"Ms. Merkel Invited Me": Refugee Sex Assaults Reported In Finland, Switzerland, Austria
On Thursday, we got what appears to be confirmation that the “hundreds” of suspects involved in a series of sexual assaults on German women were largely of Arab origin. According to German media, many of the men were asylum seekers who had recently entered the country from the war-torn Mid-East.
The assaults occurred in the city center in Cologne, where eyewitnesses and victims say groups of marauding New Year’s revelers accosted women, in some instances making off with their belongings. Attacks were also reported in Hamburg, and Stuttgart.

Initially, the incidents received little media coverage but soon the word was out and the backlash from the German public was palpable.
Protests were staged in Cologne and opposition lawmakers lambasted Chancellor Angela Merkel for her open-door migrant policy which some say is destined to rip Germany’s social fabric to shreds.
Meanwhile, Cologne mayor Henriette Reker got herself into a bit of hot water by suggesting that German women have a responsibility to deter attacks by staying at “arm’s length” from would-be assailants. She also said Germany “needs to explain to people from other cultures that the jolly and frisky attitude during our Carnival is not a sign of sexual openness.”

Apparently, Germany isn’t the only country that needs to “explain” things to refugees. Reports now suggest that women in Finland and Sweden experienced similar assaults on New Year’s Eve by asylum seekers.
“Finnish police reported Thursday an unusually high level of sexual harassment in Helsinki on New Year's Eve and said they had been tipped off about plans by groups of asylum seekers to sexually harass women,” AFP reports, adding that “three sexual assaults allegedly took place at Helsinki's central railway station on New Year's Eve, where around 1,000 mostly Iraqi asylum seekers had converged.”
"There hasn't been this kind of harassment on previous New Year's Eves or other occasions for that matter... This is a completely new phenomenon in Helsinki,” the city’s deputy police chief said. "The suspects were asylum seekers. The three were caught and taken into custody on the spot," Koskimaki told AFP.
Apparently, the attacks were premeditated. "Ahead of New Year's Eve, the police caught wind of information that asylum seekers in the capital region possibly had similar plans to what the men gathered in Cologne's railway station have been reported to have had," a police statement read.
And it wasn’t just Finland.
“Swiss police said several women were allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted in Zurich on New Year’s Eve, [in a] method 'a little bit similar' to that used in a spate of assaults in Germany,” The Herald Sun writes. “And it has now emerged that similar sex attacks were carried out in Austria, but police didn’t publicise the incidents ‘to protect the privacy of the victims’”.
Yes, "to protect the privacy of the victims" - or to protect against the prospect that publicizing the incidents would trigger a bloc-wide backlash against refugees, because while it's easy to say that the actions of seven individuals on a suicide mission in Paris aren't representative of the millions of asylum seekers flooding into Europe from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, it's a bit harder to claim that apparently coordinated sexual assaults by thousands of would-be asylum seekers don't say something about the extent to which integration may be, in Slovak PM Robert Fico's words, "impossible."
On Thursday, Spiegel released the findings of a German Federal Police report on the Cologne attacks. Here are some bullet points (translated):
- Officials were therefore prevented by close people rings from advancing to help caller
- A man is quoted as saying: "I am Syrian, you have to treat me kindly Mrs. Merkel has invited me."
- Witnesses were threatened when they named perpetrators.
- People torn according to the report in front of the police residence permit, grinned and said: "You can send me anything, go get a new tomorrow." Whether they were genuine documents and what kind of documents, it is not apparent from the report.
- Granted restraining orders have been ignored; To take repeat offenders in custody, due to lack of capacity was not possible.
- After track closures due to overcrowding people had just walked on the side track and then on the rails back to the suspended platform.
- When boarding trains there were physical fights, it was the "law of the jungle".
"Women with or without accompaniment went through a literally 'gauntlet' by the heavily intoxicated men masses, as one can not describe it," the report reads.
There you have it. "Heavily intoxicated men masses," comprised of Syrians who told police that they had been invited by Angela Merkel. That's sure to go over well with the German public and opposition lawmakers.
