"Trump Voters Are Not Just Angry - They Want Revenge"

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Frank Lutz, originally posted at The FT,

Outraged by what Donald Trump says? You are not alone. No high-polling presidential candidate in the modern era has so intrepidly drawn the ire of so many within the American electorate. And there remains no end in sight.

Yet in rendering one voting bloc utterly apoplectic, he has appealed viscerally to another. The balance of middle ground politics is not, shall we say, Mr Trump’s bailiwick. But America is no longer a middle ground country. We are already scared by our division — and it is getting worse.

The simple truth is, the more provocative his language, the deeper and more passionate his support. He is no dummy; there is a method to his proverbial madness. Mr Trump says — to the growing legions who will listen — what tens of millions of Americans are already thinking. Respect or revile him, the man has hit a vein.

I spent three hours in a deep dialogue focus group with 29 Trump supporters. The phenomenon of “The Donald” is rooted in a psyche far deeper and more consequential than next November’s presidential election. His support denotes an abiding distrust in — and disrespect for — the governing elite. These individuals do not like being told by Washington or Wall Street what is best for them, do not like the direction America is headed in, and disdain President Barack Obama and his (perceived) circle of self-righteous, tone-deaf governing partisans.

Trump voters are not just angry — they want revenge.

Mr Trump has adroitly filled the vacuum of vitriol, establishing himself as the bold, brash, take-no-prisoners megaphone for the frustrated masses. They see him as the antidote to all that Mr Obama has made wrong with America. So to understand why millions love Mr Trump so much, you have to take a step back and listen to why they hate Mr Obama so much.

Here, my Trump voter focus group was particularly illuminating. Some still believe the president is not Christian. Many believe he does not love America. And just about all of them think he does not reflect the values the country was built upon. Indeed, within this growing faction, Mr Trump has licence to say just about anything. As we have seen repeatedly, the more outrageous the accusation, the more receptive the ear.

Mr Trump delights in unleashing harsh attacks on Jeb Bush, the Republican establishment and the “mainstream media”. His childlike joy in ridiculing his critics is tantamount to healing balm for the millions who have felt silenced, ignored and even scorned by the governing and media elite for so long. Is it any wonder that his declaration of war against “political correctness” is his most potent and predictable applause line?

Straight-talking candidates are nothing new in American politics. From Ross Perot in 1992 to John McCain in 2000, from Howard Dean in 2004 to Sarah Palin in 2008, they rise like a rocket on the fuel of their seemingly fresh and unencumbered aversion to traditional politics. They purport to say what they mean and mean what they say — bucking established electoral trends and ruffling established political feathers. Then they crash. The media turn sour. The message grows stale. The electorate gets bored.

Mr Trump is different. The media attacks on him have been fast and furious. Yet he has defied electoral gravity because the blows are delivered by an institution that is distrusted and an elite political and business establishment that is detested.

Meanwhile, voters consistently tell pollsters like me that negative attacks do not work; they hate the ad hominem assaults. Mr Trump? He dines out on them. As his devotees see it, it is not Mr Trump going negative. It is him telling the truth. And when he fights back, he’s throwing punches on their behalf. He said something outrageous? “He’s simply raising an important issue nobody else has the courage to talk about.” He insulted someone? “That’s just him campaigning. He won’t do that as president.” He changed his position? “That was a long time ago. Everyone’s entitled to change their mind.” He doesn’t have many policy specifics? “He doesn’t need them. He’ll surround himself with smart people.” They will justify any action, explain away any contradiction, and dismiss any criticism because they are so personally and passionately invested in him.

And here is the prediction that will furrow brows on both sides of the Atlantic. Mr Trump’s supporters today will be Mr Trump’s supporters next November if he is still a candidate — no matter what party banner he runs under. Half will follow him out of the Republican Party if he breaks his promise and declares as an independent. For better or worse, his supporters will follow him to the ends of the Earth — or to the White House. Whichever comes first.

