"It's Hot Out There" - Here's Why In One Visualization
"It's not just warm, but very warm," exclaims one east coast ski resort owner, adding "I can’t remember it ever being like this here." But why? As WSJ reports, two weather occurrences - the Arctic Oscillation and El Niño - are combining to shake up temperatures from coast to coast in the U.S., bringing springlike conditions to the Northeast for much of this month and leaving parts of the West colder and wetter than usual.
Typically this time of year, Arctic Oscillation would bring cold air to the Eastern U.S., bringing temperatures down. But so far this year, the oscillation has stayed much farther north, allowing warm air from the south to fill the void, said Mike Halpert, deputy director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s climate prediction center.
The other factor is El Niño, a periodic climate cycle in which sea surface temperatures over the eastern Pacific become warmer than usual. The effects from changes in Arctic Oscillations generally last only a few weeks, but the balmy weather in the Northeast could continue because of the El Niño effect, experts say.
El Niños push the subtropical and polar jet streams, which help define weather around the world, to the north. The result is that the southern U.S. gets rain that normally falls in Central and South America, while the Northeast and Midwest get a reprieve from winter as the polar jet stream is pushed up into Canada.
“If people are nervous, they should be nervous.”
The current El Niño is on track to rank among the top three strongest since record-keeping began in 1950, according to federal climatologists.
“The El Niño impact is not dominating yet,” said Bill Patzert, a climate scientist with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. “It’s like the tale of two climates here.
And since every failure of central planning to achieve its seasonally-adjusted economic targets must be blamed on something, even something as ridiculous as the weather, regardless if it is "too cold" like in the past two years, or "too hot", now we know why Q4 GDP will be crap!

Damn, I was going to say light it up with Benjamins, but your's made the point.
Read an article today that now says Liberals don't agree that climate is weather. Okkkkkkkkkkkkk
God contols the weather and we just need to deal with it.
God also controls same-sex marriage and ISIS, too, so I guess you just need to deal with those things, too.
Wow...Sounds like God spends alot of time on weather issues here on earth...does he spend any time on weather issues on other celestial bodies?
.If You Think Our Weather Is Crazy, Wait Until You See Storms On Other Planets
Looks like those HAARP stations' sh*t does stink.
Mother Nature trumps all.
I used to spend my winters in the mountains ...you know huntin game to feed my family...well the snow covered up all the tracks and I has a hell of a time tracking those critters down...no snow means I kill them quicker...my freezer chest is now full...so I have extra time for the family...guess what ...We are going to Disneyland this year!
pack lightly, Disneyland is getting hotter by the week. Plan for 120 degree days.
Huh?
Saturday Forecast Clear High 18C (64F) Low 7C (45F)
I always found snow helpful in finding tracks...but I do avoid blizzard hunting. Dry sand/Snow will give you a fresh track everytime.
I don't mind being able to golf in mid december while WW3 is going on. My snowboard will get used eventually, until then, 6 packs and golf carts it is. Kind of missing outdoor hockey though.
As usual no mention of the Sun's activity - by a mile the worlds greatest source of radiant heat and direct effect on climate. Next catastrophic hysteria issue please.
If we weren't suffering a permanent drought, it could have snowed here in San Diego the last couple of days. Temperatures 25 degrees below average.
So many of you Zerohedgers are surprisingly informed and intelligent people, but your inexplicable resistance to the data that makes the case for global warming renders you victims of yourselves. And while you will never prepare for the coming armageddon--due primarily to the migration of 100s of millions of desperate climate refugees, in fact, you don't need to: but your intransigence has surely fucked your children and grandchidren.
Lol! Nice try with your climate hysteria nonsense. First it was global warming and now it's global cooling lol! Temps in San Diego in the mid 60s this week inline with the Dec monthly average with showers expected by mid week. What is with you freaks? Hopefully your grandchildren won't be as dopey as you! And tell them not to be bull shitters like you to!
