Russian Plane "Broke Apart In The Air," Officials Say As Investigators Frantically Search For "Clues"

Tyler Durden's picture

Just when it seemed as though the conflict in Syria and the attendant ISIS saga couldn’t possibly get any more surreal, on Saturday a Russian passenger jet fell out of the sky over the Sinai Peninsula. Subsequently, ISIS claimed responsibility and released a video clip that purportedly depicts the mid-air explosion that brought the plane down.

All 224 people on board were killed including 17 children. It was the worst “accident” in the history of Russian aviation. Bodies are reportedly scattered as far as 8 kilometers from the crash site. "We found a three-year-old girl eight kilometres from the scene" of the main wreckage, one official told AFP. The picture shown below, which depicts Darina, a 10-month old girl killed in the crash staring at planes before flying to Egypt, has gone viral.

Now, as Russia mourns, authorities are scrambling to determine exactly what happened and more than a few observers contend that ISIS couldn’t possibly have shot the plane down given the altitude. Nevertheless, some international airlines have diverted traffic over the region which has been the site of clashes between the Egyptian government and militants.

Adding to the mystery, the plane’s co-pilot allegedly voiced concerns about the condition of the aircraft prior to the flight and while officials insist that it would be extraordinarily difficult for a terrorist group to hit a plane flying at 31,000 feet, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail says there’s “no evidence that anything unusual was happening on the plane before it crashed.”

Here’s more from Bloomberg:

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said in a televised news conference on Saturday that it would be premature to speculate on the cause of the crash before the data on recorders were analyzed.

Conflicting reports have emerged about whether the pilot, who was flying at an altitude of 31,000 feet, indicated a technical problem. While Civil Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal said the pilot hadn’t radioed an SOS call, the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya satellite channel reported he had sought permission to land at a nearby airport.

“It is technically difficult to target a plane at that level,” Ismail said. “We have no evidence that anything unusual was happening on the plane before it crashed.”

Islamic State’s statement doesn’t specify how the plane was downed and the local affiliate may have jumped the gun to take credit, Mokhtar Awad, an analyst at the Center for American Progress, a research institute in Washington, said by e-mail. Russian Transportation Minister Maxim Sokolov said on state television that reports of a terrorist missile aren’t credible.

Former Israeli national security adviser Yaakov Amidror, an army reserves general, concurred that it was unlikely an Islamist group shot down the aircraft. But “other scenarios also have to be considered, especially the possibility that the plane was sabotaged at the airport before taking off,” Amidror said.

Preliminary investigations indicate the plane went down due to a technical problem, the state-run Ahram Gate website said, citing Egyptian security officials. The plane had reached cruising altitude before crashing in the remote

Al Hassana area of central Sinai, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Al-Arish. Egyptian security forces have been waging a fierce campaign in the area against militants who have pledged allegiance to Islamic State.

Other experts claim that the plane's movements just prior to the crash seem to rule out a terrorist attack.

In its final seconds Saturday, the Metrojet plane was bucking wildly, abruptly climbing and descending before communication was lost, according to FlightRadar24.com, which tracks flight routes. At times it dropped as fast as 6,000 feet per minute, only to reverse and climb even faster, repeating that pattern several times. At other times, it slowed dangerously. About 24 seconds before losing contact, it dropped to 71 miles per hour from 470 miles, according to the data. Jetliners such as the Airbus 321 can’t stay aloft at such a speed.

If the FlightRadar24 data are correct, “it probably rules out sabotage,” said Paul Hayes, director of air safety and insurance at Ascend Worldwide. “It’s probably some sort of control problem.”

As a refresher, here's a look at the flight path and data:

The aircraft was descending rapidly at about 6,000 (2,000 meters) feet per minute before the signal was lost to air traffic control.

And here's a bit more color from Sputnik:

Experts from Egypt, Russia, and France have started analyzing the flight data recorders of the Russian airliner which crashed Saturday in Egypt killing 224, Egyptian media report.

The airliner's flight recorders were discovered on Saturday night. The Russian transportation minister said they had no significant damages.

"There is minor technical damage. But there was no thermal impact as the Egyptian representatives say," Maksim Sokolov said.

