Germany In Shock After "Monstrous" Attacks, Rape By 1,000 Men "Of Arab Or North African Origin"
Yesterday, we were shocked to learn that as German anger boils over at the country's unprecedented refugee wave, one or more so far unknown assailants fired shots through the window at a home for asylum seekers in western Germany injuring one resident as he was sleeping. As AP noted it wasn't immediately clear who was responsible for the incident or what the motive was. However, Darmstadt prosecutors' spokeswoman Nina Reininger told news agency dpa: "If someone shoots at housing which has people inside, I assume that it is a targeted attack."

Today, we are just as shocked to read that, even as we expected, the animosities between the two groups have dramatically escalated, and that the mayor of Cologne has summoned police for crisis talks after nearly 100 women reported they were robbed, threatened or sexually molested at the New Year's celebrations outside the city's cathedral by young, mostly drunk, men, police said on Tuesday. One woman said she was raped.
According to BBC, "the scale of the attacks on women at the city's central railway station has shocked Germany." About 1,000 drunk and aggressive young men were involved.
The initial shock will quickly transform to furious anger, because more important in this specific case was the origin of the 1,000 drunk assailants, who split into groups, and attacked women in the square. Citing the police chief Wolfgang Albers, BBC notes that the men were of "Arab or North African region", adding that they were mostly between 18 and 35 years old. He added that the attack was a "completely new dimension of crime".
BBC adds that what is particularly disturbing is that the attacks appear to have been organised. Around 1,000 young men arrived in large groups, seemingly with the specific intention of carrying out attacks on women.
Fearing a public backlash, Cologne mayor Henriette Reker said there was no reason to believe that people involved in the attacks were refugees. Nonetheless, after a crisis meeting, she admitted the attacks were "monstrous" adding that "we cannot allow this to become a lawless area."
This, of course, puts her in a very precarious position if it is found that the attackers were indeed refugees.
Reker was stabbed in the neck and seriously hurt in October, just a day before she was elected mayor. Police said that attack appeared to be motivated by her support for refugees.

Integration commissioner Aydan Ozoguz, a self-proclaimed Muslim, likewise warned against refugees and foreigners being put under "blanket suspicion".
At this point it is too late for damage control, however, as this has become a case of guilty until proven innocent, especially since politicians involuntarily may be stirring the pot: "We will not accept the disgusting attacks on women. All perpetrators must be held to account," said Justice Minister Heiko Maas, a Social Democrat, in a tweet.
As Reuters adds, the attack has stirred "strong emotions in Germany where Chancellor Angela Merkel has welcomed people fleeing war zones in the Middle East and Africa."
The political reaction was immediate: the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), which has gained in polls in part at Merkel's expense thanks to a campaign against refugees, said she should close the border.
"Mrs Merkel, is Germany 'colourful and cosmopolitan' enough for you after the wave of crimes and sexual attacks?" tweeted AfD chief Frauke Petry.
Meanwhile, Germany's embattled prime minister urged people to respect strangers. Merkel said that "We .. respect everyone, even if we don't know them," she said. "That is the case not only for Germans, but for everyone."

Unfortunately for Merkel, it is now too late to contain the incipient, and increasingly more violent - and soon, lethal - conflict between growing sections of the local population and the country's refugees wave, because as Reuters further adds, and as we have noted repeatedly, there are almost daily attacks on refugee shelters.
"Events like that in Cologne foster xenophobia," Roland Schaefer, head of Germany's association of towns and localities, told reporters. Yes they do, and it was very obvious to everyone long before the recent break out of violence that when mixing two combustible cultures, these would be precisely the results.
Unless, of course, outcomes such as these were precisely what the otherwise very perceptive Merkel had in mind all along. Recall AIG's answer to "what Europe wants" back in May 2008:

As for the "monstrous" attack in Cologne, the local news website Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger says the suspects were already known to police because of frequent pickpocketing in and around Cologne central station. Police are trying to find out whether the men who targeted women on Thursday night, surrounding, molesting and robbing them, organized their assaults through social media. They are also studying mobile phone and CCTV surveillance videos.
For now, the local police are searching for the 1,000 assailants. The will be found, and if confirmed that the "monstrous" attackers were indeed recent refugees, the dramatically escalating conflict within German society is about to take a quantum jump into ever greater violence.

