Dow Futures Dump 300 Points From New Year's Eve Highs As China Crashes

Tyler Durden's picture

With China closing the morning session limit down, US equity futures are extending their losses (even though crude futures are holding some of their gains). The initial knee-jerk jump as crude rose on Saudi tensions has been entirely erased and Dow Futures are now down 300 points from New Year's Eve highs... Happy New Year.

China closed the morning session "not off the lows" with a bloodbath in ChiNext and Shenzhen...

With Offshore Yuan crashing over 440 pips - the most since the August deval...

And US futures are tumbling...

But bonds and bullion are bid...

It was that 35% tax the US whacked onto their solar panels.  Either that, or more restrictions on fireworks.  Something not cooking right.

Try Red Chinese version of Bubblenomics!  Massive overproduction, ghost cities, 7% growth per year for a decade regardless of small population growth.

We had a Black Monday in 2015 but everyone forgot because the PPT ramped so hard people could still use their pensions to buy coffee at Starbucks every morning.  The next Black Monday will not be lost on the mind of the average cup of Joe.

We all know the whole fiat ponzi is going to shit the bed some time.  We all know it will likely happen while the US is sleeping, still drunk from watching football all day.  People will clammer awake, make shitty coffee if they don't buy it from starbucks, yell at their kids, curse their lives, walk to their car - which they over pay for - smile at their nieghbors, and then bang their head against their cubicle for the next 9 hours only to do it all again.  All the while never saving any money because inflation runs at 10% per annum and they keep putting their money into stocks because 401ks are tax free.

One day the fuckers will wake up and have lost their stocks, bonds, dollars, and won't be able to pay their mortgage and car payments.  Oh and gold will be worth 20X what it is today and guess what?

NO ONE OWNS ANY GOLD.

Guess I have a case of the Mondays.

I have a little [gold and silver] myself ..

Actually, on top of that we all have a piece of 2000 metric tonnes in a Vienna vault. It originally belonged to the USSR ..

So, WE The People do have no less than 2000 metric tonnes bullion. That's around 90 billion, last I checked. Probably much higher now ..

ZHers tend to be pragmatists and realists, in most cases. I cannot understand, though, why so many want the crash to happen sooner, rather than later. This crash will, most likely, be life altering or life ending for many. This could be, really, bad.

I asked the local Stop and Shop manager what they intended to do if the crash happens. His answer was, "Call out the National Guard". They will not care that the sheep are starving.

JWR says 50% of Americans may not survive.

It's better a crash/recession happens sooner than later, so markets can get back on track faster vs market corruption, greed & manipulation during 2015 bleeding into 2016.  Also, it would be bad timing if the stock & housing bubble 2.0 popped alongside a (long time coming) dollar devaulation.  So the sooner Wall St gets it's wake up call, the better IMO for all of us (gold bugs or not).

A good % of folks here in ZH seem to think that the world's going to devolve into a wasteland where guns and tampons will rule, once the next recession or even depression hits.  That, to me, looks like wishful thinking from burn-outs who've already hit the economic skids and cast off their faith in humanity.  Innovation and wise investing hasn't died, it's only been drowned out by CB manipulation and those making risky bets to generate yield under ZIRP conditions.  In-fact it's obvious that there's huge sums of corporate & personal cash & gold stored up...ready to buy distressed securities and acquire companies once markets have returned to reality.  If  goverments would simply get the fuck out of our way, it would become clear that natural boom-bust cycles are healthy and that the private sector + citizens are the best form of stimulus & reward for those deserving of it.

You're close .. But, still ..

You need better information ..

Everyone thinks RESET! This entails a hard crash .... blah, blah, blah ..

We need to think more in terms of Restart ..

The FED and the IMF is not the only game in town. They do not control as much as they think they do ..

There are other forces at play ..

Crash means that things will change... Not that life will come to an end... Some of us believe the change that is coming as a result of the crash and what it will produce will be much better than the result that will happen if we continue down this same path for very much longer...

No one thinks the crash will be pain free. Most of us don't want to see others suffer. But almost all of us want a little vindication for calling a spade a spade and for warning others of the treacherous path we have been travelling down and for taking prudent actions while others have been frivolous with their words and their deeds...

If TPTB and PPT have any REAL ability to move the market, I think that E-mini = 2000 is the battle line, no?  We've reached it quite a bit before the open, and even before 7AM.   I think that a number of green candles up from here will tell the tale - as well as their absence. If we bounce along the bottom like Moby Dick, then everyone is waiting for some kind of leadership. If it's not there, then why does everyone believe that the FED et al move the markets at their whim? Surely we wouldn't see days like last Thursday and this AM, no?

I think that the real story includes the FED overnight rate and the shenanigans there; the liquidation of many hedge funds; and the absence of growth in the FED balance sheet which drives the IB games.
