Following Paris Terror Attacks, Only Three Things Are Guaranteed

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Nick Bernabe via TheAntiMedia.org,

France was victimized by a bloody terror attack on the evening of November 13th, 2015. ISIS, the self-proclaimed “Islamic caliphate,” has taken credit for the Paris terror attacks, which claimed the lives of at least 129 people and wounded another 415.

The world is grieving, with millions on social media declaring their solidarity with France. Millions more are asking why so many are outraged now, when thousands of people are killed daily in conflicts the world over.

In the aftermath of the attack, several realities have become clear. Taking history into account, three things will undoubtedly occur in response to the terror attacks in Paris.

Yet More War

The world is plagued by war, and following the Paris attacks, there is about to be a lot more of it. French President Francois Hollande quickly declared Friday’s terror attacks acts of war, making it clear through his actions over the weekend what the answer to those acts will be: bombs — and a lot of them.

France carried out over 100 airstrikes in Syria on Sunday, with many more sure to come in Hollande’s “pitiless war” against those responsible for the attacks. France has already been involved with the civil war in Syria, fighting alongside the U.S. At the same time, it has stuck to the West’s talking point that Assad must be deposed for there to be a political solution to the conflict.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the U.S. is gearing up to exploit the attacks in Paris by calling for more military intervention in Syria. First it was politicians, then the establishment media who called for a more direct response from the United States — up to and including a full-scale invasion of Syria.

President Obama has already stymied such calls for a full-scale military operation in Syria, ruling out a ground invasion. “It’s best that we don’t shoot first and aim later,” he said. The president continued:

“We play into the ISIL narrative when we act as if they are a state and we use routine military tactics that are designed to fight a state that is attacking another state. That’s not what’s going on here.”

While this rhetoric is rather rational, it’s hard to believe the president will stick to his words, especially considering he proclaimed the U.S. would not deploy boots on the ground in Syria at least 16 times — only to do just that months later.

As Anti-Media noted earlier today, Sunday’s entire Democratic presidential debate was intentionally shifted to focus on foreign policy and anti-terror measures — and the candidates responded with forcefully hawkish rhetoric (with the exception of Bernie Sanders).

The information that seems to be missing from the entire conversation is that it was forceful foreign policy, accelerated by George W. Bush and continued by President Obama, that is directly responsible for the rise of ISIS in the first place. The short-sighted rhetoric political figures and media pundits are now spouting is highly reminiscent of post-9/11 fervor — and could lead to more of the same foreign policy blunders made in the years following 2001.

Islamophobia, Xenophobia, and Anti-Immigrant Sentiment

When an Islamic terrorist group attacks, the masses are quick to indict the entire religion — and the right-wing media is always there to fuel the flames of distrust and fear. The fact of the matter is that only a tiny minority of people who identify as Muslim commit terrorist acts. The likelihood of white Europeans and Americans alike committing an act of terror is exponentially greater than that of Islamic extremists (cops in the U.S. kill exponentially more than both of these groups combined).

Distrust of Muslims has been growing in France for several years, and the Paris attacks have only served to amplify this xenophobia. Rallies for peace and solidarity in Paris over the weekend were interrupted by anti-Muslim protesters shouting, “throw out Islamists!”

The “Jungle” refugee camp in Calais, France, which largely houses Muslims fleeing the war-torn Middle East, caught fire on Friday night. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, anti-immigrant groups in France took to social media to applaud the fire’s destruction.

In the United States, many media outlets are fear mongering with anti-immigrant propaganda, and right-wing politicians are feeding right into it. At least half a dozen Republican governors have already announced plans to resist the settlement of Syrian refugees in their states in the wake of the Paris terror attacks. However, many people on social media are countering the fear mongering:

Loss of Liberties in France and at Home

The immediate response to the terror attacks in France was one of blatant militarism. As Anti-Media reported earlier today, the French government has deployed 10,000 troops to patrol the streets of France. President Francois Hollande announced his intention to extend the state of emergency for another three months, and a curfew has been enacted in Paris for the first time since WWII. These actions make a state of near-martial law a reality for Parisians. The French government also ordered 150 raids across the country against suspected terrorists, placing 104 people under house arrest.

In the long-term, the French can expect to see their liberties eroded as their government continues to replace freedom with security, much like the U.S. did following 9/11 (see: Patriot Act). Prior to Friday’s attacks, the French government had already banned some forms of free speech and established an extensive surveillance apparatus, but further amplifications of these intrusions are likely to follow. Militarized police, “stop and frisk”-style tactics, and loss of privacy are all on the menu as the French government capitalizes on this tragedy to increase its control over the public.