A Kogalymavia/Metrojet Airbus A321 en route to St. Petersburg from the resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh with 217 passengers and seven crew on board, crashed in the Sinai Peninsula, leaving no survivors. The Sinai air crash became the deadliest air accident in the history of Russian aviation, surpassing the 1985 disaster in Uzbekistan, where 200 people died.

And so, even as the "experts" claim that i) ISIS couldn't have shot the plane down, and ii) that the data seem to "rule out" sabotage, one can't help but note that Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was brought down by a missile over Ukraine and furthermore, it's not clear why "some sort of control problem" isn't compatible with someone either hitting the aircraft with a projectile or else detonating an explosive on board. That is, when planes explode in mid-flight, it tends to lead to "control problems." Indeed, Russian officials have confirmed that the plane "broke apart in the air":

"It is too early to draw conclusions," MAK executive director Viktor Sorochenko says. "Disintegration of the fuselage took place in the air, and the fragments are scattered around a large area [about 20 square kilometers]", the official added.

Yes, it "broke apart", which would appear to suggest that it in fact exploded. And so even as it will probably never be possible to definitively say whether or not the video released on Saturday is real or fake, we would note once again that if the footage is authentic, someone on the ground knew exactly when to start filming.

In any event, we'll await the "official" word, although reports indicate that it could take weeks, or even months to determine exactly what happened here. That said, if there's even a shred of credible evidence to corroborate the video shown above, don't expect The Kremlin to wait around on the full report as IS in Sinai may soon find themselves shooting at other Russian jets in the skies above Egypt - only these jets will be shooting back.

First off, to all the anti-Semites on this site, I'd like to say "Sieg Hiel!" Second, this terrible accident was just that. A terrible accident, nothing to do with the war in Syria. And last, I say "Deucthland Uber Alles" to all the wonderful Anti-Semites here. It's the Jew's fault.

"broke apart" DOES NOT automatically mean EXPLOSIVES. They can tell right away if it was an explosion/powder burn/schrapnel/etc. It doesn't look burnt.

I was waiting for someone to point that out, autofixer. Someone made a comment about how improbable anything could happen to an aircraft at cruise and the first thing that popped into my mind was, "It wasn't 'at' cruise, it just hit TOC" which brings up vague memories of the historic pitot tube problems - since remedied. But I'll refrain from trying to divine what the flight recorders already know.

Read about Air France 447 and you will discover what Airbus pilots reported back then.

Airbus has the philosophy that the computer makes the ultimate decision.

Faulty instruments feeding invalid data into the computer can cause the computer to do unexpected things and the pilot can do nothing about it.

It is why I have done my best to avoid Airbus planes ever since that accident.

I went to http://www.airsafe.com/events/models/rate_mod.htm. The Airbus321 has a crash rate per million mi of 0.11 while the comparable B-737-200 has a rate of 0.61.

Totaling all models, the Boeing does better than Airbus but that's not an argument specific to the model. The A321 just doesn't have the bad numbers.

Sabotage seems to be an ever increasing theme as of late.  This situation reeks, constant coincidence is no longer a viable explanation.  If TPTB want war then war we will have, it's just a matter of how they can justify it and appear to hold the higher moral ground.  Most likely they have been trying to bait Russia/China into a response.

I have NPR informed company in town and if the blather I have been relentlessly subjected to is any indication the left is all for putting a stop to Putins evil reign of "empire rebuilding" and "aggression".  If the left wont resist a potential WWIII then who will?  Nobody can see what ISIS is, we are watching building 7 all over again.  Happy Halloweeny Bitchez.

ISIS is guarding the territory Israel covets in south west Syria. Their task is to stay there until a convenient time for Israel to take action. After some alleged outrage, the IDF will be 'forced to take over the territory to defend itself'. If the ISIS guys are still of use to Israel, the IDF will give them warning, allowing them to move out elsewhere. Otherwise, they will just be target practise for the IDF.

Russia is very afraid of Syria or Iran taking down NATO/US/Israel jets.  (Jordan jets are ok)

It is a very important item that shows russia does not back an independent Syria and Iran.

