What Trump's Wall Says To The World

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Patrick Buchanan via Buchanan.org,

“Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,” wrote poet Robert Frost in the opening line of “Mending Walls.”

And on the American left there is something like revulsion at the idea of the “beautiful wall” President Trump intends to build along the 1,900-mile border between the U.S. and Mexico.

The opposition’s arguments are usually rooted in economics or practicality. The wall is unnecessary. It will not stop people from coming illegally. It costs too much.

Yet something deeper is afoot here. The idea of a permanent barrier between our countries goes to the heart of the divide between our two Americas on the most fundamental of questions.

Who are we? What is a nation? What does America stand for?

Those desperate to see the wall built, illegal immigration halted, and those here illegally deported, see the country they grew up in as dying, disappearing, with something strange and foreign taking its place.

It is not only that illegal migrants take jobs from Americans, that they commit crimes, or that so many require subsidized food, welfare, housing, education and health care. It is that they are changing our country. They are changing who we are.

Two decades ago, the Old Right and the neocons engaged in a ferocious debate over what America was and is.

Were we from the beginning a new, unique, separate and identifiable people like the British, French and Germans?

Or was America a new kind of nation, an ideological nation, an invented nation, united by an acceptance of the ideas and ideals of Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln and Dr. King?

The Old Right contended that America existed even before the Revolution, and that this new nation, this new people, wrote its own birth certificate, the Constitution. Before Washington, Madison and Hamilton ever went to Philadelphia, America existed.

What forced the premature birth of the nation — was the Revolution.

We did not become a new nation because we embraced Jefferson’s notion about all men being “created equal.” We became a new people from our familial break with the Mother Country, described in the declaration as a severing of ties with our “brethren” across the sea who no longer deserved our loyalty or love.

The United States came into being in 1789. The Constitution created the government, the state. But the country already existed.

When the Irish came in the mid-19th century to escape the famine and the Germans to escape Bismarck’s Prussia, and the Italians, Jews, Poles, Greeks, Slovaks came to Ellis Island, they were foreigners who became citizens, and then, after a time, Americans.

Not until decades after the Great Migration of 1890-1920, with the common trials of the Depression, World War II and Cold War, were we truly forged again into one united nation and people.

By 1960, almost all of us shared the same heroes and holidays, spoke the same language and cherished the same culture.

What those with memories of that America see happening today is the disintegration of our nation of yesterday. The savagery of our politics, exemplified in the last election, testifies to how Americans are coming to detest one another as much as the Valley Forge generation came to detest the British from whom they broke free.

In 1960, we were a Western Christian country. Ninety percent of our people traced their roots to Europe. Ninety percent bore some connection to the Christian faith. To the tens of millions for whom Trump appeals, what the wall represents is our last chance to preserve that nation and people.

To many on the cosmopolitan left, ethnic or national identity is not only not worth fighting for, it is not even worth preserving. It is a form of atavistic tribalism or racism.

The Trump wall then touches on the great struggle of our age.

Given that 80 percent of all people of color vote Democratic, neither the Trump movement nor the Republican Party can survive the Third Worldization of the United States now written in the cards.

Moreover, with the disintegration of the nation we are seeing, and with talk of the breakup of states like Texas and secession of states like California, how do we survive as one nation and people?

Old Europe never knew mass immigration until the 20th century.

Now, across Europe, center-left and center-right parties are facing massive defections because they are perceived as incapable of coping with the existential threat of the age — the overrunning of the continent from Africa and the Middle East.

President Trump’s wall is a statement to the world: This is our country. We decide who comes here. And we will defend our borders.

The crisis of our time is not that some Americans are saying this, but that so many are too paralyzed to say it, or do not care, or embrace what is happening to their country.

Why isn't the wall ALREADY finished?  What's taking SO long?...

THe Mexicans refused to work on the project, the Chinese refused to supply the bricks, and the Rpublns are still fighting on who to contract it out to and how to pay for it. Its still America, Trumps just a twiter troll.

Are you for real? The republican party got votes from the third world white christian America that did not keep up technically or were screwed by the left and right and outsourced. What is keeping the country vibrant is a huge influx of educated brown people and hard working Mexicans. Go to California and Boston and New Joisey and round up any Asian origin person/Mexican who came in last 20 years and mass deport. You can kiss the American economy goodbye. Oh in recent trade fairs German embassy reps were very keen to get a bunch of us Asians to come visit.

