Trump Vows To "Quickly Cut The Head Off Isis And Take Their Oil" In First TV Ad

Tyler Durden's picture

“The world is laughing at us, at our stupidity,” Donald trump told the Washington Post, in an interview on Sunday. “It’s got to stop. We’ve got to get smart fast — or else we won’t have a country.”

Those comments came as the GOP frontrunner gave the Post an exclusive look at his campaign’s first television spot, which is set to debut on Monday.

Trump has thus far run what one might call an “unconventional” campaign. While rivals spent millions on television ads only to see their poll numbers drop, Trump relied on... well, on being Trump. The bombastic billionaire’s fiery stump speech (which, while short on substance, lacks nothing when it comes to conviction) has resonated with large swaths of the American electorate that are fed up with business as usual inside the Beltway.

With his first ad, Trump is sticking with what’s worked. That is, he’s doubling down on the same controversial messages that have both surprised and captivated the political punditry who now exist in a perpetual state of shock thanks to the fact that Trump is rewriting the rules of what candidates can and should say on the campaign trail. Here’s WaPo with a description of the new spot:

Donald Trump’s ad begins with a shot of President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Then comes a U.S. battleship launching a cruise-missile strike. From there it moves swiftly through an explosive montage: The suspects in the recent California terrorist attack. Shadowy figures racing across the U.S.-Mexico border. Islamic State militants.

The narrator, a deep-voiced man, speaks ominously: “That’s why he’s calling for a temporary shutdown of Muslims entering the United States, until we can figure out what’s going on. He’ll quickly cut the head off ISIS and take their oil. And he’ll stop illegal immigration by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for.”

The spot closes with the image of Trump thundering at one of his rallies, “We will make America great again!”

"Trump has vowed to spend at least $2 million a week on the ads — an amount that will be amplified by the countless times they are likely to be played on cable news and across social media," WaPo continues, adding that "Trump has six to eight ads in production [which] he hopes will impress upon undecided voters that the country has become 'a dumping ground.'"

Notably, Trump is doubling down on the Muslim ban message just days after that very same message turned up in an al-Shabaab propaganda video. Of course that shouldn't surprise anyone. Trump isn't one to backtrack and hey, "if it aint broke..."

And yet even as short a spot as that described above reveals what certainly appears to be a lack of understanding when it comes to policy specifics. For instance, one cannot "take" Islamic State's oil. It isn't theirs for Trump to take. That oil belongs to Syria and Iraq. Additionally, Trump seems certain that Mexico will be willing to fund the construction of a giant border fence. It's not at all clear why he believes that.

In any event, if Trump's television spots are anything like his campaign trail rallies, we're in for some epic trolling of America's entrenched political aristocracy and also of the liberal media. We'll close with WaPo's amusing account of the moment when the final cut of the first ad was played in the candidate's 26th-floor suite at Trump Tower:

One afternoon last week in the candidate’s 26th-floor suite at Trump Tower here, the fiery depictions of global terrorism flickered on Trump’s face as he stared down at campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s laptop computer to watch the final cut of the ad.

“Play it again,” Trump told Lewandowski, nodding approvingly. “I love the feel of it.”

It's funny that a lot of people who believe the gov is too big, tyrannical, etc. mock or are derisive or what's going on there. The theory being that gov is too big and tyrannical and sets these things up to advance it's agenda. Therefore, any effort to resist should never be done because it's always a trick or trap.

I agree 100%. Politcs has been taken over and voters have no say. It bugs me to hear people warn against supporting any/all resistance efforts like Oregon because they're all setups staged by the gov.

That attitude takes resistance off the table and that's really all that's left.

correct the (indoctrinated) misconception that gravity is an inwardly attractive force to gravity is a compressive force from outside in, then one can clearly understand 'the system' cannot be changed from the inside.

That's Hillery's platform: 1) bigger gubmint; 2) more welfare handouts; and 3) higher taxes from the middle class to pay for her #1 and #2.

Look at her supporters: the FSA and gubmint unions and future Dems (illegals).

I agree. It isn't fixable. And electing a strongman type who promises to make everything great again has a familiar ring to it. As I recall, it hasn't workd out very well for the people there afterwards. Same with the "hope" thing.