Russia has not supplied the systems to either Syria or Iran.  Russia has threatened and even announced it was going to finally deliver the missile systems at least to Iran, mostly as a threat to the US, but then never did.  Why is that?  They could have been loaded onto a military cargo plane and flow there in just days but Putin still refuses to deliver them.

The govt of Iran said the missiles "were going to be" delivered.  They never were and still have not been.  Russia said they were "going to" supply the missiles soon and then they never did.  Times of Israel, really, how about debka.  But then lets look at what Israel said - "the executive stages for the delivery of the system are now being taken based on the previously signed" in other words they are still shuffling meaningless paperwork and have not delivered anything.  Nothing.

It not surprising that Assad would claim systems were being supplied when they are not.  His country is getting bombed and he would like to scare someone.  But even Russia does not say they have changed their mind and delivered the systems.  In fact Russia has not even voiced a willingness to supply the system anytime in the future, as they have with Iran (but have not).  Poor Assad has Israel bombing at the very outskirts of his capital and has been helpless to prevent.

I still cannot find any real documentation that Assad shot down an Israeli fighter jet as you have claimed he did using the S300 systems.  Nothing on RT and they would have carried that.

Putin wants to keep Syria and Iran dependent on Russia  but also wants to prevent either of them from shooting down a NATO/Israli plane using a russian system.  Fear of even that.

But better yet, lets read what Russia said about these self serving claims by Assad - "A source close to Russia's defense ministry said, however, that the "hardware itself" had yet to be delivered to Syria, where Moscow has a Mediterranean naval base. But, the source added, "certain parts of the contract may have been fulfilled"."  So the systems have not been delivered - So Says Russia - but some "parts" of the contract might have been fullfilled.  In other words, Russia says Assad is lieing and the systems are not there.  BUT - Israel says they are there and that this is justification for Israel to make preemptive strikes against the forces of Syria.  That is the purpose of the Guardian's article, helping Israel, using the lies spoken by Assad himself.

The Israeli air force attacked facilities belonging to the Syrian regime and to Hezbollah forces on Friday in the Al-Qalamoun mountains in Syria, near the Lebanon border, sources in the Syrian opposition reported on Saturday.

"On October 8, into the second week of Russian airstrikes against ISIS and other so-called “moderate” terrorists at the request of the Assad government, Yuval Bartov, chief geologist from Genie Energy’s Israeli subsidiary, Afek Oil & Gas, told Israel’s Channel 2 TV that his company had found a major oil reservoir on the Golan Heights: “We’ve found an oil stratum 350 meters thick in the southern Golan Heights. On average worldwide, strata are 20 to 30 meters thick, and this is 10 times as large as that, so we are talking about significant quantities.”

This oil find has now made the Golan Heights a strategic “prize” that clearly has the Netanyahu government more determined than ever to sow chaos and disorder in Damascus and use that to de facto create an Israeli irreversible occupation of Golan and its oil. A minister in the Netanyahu coalition government, Naftali Bennett, Minister of Education and Minister of Diaspora Affairs and leader of the right-wing religious party, The Jewish Home, has made a proposal that Israel settle 100,000 new Israeli settlers across the Golan in five years. He argues that with Syria “disintegrating” after years of civil war, it’s hard to imagine a stable state to which the Golan Heights could be returned. Further a growing chorus in Tel Aviv is arguing that Netanyahu demand American recognition of Israel’s 1981 annexation of the Golan as an “appropriate salve to Israeli security concerns in the wake of the nuclear deal with Iran.”

Energy war has been a significant component of US, Israeli, Qatari, Turkish, and, until recently, Saudi, strategy against Syria’s Assad regime. Before the latest Golan Heights oil discovery, the focus on Assad pivoted on the huge regional natural gas resources of both Qatar and of Iran on opposite sides of the Persian Gulf, comprising the largest known gas discovery in the world to date.

In 2009 the government of Qatar, today home to the Muslim Brotherhood and a major funder of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, met with Bashar al-Assad in Damascus."