Hey gore-sucking dipshit. Start paying attention to solar observations and trends. It's the sun, stupid!
...and there's nothing we can do about, except the eliteswill brainwash you into self-loathing think you are causing it and tax the hell out of you. Most people will be able to be snookered into cheering for their own destruction.
Why? Most are lemmings and don't look for the truth themselves. They just blindly worship .gov.
No, go back to knobbing gore, the BS man.
I deprogrammed by thinking about the real benefits of Carbon Dioxide. Vested interests bury truth under a mountain of pseudoscientific bullshit, even believing it themselves in many cases, and breaking out takes time and effort, but when you finally hit bottom, you experience a moment of clarity in the observation that the global warming argument is fundamentally EMOTIVE and MANIPULATIVE, NOT SCIENTIFIC. It's a marketing campaign: environmental Al Qaeda.
An excellent description of the Heartland Institute...
You know, the same guys that claim smoking cigarettes is safe...
Your post lacks focus, but if you mean to criticize some particular group, you're "shooting the herald," and that's a fallacy. It has no bearing on the subject matter.
I thought you did an excellent job of descrbing the typical climate change denier...
Can't you even take a compliment?
Climates change. That's as trivially obvious as the fact that man-introduced variables affect local weather. Conversely, the AGW thesis is a huge power-concentrating, capital-misallocating enviro-false flag. The "greatest enemy of humanity" [sic] is not man; it's psychopaths.
when Cali has a drought, you beeech, when it rains what do you do? BEEECH even more.
That's 'cause we're fuckin' Beeech'in, Dude!
I have no argument with the data. Assume all data is correct, assume we have enough real data to make an intelligent assessment, assume it really is X degrees warmer, or colder, that is not the real question, or questions at hand.
Do you really think we are smart enough, and capable of knowing how to control temperature on this globe?
We don't have temperature records for the past 500 million years, or 4 billion years, but we do know that the earth has been through swings that include forests in the Arctic and snowball earth, all before humans released any appreciable carbon; long before humans even existed.
Do you think humans can keep the earth in some perfect, garden of Eden, temperature range? Or even the range we have learned to live with? Do you think this is a matter of our ability to set the thermostat on earth, forever?
Do you think humans engineered the current climatic state of the earth?
Which brings us to the politicians. At what price is the current mean temperature sustainable. How much do we bid for a 1 degree raise? Do you really think it's so simply that 1.5 trillion will guarantee stability, or will it be 10 trillion?
What makes you think politicians can buy a temperature range?
Politicians can guarantee nothing except that they will steal the largest amount of money from us and enslave as many as is possible without revolution. They are like the religions and priest of old, any scared tactic they can use to establish their godhood is acceptable. They know it and we know it.
Christianity has been replaced by pagan climate and environmental worship!
The government will be issuing a limited number of Rain Dance Medallions. Buy yours today; they will be worth millions. The fees you will be able to charge, as a licensed rain dancer, per rain dance will make you millionaires. People will pray for you to come to their town.
"Resistance to the data?" Dude, they cooked the data.
It's the sun you .gov worshiping dipshitz! I've been saying this for about the last 10 years. It seems only the very smart/observant can see it and are paying attention to the solar trends.
I remember the winter of 97-98 being very warm and mild. T-shit mud riding on the dirt bike in January. In Pittsburgh area!
I still have the pictures.
It's unusually warm in Fukushima.
That's because they're blessed with below floor radiant heating. It's built right in, like plumbing and mercury water taps.
Average seasonal temps have varied by less than 2 degrees over the past 150 years! I think one could say that temps have been quite stable unless you were a hysteric!
I suppose all that carbon dioxide is heating the ocean. Or maybe shifting the jet stream. The trace compound strikes again!