And yes, that kind of commentary used to be the norm around here.

We never invaded Iraq with the goal of taking their oil or making them pay for the war.  That was a huge mistake.  We should be getting reimbursed for our expenses and especially caring for our military families.

LOL!  I thought it belonged to Israel, Turkey and the axis of terror in the region generally.  (Basically anyone that gets along well with the Jewish State or at least pretends to.)

"Belongs."

Who is Syria?  The majority of Jews (nationalists and "globalists") are currently seeking the destruction of Syria as a country and the dispersion of the Syrian nation/tribe/"goy" among the "goyim"/nations as refugees.

Notice the eventual union of their bloody rainbows of tolerance with their own nationalists, all in an attempt to destroy "Syria."

Yet here we are being informed that "Syria" owns oil? WHO IS SYRIA?  The refugees own that oil? Better tell them to go back and get it then. (???)

Instead of having Syrian refugees, perhaps it would be best to establish a welfare state and give them their petrodollars right there in Syria. Given that they're not only SYRIANS as a nation.  But they supposedly own oil too!  Lol.  They need more diversity, perhaps Bruce Jenner and the Jewish Left could teach them about it. Then they wouldn't even know who they are (Syrians???), let alone begin thinking that they own oil in their own country too.  (I thought the multicultural Rainbows Inc. owned the oil just like they do in the US, anyway.  They "own" something, as a people or nation/"goy".  LOL!)

ISIS only steals oil from Iraq and Syria.  It has no oil of its own.

That depends on which oil you refer to, the oil coming across the Turkish border, or the oil belonging to the parties hiding behind the stalking horse called ISIS.

semantics? hmm... have to think about that

"The world is laughing at us, at our stupidity,” Donald trump told the Washington Post, in an interview on Sunday. “It’s got to stop. We’ve got to get smart fast — or else we won’t have a country.”"

any explanation for this part? as a matter of fact I am part of this "rest of the World" and I do not complain about the US Foreign Policy... stupidity. Many other things come to mind, but stupidity is not among them, and I Am Not Laughing, I am more in the mood of crying

fact is that American Politics have changed. I remember when Americans looked as if they were keen on electing... how to explain... a Presidential President? And now they look as if they were neither keen, nor want any above-average skills for that job. They seem to want "A Somewhat Average Bloke Like Me, If Any". You know, like "Bush-the-guy-I-could-drink-a-beer-with"

and The Donald seemt to be topping that, with a kind of "I-Am-Stupid-As-You-Are, We-Have-To-Be-Smart", or something. very difficult to understand, from abroad as I am

does he have plans about his "Let's-Get-Smart-Together"?

not long ago I would have made sarcastic remarks for the use of that word, "globalist". now even the Financial Times uses it... as opposed to Nationalist

fair enough, I'd say. so it's Nationalist versus Globalist, previously known as Internationalist

one problem, though. Internationalists outside the US are somewhat correlated with Pacifists. in the US, more of the opposite

take the current issue with countries breaking diplomatic relationships with each other. generally speaking, it means possible war, which then spills over, blows in the faces of bystanders, and so on

again, differently: outside of the US, countries usually don't have the luxury of planning about becoming isolationists, have only diplomatic relationships with select countries, close all borders to nearly everything, and so on. consequences for every and each such action... abound, and are felt fast

meaning that this word "globalist" still means something different to US and non-US ears, depending on the theme, relation, policy, etc. etc.

take the British, for example. they are globalists... about food. literally, they don't grow enough of it on their isles. since the "globalist" Corn Laws

one consequence of those "globalist" Corn Laws: The Importance Of Being Ernest... about the British Navy

interesting definition, very thoughtful, +1   frankly... we don't have a term for that. we see treaties as integral part of our laws, through the ratification process

perhaps I have to explain here that we have a much longer and deeper tradition of treaties. our whole concept of sovereignty is originally based on the Westphalian_sovereignty, which is based on a treaty, the Peace of Westphalia

further, I would have to note that generally treaties are ratified here in the exact same manner and by the same bodies as any law, too, while in the US the process is different and involves the President and Senate way more, and Congress less
