I got one pair of shoes per year growing up.
I used to walk around barefoot in the summer.
I grew up when there were no ATMs. A microwave oven was a luxury. There were actual lines at the Banks...which closed for business at Three in the afternoon.
Hell there were no video games. There were not any personal computers. If the folks were laid off then we'd actually go hungry.
There was no Cable TeeVee. There were twelve channels of shit programming on the TeeVee to choose from.
It was not easy. But we had it easier than my folk's generation.

One time my friend and I took a hike. Well I took one thin Bologna Sandwich....for the day.

I had found some fishing line and hooks over at Mission Dam. That half sandwich turned into BAIT.
There were some ponds with toolies on the way back. We baited the hooks and I caught Nine Sunfish and my friend caught Three...within ten minutes.
Gutted 'em, cleaned 'em, and cooked them upon TIN BEER CANS...not Aluminum.
Man that was good eatin'....sharing that food.
Them were the good ol' days.
Now they virtually fish on those video games. They haven't a clue on how to make do with nothing.

Humans studying humans is a short, shorting the brain into self-obsession due to experimentation bias, bias confirmation as science, which is about as dumb as it gets, paying people to see what you want them to see with their own debt, to build time duration ghettos. The law simply protects and serves the law, with stupid human behavior as the output, feeding more of the same. Social science promotes the middle class to ignore nature and adopt increasingly absurd rule-based compliance, in a positive feedback loop.
History is always the same sh-show. Capital pays labor to build a temporary bridge to the 'promise land' as defined by capital. Then capital builds a middle class to cut off labor's abutment, and cuts off its own, leaving the middle class stranded. So stranded, the middle class consumes itself, from the bottom up, calling the bottom labor, as it was taught by capital. In the current iteration, robots are capital's latest salvation, which makes absolutely no economic sense, except to the ivory tower talking heads.
For generations now, public education, paying itself in primary debt, has been taking the smart kids not controlled by the master-slave linkage and placing them in the dumb kids class, defining the process as equality. Obviously, there are several problem-solutions with this method. Smart kids aren't stupid and the kids defined as dumb by the system aren't necessarily dumb. The result is like the inverse of prison, smart teaching smart to get smarter, and dumb getting dumber accordingly.
The problem-solution of Liberty is its definition. Most view it as liberation - from nature, from government, from marriage, from whatever, including their own sex, all of which are counter-productive, a poor foundation getting the majority exactly nowhere, faster and at higher cost. And capital is just smart enough to supply the money, so long as the participants choose real estate inflation, capital control, with small-minded dictators everywhere, feeding small-minded dictators centrally.
The American Dream is to be slumlord to the world, with an increasing share for the level of participant compliance. The only problem with this little scheme is that the military backing it up was corrupted long ago, and the rest of the world has already seen this sh-show, many times. At least Russia is pretending to pay its bills, has plenty of energy, and has drawn a dumbed-down America into its sandbox, not that there is any real difference between governments other than timing in the boom/bust cycle.
People aren't being replaced by current technology because the technology is SMART. People are being replaced because they have chosen to dumb themselves down faster than the technology. Their jobs are just too stupid to exist, and the technology closing them out cannot withstand natural variability, because it's built on the same stupid assumption, a bipolar short-circuit.
AI is not rocket science once you get yourself on the other side of the mirror. You have sensors gathering data for a memory match, which is a time and location frame of reference, subject to gravity spacetime relativity, which is analyzed to reduce constants with abstraction into functions and a remainder, which is the unknown, fed back into the loop, creating a negative feedback loop in a conscious human being. Not only are robots far more expensive on the front end, but if you think about it, they are also far more expensive to feed, clothe and house.
Instead of chasing legacy capital, turn around and walk right through that mirror, the earlier the better. That brain in your head is an antenna, with as many dimensions as you care to build. The 'error' was populating the dc channels with humans, and having them chase the machines isn't any brighter.
Politics is a popularity contest, voted upon by those who want it to be a popularity contest. Just because you cannot physically see a sensor doesn't mean that one isn't there, or that you cannot cultivate one. In AI, you are far better off reinventing the wheel.
If you walk onto a job with more potential than the existing pool, you can expect others to gang up against you, to make your job harder, with pleasantries; that's what the ivory tower economists do. But if you think about it, they are doing you a favor. Unless you want to be popular, the least common denominator multiplied by an increasingly redundant population, politics is neither a skill nor a higher calling.
Defining a government that cannot go bankrupt, printing and buying its own digital paper to maintain demand, through incorporation for the purpose, doesn't make it viable. Only you can do that, by discounting accordingly. The central banks just translated the interest differential axis, changing nothing.
They can deny you tools, licenses, certifications, an apprenticeship, whatever, but they have to be brain-dead to do it. Knock on another door. Build a clock with separate speeds as your interrupt mechanism.