You've got to be kidding me, you racist Christian-hating scum. lol  The truth is they had to go to a first-world country created by Whites because they couldn't building it themselves.  Go back to your nonwhite third-world homeland.

Building a wall is a band aid on a gaping wound. Illegal immigration will still exist. Mexico and states south of the border need to fix their issues to stop the mass migration. Why do governments always want to fix problems from the middle? If the cause is never addressed the cure can't happen.

Maybe it's time to buy boat builder stocks. No walls going up on any beaches.....

Some other posters seem to feel that a Wall is necessary since there will be a mass exodus from Mexico if the economy really heads south. And the Mexican economy may really head south because of a border tax (or tariffs).

I suspect that the US should see to that the wall is built before Mexico is cut off from the US market. Another solution is that some labour intensive production is moved from China to Mexico and that the US only slaps the border tax (or tariffs) on cars and other goods that generally are associated with capital intensive industries.

I also think that it is an unrealistic scenario to expect the old America to survive if the borders are closed. It´s already far too late. George Soros will have won in 15 years anyway, although probably posthumous. Perhaps the old America could survive a bit longer if states like Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska would secede from the US and if those who feel like Pat Buchanan choose to become citizens of the seceded part of the US rather than the existing US. To just bring down the percentage of non-Europeans won´t work, you also got to have a selection based on views and ideals. You got to have a larger core of people with true American values who are a bit more difficult to manipulate. It´s too easy for people who act like a group, and take control over a significant chunk of the media, to control the society if the number of people with strong, typical American ideals are too few. The more 1st and 2nd Amendment fundamentalists the American society has, the harder it is to completely control the society.

Furthermore, the US was to some extent created on a similar selection. Emigrants traded (at least emigrants from some countries) security for freedom. Even the journey across the Atlantic Ocean was risky at least up to the mid-19th century. It´s not enough to just bring in more white people, they must have an American mindset. It would probably not be difficult to make 20 million Ukrainians immigrate to some states that would have seceded from the US. But they would probably not have the same basic mentality as descendants to people who settled on the prairie in the 19th century (unless you can make a similar selection of people as 150 years ago). Furthermore, the US doesn´t need more poor people within its borders even if they are white. In the 19th century, land on the prairie had very little value without farmers. So if you brought in people, land value was automatically created. But that´s not the case today. The USA doesn´t need more people. Maybe people who are very rich or have an IQ that exceeds 180 mark can contribute something to the American society. But the rest would probably constitute a burden to other Americans.

I am more of a conservative than Trump could imagine being in his wildest dreams.  I also said two years before Trump ran that someone could pick immigration as their main reason for running and walk away with the presidency.

That being said, the wall is utter bs, presidential marketing.....and that is all.

The wall tells the world we are a country full of wussies that can't defend our own borders and can't conduct the business of our own house in an orderly and efficient manner.  We are a nation of laws, not a subdivision with a POA.  What this country needs is not an empty symbol of a Wall, but men with character and backbone enough to apply the laws on the books.  To let individuals take care of common sense business.  Men with integrity not bought and paid whores of corporate America.

Trump isn't pushing the wall thing because it is the right thing to do, he is pushing it because it gets him headlines and stirs people up.  The right thing, the common sense thing to do, is fine the hell out of companies that violate the immigration laws.  We have laws with no consequences..........if you have enough money to pay off the right people.  And those that take the pay off and are in public office, should be tried for treason and hung by the neck until dead.

I shouldn't have to "say" it.  My taxes pay people to ENFORCE it.  The problem is not that Americans don't recognize the problem or won't speak out about the problem.  The problem is to do something about it we will have to go to war with the whores in DC first.....and then we get called the bad guys.  Funny how the "rebels" in Syria are the good guys that need our equipment and support, but the "rebels" in Ukraine are "evil Russian backed separatist" that should be bombed into submission.  Now I ask you, which one would we be labeled if we tried to go around a bull shit bunch of representatives and courts that won't do their job?  You can bet we would be "racist bigoted rebel terrorist" that deserved to be hunted down and shot.  So your cop-out answer is to Build A Wall rather than do what is right.  Therefore the trend will not stop, and your Wall will be a band-aid on a cancer.

This writer is a shallow pussified crybaby who needs to dig deeper and get to the real root of the problem.  He wrote this to ride the Trump coattails on the Great Wall Fiasco, Show, Grandstand, Three Ring Circus, etc.......

Nice to see some conservatives here who can still think straight.

halcyon's picture

1. Americans (mainly born & breqad US citizens) were brought up thinking they are "exceptional", they have a "special role in God's plans" and all that other brainwashing propaganda. You can ask Russians how well that works.