Hey Einstein, the earths atmosphere contains less than .05% carbon dioxide of which Man is responsible from creating a small fraction. Should the carbon dioxide level dip even slightly from current levels life on earth with cease to exist. It is a vital trace element in our complex atmosphere that makes this one of the few planets in our universe inhabitable! Unless of course your wunderkind Elon Musk who is gonna make Mars fit for humans because he can! All it will take is a US$50b grant or so from the tax payer! Man these climate bull shitters drive me nuts!
Some basic facts about CO2 concentrations:
CO2 in the atmosphere is under 400 ppm right now. Increased levels are needed for re-forestation and coral reefs to thrive and survive. You exhale 40,000 ppm CO2!!! You want to regulate how much people can exhale?
"You want to regulate how much people can exhale? "
Ecofiscal Canada does.
I put the question to them directly. I asked if all sources of carbon emissions (industrial and biological) are to be taxed and they answered yes.
ps_ This is the main argument for depopulation where environmentalism is concerned.
You didn't suggest a polonium enema at that point in the conversation, did you?
so the drought stricken west is getting rain and the southeast that suffered a 1000 year flood is drying out and peoele are complaining...
And your point is...
It would be a Godsend if global temperatures warmed from current levels but they probably won't anytime soon. Warmer temperatures would promote vegetation coverage, improved air quality and mostly importantly higher food production yields! At one point in history and before auto transport and prior to mechanical mechanization and industrialization temperatures were warmer and Greenland was indeed green and an incredible source of food and livestock farming. When temps cooled the people who stayed either froze or starved to death.
It may not be as dramatic or Doomsdayish as showing empty reservoirs, but can we please get an update on the water levels in CA and Lake Mead? Thx, TD.
The progressive tree hugging liberal visionary and galactically stupid Gov J Brown intentionally emptied most of California's important and strategic emergency fresh water reservoirs back into the ocean or into wildlife wet lands just prior to the drought because he thought it would be a great thing for species development. Now the people and critical farming community are totally fucked! And that supreme idiot and primo A-Hole continues to run the State! WTF is up with that?
I think, despite there being no data to support this theory, that freshwater has been seeping into the cracks left by fracking, thus draining natural basins.
Most fracking occurs 1000's of feet below key natural water table cisterns and reservoirs. All drilling is encased in cement. Any extraction is replaced with salt water. It has be done for over 50 years and appears to be relatively safe and effective.
Drill a hole in a mille-feuilles, water seeps.
Where do they get the salt-water? Do they truck it thousands of miles inland or do they make it with fresh water? That just doesn't seem plausible.
Despite its effectiveness, it certainly does not appear to be safe.
Global warming is here. Who do I send the carbon tax credit payment to?
To ME asap! Santas coming soon!
Researchers were paid by governments to dig up algae and check their cholesterol levels.
I really like this evidence of global warming. It turns out some algae dudes ate too many donuts. Their cholesterol counts were way to high, blood pressure was high, and they couldn’t get erections. Heart attacks and strokes may have been widespread.
Check out these excerpts from the article proving global warming.
“Summers on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard are now warmer than at any other time in the last 1,800 years,
The naturally driven Medieval Warm Period, from about 950 to 1250, has been a favorite time for people who deny evidence that humans are heating the planet with industrial greenhouse gases. But the climate reconstruction from Svalbard casts new doubt on that era’s reach, and undercuts skeptics who argue that current warming is also natural.
Researchers produced the 1,800 year climate record by analyzing levels of unsaturated fats in algae buried in the sediments of Kongressvatnet lake, in western Svalbard.”
I bet those researchers hope those government checks keep coming. They plan to follow the algae in a 26 year study and see how fats affect their metabolism. They plan a follow up book: “How my algae lost 30 pounds in 3 Months with a strict mineral diet”
Call today and get your algae weight loss program today! Call before the next 1 degree of warming and get a second copy free. Just pay additional processing and shipping.
Carbon taxes may apply in your area.
They should have counted the brown rings on their sphincters if they want more scientifically accurate data!
IIRC, el nino doesn't just bring warmer temps to the NE. It brings at least one major winter storm. The kind that shuts down airports for days.