Trump can not fix the economy....no one can(ww3 may fix it).  He has brought a lot of issues up for discussion that otherwise wouldn't be heard.  Think about what all the candidates would be talking about if Trump wasn't running.  There are going to be terrorist attacks in this country.  That's in the bank.  Hopefully we don't wind up in ww3.  I don't want revenge.....I want the train put back on the track (assuming that's possible at this point).  Every group in the USA that can abuse their power is doing so.  I'm sure Trump won't do a perfect job but look at the rest that are running.  Assuming Trump gets elected there is still a do nothing congress and a court system that is a world disgrace.  Another platform plank Trump should use is no one should be able to hold office more than two four years then they have to go back to the private sector...then you would have a democracy.

The people with psychological problems aren't the Trump supporters. The people who need to have their heads examined are the donkeys and circus elephants who promote Bush and Obama to the highest office in the land, so that after attacks by religous fanatics they can lecture America about how their religion is "a religion of peace." So that they can double the national debt every two terms. So that they can wrack up unfunded liabilities which guarantee a collapse of the very nanny state they are building. So that they can answer the underclass's pandemic criminality by subsidizing it in the name of race. So that they can insulate their cronies from any and all exposure to the free market while stamping the practice "capitalism."

My analysis, admitedly amateur, is that they are at best sociopathic -- many being actually psychopathic -- and severely delusional. Among which delusions, the delusion of grandure that government, in general, and government specifically when they are the ones running it, can bring about a perfect world.

Nuts.

Not always.  The jew seems to have lost it's control upon Russia.

The Russian people, via Putin and his crew, have a precarious hold over their own country, but it is a hold nonetheless.

Real Americans may one day regain control over our own country, but we will have to pry it from their cold, dead hands, and the blood of a lot of patriots may have to be spilled in the process.  Those prospects seem bleak, but regaining our country one day is a possibility.

True Americans (i.e. The Country Party) are fed up w/ the ruling/polical class, esp. with the fact that they're using our hard-earned tax dollars to forward their elitist, "smarter-than-thou" agendas.  We've been "Grubered" too many times.  You think?  The Democrats and the Republicans are one in the same; both from the oligarchy/aristocracy/progressive/leftist party.  The party of crony capitalism.  Of course Americans want real "hope and change".  It's a matter of survival.  Otherwise it's life as usual in the neofeudal 21st century (i.e. serfdom).  Remember that 1) conservative Americans still outnumber the dufus left by 2:1 and 2) We pay the majority of the taxes that fund their political machine and so control the purse strings in spite of the allegedly GOP(RINO)-led House.  Trump is not beholden to any progressive agenda, at least currently.  Most real Americans realize this, hence his popularity as a candidate.

America’s Ruling Class — And the Perils of Revolution
The only serious opposition to this arrogant Ruling Party is coming not from feckless Republicans but from what might be called the Country Party -- and its vision is revolutionary. Our special Summer Issue cover story.
By Angelo M. Codevilla – From the July 2010 - August 2010 issue

Important as they are, our political divisions are the iceberg's tip. When pollsters ask the American people whether they are likely to vote Republican or Democrat in the next presidential election, Republicans win growing pluralities. But whenever pollsters add the preferences "undecided," "none of the above," or "tea party," these win handily, the Democrats come in second, and the Republicans trail far behind. That is because while most of the voters who call themselves Democrats say that Democratic officials represent them well, only a fourth of the voters who identify themselves as Republicans tell pollsters that Republican officeholders represent them well. Hence officeholders, Democrats and Republicans, gladden the hearts of some one-third of the electorate -- most Democratic voters, plus a few Republicans. This means that Democratic politicians are the ruling class's prime legitimate representatives and that because Republican politicians are supported by only a fourth of their voters while the rest vote for them reluctantly, most are aspirants for a junior role in the ruling class. In short, the ruling class has a party, the Democrats. But some two-thirds of Americans -- a few Democratic voters, most Republican voters, and all independents -- lack a vehicle in electoral politics.