2. They got too high on petrodollar recycling, world reserve currency role (exorbitant privilege), exporting printed inflation and raping all the other countries in the world for spoils with their "fucking greatest military in the world"

3. They stopped learning, got increasingly more stupid and got lazy on welfare and cheap entertainment (p?nis et circ?ns?s, Juvenal)

4. They still believe that 1700 year old fairy tale, cooked up by failing Roman emperors to control in-fighting pre-christian rubble factions.

So what do you get? Bibletards, nationalist dimwits, inwards turning xenophobes dreaming of the goold-old-times, and guys who want to "blow up shit" just because. And the rest, who would rather just forget it all and get along.

The American exmpire is failing. Can't happen soon enough. Too much corruption (Rome), too much infighing (Rome), over-stretched (ancient Greece), too high complexity and energy consumption (read Tainter's Collapse of Complex Civilizations).

Almost everybody outside US gets this. It's not rocket science. Once you actually travel and see the world for what it is, you get it too.

Is the rest of the world any better? No, just different and with one difference: the rest don't want to enforce and ram their own shit down everybody else's throat. Esp. not with guns and Hollywood crap.

After US, the vacuum will be filled by the Chinese who are more along the lines of Confuscius ("Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself."). They just work harder, have higher IQ (than even Europeans), have the demographics on their side (for at least another 15 years) and do better bilateral trade than US (they don't enforce it with guns and CIA jackals).

The rest of the world will see that as a welcome breath of fresh air.

The sooner Trump turns US inward, the better. The faster the whole house of cards collapses on its own insanity, the better.

Hell, build a HUUUUGE big wall around the whole of the US and lock everybody else out (and USA in). Throw away the key.

The rest of the world would say a big 'thank you' and go about its business.

Pissing on graves ain't right, no idea why you would think that. Wouldn't even let Anti-Christ do that. And my other two pubs Hitler and Osama know better, too. But they are generally better trained and smarter, it's really neat how well Osama can roll-over, and Hitler can bark on command.

Add it to the list of cognitive dissonance.

We do not need a wall on our borders because people coming into the country pose no safety risks.

Every person flying within the country must be stopped and searched for safety reasons.  Those arriving from foreign nations must also pass through Customs and be subjected to additional searches for safety reasons.

Such a beautiful wall.

We could, like, hang ornaments on it and stuff.

TurtleSoup's picture

It better be beautiful. In practical terms it is useless. If I'm a Mexican and want to get into the US I'll simply get a passport, buy a plane ticket. That simple.

Ignorance is bliss's picture

But if you're a Mexican hauling poor immigrants, drugs, and guns you'd have a much tougher time bringing those items into the U.S. On your Airmexican flight. Truth be told America loves and embraces the Mexican people. Mexicans are marvolous. It's the illegal shit that has become a real issue. What's interesting is that once the wall is built, the congregation of hustlers, dealers, and other underworld figures will disperse from the boarder. All sides stand to benefit.

It's sad that Whites even have to dignify it by saying it out loud that we have a right to forge our future, to keep our own culture, keep our majority in our countries.  It's sickening.  And I'm afraid the damage has already been done -- because of white people.

The Hebrews were White, and later Blacks were added by the Queen of Sheba. We fled to the British Isles - Wales was a Hebrew mining colony and Welsh is derived from the Hebrew language.

This is why the Christ-killing Khazars hate the Whites, and "steal Gentile children."

So from my perspective, the Democratic party has become the "pandering to minorities", party. White people are allowed, but they're second-class, because they don't "get" how horrible it is to be a minority.

What these idiots don't get is in many areas of the U.S. White people ARE in the minority and they're not real happy about that for good reason.

It's the pedophile homosexual satanic culture that's the problem, wherever it is: the fruit of their enslavement by the pedophile homosexual priesthood of Babylon at Vatican Hill we came to America to escape.

Black and White "whigs" founded America in express covenant with God...specifically to escape "the real Anti-Christ" "engine for enslaving mankind" which has turned Latin America into wall-to-wall brothels and slums.

"Whig" means "anti-Roman Catholic." We don't want our children being queered and raped, by pedophile priests or anyone else, and we don't want America to become wall-to-wall brothels and slums like Latin America.

Obama ran up $10 Trillion, that is $10,000 Billion in debt in 8 years.

That puts the cost of the wall at about 4.5 days of Obama Debt.