Before 1970
The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot…. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers, he declared, all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone… Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts, which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. -Washington Post 11/2/1922
Scientist says Arctic ice will wipe out Canada, Professor Gregory of Yale University stated that "another world ice-epoch is due." He was the American representative to the Pan-Pacific Science Congress and warned that North America would disappear as far south as the Great Lakes, and huge parts of Asia and Europe would be "wiped out." –Chicago Tribune August 9, 1923
The discoveries of changes in the sun’s heat and southward advance of glaciers in recent years have given rise to the conjectures of the possible advent of a new ice age -Time Magazine 9/10/1923

Greenland’s polar climate has moderated so consistently that communities of hunters have evolved into fishing villages. Sea mammals, vanishing from the west coast, have been replaced by codfish and other fish species in the area’s southern waters. -New York Times August 29, 1954
After a week of discussions on the causes of climate change, an assembly of specialists from several continents seems to have reached unanimous agreement on only one point: it is getting colder. -New York Times – January 30, 1961
Like an outrigger canoe riding before a huge comber, the earth with its inhabitants is caught on the downslope of an immense climatic wave that is plunging us toward another Ice Age. -Los Angeles Times December 23, 1962
The battle to feed humanity is over. In the 1970s, the world will undergo famines. Hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now. – Paul Ehrlich – The Population Bomb (1968)
It is now pretty clearly agreed that the CO2 content [in the atmosphere] will rise 25% by 2000. This could increase the average temperature near the earth’s surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit. This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York. Goodbye Washington, for that matter. -Presidential adviser Daniel Moynihan, 1969 (later Sen. [D] from New York 1976-2000)
From the 70s
"Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half…." -Life Magazine, January 1970
"At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it’s only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable." -Kenneth Watt, Ecologist
"If present trends continue, the world will be … eleven degrees colder by the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age." -Kenneth E.F. Watt in "Earth Day," 1970.
"Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions….By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine." -Peter Gunter, professor, North Texas State University
"Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make. The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years." -Paul Ehrlich, Stanford University biologist 1970
"By…[1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s." -Paul Ehrlich, Stanford University biologist 1970

"By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people … If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000." -Paul Ehrlich, Speech at British Institute For Biology, September 1971
Arctic specialist Bernt Balchen says a general warming trend over the North Pole is melting the polar ice cap and may produce an ice-free Arctic Ocean by the year 2000. -Los Angles Times – May 16, 1972
From the 1980s
[In New York City by 2008] The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. And the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change. There will be more police cars. Why? Well, you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up… Under the greenhouse effect, extreme weather increases. Depending on where you are in terms of the hydrological cycle, you get more of whatever you’re prone to get. New York can get droughts, the droughts can get more severe and you’ll have signs in restaurants saying "Water by request only." -James Hansen testimony before Congress in June 1988
U.N. OFFICIAL PREDICTS DISASTER SAYS GREENHOUSE EFFECT COULD WIPE SOME NATIONS OFF MAP – entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of "eco-refugees," threatening political chaos, said Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program. He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect -Associated Press June 30, 1989

"(By) 1995, the greenhouse effect would be desolating the heartlands of North America and Eurasia with horrific drought, causing crop failures and food riots… "(By 1996) The Platte River of Nebraska would be dry, while a continent-wide black blizzard of prairie topsoil will stop traffic on interstates, strip paint from houses and shut down computers… "The Mexican police will round up illegal American migrants surging into Mexico seeking work as field hands". -Michael Oppenheimer, "Dead Heat" 1990