In the U.S., calls to increase already intrusive surveillance of the public have already begun. Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, said, “I think we need to restore the metadata program, which was part of the Patriot Act.” Though the bulk collection of the metadata of U.S. citizens was ruled unconstitutional last week by District Court Judge Richard Leon, CIA director John Brennan echoed Bush-era sentiments: speaking to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Brennan claimed that in the wake of the Paris attacks, the U.S. should roll back recent reforms made to protect the privacy of Americans from the NSA’s surveillance dragnet.

While the world mourns the deaths of the innocent people who fell victim to the terror attacks in France, Western governments are busy making plans to wage further war and to reduce the freedoms of the very people victimized by the attacks in the first place. Meanwhile, misled patriots everywhere are clamoring to express their nationalistic fervor, bashing and attacking the very refugees their own governments created through foreign policy riddled with hubris.

"France is selling lots of jets to Qatar.  Who are they gonna' use them against again?"

son, these are French jets.  you don't really use them, they do look all kinds of purty.  More for the show.  If set up by the French, they can carry deux Mk-83 each, on a good day.  If the French are teaching them aerial tactics, then they might graduate all the way up to "un Strike Charlie" and actually drop more than deux Mk-83s on a single mission.

You miss the point.

France cancelled a contract with Russia for ships (kowtowing to US pressure) and instead sells planes to Qatar to bomb Syria. Besides, it's not like Qatari pilots are top guns.

Yeah right...lol..."the right wing media" like the NYT's & RT one is led to believe.

And the "likelihood" that "Europeans and Americans" will start committing acts of terror only grows "exponentially" with every new Muslim terrorist attack.

Thank you!!! One of the few rational comments on this pos article.   Ask the people of the council houses, or those thrown into chaos courtesy of this pack of low IQ inbreds whether the media is too anti islamic or not. 75% on some form of dole, in France incarceration rate, 76 % are of muslim persuasion, 32% native born white French. In Sweden rape rate has surged 1400% ...80% according to national crime data are Muslim. Then tell me this is ""fear porn"" YES, nmwn, the author of this article IS progressive prick. While correct on the who the creator of ISIS is, does not negate this bunch is a drain on the entire system, being used by the PTB to bring the West down to replace with that NWO everyone keeps talking about. Bang on, the media are apologists for Islam, always telling us that the latest jihadi atrocity is not due to the real Islam.

Well it does, the people massacred in the theatre were all unbelievers, they were engaged in sinful acts and the Quran gives blessing to those who murdered them.  Tough cheese, the mainstream media want to push the fairy tale that if we do nothing and ignore it the problem will just go away, well, with a sop to the "must do something" brigade by bombing some people in a far away country, yet more wasted taxes.

Zero hedge is supposed to be part of the alternative media, not beholden to try and brainwash the masses to all think the same way, apologising for Islam when the evidence before us shows it is Islam doing all of this just shows ignorance, sticking your head in the sand doesn't solve the economies problems, nor do it solve cultural problems.

Croc i'm sure you're right about that.  But if ytou're a rational person looking at this timeline since 9/11, how could you believe that blowing the hell out of Syria, or Libya, or Iraq is NOT going to keep them moving elsewhere?...

Lot of news feeds for the last three weeks have been stating that the Russian and Iranian successes were going so well that Syrians were attempting the trek "home"...  Now thanks to the contrived emotional PR stunt in Paris that probably will not be the case, and that's exactly what NATO wanted by "pulling it" last Friday!

Now they will be unable to return home and will face incarceration or worse as their final reward or solution as it were for seeking refuge in the very same places that made blowing up their homes a reality!

Likewise: "Our thoughts and prayers" are with the people of France and blah blah; in a secular world? To whom do they pray? Satan at best. They don't and the thoughts are about what one believes about the overall circumstance; again more B.S..

There is but one group who goes against human nature and have all people in their hearts and pray routinely for a dying world, but that is the most hated group by the "thoughts and prayer" people both secular and Muslim, the true Christian, the few among those who defile Christianity, such as Roman Catholicism.

Washington will use the French terror attacks to further their plan for a USA dominated globalization drive. Corporate dictatorship over civilian governments world wide, with a Washington based military machine enforcing globalized world power across the board.

