This Is A Very Troubling Chart

Tyler Durden's picture

The chart below, showing the total number of monthly FBI firearm background checks - a direct proxy for gun purchases in the U.S., needs no commentary.

Here is the same data, on a monthly basis to avoid the seasonal noise. No matter how one looks at it though, the 3.3 million background checks in December was a record high.

Neither of these are the "troubling chart" referenced in the title. This one shown below is, and it comes courtesy of the NYT:

The chart shows that while the soaring gun sales are the effect, the cause is simple: president Obama.

The same president who tomorrow at 11:40am will finally reveal just what, after many delays, his executive action(s) on gun control will be.

The concern is that with one more year under Obama's term, gun sales over the next 12 months are certain to surge to new all time highs as Obama's crusade to crush the second amendment slowly picks up steam in order to cement his "anti-gun" legacy, and as the population rushes to buy as many as it can before Obama makes such purchases illegal.

It's not all bad news though: gun makers could not have asked for a better president, as the following headline just confirmed:

  • SMITH & WESSON SEES 3Q ADJ. EPS 39C-41C, SAW 27C-29C

As of this moment Smith and Wesson is trading at an all time high.

"Because visa's fall under the bureaucracy of the executive branch (State) which I administer...and...errr, ahhh, they are issuing K1 visa's to women from Saudi Arabia like crazy who wind up shooting people in San Bernandio and and and ahhh, errr...as all recent mass shooters having either stolen their guns, bought them legally after a full background check or through straw purchases (like Eric Holder was doing) and no mass shooting has been traced back to a gun show purchase and ahhh, errr, and basically because I haven't banned or infringed on the peoples rights since I left for Hawaii after saving the fucking planet...from...Paris (polite applause)...in at least week or so...I've signed an Executive Order to tighten up that damned Gun Show loophole which had nothing to do with anythng!" - O'Tard

Americans don't lack arms.  They lack the courage to use them.

A follow up on an article the author wrote several years ago. 2012.

"In a follow up piece to his post , Bob Owens writes:

What you’ll see in the rebellion:

The people have responded to these threats by not merely buying up the firearms, magazines, and ammunition that might be affected by these proposed bans as they did in 1993/94 before the Clinton-era ban was pushed through, but by purchasing nearly every firearm of military utility of the past 100+ years. Ruger 10/22s and other common .22LR rifles have doubled in price when they can be found at all. Inexpensive Mosin-Nagants, originally designed in 1891 and typically found by the dozen in your average neighborhood gun shops, are nowhere to be found, and their ammunition is gone as well. U.S. citizens are preparing for war against their government by the millions. Americans aren’t “going Galt” in response to the push by would-be elites to surging statism. We’re on the cusp of going Häyhä."

If guns are being bought by the likes of the Saudi government, that's OK.

If they are being bought by Joe Average it's a bad thing, apparently.

I the US government wants to get rid of guns, they should start by setting an example.

Many of these purchases are first-time gun owners, and they're buying pistols.  I don't have a problem with that, but I hope they don't think they're going to be some natural-born Pistolero Pete.

I can't hit a damn thing with a pistol.  I've tried many times with many different types. I have a place to shoot, and friends bring their pistols out.  I try, but I can't hold a pistol steady enough at arm's length to line up the rear sight with the front sight with the target.  Abysmal accuracy.  The only people I've seen who can consistently hit a target at any distance with a pistol are people who practice with it A LOT.

its, man or women? fbi found women needed a smaller hand gun to use it ..

learned in us army on 1911 - have my own (kimber custom) 1911, and from

viet nam to usa..that gun hits what I aim at..not at 100 yrds but 50 feet and in.

Man, shooting at 9" paper plates @ 20 yds.  I can't hit shit.

I'm older, so my visual depth-of-field is gone.  I need a scoped rifle or a shotgun.

its, need just a little support - your shooting stance for one, but i practice using walls and chairs and tables to steady my aim..one thing to shoot paper plates another thing when some bad guy is armed and shooting back..

get to cover and use that cover to fire from, standing up on a fire line is poor training for real world shooting..too many cops have learned the hard way and have been shot because they did not also use cover

one thing many off the shelf hand guns trigger pull is too strong, 4lbs max, whats your gun's trigger pull??.

The only pistol I own is muzzleloader that shoots 50 cal. round balls.  I'm no good with it, either.  I just try out my buddies' pistols when they bring them out.  Most of them are terrible shots also.  Two guys I know are really good with their pistols, but they practice all the time.

I've hunted rabbits for 40 years with a 16ga Wingmaster, 20" barrel (cylinder bore), #5 shot.  Home protection is not a problem.

well its, you are armed, good for you..your buddies might want to check the trigger pull on the hand guns..many have 10lb pulls which make them unshoot able, do they know to have that checked? help em out. it will make them alot safer shooters.

Works better if you start at 5 paces away, get proficient from there, then move out to 10 paces, then 15.

After that, use a shotgun or a rifle and you'll be amazed at how well your accuracy improves ;-)

If you want to be REALLY good with an auto handgun (semi automatic) then that's true.

Otherwise buy a revolver.

They only weigh ounces.  You can hold it at arms length if you just put the front sight post on the target and then shoot.  Don't hesitate.  Don't wait around with your hands up there, second-guessing your site alignment.  You'll just tire out your shoulders.

Shoot at this target.

If the bullets fall consistently into one of the quadrants of this target,  then google the text in that quadrant for the correction regime.

Simple as that.

Absolutely works.

Please stop using the words "Obama" and "President" jointly.  The Constitution does not allow illegal aliens to hold the office of President of the United States and soon it will be time to determine how to unwind 8 years of un-Constitutional laws under this guy as well as to determine how to dispose of him after his trial for High Treason.  I know some veterans from the Iraq war who have some very creative suggestions but I think the accepted method is hanging.

The only "troubling" part of the gun industry is that they make guns to sell to anyone....including the Saudis and Israel other rogue states the US backs.

I'm way more concerned with the state selling guns for profit to fund surveillance and police states and Wall St fuckery than I am a bunch of responsible gun owners who are going through the legal checks to exercise their 2nd Amendment right (as well as their God given right ot defend themselves).

BTW is Smith and Wesson hiring?

Troubling because 10 out of 100 of those 'Cowboys' use the gun against human beings. That#s somewhat troubling, maybe.

The gun crime rate isn't going up much.

In fact, in the areas where you're allowed to buy and own guns - meaning those depicted in the chart - the gun crime rate is flatter than a corpse's heart rate.

Well.

If this is troubling, then it is troubling only to those who intend to abuse those who are arming themselves.
