"We Came, We Saw, He Died" – Revisiting The Incredible Disaster That Is Libya

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

In retrospect, Obama’s intervention in Libya was an abject failure, judged even by its own standards. Libya has not only failed to evolve into a democracy; it has devolved into a failed state. Violent deaths and other human rights abuses have increased severalfold. Rather than helping the United States combat terrorism, as Qaddafi did during his last decade in power, Libya now serves as a safe haven for militias affiliated with both al Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). The Libya intervention has harmed other U.S. interests as well: undermining nuclear nonproliferation, chilling Russian cooperation at the UN, and fueling Syria’s civil war.?

As bad as Libya’s human rights situation was under Qaddafi, it has gotten worse since NATO ousted him. Immediately after taking power, the rebels perpetrated scores of reprisal killings, in addition to torturing, beating, and arbitrarily detaining thousands of suspected Qaddafi supporters. The rebels also expelled 30,000 mostly black residents from the town of Tawergha and burned or looted their homes and shops, on the grounds that some of them supposedly had been mercenaries. Six months after the war, Human Rights Watch declared that the abuses “appear to be so widespread and systematic that they may amount to crimes against humanity.”?

As a consequence of such pervasive violence, the UN estimates that roughly 400,000 Libyans have fled their homes, a quarter of whom have left the country altogether. ?

– From the post: The Forgotten War – Understanding the Incredible Debacle Left Behind by NATO in Libya

Shortly after the NATO-led war which ousted Libyan leader Muammar el-Qaddafi, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ebulliently boasted with a characteristic sociopathic giddiness, the following on network television:

Indeed, from Iraq to Libya, and indeed across the entire planet, the U.S. government has an uncanny ability to take an already bad geopolitical situation and turn it into a complete and total chaotic humanitarian disaster. It’d be one thing if the woman in the above video clip had been disgraced and forced into exile in Chappaqua, but the disturbing reality is she will most likely be promoted to the next President of these United States.

In order to fully appreciate what a clueless homicidal maniac she is, let’s reexamine the unmitigated nightmare that is Libya. A nightmare that Clinton and her interviewer laughed uncontrollably about creating.

From Reuters:

At least 47 people were killed on Thursday when Libya’s worst bomb attack since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi hit a police training center as hundreds of recruits gathered for a morning meeting.

No group immediately claimed the attack in the town of Zliten, but suicide blasts and car bombings have increased in Libya as Islamist militants have taken advantage of the North African country’s chaos to expand their presence.

Since a NATO-backed revolt ousted Gaddafi, Libya has slipped deeper into turmoil with two rival governments and a range of armed factions locked in a struggle for control of the OPEC state and its oil wealth.

In the chaos, Islamic State militants have grown in strength, taking over the city of Sirte and launching attacks on oilfields. Islamic State fighters this week attacked two major oil export terminals.

Western powers are pushing Libya’s factions to back a U.N.-brokered national unity government to join forces against Islamic State militants, but the agreement faces major resistance from several factions on the ground.

For more than a year, an armed faction called Libya Dawn has controlled Tripoli, setting up its own self-declared government, reinstating the former parliament and forcing the recognized government to operate in the east of the country.

Western officials say forming a united government would be the first step in Libya seeking international help to fight against Islamic State, including training for a new army and possible air strikes against militant targets.

But hey…

Finally, if you want to understand just how long the war against Syria has been in the works (before ISIS became a huge problem), let’s revisit the following 2011 tweet by “Crazy” John McCain:

And you wonder why the world is in the state it’s in…

Libya: From Africa’s Richest State Under Gaddafi, to Failed State After NATO Intervention

In 1967 Colonel Gaddafi inherited one of the poorest nations in Africa; however, by the time he was assassinated, Gaddafi had turned Libya into Africa’s wealthiest nation. Libya had the highest GDP per capita and life expectancy on the continent. Less people lived below the poverty line than in the Netherlands.

After NATO’s intervention in 2011, Libya is now a failed state and its economy is in shambles. As the government’s control slips through their fingers and into to the militia fighters’ hands, oil production has all but stopped.

http://www.globalresearch.ca/libya-from-africas-richest-state-under-gadd...

Paul Craig Roberts explains:

Obama denied that the US and Israel employ violence. This is what Russia and Syria do, asserted Obama with no evidence. Obama said that he had Libya attacked in order to “prevent a massacre,” but, of course, the NATO attack on Libya perpetrated a massacre, an ongoing one. But it was all Gaddafi’s fault. He was going to massacre his own people, so Washington did it for him.

Obama justified all of Washington’s violence against millions of peoples on the grounds that Washington is well-meaning and saving the world from dictators.