Russia have sent three airplanes filled with experts, FSB, quite probably spetsnaz, rescuers, and even ministers within 1 day. Further teams are on the way. This will be no MH-17 where all the evidence was left laying for months under Ukrainian army shell fire. The wreckage of MH-17 came under Ukrainian army shell fire immediately that investigators tried to approach the wreckage. Ukie's shells successfully kept investigators away fro months. The lnadscape around the MH-17 crash site is filled with shell craters of the desperate Ukrainian military, hoping to destroy wreckage and investigators. Sadly for the Ukies, rebel counter battery fire began to do so much damage to Ukie artillery that fire slacked off to a trickle after a couple months.

ooooh - what can I find out???

wait for it....

Internet Haganah
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Internet Haganah is a "global intelligence network dedicated to confronting Internet activities by Islamists and their supporters, enablers and apologists."

Internet Haganah also is an activist organization which attempts to convince businesses not to provide web-based services to such groups, and collects intelligence to store and pass on to government organizations. It was formed by Aaron Weisburd, an American computer programmer from Illinois, in 2002, and became part of a collection of private anti-terrorist web monitoring companies, including "Terrorism Research Center", "Search for International Terrorist Entities Institute", and "Northeast Intelligence Network". Weisburd is the only full-time employee of Internet Haganah, which is run primarily from his home office, with the help of many online associates.[1][2][3]

The organization

Haganah is a Hebrew word meaning "defense". Haganah is also the name of the early Zionist militia originally formed to defend Jewish settlers in British Mandate Palestine, and which evolved into what is now the Israel Defense Forces.[4][5]

There are two main parts to Internet Haganah:

A small, global band of researchers, consultants, analysts and translators, who "associate and collaborate with each other as necessitated by our common desire to do more than just watch Islamists as they use the Internet. We [Internet Haganah] share an understanding that a jihad, or holy war, has been declared against the West, and these jihadists need to be met on whatever field of battle they may appear."
The parent organization is The Society for Internet Research.

Operation

The organization says it has taken down more than 1,000 Jihad sites.[6] Their success logo, is a simple drawing of an AK-47, colored blue.

To target websites perceived as threats, the organization relies upon its web community to find jihadists, and use a free "whois" service to determine if a US-based server hosts them. If so, as in the case of mawusat.com and its host Go Daddy, Internet Haganah operatives express concern about the nature of the site and ask the host to remove it. If this does not work and if the site concerns the US State Department's list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations, or the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control's list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons, Internet Haganah contacts the Banks and Financiers of the host, who could face serious penalties for engaging in unreported transactions with the suspect website. If all else fails, the media may be contacted.[7]

However, as the defense become more elaborate, so does the offense. In the case of GoDaddy.com and mawusat.com, the site was attacked, but appeared on a different server within a week. Newsweek reported that:

It’s no coincidence, they argue, that in just the past year, Islamists have gotten savvier in their use of the Internet. In early 2004, Iraqi insurgent Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi and his group posted the video of the execution of Nicholas Berg, an American contractor working in Iraq, to one Web site, which was quickly overwhelmed with traffic. Today, jihadis post evidence of their operations on dozens of sites and coordinate their operations on secret e-mail lists, password-protected Web sites and audio chat services like PalTalk, which don’t leave behind a printed record. “The level of sophistication of these groups has become just unbelievable,”says Rita Katz, who monitors Islamic Internet activities as director of the D.C.-based Site Institute.

– Stone, Brad (July 13, 2005.)
Founder

A. Aaron Weisburd is a "half-Irish, half-Jewish New Yorker" in Carbondale, Illinois. He was a philosophy major at George Washington University. He is the founder and Director of Internet Haganah, and also of the Society for Internet Research.[8]
Press coverage

Internet Haganah has received press coverage from such publications as Wired News and Newsweek. A profile of Internet Haganah and their conflict with Islamist hacker Irhabi 007 was featured in the July/August 2006 of The Atlantic. Haganah has also been reported on by a Hamas newspaper.

Internet Haganah was identified by Media Matters for America as one of the sources to use the term "Obama Intifada", a term critical of U.S. President Barack Obama's policies on Israel.[9][relevant? – discuss]

The French AF447 A330 went into a stall due to pilot inexperience when the plane's pitot tubes froze up and blocked airspeed data being fed to the computer systems when the plane went thru a huge violent storm containing super-cooled water. One-by-one the plane's computers shut down all flight control systems because it thought the plane was on the tarmac. Pilots now on their own.