Apparently, Germany is set to uninvite those responsible, as the justice minister said the country could deport some suspects. Of course identifying the culprits will be next to impossible. Here's The New York Times:
The police have so far been unable to apprehend anyone, a fact that Wolfgang Albers, Cologne’s chief of police, attributed to the chaos in which the assaults took place, despite there being dozens of officers on duty in the area.
“The women were in a very difficult situation,” Chief Albers said in an interview Wednesday with the public radio station WDR 5. “They were afraid, they wanted to get away, and of course they did not notice any specific faces.”
In Hamburg, the police said Wednesday that they had received 53 complaints, more than half of them alleging sexual harassment, from victims age 18 to 25. They appear to have been targeted in a similar fashion in that city’s Reeperbahn red-light and club district on New Year’s Eve. Victims and witnesses in Hamburg also described the attackers as being dark-skinned or “looking Arabic.”
The New Year’s Eve mass-scale assaults, the police said, involved groups of several men taking advantage of the crowds to target young women by surrounding them. While several perpetrators groped the women, others picked their pockets, stealing wallets and cellphones.
Even if the authorities are able to apprehend suspects, they biggest challenge will be for victims to identify their attackers, given that several men appeared to have been involved in the attacks on each woman.
Here's the latest from Merkel who, while stopping short of subjecting her own policy to criticism, seems to be changing her stance - if only gradually.
"Of course after what happened, there are several very serious questions which go beyond Cologne. Are there connections or collective patterns? Are there elements of condemnation of women?"
"We must vehemently work against that. I don't think these are single cases. People have a right, and we as a state institution have the obligation to give the right answers to this."
Meanwhile, the first version of Hitler's "Mein Kampf" to be published in Germany since World War II went on sale Friday.

Wishful thinking Haus.
of course, but I can remember how Germans talked among each others before that cultural import started. non-PC can indeed be hurtful, particularly when factual
example, putting up my German conservative cap and explaining the main difference between Cologne's New Year and it's famous carnival
- on New Year, everybody is at private, paid parties or at home, roughly from 22.00 to 04.00. except the poor, particularly the young. and they can get bored. and start shooting fireworks at buildings, the cathedral and even people. and they do get all drunk, and start to behave in silly way then... it's a trunkated society, with literally no elders and wiser heads around. meaning that places where usually it's peaceful... a kind of anarchic mayhem can start. particularly if the recent wave of immigrants also has some starting of mafia-like groupings and further strangers that aren't even asylum-seekers abound
- on Carnival... it's the whole society. Everybody is on the streets. The girls in that French-looking uniform that resembles a "Majorette" costume showing their legs, and all the rest
meanwhile, Cologne is always "frisky", when having fun. It always had so and so many pregnancies from the carnival, and yes, rapes were common even 100 years ago, both real... and alleged, post-fact "I did nothing, he did" affairs. It's a frigging tradition. And yes... there is always a number of rapes that are... alleged only. But that is a ground where only the bravest venture. the end of PC will be when there is a frank and factual discussion about rape... and sexes behaving differently from each other (with or without foreigners, race, religion, the works)
does it hurt... enough?
So if the poor shot fireworks at buildings and people the German police of 30 years ago come out with their German Sheppards, batons & night sticks, beat the shit out of them, and take them to jail, like should happen in any civilized country.
Ghordo, you're egalitarian view of the world has very little to do with reality. Your non egalitarian views of the world I find very interesting.
When you start discussing the poor, or the needy, or the less fortunate, I swear to *God* I feel like I am reading what this man has written.
only because I have a typical continental european attitude versus the poor and the young, tinged by Catholicism, and you have a (more typical American?) attitude versus the (putting words in your mouth then aren't yours) "useless eaters" and the "zombies" does not mean that I am a radical equalist of either side of the pond that starts about the "needy" or the "less fortunate"
I still think that I am the realist and you are the idealist in regard to many things, particularly about Germany and society
in fact, many of my views about the poor and the young are typically characterized as patriarchal and paternalist. practically paleo-conservative. by people that do care about such labels, and I often think that you don't really care, which would be another "typical" thing
My complaint with your above statement Ghordo, is you were bitching that people were having private parties for Silverster, and the poor can't come.
People tend to hang out with people similar to themselves. This is just how humanity works. Having a bunch of lawyers watching fireworks from a private catered penthouse party on the Rhine -- it should not surprise you they didn'T invite the immigrants -- nor should they.
