along with the other nazi thugs wearing a badge, puts a target on every decent cop.  The guy's history of abuse is shocking, the people who sued him and lost should file suit against his employers.

You instantly put guilt on the cop. Did it ever occur to you that the people who sued lost because they had no case and were looking for easy money by claiming racism? Naw, that'd never happen in this country would it?

Funny how every person in every story about this "violent" cops past are black and accuse him of being racist and/or violent. I see a pattern but it's not this cops behavior, it's the criminals lies and excuses.

You know I think it is important, very important for the GenXers who this raging cop is probably a member of should consider what the millenials are going to do to us when we get old, envision if you can, NO PENSIONS, NO HELP, NO MEDICARE.  People should treat these young people with more respect, the paybacks are going to be horrendous in 20 or 30 years.

lol - I am a Gen Xer, and I want that to happen NOW. Stop robbing me blind to pay all the Gimmedats.

I refuse to be one. I'll build my own wealth basis and retirement fund, or die trying, thank you very much.

Communists and beggars go hand in hand. Pick the society you want to live in. I have.