The Cologne police chief is wrong when he announces this is a "completely new dimension of crime." It's not only not new, it was entirely predictable. German law enforcement already knew there were chronic problems with rape and forced prostitution within the migrant camps themselves. Consider recent cases of "swarms of men" sexually assaulting Western women -- in the Middle East. Lara Logan. Also a young Dutch woman. Lara Logan's account sounds exactly like the account of one of the victims in Cologne:
"Before I even knew what was happening, I feel hands grabbing my breasts, grabbing my crotch, grabbing me from behind. It's not one person and it stops -- it's one person and another person and another person. I'm screaming, thinking if they hear me scream, they'll stop. ... And it was the opposite. A man recounts what happened to his partner and 15-year-old daugher on New Year's Eve:
"The attackers grabbed her and my partner's breasts and groped them between their legs."
Katja L., gave this account of her ordeal:
'When we came out of the station, we were very surprised by the group that met us there'. She said the group was 'exclusively young foreign men,' she told Der Express. 'We then walked through this group of men. There was an alley through [the men] which we walked through.'
She described the moment she 'felt a hand on my buttocks, then on my breasts, in the end'. 'I was groped everywhere. It was a nightmare. Although we shouted and beat them, the guys did not stop. I was desperate and think I was touched around 100 times in the 200 meters,' she said. 'Fortunately I wore a jacket and trousers. A skirt would probably have been torn away from me'.
Also consider that Lara Logan said the sexual violence was done with larger intent in mind: (after all it was local female protestors who were able to ring around Logan, in a protective stance.) Logan wasn't targeted just because she was a woman; she was singled out for other reasons.
Now a personal story. During the late 1970s, when I was a teenager, I lived for 4 years in Paris. It was the most cosmopolitan place you could imagine. My classmates and friends were from Kenya, Lebanon, Moscow, New York....Yet, it was universally acknowledged (casually) among all races/nationalities that there was a disturbing problem with significant numbers of male Algerian immigrants (enough of a problem that it was a recognizable pattern). They had a B.C.-era/caveman approach to women. It was not uncommon to see them try to get girls from our school to go home with them, walking near them for blocks or even miles following them. It was not uncommon to see them attempt to rub up against school girls (or any woman) in the metro. These particular individuals had no sense of civilized behavior towards women, and also did not care about the age of the woman. Decades later my parents returned to Paris. When I visited I witnessed an Algerian attempt to pick up my white-haired mom (in front of me).
This problem was also acknowledged by Algerian women (just like the migrant rapes are acknowledged and were first reported by migrant women in European camps). The behavior of these particular Algerian men that was most abhorrent was gang rape. It was not viewed by them as immoral -but as acceptable behavior for any age male. Some of the tournantes groups included age ranges from elderly men to underage men. This is a phenomena that no Westerner wants to acknowledge exists. it's not about ethnicity, religion, or nationality per se -- it's about barbaric primitive sub-cultures within those groups (and which can make up of large or small numbers). Eastern Europe has a similar problem with tribalism: the primitive blood feuds of Albania for example. But the sexual mob violence is a unique phenomenon.
I oppose the generalization of the problem and the stereotyping of all migrants. Many of the migrants are living in terror of ISIS and of the swarms! They are also being victimized in the camps themselves--raped and forcibly prostituted. It's insane. It's the fault of world leadership that they allowed this refugee crisis to happen in the first place. What an astonishing and tragic mess.

#1) What incentive is there? The class attendees already received all the desired "goods" - residence in one of the best places on earth to be and welfare packages.
#2) There's obviously no data on the effectiveness of such interventions.
#3) The fact the fox is in the henhouse, and now they are trying to train the fox, puts German authorities in the passive/weak position of responder to a situation. The foxes know this of course.
I remember when to immigrate to one of the best countries you had to jump through quite a few hoops. America only wanted to the best (in the old days). I remember a foreign Aussie couple I knew who tried to immigrate in the 70s and were turned down: Her husband was a desinger for Porsche and the powers that be said "We don't believe we need any more Porsche designers here." We always had some program for refugees - but such programs have to be implemented in an orderly way. If they are allowed to be bypased in the advent of chaos, only more chaos will ensue. For example, we test for diseases in order to control disease. If masses of humanity spill over a Western border, modern disease control is lost. And no one knows really what they're getting in terms of true victims of humanitarian disaster vs. scum of the earth.
This is a spectacular failure of Western leaders (and the U.N. for that matter). Recall that we went to war in the Balkans ostensibly to prevent an out-of-control migration of refugees into Europe. (Well that's how the war was sold. I opposed that war.) This is a much larger refugee wave - and nothing was done to prevent it. I can't fathom it. Meanwhile there are tons of countries close-by (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, etc,) with plenty of native speakers, who could've taken the refugees. But no, they have to go to the U.S. and Europe? Doesn't make sense.
I'm empathetic to the true sufferers. But I also tend to look at these issue via the analogy of a private home or property. If you had a home and family, and an extra cottage on your land, and wanted to help some refugees, what might some of your concerns be? Let's assume your cottage can house 10. Would you take 100,000? Would you take 10 single men? Or would you take only intact families and widows/widowers with children? Just some thoughts.
Next, consider the Iraq war, and the fact that ISIS is largely a product of that, of Saddam Hussein supporters seeking revenge, and of harsh treatment of Sunnis in the wake of our intervention. We live in a complex world where things are notoriously hard (if not impossible) to predict. The outcome of war is impossible to predict. The mess that has accelerated in the Middle East is astonishing and appalling.

The sad events in Cologne point to a problem that is shoved under the carpet: not all refugees are as we frequently read in the German mass media young well educated academics, usually dentists, with a nice although unrecognisable wife (burka) and several cute kids. And many of them come from cultures where women do not stroll on the streets and communicate with men let alone men they do not know. The politicians don't touch the problem. They only talk about "integration" meaning that all refugees need to behave according to our rules. Well, this is nothing but extremely naive. Unfortunately naivety is widespread among our leaders and therefore our society will experience more of such traumatic events. Police presence will not have a meaningful impact since our laws are still quite relaxed and it will be very difficult to prosecute any caught perpetrators. Germany will need to transform itself into a police state like the US. This is one of the prices the population will have to pay for the acceptance of the migrants.