The storey goes that the pilots managed to recover from the first stall but went into a second one much closer to the water surface from which they didn't recover.

Relying only on Pitot tubes when there is GPS data which can provide position and speed data?

And did they throw away all, not leaving a single good old gyroscopic device as backup?

Dunno. But airlines with Airbus A330 & A340 planes were ordered to replace the pitot tubes with later versions which don't freeze up.

One of the mysterious discoveries that came out of this accident was the existence of pure super-cooled water which remains liquid at temps far below freezing point but freezes solid immediately it comes into contact with anything, in this case the planes pitot tubes. Investigators carried out a controlled experiment using super-cooled water for a TV documentary to demonstrate what happens.

Another thing that was revealed is that most modern day pilots (not just Air France) are not trained to deal with a stall due to the fly-by-wire technology which makes such events virtually impossible. Only military pilots (or ex-military pilots) have that expertise, US military pilots in particular know how to deal with one.

I have not heard anything other than poor maintenance on the plane from those I know in Russia.  If they do know something they are not going to tell me.  What is going on in Syria is payback for something that happened 700 or so years ago.  The Russians have no need to be reactionary because they will take their pound of flesh as time allows.  That hate goes back long before oil was even in consideration and Russians and Muslims have long memories.  Russians DO NOT THINK LIKE WE DO.  Russians don't think in terms of a century or two.  They are not afraid for the ground to become red because it would not be the first time.

I think our armed force members have families back home that they might rather be with.  Let's get the hell out of there while we can.

Well, if IT can not reach the lower plane, you have two options:

1- pump in the cargo hold.

2. A meteorite.

There is another option that would not want to explain any weapons in Earth orbit.

From a passenger plane in half is not common.

Let us wait investigations but you can tell the Russians answer is insane.

Most of these passenger planes can be flown remotely and in Auto. Many times the PIC doesn't 'land' the A/C but has hands on,,, just in case. Many of the engine manufactureers have live sensor data streaming and it's possible some parameters may be changed remotely depending upon the sophistication.

When Mr. Digital gets involved and he is 'connected' almost anything is possible. The pilot of the Lone Gunman (March 2001)  is a good watch for how this could happen and is, in my opinion, the method used for the 9/11 demolition derby and gold heist,,, brought to you by your friendly spooks in DC and Tel Aviv,,, the atomized A/C that hit the Pentagram (maybe hit by a hidden Star Trek Proton Torpedo) and the A/C flying around the Pennsylvania countryside with the "Let's Roll" hero's aboard.

I know, I know,,, sigh,,, Tin foil hat con-spiracy theory. Everybody knows you can only fly drones by remote control.

why was all the initial talk about missiles? LIke they didn't even consider the old-fashioned way to bring down a plane - a bomb. Occam's razor says that is the most likely reason. More likely than mid-air catastrophic structural failure.

Sounds like possibly the airframe may have been overstressed and the tail came off due to excess positive G forces. The aircraft is equipped with a "alpha protection system" which is to say it is not possible to stall the aircraft. As the aircraft approaches a stall a computer will lower the nose resulting in an increase
in airspeed. If this system malfunctions it is possible for the aircraft to descend even with full back pressure on the side-stick controllers. There are corrective actions that involve shutting down two of the three computers involved. If the elevators on the tail suddenly assume the position commanded by the side stick controllers due to the faulty computer being shut down and the airspeed is high enough the airframe could be overstressed.

2001 an Indian Airbus went down over New York. Rudder failure due to stress. Rumor has it that tail bumps occur on this type of air bus, causing structural stress needing repair after each such tail bump at landing. Tail clearly came off first.

Yeah, the fact that tail came off after rapid changes in altitude would point at elevators at the tail section as a point of origin. Still too early to claim anything other than guessing...

So many comments on this thread but so few asking who benefits from this disaster? CUI BUONO?

The US, Britain, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar?....way too risky or insanely desperate an act for a nation state (yes even Israel at this time because unlike in the US AIPAC isn't running Russia).

So who?

ISIL perhaps? Well they are owned and directed by the countries listed above so I would say its still way to risky.

