Republican Threatens DoJ Budget Over Obama's 'Tyrannical' Gun Control Action

Tyler Durden's picture

"The next twelve months will be an especially dangerous time for Americans who treasure our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms," warns Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas), chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee that oversees the Justice Department (DoJ). As The Hill reports, his warning, in a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, follows a threat to block President Obama's executive order on guns by defunding the DoJ.

The following letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch from Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas), chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee that oversees the Justice Department, clearly warns against enforcing the 'new' gun restrictions.

Source

Culberson went on to add:

"I have formally notified Attorney General Lynch that I will aggressively protect our Second Amendment rights using Congress' power of the purse...

I notified the attorney general that if the Department of Justice attempted to create new restrictions on our Constitutional rights that I would use every tool at my disposal to immediately restrict their access to federal funding.

As The Hill continues, Culberson appears to be the first Republican to call to block DOJ funding over the executive action on guns.

In future budget agreements, House appropriators could specifically prohibit the Justice Department from enforcing the gun restrictions without defunding the entire agency.

Culberson warned Lynch not to “create new law” in his letter.

“The House Appropriations Committee will not provide resources to your department for the development or implementation of unlawful limitations on the unambiguous Second Amendment rights of Americans,” Culberson wrote.

Culberson’s letter follows harsh words that Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) had for the Obama administration earlier Monday.

He accused Obama of “subverting” Congress by taking executive action on gun control.

“We all are pained by the recent atrocities in our country, but no change the president is reportedly considering would have prevented them,” Ryan said.

As President Obama prepares to address the nation at 1120ET to explain how everyone will be safer if applications for gun use are made more onerous, one can't help but wonder if Culberson would actually follow-through on his threats... and if not what kind of reaction "we, the people" will have.

I am trying, but i cant do it all alone!

I am putting all last year tax money owed and the next 2 years worth of tax money owed in a trust and not going to pay the bastards until the day before they TRY and put me in jail for it...... FINE MY ASS, I DONT CARE...... But if we all take a conscience stand at funding these assholes, we might make a difference!

But then again, the pricks will just print what the fuck they want, then spend it!

WHY THE FUCK are we all paying taxes again if the government can just print until oblivion?  Thats right.... to keep your ass in line and to continue to make you a slave to the system while the government gets their 40% of all you make when living, then another 50% when you die!  FUCK EM ALL!  I am no longer feeding the great beast called the US government   aka   THE EMPLOYER OF LAST RESORT!

This is it..... illegal gun laws IS the straw that broke my back!  If the government are going to act like a bunch of outlaws..... THEN FUCK IT..... When in Rome!

Great point (and one i tried making above).... so, instead of funding the beast with my our 40% due in taxes every year, then i (we) should take every cent that was going to the state and federal gobment and buy guns, ammo, food, gold, silver and any other tangible with that money and let them print (hyperinflate) their debts away without the help of it's citizenry!

Officially, today, i stop being a debtslave and a tax whore and start looking out for numero uno and family!

When it's all over, they've taken all your property, siezed all your accounts and you are in a Federal prison on tax evasion charges, you will be asking yourself, "Why the fuck didn't I just pay the damn tax?"

Great point... They could do that if only a handful of people stop paying... but what if 20% of americans stopped paying?

I equate it to driving in L.A..... If you have 1/2 the people going 80 MPH in a 65, do the cops really have enough manpower to stop what is going on?  I would argue NO!  Too many speeders and not enough enforcement!

Works great for General Electric...they pay NO TAXES and still get Refunds!

"The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States. Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion."

Oregon Grown (me too, BTW): the idea that the gubernmint gets 'another 50% when you die' is untrue - the 1% has made sure of that. The government got jack over shit when my wife died, and will get the same when I move on. Spent 6 weeks laid up about 15 years ago after a paragliding 'incident', studied up on probate and trusts and shit. Study up on estate planning, it ain't rocket science, and type up your shit or hire a lawyer to do it one time, and the government gets zero - your heirs get it.

How do you think the 1% stays the one percent over generations?

Some resources:

http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/diy-estate-planning

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2013/11/how-to-create-a-bulletproof-e...

http://www.alllaw.com/articles/wills_and_trusts/online-estate-planning-s...

If you ain't rich, and have a relatively 'simple' estate: house and land (maybe with mortgage), car or two and like that, do it yourself is straightforward,

If there are significant assets involved, you probably will want to go to an estate planning attorney - figure one to three grand - consider it an investment for your heirs, and one of the best ones you can make. Read some of the above shit before you go - makes the process quicker and cheaper if you have a clue...

yeah, and just like obamacare, a wasted $1 trillion stimulus package that evaporated with ZERO accountability, obama asking for $636 billion in bridge-financing for his budget & paul ryan green-lighting him for $1.135 trillion, the VA scandel, the IRS scandel, the open borders @ both the north & the south where people come and steal our wealth/run up our debt as we pay for them to be housed, healthcared, clothed, and fed while they do it ... etc., etc., etc. ... they will roll-over like the pigs that they are and give him his way.

maybe 1-day the GOP will wake-up and realize the rise of donald trump has alot less to do with obama and much more to do with republicans in the house & senate who have been completely feckless to stop the radical transformation of this country into a 4th-world, barren wasteland.

Well I am a Rand Paul man but I agree that Trump's rise is a response to the GOP ignoring their base and selling them out, time and time again. I will support a Trump presidency as I am disgusted by the GOP leadership and wish they get the wake-up call they deserve badly. Right now Trump, Paul and Cruz are the only Candidates that have called for more dialogue and partnership with Russian and not shooting down their planes in a so called No-fly zone and starting WW3 with a major nuclear power if elected. Clinton, Rubio, Jeb Bush, Christie and the rest of the funky bunch concern me terribly as they are openly calling for further escalation of global war. Trump nailed it when he said we have spent 1.4 trillion on the middle east wars and what do we have to show for it. Its not as if we have won. That was the most common sense thing I have heard from any other candidate besides Paul.