The majority of people must be shut up and controlled, low wages and hard work must be enforced, while welath transfer continues. The revolution from above, the revolt of the elites took place over 30 years ago, but only now has the revolution won the civil war for globalization and repression.

The terrorists are a tool in the Washington globalization toolbox. Allowing Terrorists to be used to destroy globalization unfriendly nations, while the odd terror attack against the 1 st world allows a police state to be imposed at home.

If terrorism did not exist, Washington DC would have to invent it!

However the debt based phony capitalism, stealing from the future to live today, that won't survive because it needs endless growth, its been dying since 2008, my guess is that it was probably the oil spike and I believe it was caused by peak oil problems, that mortally wounded it.

Yes, that may be true, but a huge percentage of the so-called 'moderate' peaceful Muslims support the jihadis...

Even a tiny minority of "1%" of Muslims worldwide translates to 15 million believers - which is hardly an insignificant number.

Look at all the polls of Muslims: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/opinion-polls.htm

World Public Opinion: 61% of Egyptians approve of attacks on Americans
32% of Indonesians approve of attacks on Americans
41% of Pakistanis approve of attacks on Americans
38% of Moroccans approve of attacks on Americans
83% of Palestinians approve of some or most groups that attack Americans (only 14% oppose)
62% of Jordanians approve of some or most groups that attack Americans (21% oppose)
42% of Turks approve of some or most groups that attack Americans (45% oppose)
A minority of Muslims disagreed entirely with terror attacks on Americans:
(Egypt 34%; Indonesia 45%; Pakistan 33%)
About half of those opposed to attacking Americans were sympathetic with al-Qaeda’s attitude toward the U.S.

And if you polled Christians, similar proportions would approve of genocide upon Muslims.

It's in the Abrahamic genetic code.  See Elaine Pagels' The Origin of Satan for specifics about how ancient Judaism was expressed mainly by violent sectarianism, which it bequeathed to its offspring.

The fundamental problem is that Judaism was always a theocracy.  Thus all power flowed from and all politics had to be linked to religious squabbling.  And major differences in power among the members of a society leads to VIOLENT squabbling over that power.  In theocracies, however, it is couched in terms of arguments over whether the Father and the Son are "one substance" or a "similar substance", and whether it's idolatry to pray in front of a statue of Christ, or whether people should be tossed in jail for working on the Holy Sabbath . . .  or whether women should be stoned for appearing in public without a black robe covering them from head to foot.

The solution is to make all Abrahamic religion about as illegal as growing pot for personal use -- not an indictable offense unless you start ranting about it in public, but strictly forbidden for candidates for public office and not to be shared with, let alone imposed upon, minors.  And complete trade exclusion for all non-secular states, with Saudi Arabia #1 on that list. At the very least, such a move would suddenly lead to all the jihadis of EVERY sect becoming very best buddies against the Evil Secular World. But since so many of them don't believe in Science, they'd be hard  pressed to field either a world-class military or industrial base.

A better way to put that may be:  a huge percentage of the so-called 'moderate' peaceful Muslims support the jihadis which have been funded and created by intelligence angencies in the West.

Now in addition to their creation and armament there has no doubt been an incredibly large and expensive propaganda campaign launched simultaneously with these operations which would undoubtably target civilian populations for recruitment purposes and otherwise, no?

So maybe we should stop funding this propaganda that is radicalizing so that we can see what the organic situation may actually look like.  It may be a good idea to stop bombing innocent populations as well.

Can you point out a time when the Langley wasn't funding terrorists or "freedom fighters" of one variety or another?  I can't find a case going all the way back to even the Central and South American fiascos that doesn't reek of US involvement.

Maybe your right and the Muslims make bad neighbors, so thank God they are not our neighbors now lets get the hell out of there.  As long as we know that the US is funding ISIS there is absolutely no reason for us to be pretending to be fighting ourselves, dropping bombs that create terrorists, buying them weapons and propagandizing for terrorism.  This could lead to world war III so we probably should be sure how serious is the Jihadi problem is once you subtract our money, weapons and recruitment.

I usually would not have a problem with people saying that Muslims are inherently violent and different in those respects except for the fact that in this situation it is hyping up the justification for WWIII.  That's a problem.  Whether it is barrel bombs, or Muslims are all nutters etc. that is potentially the "yellow cake" of WWIII.

Can't have a "Patriot act" in France. No media politician here remembers this word. It was banned by ZATO supervisors, with all the sovereignty concept.