Giant sand dunes may turn Plains to desert – Huge sand dunes extending east from Colorado’s Front Range may be on the verge of breaking through the thin topsoil, transforming America’s rolling High Plains into a desert, new research suggests. The giant sand dunes discovered in NASA satellite photos are expected to re- emerge over the next 20 to 50 years, depending on how fast average temperatures rise from the suspected "greenhouse effect," scientists believe. -Denver Post April 18, 1990
By 2000, British and American oil will have diminished to a trickle……Ozone depletion and global warming threaten food shortages, but the wealthy North will enjoy a temporary reprieve by buying up the produce of the South. Unrest among the hungry and the ensuing political instability, will be contained by the North’s greater military might. A bleak future indeed, but an inevitable one unless we change the way we live…..At present rates of exploitation there may be no rainforest left in 10 years. If measures are not taken immediately, the greenhouse effect may be unstoppable in 12 to 15 years. -5000 Days to Save the Planet – Edward Goldsmith 1991
"It appears that we have a very good case for suggesting that the El Ninos are going to become more frequent, and they’re going to become more intense and in a few years, or a decade or so, we’ll go into a permanent El Nino. So instead of having cool water periods for a year or two, we’ll have El Nino upon El Nino, and that will become the norm. And you’ll have an El Nino, that instead of lasting 18 months, lasts 18 years," he said. -BBC November 7, 1997
From the 2000s
"But it does not take a scientist to size up the effects of snowless winters on the children too young to remember the record-setting blizzards of 1996. For them, the pleasures of sledding and snowball fights are as out-of-date as hoop-rolling, and the delight of a snow day off from school is unknown." -Dr. Michael Oppenheimer of the Environmental Defense Fund, New York Times – January 2000
Britain’s winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives. Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries. -Charles Onians -UK Independent Mar 20, 2000
Within a few years winter snowfall will become a very rare and exciting event. Children just aren’t going to know what snow is" -Dr David Viner, Senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia – Mar 20, 2000
Environmental refugees to top 50 million in 5 years –"There are well-founded fears that the number of people fleeing untenable environmental conditions may grow exponentially as the world experiences the effects of climate change and other phenomena," -UNU-EHS Director Janos Bogardi – United Nations University news release – 10/11/2005
Scientists in the US have presented one of the most dramatic forecasts yet for the disappearance of Arctic sea ice. Their latest modeling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years. Professor Wieslaw Maslowski told an American Geophysical Union meeting that previous projections had underestimated the processes now driving ice loss. "Our projection of 2013 for the removal of ice in summer is not accounting for the last two minima, in 2005 and 2007," the researcher from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, explained to the BBC. "So given that fact, you can argue that maybe our projection of 2013 is already too conservative." Professor Maslowski’s group, which includes co-workers at Nasa and the Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS), is well known for producing models that are in advance of other teams. -BBC Dec. 12, 2007
Arctic warming has become so dramatic that the North Pole may melt this summer (2008), report scientists studying the effects of climate change in the field. "We’re actually projecting this year that the North Pole may be free of ice for the first time [in history]," David Barber, of the University of Manitoba, told National Geographic News aboard the C.C.G.S. Amundsen, a Canadian research icebreaker. -National Geographic News June 20, 2008
"We’re seeing the reality of a lot of the North Pole starting to evaporate, and we could get to a tipping point. Because if it evaporates to a certain point – they have lanes now where ships can go that couldn’t ever sail through before. And if it gets to a point where it evaporates too much, there’s a lot of tundra that’s being held down by that ice cap… -Rep.(D) Henry Waxman, chair of House Energy and Commerce Committee, April 2009
Of course there is no land under the ice within 400+ miles of the north pole, and indeed the water there is about 13,000 feet deep. Mr. Waxman would seem frightfully ignorant for a man in his position. This was recorded during an interview with Tavis Smiley on his NPR TV show. Smiley is known to be very willing to assist Democrat causes, so it could be assumed that this quote could have been retracted before airing had Waxman made a timely request, or if Smiley himself had a clue how ignorant these statements were.
Give me a break.
Mr Waxman has been uncharacteristically quiet lately.
Uh oh, another infamous Arnold.

Nice post.ald
I wish this was my original post but it's from another ZH poster from February. I forget the name but yes it's a great summary of the bullshit.