The Agenda: Power

Our ruling class's agenda is power for itself. While it stakes its claim through intellectual-moral pretense, it holds power by one of the oldest and most prosaic of means: patronage and promises thereof. Like left-wing parties always and everywhere, it is a "machine," that is, based on providing tangible rewards to its members. Such parties often provide rank-and-file activists with modest livelihoods and enhance mightily the upper levels' wealth. Because this is so, whatever else such parties might accomplish, they must feed the machine by transferring money or jobs or privileges -- civic as well as economic -- to the party's clients, directly or indirectly. This, incidentally, is close to Aristotle's view of democracy. Hence our ruling class's standard approach to any and all matters, its solution to any and all problems, is to increase the power of the government -- meaning of those who run it, meaning themselves, to profit those who pay with political support for privileged jobs, contracts, etc. Hence more power for the ruling class has been our ruling class's solution not just for economic downturns and social ills but also for hurricanes and tornadoes, global cooling and global warming. A priori, one might wonder whether enriching and empowering individuals of a certain kind can make Americans kinder and gentler, much less control the weather. But there can be no doubt that such power and money makes Americans ever more dependent on those who wield it.

That's right, normal people still outnumber the elitists by about 99.9%.  The fact they spend so much time trying to make the rest of us feel like freaks in our own country should tell you what they are up to.  Their divide and conquer strategy needs to fail here, because this is America.  America is evolutionary and must not be snuffed out.  This would turn back the clock on progress and sending us into global feudalism.

Great article, and great foresight seeing how long ago it was written. From the standpoint of a lifetime being lived during this period, events seem agonizingly slow. But from a perspective of history working itself out, of which Trump's candidacy is a quite logical phenomena along the way, events are moving fast. Set to move faster still once the equity markets crumple. And when the cities start burning, faster still....

In the 2012 election the owners of the Republican party showed they would break all of their own rules in order to give zero votes to a candidate they didn't like, and exclude him from attending their national convention.  In some instances the local party douchebags refused to be voted out of the state committee leadership, packed up the voting machines, and called police on the people who wanted to replace them.  And this is the law-and-order and follow-the-rules-young-man party.

This should be an amusing election.  These wannabe powermongers spend their whole lives doing shit that they know is wrong and living in fear of the consequences, while pretending to be better than the rest of us, more pure of heart and assholier than thou.  Nothing is more satisfying than watching assholes like these get their comeuppance.

I think the bottom line is that people think he can't be any worse than what the establishment will put up. If he goes nazi on everyone he is just doing it a few administrations before the establishment and probably the only reason they hate him is they have the dominoes all set up and he could start them falling

and that is the worst case scenario. The upside from there is worth the gamble. At this point people have nothing to lose. He may be a Napoleon but it sure beats going back to the internationalist traitor royalty they have running the country now

and then there's the Hillary voters.  Amazing...

"So how does he reconcile this attitude with the fact that the heavy favorite for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 is his occasional golfing buddy Donald Trump? He grants that Trump is running on "hate" but adds, "There's absolutely nothing I can do. There are some other people that aren't as open about what he's saying that are running also, you know, that are just as crazy, that have just as much ill-will toward the common man — and not just the common black man. People who don't have a certain amount of money don't mean anything to them."

He's already made up his mind about his own vote in 2016: "I'm forever a Democrat, you know, and I'm gonna vote for Hillary. I mean, I love Bernie — Bernie's a man of the people — but he can't win. So I gotta cast my vote for a person that can keep those other people from winning, okay? Not to mention, you know, Hillary kinda knows the job, she can hit the ground running."

its so much nonsense posted here on zero hedge

but enough is enough

i can no longer tolerate your sticky slow behavour toward jews in israel

we all know that israel is an american state

most jews in israel speak english, its only on camera they try speak hebrew so their parents and chefs dont get angry at them

the jews in israel who cant speak english speak russian. russian is the second official language of israel. thats a fact!

i dont know why people are against israel even through all of your parents and grantparent wanted a state of isreal.

you cant change your mind every two days on something

today you hate israel tomorrow you love israel then you hate it again....

i have to come to the conclusin many readers here on zh are infected with bi-polar disorder.