So, we're back to WHO?

Who is the one person who runs around the world agitating everyone everywhere through his NGO's and media empire?...

GEORGE SOROS

By blowing up the plane he may hope to create an even deeper crisis between major countries from which he can pursue his sick global agenda.

Further he has his finger in every dirty geopolitical pie across the globe from Color Revolutions across Europe, to Black Lives Matter in the US, to the migrant crisis in Europe if you dig deep enough you so often find SOROS.

Houthies, correct to a degree. Up to now, Houthies have been using old Soviet versions of ATGM. I saw several in action, and they are old, 80's stuff. But, it appears most Saudi tanks are vulnerable to even old ATGM. The modern Russian ATGM is nothing short of a killer!

reports state that the aircraft slowed and sped up, ascended and descended in a dramatic fashion several times before disappearing from radar.

this type of behavior would suggest a mechanical malfunction, would it not? if it had been hit by a SAM, one that is capable of reaching a plane flying at 30,000 feet the damage would have been instant and catastrophic much like it was with flight MH17 in the Ukraine. no attempts at recovery would have been possible as the radar showed happened repeatedly with the air bus and as has already been pointed out many times a MANPAD is no threat to an aircraft flying that high.

that leads me to believe the ISIS flunkies who issued the statement were just being opportunistic, attempting to claim something that they had neither the hardware nor the training to achieve. there has never been anything to indicate any branch of ISIS has managed to get their hands on a SAM system advanced enough to hit a target at that altitude. and even if their patrons had passed such a system off to them on the down low and trained them how to use it, why waste such a rare and valuable asset on a civilian airliner?

some say Moscow is denying the shoot down in an effort to negate any potential gain ISIS could reap from it. I would say that is exactly what is happening now but with every world military power scrutinizing every inch of land and air space in the MENA with satellites, radar, drones ect. I doubt so much as a firecraker would go unnoticed and unrecorded let alone a long range surface to air missile. and with the shoot down being pointless unless it could be verified and displayed to the public I would think they would have been able to provide more than just one short, grainy and completely unverifiable video of the event.

I suppose a bomb or an attempted hijacking gone wrong is possible but ISIS didn't claim either and were specific that they shot the plane down in their statement. nothing about there claim washes in any way, so it's really hard to believe there is any truth to it.

which leads us to the most common and likely cause, a mechanical malfunction from which the pilot attempted to but could not recover. another really interesting theory making the rounds is the aircraft was hit by a small meteorite or several fragments of one. there has been a remarkable increase in reported meteor sightings everywhere as of late so I think it should be left on the list of suspects for now.

reports state that the aircraft slowed and sped up, ascended and descended in a dramatic fashion several times before disappearing from radar.

Porpoising.

Most modern passenger jets, including Airbus 330 such as the one that crashed after takeoff from Rio on Sunday night, are equipped with a computerized guidance system known as an Air Data Inertial Reference Unit. The ADIRU feeds key information like altitude and airspeed data to equally key navigation systems, including the pilots' altimeters and other displays. It also sends data to the autopilot.

Given the above, it's obvious that if the ADIRU is sending bad data to the flight instruments there's real potential for disaster. Never has "garbage in-garbage out" carried such dire consequences.

And the fact is, wonky ADIRUs have been identified as the culprits in several recent near-catastrophes involving Airbus. Last year, for instance, authorities blamed the ADIRU after a Qantas Airbus 330 started porpoising wildly while at cruising altitude. There were 51 passenger injuries, ranging from broken bones to spinal damage, before pilots regained control.

"About two minutes after the initial fault, (the air data inertial reference unit) generated very high, random and incorrect values for the aircraft's angle of attack," the Australian Transport Safety Bureau said in a statement at the time, according to Agence France Presse.

Also last year, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued anAirworthiness Directive warning airlines about an "unsafe condition" associated with ADIRU's aboard Airbus 319, 320, and 321 models. The directive warned that the ADIRU in question was issuing bogus navigational fault warnings that could "result in loss of one source of critical altitude and airspeed data and reduce the ability of the flight crew to control the airplane."

