Many price-battered precious metals investors may currently be sitting on some quantity of capital that they plan to convert into gold and silver, but they are wondering when “the best time” is to do...

George Soros: It's 2008 All Over Again

Tyler Durden's picture

Surging volatility in global equity, currency, and credit markets and significant stress in a major world economy have George Soros on edge. Speaking at an economic forum in Sri Lanka, the billionaire hedge fund manager warned global markets are facing a crisis and investors need to be very cautious. On the heels of the second trading halt in four days, Soros exclaimed "I would say it amounts to a crisis... which reminds me of 2008."

Volatility is surging everywhere...

And as Bloomberg reports, Soros is worried...

Global markets are facing a crisis and investors need to be very cautious, billionaire George Soros told an economic forum in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

China is struggling to find a new growth model and its currency devaluation is transferring problems to the rest of the world, Soros said in Colombo. A return to positive interest rates is a challenge for the developing world, he said, adding that the current environment has similarities to 2008.

...

“China has a major adjustment problem,” Soros said. “I would say it amounts to a crisis. When I look at the financial markets there is a serious challenge which reminds me of the crisis we had in 2008.”

Of course, this is not the message central planners and TV anchors want the mainstream to hear. Every dip is a buying opportunity, and "long-term" is how everyone should invest... no matter that your assets dropped 20% in a week... long-term!!

How about this long-term?

Understand that men that would guard ruthless greedy men are only bought with money are well trained soldiers of fortune.  Once the fortune is worth nothing, so are the lives of those that they guard.  It is why Esprit des Corp is a superior system for the fundemental security of a nation; Merit, honour and trust is always far more dependable than money and extremely difficult to tarnish after they are well earned.

He's in Sri Lanka setting them up for financial destruction. He promotes decay and thrives on it afterwards. That's all he ever does. The question is why are they letting him near their money?

The Russians have a warrant out for him, the Sri Lankans would be better off swapping him for a trade deal.

KROFT: (Voiceover) …by–by posing as a Christian.

Mr. SOROS: (Voiceover) Right.

(Vintage footage of women helping each other get on train; train door closing with people in boxcar)

KROFT: (Voiceover) And you watched lots of people get shipped off to the death camps.

Mr. SOROS: Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say that that’s when my character was made.

KROFT: In what way?

Mr. SOROS: That one should think ahead. One should understand and–and anticipate events and when–when one is threatened. It was a tremendous threat of evil. I mean, it was a–a very personal experience of evil.

KROFT: My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. Yes.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That’s right. Yes.

KROFT: I mean, that’s–that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Mr. SOROS: Not–not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don’t–you don’t see the connection. But it was–it created no–no problem at all.

KROFT: No feeling of guilt?

Mr. SOROS: No.

of all the things you could attack Soros about, this is the one that I find the least convincing

he was 14 years old, and things then around him weren't exactly "normal"

in fact, the very use of this attack makes me feel sympathetic to Soros the teenager, and

less agressive towards Soros the older man, who is admitting that he does not feel guilt

is that relevant? at the age of 7 or 14 your were faced with the choice of your death or... what?

what exactly could have a 14 year old have achieved, in Nazi Germany?

At 14 years old we already know right from wrong. No matter where on Earth we live we know stealing is wrong. He knew he was stealing then and he knows it now. He has only become more destructive with time.He doesn't even have remorse for what he did.

He had a protector then to cover for his stealing and he still has them now. He takes what he wants and justifies it no matter the carnage around him. Aside from his having ignorant, and probably criminal parents, he has not evolved at all.

It's interesting that you mention the age of 7, because that is when we really do start to differentiate basic things like right and wrong. That's where the parents come in.

Good parents try to teach at least that much. Georgi Schwarz / Geroge Soros probably had lousy parents who taught him the fine arts of cheating and scamming, and how to identify targets, etc. Must have been a real creep during his school years, too.

Exactly.  Read "the sociopath next door" to understand the dialog you just read.  No remorse, no guilt.  Just calmly do what ever benefits you, with no regard to how that might harm others.

While I believe Soros is a sociopath, I believe a normal person might do what he did (but be remorseful about it).  The victims involved are facing mass murder.  What difference does property make at this point?  Certainly it is rational to deceive the guards and fork over property, all the while plotting to escape with your life.

hmm... are you sure about "He had a protector then to cover for his stealing... " from memory, he had protection, then, as long as he did steal

again. you are 14 years old. you have a choice. either die. or steal. and it looks like we are all saints since teen-age, here, bar me and Soros

I vastly prefer to attack Soros for what he did since he reached maturity and was grown up. and for his deeds, not his parent's

Ghordius, you are thick as a wall. You should meet up with Spectre and Merkel, the three of you wold get along just fine.

1) yes he had protection but he would not have been picked if he did not have theft in his blood

2) allowing for the little sewer rat to steal or die I will give him a pass,

BUT he has never expressed remorse. Au contraire. He ramped up his destructive financial schemes regardless of how many people were destroyed and he shows no signs of letting up. He will be a venomous parasite to his last day.

3) his parents are to blame, they raised him poorly and now we are stuck with the aftermath of their incompetence. They must have been just like him.

The sooner he croaks and meets his buddy Maurice Strong in the pits of hell the better for all of us.

I do not idolize him but accept his "contagion' judgment. It shall spread from the center to SE Asia where crony infested economies have balance sheets that magnify the volatilities/illiquidities within. (Japan is an exceptional case with its own unique malaise). This shall reverberate to the Mises' capital consumption for indebted economies. Those ahead of the curve for the meltdowns have already exited as evidenced by the funds outflows from these "fairy lands". There are still juices left as they defend their vanities (their currencies). May not have a crash but the long and unwinding road is sufficiently painful

Thu, 01/07/2016 - 08:04 | 7010051 mtl4

Contagions aren't a judgement anymore, the world economies are now fully linked so when it gets bad everyone will feel the pain.  Soros is wrong about it feeling like 2008, the next one will be far worse because governments have done nothing but add to the probkem since then.  Ironically since the east will likely start the probem they will also likely emerge from it first as well.

One of my New Years Resolutions was to be more civil on here. My rage against the Matrix - and the idiots that are so entrenched in it - showed on here in my salty posts on here. I re-read some, and except for telling off the trolls and new ZH posters on here for their collective stupidity in their posts, I am attempting to be more ....civil.

Then this piece of shit surfaced. While I agree to be informed means you must watch over/read/hear from sources that are evil, to see what they are saying/deceiving/spewing, Soros is different.

So therefore, I join in, and make an exception.

DIE YOU MOTHERFUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. DIE.

right. absolutely. a strong temptation

which, if followed through in the real world, leads to a very uncivil war, which then attracts all kinds of voltures, unwarranted influences, weapons merchants, interventions, and all kinds of consequences, up to some back-and-forth "liberations" until the territory is bled dry and peace returns

just look at Syria, or Iraq. they are having a swell time, arent't they?

what was the topic again? that civility is overrated? beg to differ, civility is vastly underrated

you don't need to be uncivil to combat crime or corruption. in fact, civility helps to keep minds focused and undistracted.