Your moral equivocation of "well, this stuff is bound to happen because society isn't well integrated" is another way of saying "we cannot lay all the blame for their actions with them, it is someone else's fault" and this thought process I find offensively stupid.
I am responsible for my own actions. When I have been dirt poor, with not enough money for a 4€ Döner I stayed at home, had leftovers and watched TV, all of which was free. I read, and access to libraries is also, free. Attempting to blame those who had private parties for the actions of the immigrants is just wrong, especially given there were plenty of places to watch the fireworks along the Rhine for free, which hundreds of thousands of Germans did without sexually assaulting people or firing fireworks into crowds of people.
did I? where? I try to be factual. (like Jesus when he said "the poor, they will always be with us").
you are making out of every fact a statement of morality. you try to moralize about everything, in my view, or expecting moralizations (is that a word?). and projecting on me some stuff that is not there
I approve of you holding yourself responsible for your actions, btw. +1
Moral judgements are the foundation of "political correctness". In my opinion, most situations are neither "good" nor "bad". They just ARE. No moral judgement is necessary, or even possible.
Moralization is a lazy thought process that can easily ignore fact and logic to reach absurd conclusions. Liberal/Progressive politics in the US is shot through with it. Frustration with it is the basis of Donald Trump's popularity in the US.
Compassion for unfortunates in other countries somehow gets "moralized" into a reason for tolerating rape and murder. How absurd can we get?
Humans are still basically tribal and xenophobic. Look around the world and it is only some Western liberals who think otherwise. Even in Spain where the Catalans and Basques have "always" been there , many want a independent nation for their "Tribe".
"I am responsible for my own actions."
Amen. Carve that in stone.
That's Calvinism for you. Everything that happens is predetermined and deserved.
looked into it, found it does not fit to me. a Calvinist partriarchal and paternalist point of view? oh, my. I don't want to think about that
I really like both of you, especially because of your different opinions. But it is really amusing, that both of you really think that you know how things in Germany are and how common Germans think about the refugee crisis.
It is certain that we do not get up in arms Haus. You are among the exceptionals Haus.
Ghordius you haven't felt how common German opinion (talking non-PC) changed since the "Wir schaffen das" speech of Merkel. It is really different to feel sympathy for refugees, knowing the hazards of their flight and then to see/experience them right in between your neighborhood.
I live in South-West Germany, near the french border where CDU has strongholds in most of the small communities (our village is CDU dominated since WWII). We do not have problems with our 40 or so refugees within our community of 1900 inhabitants, but other communitites who got packed with lots of refugees now experience how their peaceful and boring life changes pretty fast. The small town where my daughter of 11 goes to school got 1200 refugees, packed in a single huge former funiture store (a town of 10000 inhabitants).
The mood of the people changes slowly but steadily especially since a lot of Germans see their daily life being influenced. So there is no abstract threat like terorroism, but real potential threats (for example I would kill that fucker, if someone would start to harass my daughter or friends of her).
The high quality of life in Germany is diminishing and this is for a real German not acceptable. Now wait until the next crisis leads to economic suffering and rising unemployment and you are going to see AfD with "Das Boot ist voll" like banners as it happened in the late nineties.
Of course most Germans know that there are simply little alternatives other then to let them in. Our sense for Realpolitik is quite good you know? Where should they go to if no country is going to accept them?
But we also know that Merkel is guilty for escalating the refugee situation with SPD, Linke and Grüne, applauding her. And she gave that promise, which got broken on NYE. For example, as I write this, MSM (ZDF) is showing a story about refugees harassing young girls. Something that would not be possible the week before. Lets see if they are really changing laws to have the criminals being deported easier or just bullshit talk.
Ghordious - Almost every chick I have ever been with loves rape movies. Go figure.
Haus,
I appreciate and agree with what you've been writing on this issue for the past few days. I offer one clarification. It seems minor but it is not.
You said, "PC is nothing but an intellectual gulag."
I'd correct that along these lines:
If "thought control" is enforced by the "thought police," PC is the gulag for independent thought.