even countries like turkey, and turkey is mulim cuntry, are friend with isreal and jews

maybe many people dont like israel because they never were to isreal

i never was in israel either, but i know that israel is one of the best places to be in, if want to see how people lived 2000 years back.

i assume most of you are just uneducated about jews. that can be dangerous. just remember what happend to post war nazi-germany.

they stole all the russian amber-room and now they all driving mercedes benz. it is just unfair towards israel because in isreal no one is driving mercedes benz. instead they have to use this ugly toyotas the were forced to buy from turkey

look at how friendly isreal is! it even bought up turkeys toyotas when turkey was in need.

thats why we need to be friend with isael

many people say that the vote is rigged, gal gadot should be rank 1   not 2

i too belive that the korean woman "nana" just bribed them and bought the first rank with money!

Here is a more serious article about Trump from Russian observers:

http://katehon.com/article/donald-trump-realist

an excerpt:

How did Donald Trump manage to become a realist? This is not the right question. The question, really, is why did the classical realist approach become marginal in the American political elite? Realism is based on common sense and a pragmatic, rational, and modernist vision of human nature. It is natural for anybody who has a power. If Trump’s argument is deemed to be eccentric, it means that there are problems with the consciousness of the American establishment and filled with myths and liberal dogmas… or it means America is ruled by somebody else, who represent another group, but not the US.

The basic distinction that marks realist political thought is not the moral dichotomy between good and evil, but a Schmittean distinction between friend and enemy. Evil Empires have no place on the realist map. A former foe can easily become an ally and vice-versa. The approach presumes that for any state there are no eternal friends and enemies, roles can change; only interests are more or less permanent. This approach that seems to be so tough is in fact more flexible then narrow-minded American liberal exceptionalism.

Donald Trump can bring to American foreign policy more tolerance and understanding of other powers, more openness to the outside world. The return from the policy of proliferation of democracy to good ol' power politics can make the world more stable. At least the US might behave more responsibly on the international stage

Justice is what people wanted after 2008. They got nothing...not a single prosecution, not even a token.

TPTB forgot a crucial rule. You HAVE to provide SOME sacrifice after a major boner like the financial crisis. You simply cannot DO something on that scale and expect to just slide away, with NOBODY going down...One of you guys had to take one for the team...that's the rule.

TPTB screwed up, and now, the people want revenge...fuck justice. It's been too long, no one cares about the 'rule of law' anymore, they can take their law and shove it, it's worthless.

When people finally take to the streets, it won't be the courtroom they demand for their oppressors. It will be the rope.

Understand, that Trump is not a phenomenon unto itself. There is a faction within the Pentagon, that is gaining power, and its boy is [at least, appears to be] -- Trump ..

A close examination suggests that the BCC is using the CMMM to leak disparaging information that will weaken the hold of the Dual Citizen Zios on the Pentagon. But it also seems evident that the Zios are using the CMMM to leak disparaging facts that will discredit the Bush Crime Cabal and Jeb’s chances for election to the Presidency. Right now Donald Trump is a wild card, no one seems to have a grasp what he would do as President as far as the Pentagon and warfare. But some suspect that he is the Pentagon’s America-firster’s choice to represent their interests. It is too soon to tell but we will find out soon enough.

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2015/11/10/divided-loyalties-inside-the-pen...

Now it behooves us all to tune in into this America-firster's faction apparently growing in power and influence in the high reaches of our present known govt.

There are numerous Intel insiders and true Patriot “Intel Cowboys — White Hats”, members of the High Military Command and many others who are working to restore the American Dollar to what it should rightfully be, real true Constitutional money, backed by Gold and other commodities. This coming major World Financial Reset should more realistically be called a World Monetary “Restart” or “Re-grouping” rather than “Reset.”