Kind of on-topic, a few observations and thoughts on the multi-pronged fomentation of "anti-civility" and discord.
My wife and I went to Star Wars for some time out last weekend. The movie was simplistic (of course) but a step up from the old stuff. But to the point: there were two Marvel comic related previews with a very disturbing commonality of theme: one was Batman vs Superman! and other was about a sort of civil war among the League of Heros (or whatever the fuck it's called). It really struck me. I don't believe this is accidental and I don't believe it is responsive either.
During Obama's campaign there were two movies with blatant propaganda inserts: one was "Milk" where Sean Penn playing Harvey Milk, the assassinated gay activist San Francisco Supervisor says: "You've to to give 'em HOPE." Another was a movie with Angelina Jolie where she played a mother whose son was kidnapped. There was a point in the move where she, almost shrilly, yells out the word "HOPE."

Cant speak to Abrams take on SW but in fairness the Marvel movies you refer to stem from storylines in DC and Marvel Universe from quite some time ago and seem to follow from the earlier movies (avengers/superman returns or whatever the 2nd reboot was)

I spent the weekend at a family gathering, chock full of "conservatives" who whined the entire damn weekend about the War on Christmas, and how they were the victims, endless victims, of the never-ending liberal assault on their senses known as "political correctness." So, we did the traditional thing, and kept Christ in Christmas:
We sang songs about a Flying Reindeer with a Shiny Nose, a Snowman that won't melt, and a dead tree hauled inside and covered with lights; we watched Snoopy decorate his dog house and win the award, and a Green Grinch who tried to fool Whoville; we had gallons of Christmas cheer; we put inflatable penguins in the front yard; we even chortled once again over Dean Martin's creepy, pervy attempt to keep a girl from leaving the house before he doinked her.
It does not end there! We joked endlessly about the omniscient fat guy in a strange red suit who was gonna either reward or punish us (in direct contravention of the doctrine of grace!) for our behavior; we stuffed our faces in a gluttonous frenzy; we obsessed over the college football playoffs; and we watched Bill Murray cavort with ghosts in his version of the Dickens story. Then we exchanged expensive, useless gifts. Ah yes...I am sure that the very heart of Jesus was warmed to new life as He observed the merriment!
BUT! I was resoundly and completely put in my place for one single utterance of "Happy Holidays!" even though that term has been around for decades, and actually refers to the entire holiday period, from Thanksgiving to Little Christmas (look it up, right wing assholes). Also, isn't "holidays" supposed to mean "holy days" anyway? Damn, just no pleasing some folks. Apparently, I was not meeting their definition of political correctness...I guess that knife cuts both ways.
See, the real problem is not political correctness. It is the inherent flaw in Conservatives that they think they have some God-given right to tell others what to do. NO! We must have a traditional Christmas! And OUR traditions, not any others! Except...Christmas, in case you missed this bit of news, has been around for a couple of millenia, and perhaps the short-lived, post-WW II traditions that seem so damn important are just a blip on the radar. Somehow, Christmas did just fine and made it through until today without the American way for most of its existence.

Very arguably they might have been better of holding on to more of the old gods then they have. Probably the basics of what the druids of Gaul and Elsewhere believed was quite similar to that of lots of other places. But very little of that was preserved. There are no genuine Druids left, and Wicca seems to be a product of a 3rd hand post Celtic Revival understanding of what a few scholars and poets imagined. "the White Goddess" is a deeply fascinating read but it is mostly speculation and fabrication. But so what, Wiccans don't go around demanding others do as they say.
A lot of the stuff out there about pagan origins, celtic/Gaelic ones especially are either wrong or otherwise assume an attitude that 'pagan' is bad while the dogmatic, Abrahamic faiths are good, essentially because they're normative in the west.
But arguably the world was a better place when people assumed the local gods just went by different names rather than assuming (and only *assuming*) that those of different faiths (or ethnicities, etc) were not only wrong but 'evil.'