I, for one, don't think the Russians are going to reveal much more about this tragedy than they already have.

If it was sabotage, they don't want the perps to know how much and what they know.

If it was mechanical/structural  failure, they don't want to accuse Egyptian mechanics and al Sisi's Egypt of sloppiness.

If it was a failure of the aircraft we might learn how it failed.  If, though, it was sabotage, we will only hear of some explosive event on the battlefield, make some connection, but still not know what happened to the Russian plane.

Two consequences, unintended or not, of the downing of this plane in the Sinai are

1) The $17 billion deal between China and Air Bus Group may be in for some revisions.

  http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-29/china-signs-17-billion...

2) Russia now may not feel it has to cooperate with the US about the 50 special operations troops soon to be embedded with the"moderate" rebels.  If the Pentagon knows whats good for them, they'll keep them out of harm's way.

*****************************************************

EDIT

for 2) to work, Rusia has to accuse all the rebels, moderate or otherwise, of downing the plane.

Then with the same certainty that the White House, the NYT, WaPo, Fox and all the other western propaganda machines had that the separatists with the help of Russia brought down MH17 go after all the armed insurgents.

Declare all of them enemies of Russia and wipe up the desert floor with them.

Let this be a warning to the special ops troops to keep their distance from the moderate rebels.

If theoretically they are vulnerable and if their controls were designed and programmed in a US-controlled country using US-made or designed chips, then this is not an outlandish suspicion.

I don't know if the commenter who said that Russia has grounded all planes in this class, but it seems to me like the responsibile thing to do.

As for the video, it would be very difficult to record a plane at 31,000 feet with a hand-held camera.  However if it's not authentic, then someone in ISIS was standing by and ready with that tape, and therefore must have had some foreknowledge.

Who was it who spoke at the UN General Assembly about a "sulfur smell"?

A couple notes:

-----

#1:  The article says "if the footage is authentic", which I take to mean "if the footage is 100% video of optical images and contains no special effects".  However, another possibility is the footage is authentic, but is of some other airplane taken some other date.

#2:  If the airplane really was making those extreme, irregular motions for as long as indicated in the article, I would expect the co-pilot to report either "problems with aircraft" or "extreme turbulence" to one or more nearby airports.

I don't have a strong opinion on this accident, yet.  Given the fairly good safety record of the airplane, I would definitely be thoroughly checking everyone who touched the aircraft before takeoff (those who add fuel, mechanics, baggage loaders, food service, etc).  Quite obviously one of these folks could have placed a bomb with timer in the aircraft.  But, if a bomb did explode at the start of the several minutes of irregular flight, it is almost unbelievable that neither pilot communicated the explosion.  Strange.

PS:  I would be totally in character for neo-con-jobs in the USSA to give a surface to air missle launcher to ISIS or other of their terrorist groups.  But I have no evidence of that, of course.

Russia has set up a base at the 'terrorist infested' crash site - NO problems - One thing you can be sure of is that Russians will get the truth after an intentionally 'prolonged' investigation - Russia - China and Iran already know the TRUTH - The 'prolonged investigation' period will give them time to prepare an indefensable response ! Nukes will not be required ! Russia is suspending ALL airbus services and any other 'Fly by Wire' planes i would suspect !

Maybe someone should check to see if the pilot or co-pilot was screaming Alah Akbar or some shit at some point in the flight.....The whole thing to me appears to be a plane taken over and flown into the ground or a struggle ensued for control of aircraft.    Some fucked up Muslim or convert will be in the mix before investigation is over.....either that or USA downed it....you know they have the wherewithal.

To me it appears from the info so far provided that the plane broke into 2 because of a structural defect which could have been caused by thermite released at a predetermined altitude.

I am no expert but if a bomb or missile hit the plane there must be ample evidence at the crash site.

I doubt seriously that it was sabotage.  but if it was, the Russians will know VERY quickly.  Any type of explosive device or thermal device will leave chemical residues that can be identified and analyzed very quickly.  Russian experts can check this very quickly - they are probably already on their way to the crash site.