The final result of all this is likely to be a major Restart and Re-grouping of monetary and credit policy inside America and a restoration of Constitutional Currency without offshore, City of London controlled foreign invaders disguised as bankers. As long as cooler heads prevail and prevent the World Zionist invaders and hijackers of America from starting a nuclear WW3, a major new war in the Mideast or the Ukraine, or Homeland Security from provoking a major Civil War inside America, it looks like Americans will see a return of the real USDollar, real United States Constitutional Money.

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/07/30/the-coming-return-of-the-real-us...

So it does appear to have a beginning with these Intel Cowboys. People not necessarily from America, or not Americans. Why would they care about America, and the future of it? Why would Trump be their boy? Who else right now? Perhaps it was Perot at one time, and the operation was a failure. Or was it? Is Perot still possibly active, working behind the scenes? Could Trump be actually Perot's idea? His suggestion. Could Reagan had something to do with this back then? Perot was definitely part of Reagan's plan when he was alive. Lee Wanta will confirm that much to you ..

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2012/05/11/the-intel-cowboys/

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/12/20/very-very-bad-things/

And you think it just an interesting coincidence that Trump is Putin's boy? That is, they appear to like each other. Putin, the former GRU Lt. Col. The former Vice Premier under Gorbachev. Very much a part of the inception of the Russian Federation brokered between the remnants of the USSR and the USA, under Reagan's agent -- Lee Wanta. I propose along with Wanta, Putin is one of these Intel Cowboys ..

So, you think the purported Trump voter is up in arms? You think they are more PISSED than the Intel Cowboy?

it is all about anger with the Political elite, such as the vacuuming up of all information about everybody simply for powers sake, even when it is known that such actions are an affront to the people and have not stopped a single terrorist attack, it is simply ignored and done anyhow, it is anger at the hundreds and hundreds of Billions that Washington has given to the Politically connected and filthy rich while strip mining the economy of anything of value.

It is rage at the knowledge that when it all topples over those who have completely destroyed the economy will be bailed out again, pay paltry fines and live happily ever after with their stolen Billions of dollars, nobody goes to jail, all they get is a pat on the back, it is rage at a mainstream media that has been bought and paid for many times over and has just become a mouth piece for the 1%. It is Fury that every other candidate other than Trump is simply a puppet for the corporations that control them, and lets not get started on the millions and millions of jobs that have been destroyed and sent to China so the corporate rich can amass even more wealth.

Trump is the modern Solon of Athens. He's whipping up the masses to force his way into the oligarchy.

You guys don't fucking get it. I don't really give a flying fuck about all that. The fucking demicans are handing Hillary the fucking crown like she's an anointed goddess. Show me another nominee in US history who felt as entitled to the thrown as that whore. FUCK HILLARY.

I don't really give a flying FUCK how many neocons and Zionists are on Trump's team. You know why? Trump's making promises to the wrong fucking crowd at the wrong time in history. The candidate who promises to stop funding Israel is the candidate who gets Ron Pauled or Ross Peroted. The Zionists have an unbreakable hold on the US political system that only a military man can convincingly break. And where are those fucking traitors? All cashing in at Xi or consulting for the MIC.

So go ahead and do whatever you think you have to do. Go throw your vote for that fucking cunt Hillary and her scumbag husband. You might want to consider spending more time on Huffpo and rubbing elbows with your LGBTXQZ tribe mates, muslim lovers, H-1B apologists and La Raza.

FUCK THEM.

This post seems to imply that Donald Trump is not a part of the business "establishment". Maybe the weed I scored today was too good because I'm having an extremely difficult time wrapping my mind around that one. What if this is all just theater and the deep state wants Trump to lead America for the next Great War? I predict the anti-establishment, libertarianism will be as fleeing as the hope and change. Don't jump fully on this bandwagon without thinking it through.

There is certainly anger against the Ryan-O budget deal but there is also a simmering anger that the establishment Republicans are letting all of Hillary's atrocities 'slide' by -- with Trump as the only real hope to bring them up in the campaign.

It'd be interesting to see which percentage of ex-Perot Voters are gunning for Mr. Trump.   Had Mr. Perot won, we would have kept more jobs In-Country, pulled out of Iraq early, and (going out on a limb here), probably would have sent honest people (instead of the IMF Monetarists who were enacting the Wolfowitz Doctine of their Day) to help out Russia during its transition from the Soviet Economic System.