PC was created by intellectuals, the ruling elite in education and of the opinion makers. Their enemy is not the intellect (for that is their crown of olives). Their enemy is independent thought...those who think outside the barbed wire fence of the PC concentration camp, a camp that is is filled with intellectuals.
I stand corrected. Very well put. I will alter my description of PC in the future. Thank you.
I remember backpacking around Europe in 1988 and young women were everywhere doing the same thing. By themselves. A few of the train stations in Italy were a little dodgy (motly pickpockets), but most os the popular cities were safe. Now I wouldn't let my middle-aged wife go to Europe by hsrself, let alone a teenaged daugher. Sad.
"I remember backpacking around Europe in 1988 and young women were everywhere doing the same thing."
it was the same in the summer of 69' - Haufbrau House in Munich they were singing UCLA and OSU fight songs
no one was concerned - the Germans Hospitiality was fantastic!
most of the cities are still safe when everybody is around, and most of the train stations are the way you remember them in 1988, but more "colorful" (as in "good tan"?)
meanwhile, most of the train station squares are still "unsafe" at New Year's Eve, as in 1988
most of the crimes committed in Cologne were connected to improper use of fireworks, which then led to police overwork, and then gropings, and then the rape cases which are still being assessed
I know that rape is spelled RAPE!!! RAPE!!! here, and it is a hideous crime. but reading your comment, you might think people were killed, in Germany. and that is not the case
in some places of this world you expect to be mugged in nearly every dark alley, don't you? well, not here. keep some... balance
the very sensation of all this is that such things did happen in places where something like that did not happen, usually
Ghordo speak:
Its no big deal guys, no one died, and sure some women got groped, but hey, its happened before, so it cannot be the immigrants.
that's not what I wrote and you are writing about as if you were a teenager. fact is that in some places people can die
I will tell you that if someone raped a woman in my family I would treat it as murder and they would pay for it with their worthless life.
"I would treat it as murder"
It could very well be murder, given the prevalence of HIV.
Germans must get with the multicultural program. If a woman isn't in head to toe berka sexual assault is her fault.
Any crime of violence is 100% unacceptable and worthy of a lethal response. I don't get you.
The real scandal is a ploitical one. Police chief underplayed the situation and there was a "Hundertschaft" division of police ready to deploy, which didn't got dispatched. Why ? Because they didn't want to raise too much attention and underestimated the situation. They were trying to sweep this under the rug, since on Jan 1st the police officially reported a peaceful NYE and only after it became impossible to hide it any longer the truth gets revealed. But only piece by piece. Which leads to mistrust of the people. They start rissing questions if such cover-ups are normal or have is the situation in reality etc.
People got more alert and that is certainly a good sign.
I took 3 weeks leave from the Army and drove around Europe in the summer of 1971. There were girls hitchhiking alone or in pairs all over the place. Needless to say, the seats in my little VW bug were full pretty much all of the time. I used to park and sleep along side the road every other night and check into one of the many campgrounds for a shower and to sleep on the ground by my car on alternate nights. In the camp grounds there were little kids running around loose, the german speaking ones getting a big kick out of the fact that I did not have a proper tent to sleep under. I can remember one night skinny dipping on a deserted beach on the French rivera coast at night as two canadian girl passengers watched from the beach. Suddenly a spectacular fireworks display began to explode right overhead, including bright flares. I did not realize that I had driven into ground zero of Bastille Day celebrations.
I can remember the Beaches in Catalonia trying to translate the questions that a little spanish girl wanted me to pose to the German young ladies that i was trying to - well you know. In any event my haltingly conversant knowledge of both languages was barely adequate to the task. Translator was not one of my skill sets. The assembled beach goers from several different countries then began guessing my national origins. None of the onlookers guessed American, but a persistent Frenchman kept insisting that I was English.
It was a magical time of social cohesion and widespread trust in Europe.
Sadly, those days are long gone.
ALAAF AKBAR!
yoo know if you say that you have 7 days to convert to Islam or you will be put on the kill list.
ALAAF is a European Carnaval slur.
KARNEVAL KOMMT!

PC losing ground in Europe? What the fuck have you been smoking? This entire fiasco is the result of political correctness and all its putrid trappings. Wake up....
