Americans Can't Wait To Get Out Of These Five States

Tyler Durden's picture

A low cost of living, no sales tax, and beautiful scenery (oh, naked bike rides, more strip clubs per capita than any other US city, and legalized weed) means Oregon is the "top moving destination" for Americans for the third year running, according to United Van Lines, with 69% of moves inbound. But, which states are Americans leaving in droves?

Americans continue to pack up and head West and South, according to new data from United Van Lines.

Oregon is the most popular moving destination of 2015 with 69 percent of moves to and from the state being inbound. The state has continued to climb the ranks, increasing inbound migration by 10 percent over the past six years. New to the 2015 top inbound list is another Pacific West state, Washington, which came in at No. 10 with 56 percent inbound moves.

Moving In - The top inbound states of 2015 were:

  1. Oregon
  2. South Carolina
  3. Vermont
  4. Idaho
  5. North Carolina
  6. Florida
  7. Nevada
  8. District of Columbia
  9. Texas
  10. Washington

The Northeast continues to experience a moving deficit with New Jersey (67 percent outbound) and New York (65 percent) making the list of top outbound states for the fourth consecutive year. Two other states in the region — Connecticut (63 percent) and Massachusetts (57 percent) — also joined the top outbound list this year. The exception to this trend is Vermont (62 percent inbound), which moved up two spots on the list of top inbound states to No. 3.

Moving Out - The top outbound states for 2015 were:

  1. New Jersey
  2. New York
  3. Illinois
  4. Connecticut
  5. Ohio
  6. Kansas
  7. Massachusetts
  8. West Virginia
  9. Mississippi
  10. Maryland

Simply put, Americans are moving from heavily-regulated, bureaucratic, high cost-of-living states to more affordable states.

This year's data from United Van Lines...

And the interactive version from the last 39 years...

Finally, as The Daily Signal concludes,

Moving patterns show how important cost of living is to American families.

With perfect weather and a booming, high-tech economy, California ought to be the #1 destination. Instead, more moving trucks are leaving the state than entering.

Did he?  I did a search and couldn't find anything except him explaining why the California blowout smells like sulphur.  Not that it is not there just that I couldn't find it.

Probably not nuclear related but did anybody see the mountain lion that had teeth in it's head in Idaho?  Freakin wickied.  Brave soul that shot that thing.  I would've been running screaming "It's the chupacabra!"

So being nearby I'm not getting why the fuck anyone outside of hipster bartender types would want to move Oygun.

Portland is the most over hyped dump on the Left Coast. The retarded sexually ambiguous sheepistanis are so over the top PC you can't get out of there fast enough. The eastern part of the state is like being trapped in a Green Acres rerun.

Around Bend is nice and have some beautiful scenario, but they have chased most business out and everyone lives over in Vancouver WA side of the bridge and commutes in.

On the plus side cigs are only 50 a carton and they have a great foodie scene.

The price of cigarettes is closer to $85 to $90 per carton in Vancouver, WA.

If you smoke it makes perfect sense to drive over the bridges to get your cigarettes...or...even better still...quit smoking.

And as for residence...Many more people live in Portlland and the surrounding communities on the Oregon side of the river than do in Vancouver. (Let's keep it that way. Shhhhh...)

The taxes in Illinois are outrageous. Especially around the surrounding suburbs.
A school system where HS teachers with 32 years of service get bumped up to 35 years and retire out at $144,000 or more per year. With a pension of $104,000/year around the Chicago area.

Property taxes are $8,000/yr or more for a 2,000 sq ft house.

Highest state and local sales taxes
==============================================
Chicago, Illinois: 10.25 percent (starting Jan 1, 2016)
Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama: 10 percent
Seattle, Washington: 9.6 percent
Glendale, Arizona:, 9.5 percent

And the public unions keep asking for more as well as more taxes.

What better reason to bale from Illinois.

They did away with that but a lot of other things still suck.  Huge taxes on sin items and I think smokes are like $800 a pack now.  Spent a lot of my life there, lived on both sides of the state and I wont be going back.  I don't hate it but I'm allergic to patchouli and rain.  Cities like Spokane in Eastern Washington are gross and riddled with meth.  Central Washington is Hanford, apples and Mexicans.  Vancouver isn't bad but to each their own I guess.

Wouldn't mind having a rental in the Seattle area after housing collapses though.

Mosquitoes in northern states, eg Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc are MUCH worse than mosquitoes in Florida, for two reasons, one is northern species are larger - does anyone know the 2nd more important reason ???

They have a limited time to feed and breed and that makes them more aggressive. Southern mosquitoes have all year.

That's a good joke !

You are on the correct general track, but that is not the specific reason why the mosquitoes in the north are much worse than the mosquitoes in the south.

Think about this: what senses do mosquitoes use to find their prey and how are those senses affected by the environment ?

So they can see your CO2 easier in cooler climes or detect it more easily.  Or the heat is easier to detect.

Sat, 01/09/2016 - 00:20 | 7020602 InnVestuhrr
InnVestuhrr's picture

You got it !

Mosquitoes track their prey using 2 senses:

1. Carbon dioxide gradient, very inaccurate, especially with breezes

2. Heat gradient, very accurate, however the relatively higher heat in the south results in the heat gradient between prey and background being too small in daytime for mosquitoes to track prey effectively, and that is why mosquitoes in the south are most active in the relatively cooler morning/evening and under the canopy of forests, while in the north, the relatively cooler temperatures results in the heat gradient between prey and background being large enough in daytime for mosquitoes to track prey effectively, which is why in the north you get devoured by mosquitoes all day long. Actually, the cooler the temperature, the more active and aggressive the mosquitoes are because their heat detector targets you with the precision of a laser sight. Try going fishing in Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan, and Maine in summertime without heavy-duty mosquitoes protection and you will find out quickly, but not a problem in Florida, unless you are under a forest canopy.

Because of tundra I'm guessing, it doesn't drain well.  Mosquitos are way worse in places like Alaska and ND than in the South in my opinion.  I have spent time in all of those areas and only in Alaska have I see the sky turn black with clouds of millions of them.  I have seen people turn black in ND.  I wouldn't be surprised if they occasionally kill off wild life, I know the ticks in MN do.

Through my own observations I have noticed that people with O blood type get nailed by mosquitos.  Everytime I see somebody getting bit to death I ask them what their blood type is.  I had a friend visit that was O- recently and he was bit constantly in my backyard.  I have never been bitten in my backyard.  I think I am AB blood type.

Very close, yes, there are FAR MORE mosquitoes in the northern boggy areas than in Florida, in spite of the fact that Florida is a huge limestone sponge with millions of ponds and lakes.

But that is not the primary reason why the mosquitoes in the north are MUCH WORSE than the mosquitoes in the south.

God  loves mosquitoes, so turn the other cheek (face or butt), fer Chrissakes!

It's what Jesus wants you to do: turn the other cheek.  And don't forget that our Caucasian-looking God knew hundreds of millions of years earlier, when he was just warming up on his genetic-engineering skills, that Man would duck up (rather than Him), and so He made mosquitoes. That he kept out of the Garden of Eden with Deer or a giant screen-Dome.