Excellent summary of the persistent stream of bullshit the media has annoyingly fed us over the decades mostly in an attempt to sell more newspapers! It's incredibly disconcerting and disappointing that our enlightened and uber intelligent generation still buys this nonsense and drivel!
Ehrlich is as good as Gartman.
LOL. That's what you get for reading newspapers and political activists on scientific subjects. You want the real shit, you have to educate yourself and read the journals.
Wake up. HAARP is not make believe. The man who controls the skies controls the world.
I'm assuming HAARP is a USG-run operation. So if the USG is planning on controlling the world with HAARP, why is it targetting the US weather? Isn't thaat like shooting oneself in the foot? Why not send all this bad weather to those 'evil' Russians? Your logic just doesn't hold.
Yeah BAby! HAARP and CHEMTRAILS FTW!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZT2J9mfQ54
If there is one beef I have with the ZH community it is the topic of climate change. Climate IS (and always has) been changing, but every time there is some strange wheather in the US, people here go nuts over it and it is either proof that climate warming is a scam (when its cold) or ignored (when its warm) when objectively short term weather has NO MEANING in climatic terms whatsoever. ZERO. Now, it is my PROFESSIONAL opinion that climate IN CENTRAL EUROPE has been warming over the last century as a) about 98% of the glaciers in the alps ARE SHRINKING, some of them drastically (go look up that factoid, or have these glaciers been HAARPED for 100 years too ?) and b) there are very reliable vegetation surveys going back decades that show that plant communities have been rising in altitude by about 10 meters per decade. Whether or not these undeniable FACTS are due to rising CO2 or other "climate sensitive gases" is a completely different question. There may be a partial causation in that correlation, there may be not. Global climate has a lot of angles to it (and the myopic "warmer weather is good for plants and crops" argument certainly does not hold - go ask the cotton farmers in southeastern Australia). I certainly oppose carbon taxes because of that unclear causation. However, finding sustainable energy sources (oil and gas are not) will become an urgent need at some point in the future. But that is just my 2 cents. Now rant on ya'll and down-vote as you please (as sign of your ignorance).
You omitted to state whether the climate change that you claim is happening is caused by mankind or mother nature.
Which is it?
It's a combination. Overall the planet has been warming since the end of the last Ice Age with periods of stronger warming and cooling. The anthropogenic component, CO2 emissions, has played a role since 1950 but that role, once thought to be strong, is turning out to be quite weak. A doubling of CO2 will not result in a 4-8ºC temperature catastrophe but will bring about a more managable 1-2ºC increase.
All unproven carbon-tax extorting quackery by money hungry socialists!
Yeah, it's fluff. There are real reasons for allowing FREE MARKETS to reward those who CHOOSE to invest in SOME alternative energy, not least of which being mature oil and gas geology, but "AGW" is not among them.
Withouout significant DIRECT tax payer subsidies no current alternative energy investments either economically viable or sustainable! Unless the government is ploughing tons of your cash into them AVOID them all. They are worthless in today's competitive energy market. The peak oil issue is highly debatable also. At last count it appears the globe has at least 500 years of economic resource readily available. The climate hysteria debate/movement is nothing more than a counter-productive US$2 trillion tax levy and steaming pile of horseshit by money hungry socialists and their like!
I can vouch personally for the validity of the peak oil argument on a local and regional basis, as I work directly with data from a very mature formation in Western Canada. The aggregate depletion curve for fields and pools that have been exploited historically (past hundred years) is incontrovertible. However, there are very significant formations at greater depth and in comparatively new regions that offer significant potential. That does not invalidate concern for the future of cities and towns and whole regions that have depended on the proverbial "low hanging fruit" for past historical prosperity, and that is why America and its proxies have a reputation for poking around and attempting to install puppet regimes in other relatively oil-rich jurisdictions around the world (among other things).
I understand the comparative economics of alternative energy. Those who suggest otherwise haven't done the math.
First comes the slump; then the supply shock; then the really tremendous changes that threaten to unravel the social fabric.