The arabs probably thought it said Carnal in Cologne. And Germans protesting means nothing to the people who are taking a sabbatical from dodging RPG rounds. I'd say if you beat a few of them to death the rest would still carry on regardless, or go jihad. Fucking nuts.
political correctness losing ground in europe. it was anyway an import.
Yeah, sure.
It's always somebody else's fault.
Denial & wishful thinking got us into this mess, why can't the get us out? (paraphrased)
"these people come from places that look at non-Muslim women as less than cattle."
So you're saying that, apparently, to them, it's a downgrade from from 'camels' to 'camel toes'?
Every European country is getting fucked in some manner. The poorer countries through austerity, and the wealthier ones through immigrant Mooooslim dick. Mr. Panos might be broke... but he's on a beach somewhere with a grin on his face.
oh, and yes, Haus-Targaryien, you are right. somewhat. The Right, i.e. the (German) conservatives are rising. But you have to understand the political context
first, you might witness the funny and strange mechanics about the coalition between the socialists and conservatives in power. for example by witnessing how Merkel and her party's ministers talk the socialist points and... the socialist ministers giving the conservative's points. for example the new laws that the conservatives are preparing about immigration, police work, IDs, cameras, and so on
second, that the Far Right is delirious with joy about the situation... but the conservatives are very keen on not letting them getting any political results out of it
so all in all the ruling coalition will shift to the right, and so the whole of Germany, with the purpose of squeezing the rump-AfD out of the spectrum
England has experienced several such moves in living memory, as any Briton here might be able to attest
If Merkel & Seehofer just change their rhetoric and not their actions -- the AfD will be around for quite some time, ever in larger numbers.
You need to deal with it.
well, some of the new laws might or might not be of your liking. again, conservative proposals... but you will hear them from socialist minister's lips (some half puking, the poor blokes)
immigration and crime laws leading to deportation and loss of asylum rights, those you might like, I presume
new ID laws... don't know. basically the police might get the right to stop anybody and ask for ID, regardless. also known as "Schleich-Fahndung"
cameras. Germany is a bit of a stranger about cameras. we might witness that kind of police cameras density as in London, the world's champion of them
the problem with unleashing the German Police is... that's the German Police you are unleashing. The same that practically wrote the book on nearly all police work
I have no problem with ID laws, I have no problem with people deporting these shitstains, I have no problem with them writing a law commanding all of them to integrate.
The problem is, like the Dublin Agreement (which is also considered Law in the Germany) -- if the law doesn't fulfill the Social Justice Warrior's agenda, he just throws it out and does what he wants anyhow.
If the German government applied "the law" as it is currently written. All 1.1 million of these refugees would be registered either in Bulgaria, Greece or Italy. But alas, she ignored written law, and they are all now here. What would make me think she would enforce these new laws, when she won't enforce the ones that are already here?
"... if the law doesn't fulfill the Social Justice Warrior's agenda, he just throws it out and does what he wants anyhow. ..."
We have the same problem in the US.
I am getting the idea that what you call "Social Justice Warriors" in Germany, we call "Liberals" or "Progressives" in the US.
We are either going to be ruled by laws that apply equally to everyone or we are going to be ruled by decrees handed down by powerful people without reguard for law.
US conservatives want the government to operate under the law (beginning with the constitution) anddo their best to enforce the law as written. What is the comparable political term in Germany?
US Liberal/Progressives want to dismiss the constitution as an old scrap of paper and enforce whatever they want. What is the comparable political term in Germany?
we have a cesspool full of "Social Justice Warriors" in the US, and are fed up with them here as well.
Concepts of "intersectionalism" and "patriarchy" and "people of color" and "oppression" are their hallmarks. When you attempt a discussion (most are incapable of real discussion, as they are incapable of original thought) you find their concepts are socialist and communist, with "justice" being "whatever takes property and authority from white men and gives it to non-white others" and "social justice" being "whatever we want it to mean at the moment, as long as it takes property and authority from white men ..." They have ideas like "all penetration (intercourse) is rape" and "no person of color can be a racist, because racism is all about power and persons of color have no power by definition, so none can be racist". Evidently La Raza doesn't recruit in their neighborhoods ....