The empire needs a global military presence to foist its worthless fiat on the rest of this world.  When Saddam tried to sell his oil in Euros and Gaddafi tried to introduce a gold-backed currency (gold Dinar), the consequences were clear for everyone.

Whatever happened to Libya's 144 tons of gold?

Gaddafi gold-for-oil, dollar-doom plans behind Libya 'mission'?

Yes, and Russia/Putin voted FOR the actions taken in Libya.

Russia consented to the actions taken in Iraq and consented to the actions taken in Yemen.

Russia consented to the sanctions against Iran.

Russia/Putin voted FOR actions/sanctions against Syria to force Assad to give up chemical weapons (weapons that scared NATO and Israel).  Just like Russia did to Iraq.

Abstained is the same as consented to.  All it took was for Russia to cast a no vote and it would not have been allowed through the UN.  But Russia consented to the destruction of Libya and would not even cast a simple NO vote.

You talk about a change in the future by Russia or those who control Russia.  There is no reason to hope for that.  The pattern has been consistent over many years.  Even to the recent sanctions, blockade and attack against Yemen.

Top Clinton Lawyer Filed Voter Suppression Suit for Group Now Under Investigation for Voter Fraud

http://freebeacon.com/politics/group-represented-by-top-clinton-lawyer-i...

NOTE: includes a news segment from WSB TV in Atlanta.

A group that had been represented by the top lawyer for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign earlier this year is now being investigated by Ohio authorities for fraudulent voter registrations, including the registration of deceased individuals.

Marc Elias, an attorney at Perkins Coie who has become the go-to fixer for Democrats and is now general counsel for Clinton’s presidential campaign, became involved with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative this May when he filed a lawsuit on its behalf to challenge the state’s voter identification laws.

Now the group is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal investigation after a local board of elections alleged that 25 to 30 of the voter-registration applications that the group submitted appeared to be fraudulent.

Dave Johnson, vice-chairman of the Columbiana County Board of Elections, said that the board contacted the sheriff’s office once they began noticing frequent problems with the registrations submitted by the Ohio Organizing Collaborative...

... Christian Adams, an attorney who leads the Public Interest Legal Foundation and is helping states fight the Soros-backed lawsuits, said that voter fraud in Ohio is the reason laws were implemented in the first place.

“Voter registration fraud has infected the last two presidential elections in Ohio—all of it to help Obama,” Adams said. “It’s exactly why the state legislature enacted election integrity reforms and seemingly why Democrats are fighting so hard against them.”

Most definitely.  Her and McStain are likely the worst of all of them. Until you get to those ice cold bastards like Kissinger and Soros.  They don't even get reactive there is just nothing there but calculating lizard.

I still think Obama is wiping something in his eyes when pulls his crying episodes.  Everytime he cries he wipes his eye first with his finger.  Joe Biden is a psycho too, when he fakes his sad face is so overly done and distorted because he can't even mimic human emotion correctly being that he has no idea.  It's a damn nut farm.

Our immediate abandonment of the situation after we killed the petrodollar threat(gaddafi), and the msm total disregard for the people of Libya once we were done using them to justify eliminating said threat is literally what snapped me out of the matrix. It's from that point on that I began really paying attention and noticing it's al bullshit. Late, I know, but I'm young and the brainwashing begins so early.

Congratulations. Don't feel bad about being 'late'. You know what they say about that, and everyone has their time. Mine was late 2008 during the financial collapse. Yours was Gaddafi. Someone else's will be the next financial collapse, but it will be good that they wake up indeed. Enjoy the show now that you are seeing things through a different lens.

The US imposed corrupt leaders and a bureaucracy composed of people who had colloborated with the Japanese. Until the late 1980's there was effectively no difference between North and South Korea - both were corrupt dictatorships. South Korea only became democratic in the late 1980's were Korean students started protesting. South Korean is better because of what South Koreans did, not what the US did.

Hillary said in an interview that she took long and detailed instructions from Albright before she got into office. Albright was seen on TV in 1998, 1999 saying 'this ensures another American century'. I was apppalled by this female Napolean. The two have still been  good buddies in recent years, because Albright was there when Myanmar opened up to its first Coka Cola bottling plant. You'd think that is private enterprise but no, government helps even though other governments are criticised for meddling in private enterprise. Stringpullers, dangerous stringpullers. If there weren't so many spineless puppets out there, their stringpulling would be ineffective.

Back in Gaddafi's first years he asked the US (through the late oil tycoon Armand Hammer) to help him with the rebellious tribes around Benghazi. When the US refused, he took care of it himself and became what he became. Libya has been the death nail for my belief in the good judgement of America. I have experienced the nasty hands of the hegemon before,  did not lose faith completely but now I look for the hegemon to be stuffed back in his box.