No more NATO, bring home more Troops, lease out/store heavy Military Gear with the Friendlies, Offshore Oil/NatGas Drilling in CONUS, more Nuke Plants/Solar Farms, and 'Murica Energy Sufficient, with 'Muricans workers providing most/all of its energy requirements.  Probably reduce the H-1b Program and IT Offshoring incentives, too.

PetroDollar or not, we probably could have been self sufficient enough to weather it, other countries would have wanted the USD for its Value instead of it being the "only PetroToken in Town", and we as a Country would be investing heavily on Trade Deals that help others help themselves.

Allow me my Fantasies; but this is something that some of us expect a Washington Outsider would try to accomplish, instead of playing some FUBAR'd Game of RISK to take over the World and keep many in ruin just to keep control and collect interest and rent.

Stupid people learn nothing from history.  The Lenin/Bolshevik example should serve to warn Trump (and other candidates) supporters about jumping from the frying pan into the fire. The ONLY real choice one has in this coming elect a Congressperson that is NOT a sociopath and that they only get ONE term.  Their representative should also be allowed to resign honorably after one full session of Congress due to the stink and the slime encounted in Washington D.C., which is many times worse than the smog in China.  If that can't be done, violence will be the only answer.  God (any of them) help us if it comes to that.

I say burn them all to the ground, leave not a one standing. A complete wipe out of all legislators not just the three branches, but all states branches as well, as total overhaul. Just like we did with the carriers every few years. Strip them down to the core and start fresh.

What's not common knowledge? Read The Controversy of Zion by Douglass Reed, 1956 for a primer. Then there are the articles by Henry Ford, The International Jew written 35 years earlier. Then read The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, written circa 1907, but not translated and published in English until 1920 or so. Somebody also posted here on ZH a comprehensive set of reference material that traces back to the 1960s the start of the Jewish neocon movement. This is merely the tip of the iceberg of infinite facts to support the basic zio conspiracy to finish up on their NWO wet dream. This drive for NWO, which boils down to a centralized global government run by Jews, is the primary root of a lot of modern trouble. Each of my references have extensive bibliographies. Read them and we can talk later about there being no evidence.

well you live in a make believe world...the "Justice System" is bought and paid for....and so are the results you get. I live in the Midwest...a buddy of mine went to a party a few years back and ended up in a bathroom at his buddies house fucking some chick he meet there. A few hours later she is crying and saying her raped her...it turned into a FULL out fight for his life. He was looking at a extended term in prison...he went a hour away to a much bigger city and hired a VERY high profile Attorney to defend him. It went to trial...in the end he was found NOT guilty...BUT it was 2 years of hell, cost him 250k in legal fees and esentially destroyed his life....but he did NOT go to prison. The Prosecutor looked him right in the eye after it was all over and told him "you bought your way out of this"....YES he did Sir....yes he did.

Nice Piece on Ron Paul:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_WBo4sfmi4

Even the GOPee (mainly Romney) and the MSM Monkeys were stabbing him in the Back.  The GOP - and the DNC are FUBAR'd IMHO.  People are going to vote for Trump - because he can't be easily bought.  His daughter's affinity to Judaism may carry well, unless some race haters among the Jewish bait and taunt her away.  They may go easy on her, since she's a Dame - married to a Jewish Man.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Webb/Paul Presidential Ticket.  Both Vets. Both Experienced in Congress. Sen Webb has Cabinet Experience.

"This" is my Dream Ticket.  Not too late.  Add Ventura to the Cabinet somehow; and this may be our way out of this mess.

On the other hand, a Webb/Paul Ticket may be a way for the Southeast_USA or simply, Texas -  to Leave the Union; and start off afresh.  If I were staying in the USA, I'd probably hop on that Webb/Paul Ticket; but since I'm a Northern/Deep Ocean and Temperate Zone kind of Guy, I'll just salute and wish them well.