Anyway, we have them here, and they are some of the most racist (against whites), sexist (against men) and mentally stunted (generally) people I know. Eventually, after the Crunch, they will all starve to death since their degrees in Womyn's Studies and Cultural Appropriation do not equip them to survive in the real world, where light bulbs and doorknobs are too mechanically sophisticated for them to master. Perhaps they will make an acceptable fertilizer, but it would not surprise me to find they fail even in that.
According to a friend of mine AH made a hideous mistake by going to war after only 7 years in power. In truth it was impossible to create a durable and permanent sense of ethnic German nationalism in a mere 7 years. It would take 30 years - a full generation - of conditioning and continuation of freedom from central bank debt based money for Germany to have set itself apart and become immune to multiculturalism. Sadly the decadence of Wiemar quickly returned and 70 years of endless German guilt propaganda has taken a fatal toll, and serves as the basis of power for the existing elites. Germany and thus all of Europe is doomed. Hitler was half right.
It would appear that Putin has learned from history and is not repeating his error.
There are sometimes I read the news and I just get mad. Irate is perhaps a better word. There are other times I read the news and my heart breaks.
Then there are comments like this, that make so much logical sense -- they are just depressing. You ruined my day. Thanks for that. This gives me something else to think on.
I read an article of the Poland A/B theory. Germany needs to absorb Poland A, it would benefit both groups of people immensely, and having a group of 17 million people that are fiercly nationalist would be a very good thing in this culture of self-loathing Germany has developed.
My day is ruined now, as I contemplate what it will look like here in 100 years.
"the problem with unleashing the German Police is... that's the German Police you are unleashing. The same that practically wrote the book on nearly all police work"
I truly appreciate these exchanges between you and Haus-Targaryen when I have time to pick them out of the many inane comments here at ZH. The political and social terms are so different in Europe and the US, it is hard to understand just what is going on.
When my son was stationed in Germany, he joked that if Germany ever got into another war, they should leave the Army at home to tend to women and children and send the Frankfurt police into battle. That, and your comment, tells me that Germany and the US both have misgivings about unleashing the police.
They might be hard to re-leash and might wage war on the very citizens they are supposed to serve and protect. There is a big difference between "keeping the peace" and "waging war".
In the US, this is commonly called "militarizing the police". IDs, cameras and monitoring all communication electronically gives militarized police the power to be truly oppressive. Sensible people are wary of it.
It's legally practically impossible to deport anyone to a country where the deported stands a chance to get tortured or killed. This is a law that is not alterated easily, since any change could be considered unconstitutional.
But you are right Ghordius. Right now all the left parties try to overtake CSU on the right side. But all this is talk and I hope we do not lose attention on this topic until a law is drafted and of course implemented and executed.
This dynamic you describe between an encumbent centre-right party and a far right opponent in a climate of anti-immigration sentiment reminds me of late 1990's Australia and Pauline Hanson.
Collision of cultures.
aside; my partner spent several years working in Jordan and Egypt ... one of our first vacations was to Senegal where I noticed that when she went to market alone, she'd wear a baseball cap with a 6" hat pin ? her response to my enquiry "cos it's the only language these fuckers understand "
Deport Merkel !
@Haus-Targayen
After the first hot flash of anger at these drunken young men's antics on NYE, I remembered witnessing similar things in my own youth in the crowds at Trafalgar Sq in London. None of those antics made international headlines, nor calls for white/black East End yobs to be shot on sight. This hysteria is well driven in the msm and I have to ask, "Which country or group of people hate the Germans the most?"
Deport the criminals by all means and for goodness sake stem the influx that will crush the front line services, but deport them all? Innocent women and kids who fled war and endured god knows what to get there? Think about it. They're only in Europe because of the fucking wars and terrorists the neocon zionists created in their countries with Turkey gleefully pushing the refugees, their own kind, into the Med to make trouble for us all instead of looking after them.
I give up. Everywhere I look, there are mono-browed fucks inciting hatred, spitting at the compassionate, screaming hysterics for more violence, more war, more paramilitaries, more security checks, more emergency laws to curtail freedom. All the while innocent people are suffering and calls for reasonable calm are met with derision.
The answer is send them back with $1 Trillion in war reparations to rebuild and end NATO as an organization- defund NATO and the American war machine
NeoLiberalism and its sister NWO must be destroyed