The battle over affordable supplies of various forms of energy has indeed been epic. Some say it is the greatest curse for a poor country to discover oil! Let's hope u are wrong about rapid depletion rates and hope for new and improved forms of technology that will assistant the industry. Currently the world appears to be awash in O&G . Let's hope it stays that way for a long time to come!
Western Canada as you know sits upon a wonderful multi-billion barrel oil sands project and has devised ingenious engineering extraction techniques to deliver the resource safely and economically. Do not listen to any environmental hysteric who suggests fossil fuels and the 1000s of key & critical by- products are replaceable in any alternative form! It is beyond bullshit!
So, the human contribution to climate change is trivial, meaningless and can be ignored. I agree with that.
That said, I strongly support any sensible efforts we take to clean up our environment, including better garbage solutions, reduced pollution and a bunch of other things which would make peoples' lives better.
It's too bad that the whole issue has been hijacked by filthy scum known as politicians, the lefty-green-lobby (which is where most of the climatologists reside) and assorted big.gov crowd who want to use climate change as justification for directing and controlling our lives. These venal people hate motor cars because they give an individual freedom which is anathema to their socialist big.gov beliefs.
The atmospheric CO2 levels have more than doubled since pre-inustrial times. THAT is man-made due to the burning of fossil fuels (FACT). Whether this is responsible for any putative "climate warming" is up for scientific debate. All I was saying was that in some areas there is clear evidence for a warming in the last 100 or so years. I did not say that this is global, nor did I say this is due to the rise in CO2. Should we go back to 1600 ppm CO2 in the air, then the last time we had this much C02 in the atmosphere was when dinosaurs still walked the earth (and it was some 10 or so degrees Celsius warmer back then, globally, that is).
If anybody wants to understand how weather and climate have changed over 4.6 billion years, long before mankind arrived and measured CO2 levels, consider how the Middle East is virtually a huge lake of oil (or at least it was). Oil obviously doesn't come from sand.
That fact alone tells me that Earth's climate has been changing for billions of years, historically far more violently than we see today, and it has nothing to do with mankind, AGW or CO2.
PROFESSIONAL opinion? We prefer double blind backed tested true scientific fact - if it actually exists anymore! Weather is and always has been variable! Glaciers have advanced and receded since the beginning of time and well before man's so-called influence. Recent glacier hysteria data has all proven to be rigged and fudged - as most other climate nonsense has! There are 1000s of factors which influence climate. GLOBAL temperatures (not just European?) have been incredibly stable and cyclical for the past two centuries. Rising or elevated CO2 levels have never proven to influence climate variability by any credible scientist other than self-interested social scientists. We have been fortunate do to be blessed with what appears to be limitless amounts of fossil fuels and their 1000s of key and important by-products which have raised the worlds standard and ease of living significantly. The only meaningful consideration is at which price can this miraculous energy and resource be consistently delivered.
FACT 95% of all CO2 emitted into the atmosphere comes from the earth itself. man is responsible for 5%. FACT... CO2 is a necessary plant NUTRIENT required for photosynthesis. This is plant biology 101... CO2 is the target because TPTB want to CONTROL that which causes man made CO2 emissions "fossil fuels". Climate change is due to natural cycles NOT CO2...
Right on bro!
Plus the critical trace element CO2 makes up a whopping .04% of the earths atmosphere. Oxygen makes up over 20%.
Should C02 levels drop appreciably from current levels life on this planet will cease to exist! Al Gore in his $10m beachfront home included!
The Marxists /Socialist have always envied the weath and power of the energy industry. It has been a long standing goal of theirs to control it and manipulate it towards their own avarice and selfish ends!
All unbonded (elemental) pure oxygen in this planet's atmosphere has been created/excreted by PLANTS. Without plants, there would be nothing to breathe BUT carbon dioxide. PLANTS have created the world we evolved to live on. If we kill the PLANTS (mostly TREES but also PLANKTON), we kill ourselves. Ya'll intentionally suicidal, or just damned stupid?