It's more likey structural or maintenance-related.  This aircraft had a heavy impact on the tail 11 years ago. It is quite possible that this started cracks somewhere in the fuselage ... damage that was not detected by standard checks on the structure.  There will be a lot of questions about this.  It is also quite possible that there was some type of maintence issue with the control systems or the elevator and rudder.  But that type of problem would be unlikely to cause a comnplete structural breakup.

Once again, PRAYERS for all of the families.  These types of accidents are always a huge tragedy.

And I agree that the photo of the 10-month child is heartbreaking.

Early reports are almost always wrong as rumors and disinformation get sent out every which direction... Official results from investigations are usually wrong because they involve political pressure and cover-ups... that said, My vote is it was a bomb strategically placed to split the plane almost immediately.  Airports need to buy more bomb detection equipment.

If by any chance Israel (Mossad) brought the plane down and nudged ISIS to take responsibility for it, then Russia have no choice but to immediately implicate US since they're the "custodians" of ISIS. I mean everyone knows that right? I'm sure Russian and US officials have progressed beyond that fact in close quarters and no longer bullshit one another.

So could this be Israel's scheme to finally have Russia and US face off for good?

So we have the same interests pushing Russia in Ukraine, a Malaysian Airlines (after another one disappearing just months earlier) plane crashes in Russian-backed rebel held territory. The plane started at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, where the security is being run by a company with strong ties to Israel, established by former members of the Israeli secret service (Shin Bet). The airport is also a weapons transit point for Israel. (In 2006, dutch parliamentary inquiries showed that weapons passed through the airport prior the Israeli invasion of Lebanon.)

We have the same interests waging proxy war against Russian interests in Syria. Russia intervenes directly, a month later a Russian airliner crashes in Egypt. The plane started at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport, which was originally an Israeli Air Force base. The plane crashed not very far from the Israeli border.

Coincidences, what else.

The Dutch-Israeli firm ICTS International came under scrutiny in 2009-10 for that they allowed to board the "Underwear Bomber" in Amsterdam en route Detroit on Christmas Day, 2009. (Which case has that classic false flag feel to it.)

It's subsidiary in the US, Huntleigh can also be linked to 9/11.

"Huntleigh has been sued in scores of cases claiming screening failures by its workers at Boston's Logan Airport, where two of the jets used in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks took off."

"Huntleigh's parent company, ICTS International N.V., of the Netherlands."

Carter seem to be pretty much an insider. http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/12/05/ash911/

"Here’s Carter in a 1998 essay in Foreign Affairs, co-written with Philip Zelikow". Zelikow, the zionist executive director of the 9/11 Commission. (Which was of course obviously a CIA-Mossad job, designed to kick start the ME carnage among other things.)

Btw, speaking of publications, the PNAC study from 2000 which has the phrase "new Pearl Harbor" in it, has been co-written by Donald Kagan, father of Robert Kagan, who is the husband of Victoria Nuland.

What I find strange is the lack of communication from the cockpit.

The other strange thing is that unlike the Airbus that went into the pacific, as I recall it was night and there were no ground or visual points of reference and the pilots may have experienced vertigo. In this case, they would have had great visibility and the sun for spatial orientation.

Maybe it was Airbus control system that failed, pilots fought against it, regained control, and then the tail snapped off when they recovered and it was over. This would explain the fact that many of the people were still intact as were their cellphones...low speed, low altitude impact.

Holy fuck, it must have been terrifying.....much more so than the GermanWings crash. I gotta stop flying on Airbus equipment.

Let see.. the Russian NTSB already banned the airline from operating this type or airplane. I suspect, that thei airlines neglects costly maintenance (this is airbus plane. imported from france. Unlike ilyusinairplanes).

Next i suspect (if the EU sanction still in effect to Russia), Russia will banned all US/EU COO (Country of Origin) airplanes from operating in Russia airspace (from Russian operated airlines). Cause Russia understand it's costly to import all the necessary parts & maintenance works, given the EU/US sanctions.

A decree would be issued by Kremlin to replace those civilian airplanes with Russian made one. Bad news for Airbus & Boeing.

This is a good time for Russia to switch from overseas supplier to a domestic one..

What is interesting is that SputnikNews is carrying the story that everything is "OK". It looks like no one will ever know the truth. For all we know the US could have pulled the trigger on this.