But since last year, we already had :

  • press liberty (free speech) moved from civil to penal infringement.
  • internet censorship without a judge.
  • mass administrative surveillance (internet black boxes, large phone tapping...)
  • attempt to enforce business secret law to prevent whistleblowers/press job.

LePen is a flag weaving puppet as she doesn't assert sovereignty is the first and foremost question.

For real politics, we have Popular Republican Union, with a better geopolitic vision, the only one pointing that a lot of France problems are related to the empire and its EU/NATO trap.

The real problem may actually be psychopaths.  If you get rid of religion they will use race or tribalism to manipulate people and meneuver into power.  They have always been there but in our current world they rise to the top.  Psychopaths haven't been properly dealt with, in the small tribal societies they were identified and killed or banished the second they started raping kids, trying to take out the chief or what have you.  They are a small percentage of the population that holds a disproportionately large percentage of power positions.  They are likely to be the reason why religions take on a violent rape and pillage bent.  There was a great study done on this subject that was written about in a book called political ponerology.

“Terroritis."

As I watch pundits across the political spectrum gnash teeth over moderate Islam, radical islam, blowback from Western interventionist policies, immigration policy, racism and homeland defense, it suddenly struck me.  In a short-lived post, I discarded the notion that the terror response was like a disease you could catch.

Oops.

Terrorism is indeed a disease.  Sadly, (and fortunately for all of you), I am neither a statistician nor an epidemiologist.  But, I suspect the FBI could benefit greatly from using CDC models for disease transmission to predict the “radicalization” rate, and subsequently track suspects based on their exposure to infectious material.

Infectious diseases have something called an r naught or R(0) value.  The R(0) is basically the number of additional cases an infected case will generate over the life of its infectious period.  Generally, if R(0) is less than one, the infection will die out over time.  If R(o) is greater than one, the infection will continue to spread.  The higher the number, the faster the infection will spread with subsequent impact on the health of the population.

The chart below shows the R(0) of some of the well known infectious diseases.  A high R(0) combined with highly virulent and lethal diseases is the stuff of Hollywood nightmare scenarios.

Values of R0 of well-known infectious diseases[1]

Disease    Transmission    R0

Measles    Airborne    12–18
Pertussis    Airborne droplet    12–17
Diphtheria    Saliva    6–7
Smallpox    Airborne droplet    5–7
Polio    Fecal-oral route    5–7
Rubella    Airborne droplet    5–7
Mumps    Airborne droplet    4–7
HIV/AIDS    Sexual contact    2–5
SARS    Airborne droplet    2–5[2]
Influenza
(1918 pandemic strain)    Airborne droplet    2–3[3]
Ebola
(2014 Ebola outbreak)    Bodily fluids    1.5-2.5

Let’s take the analogy a little further.  Some populations are more susceptible to a particular pathogen than are others.  Now, before we go further, let’s agree that no population is disease free.  But for our current thesis, we can make the empirical argument that “terroritis” in its modern form is more likely to be caught in a mosque than in a Baptist church, Timothy McVey notwithstanding.  With 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, that is a substantial population without natural immunity.

So where does this model take us?  First, it takes us away from endless arguments about moderate versus radical Islamics.  None are born carrying the terroritis pathogen.  Rather, at some point, they are exposed to it.  Once they are exposed, the (moral?) immune system can reject it, or an infection can take hold and begin to spread.   It can lie dormant like many diseases (HIV for example), only to emerge as full blown disease at some time in the future.

The disease model lends further understanding with regard to how pathogens are spread.  Anyone who works in a hospital knows about contact precautions, droplet precautions and air borne precautions.  Gloves and gown are required for the former, plus a surgical mask for droplet precautions.  Airborne precautions require an N95 mask.  Each level denotes an added risk of infection.

You may recall from the movie “Outbreak” there was great fear about the pathogen “going airborne”.  This was the nightmare scenario, because the R(0) value would jump precipitously, and the disease would spread worldwide.  Here is the essential question for our times:  “Can Terroritis go airborne?”

My opinion:  It already has.  We call it the Internet.  The internet is the metaphorical and practical equivalent of airborne as it relates to ideological pathogens.  The internet allows dissemination of disease pathogens without personal contact (meetings), or droplets (mail?).  Terroritis pathogens can be spread worldwide with the click of a mouse.

So, let’s close with a final question.  What is the R(0) of terroritis?  Is it greater than one?  If so, the disease will spread.  If not, it will die out.  We will know soon enough.

Buckle up.