FACT: CO2 is the only source of Oxygen we have on this planet.
Uh, noooooooo . . . .
That is like the central banker argument - 2% inflation target is "price stability". 98% of the debt already exists and thus it really makes no difference...
Higher CO2 levels also lead to (ecologically) long-lasting effects (e.g. ocean acidification and changes in plant communities and plant physiology) irrespective of any climatic changes.
Think you still live on a ball..?

Flat earthers are there to make creationists look positively sane.
Im afraid of the warm weather., Im not going out to shop this year and Im sure many people feel the same way
I <3 El Nino... but it was 24* this morning here in Gods Country in the Appalachian Mt's. Get to work, El.
There are not any actions humans can take to affect climate change. It is all a cover for pilfering and governmental control through fear mongering and fallacy.
If all the horrific outcomes happen, we deal with it or become dinosaurs.....which is going to happen anyway.
This is not fatalistic thinking. It is reality. I support doing things "better"....cleaner....more efficient....more consistent with hygiene....personal, industrial and
governmental. If you really want global warming to stop, shut up all those yapping politicians and bureaucrats so they quiet spewing their CO2 into the atmosphere.
Eliminate war and war mongerers. What an insane, destructive waste we impose on each other AND the planet. Leaving my point so my post is complete.

Central Planning Master Excuse List for An Underperforming Economy
1. Weather related
1.1 Too hot
1.2 Too cold
1.3 Too wet
1.4 Too dry
1.5 ?
2. ?
Does this have anything to do with changing weather patterns?\
The magnetic north pole is always slowly moving and is currently heading towards Russia from its current position in far northern Canada. The magnetic north pole moves by around 64 km (40 miles) a year because of changes within the Earth’s core (unlike the true north pole which moves very slowly due to tectonic plate movements). It has moved from extremes of around 10 degrees east in the late 16th century to 25 degrees west early in the 19th century, and is now at around 3 degrees west. The north and south magnetic poles can also switch places, and this last happened about 780,000 years ago.

Let's hope not cause we are 'F'd' if it is!
How much does true north move, and relative to exactly what??
It's called WEATHER douchebags WEATHER. Some winters the weather is mild, some winters are cold as fuck. Just two years ago, we had a horribly cold winter, far below average with record lows multiple days for months. That's what WEATHER does, WEATHER CHANGES. In 2007-2008 we had the same thing we have now. I remember surf fishing in a T-Shirt in January.
And by the way, if you bother to GOOGLE CLIMATE DEFINITION, you will see that climate and weather are synonyms, and the first three words of the definition of climate are THE WEATHER CONDITIONS.
In short since climate and weather are synonyms, and we know the weather changes, it is only rational to expect that the climate will change too.....
Playing semantics is probably the most craven of arguments...
Aside from outright lying that is...
Okay, maybe the climate is changing. It's changed before. The smarter breeds of mankind have found ways to adapt. If you live in a high-IQ country, climate change is the least of your worries.
My advice? Secure the high-IQ world's borders and let natural selection do its job. The low-IQ breeds of mankind are guzzling what little water they have, turning their fields into salt pans, and generally digging their own graves. As long as they don't come here begging when they finish fouling their own nests, I can live with that.
More hurricanes? Bring it on. Katrina did what no human government dared do to clean up NOLA and turn it around---drive the feral African scum of the Ninth Ward before her, never to return. She was probably the best thing to happen to the city in decades.
Goldilocks economy = if it's too cold, ppl won't shop; if it's too warm, ppl won't shop; only if the weather is JUST RIGHT will the ppl shop
This is a good thing. The less snow and ice on the Eastern Seaboard, the less energy will be used, the cheaper oil and gas will remain, and the fewer people will die in accidents. If people want to ski go out West.
Remains of croccodiles are being found in Siberia.
Crocs are tropical coldblooded animals........