Wed, 11/18/2015 - 01:15 | 6807857 . . . _ _ _ . . .
. . . _ _ _ . . .'s picture

What you are describing is a meme, not a disease; to take your example, though, the R value of terroritis is very low because our T-cells are our brains. Not many would forfeit their lives just to make a point, but when a government goes around infecting people with a virus while claiming it as a cure, and people start to demand vaccination, and try to convince others it works, that is where the illness propogates itself.

Terror, like religion, is an organizational phenomenon. It does not spread, it is foisted upon others by authority, whether that authority be a religious sect, peer pressure, a parliament, a dictator, or a cabal.

Most acts of terror are not sincere, they are sponsored by proxy.

Cancer is nearly ubiquitous, yet it is not contagious.

To people blaming refugees for attacks in Paris tonight. Do you not realise these are the people the refugees are trying to run away from..?

— Dan Holloway (@RFCdan)

Perfectly true but also when Islam, the religion of Peace, has proven to be anything but, and considering many in moderate Islam applauded 9/11 and other heinous acts, then why should the people of the USA or Europe take a chance?  No matter how remote?  You can't vet them, it has been admitted.  Why don't many of these "refugees" sign up to fight these assholes destroying their homeland?  I see many lines of refugees with plenty of men of fighting age fighting only to leave what they are losing.  They aren't in any recruitment lines looking for training and a chance to get some payback, instead they are lining up to come west.  Happy to let others take their place.  They are bringing their attitudes, religion of peace and are offering zero value outside of "needs" from the start.  They are offering a fair amount of risk and a non-desire to acclimate into their "new countries".  Many then want to change the "new" destination to what they are fleeing, once established.

"then why should the people of the USA or Europe take a chance? "

Sorry TAP but the people as ever have no choice because the anti democracy they live in doesn't allow them to vote as to whether or not to accept refugees. I have no idea what a referendum would reveal but I'm guessing a majority of people in most western countries would say no to importing mass refugees and their problems. But yes the guy has a point that it was NATO that caused the problems they're fleeing from.

Don't you get it, TAP

Why don't many of these "refugees" sign up to fight these assholes destroying their homeland?

WE ARE THE ASSHOLES DESTROYING THEIR HOMELAND.

The destruction we visited upon Iraq in 2003 is still going on 12 years later.

We did it to Libya.  It's still going on there.

And if you are aware of the history of the US, there should be no doubt in your mind we started the revolution in Syria to oust Assad from government.

So in a sense these terrorist refugees are fighting the assholes destroying their homeland by killing innocents in the countries that killed innocents in theirs.

Did so-called Christians destroy the other side like the English love to do?

Perhaps if the refugees had no where to go, they would stand their ground and fight.

The goal of the US/NATO (including France)/GCC war on Syria is regime change, using ISIS and related radical Islamic groups as a proxy force in this war. France has been funding/arming radical Islamic groups since at least 2012. See: www.moonofalabama.org/2015/11/terror-attacks-in-france-some-related-link...

It's times like these that make me thankful for my lack of belief. No one, however persuasive is going to convince me to blow myself up in the name of atheisim.

It is precisely this attitude among Americans, that no cause is worth dying for, that causes so Much misunderstanding about those who do, and ultimately will lead to Americas undoing.

Pretty simple... islam, not just "radical" islam, is a religion of hate and mass murder, also primitive tortures and punishments that would make Jack the Ripper hurl... their clear goal is to kill or convert all non-muzzys... don't believe that?  read their "scriptures", asshole!  So... kill them all fisrt.  Next, with the USA debt load, coupled with a collapsing economy (no matter what Obonzo's liar spew)... we can't afford any more immigrants, let alone all the Obongo freebies they will get.  DEPORT all muslims and illegals, and all Clintons, Bushs, Soeteros, Cheneys, the entire Federal reserve and IRS, all employees of the top 5 US bankers and the entire Congressional black caucus.  Hey, it is a start.

When the musloids write down westerners (infidels) need to get killed or beheaded, or women need beatings, it doesn't exist.  When a westerner writes it down, he loses his job, is castigated by the MSM, and likely pays a fine and does prison time.

France needs to make only one air strike against ISIS to make a nice big mushroom cloud over Raqqa. NUKE THE FUCKERS! As for the Muslims in Europe, it's needs to be open season on their asses. Allow the citizens to go into these neighborhoods and take out their vengeance on the Muslims. You see a Muslim on the street you have carte blanche to gun him down. Pretty soon you won't see any Muslims on the street or anywhere else. KILL THEM ALL!
