Barbuda "Totally Demolished" After Hurricane Irma Levels 90% Of All Dwellings

Tyler Durden's picture

Having mauled the Caribbean island of St. Martin overnight, where this morning the French government said that the four "most solid" buildings have been destroyed, Hurricane Irma - now at 185mps for a record 33 straight hours - has just passed north of Puerto Rico, buffeting the US island territory’s capital, San Juan, with heavy downpours and strong winds that scattered tree limbs across roadways, but not before totally demolishing” the island of Barbuda, with 90% of all dwellings leveled, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said.

Browne said that Irma has unleashed "absolute devastation" on the island making Barbuda, home to some 1,800 people, "basically uninhabitable" with preliminary damage estimated at some $150 million.

He said that the island's communication network is 100% destroyed.

A before and after photo confirms the devastation:

"This rebuilding initiative will take years," Browne told local television after a visit to the island, where he confirmed at least one person had died due to the storm. A second storm-related fatality, that of a surfer, was reported on Barbados and the French government said at least two people were killed in Caribbean island territories of St. Martin and Saint Barthelemy.

Irma, with top sustained winds of 185 miles per hour (300 km per hour), was on track to reach Florida on Saturday or Sunday, becoming the second major hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland in as many weeks.

While Irma’s intensity could fluctuate, and its precise course remained uncertain, the storm was expected to remain at least a Category 4 before arriving in Florida.

Irma is not alone, and as reported earlier, two other hurricanes formed on Wednesday. While Katia, in the Gulf of Mexico, poses no threat to the U.S. Hurricane Jose in the open Atlantic, about 1,000 miles (1,610 km) east of the Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles islands, could also eventually threaten the U.S. mainland, a third hurricane landfall on the U.S. in under a month.

According to Reuters, Florida emergency management officials, chastened by Harvey’s devastation, began evacuations days in advance of Irma’s arrival, ordering all tourists to leave the Florida Keys, a resort archipelago off the state’s southern tip, starting Wednesday morning. Evacuation of residents from the Keys was to begin Wednesday evening.

Ed Rappaport, acting National Hurricane Center director, interviewed on Miami television station WFOR-TV, called Irma a “once-in-a-generation storm,” adding that for Florida, “It’s the big one for us.”

Chuck Watson, disaster modeler with Enki Research, said in a note that "Irma is the kind of storm where you get thousands of lives lost. This is not going to be the big slow-motion flood like Harvey - this is a real, honest-to-God hurricane."

Late on Wednesday, the eye of Irma passed just north of Puerto Rico.

“The winds that we are experiencing right now are like nothing we have experienced before,” Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello told CNN. “We expect a lot of damage, perhaps not as much as was seen in Barbuda.”

At least half of Puerto Rico’s homes and businesses lost electricity by nightfall, according to a Twitter message posted by an island utility executive. According to the Miami Herald, Puerto Rico residents could be left without power for four to six months after Hurricane Irma grazes the island.

"There are going to be blackouts. Areas that will spend three, four months without electricity," Ricardo Ramos, executive director of Puerto Rico's energy agency, said, according to the Spanish-language news agency EFE.

On its current path the core of Irma, which the Miami-based center said marked the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, was expected to scrape the northern coast of the Dominican Republic on Thursday. It was on a track that would put it near the Turks and Caicos and southeastern Bahamas by Thursday evening.

Trump, whose waterfront Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, could take a direct hit from the storm, has already approved emergency declarations for Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, mobilizing federal disaster relief efforts. He spoke with governors of all three by telephone on Wednesday, the White House said.

Florida Governor Rick Scott said Irma could be more devastating than Hurricane Andrew, a Category 5 storm that struck the state in 1992 and still ranks as one of the costliest ever in the United States.

Residents in most coastal communities of densely populated Miami-Dade County were ordered to move to higher ground beginning at 9 a.m. ET (1300 GMT) on Thursday, Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced on Wednesday. The evacuation orders will affect more than 100,000 residents, the Miami Herald reported. Miami-Dade has a population of 2.7 million.

Scott told a news conference in the Keys that 7,000 National Guard troops would report for duty on Friday, ahead of the storm’s expected arrival. Statewide emergency declarations were issued in both North and South Carolina, and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal declared an emergency for six coastal counties in anticipation of Irma’s arrival.

The list of you (scientists) that have come out of hiding and have exposed the political agenda behind your fraudulent claims and edited and censored data is long and growing each day.

Science is not a liberal conspiracy theory.

But many "scientists" are nothing more than propagandists and liars.

Subliminal messenger's picture

Nonsense. The same claims were made after the exceptional hurricane season of 2005 and the next few seasons were pretty quiet.

I don't think your point is proven by two above average hurricane seasons 12 years apart.

Anyway, we still have to see whether this one is actually exceptional. The caused damage and loss of life have little to do with the number and severity of the hurricanes.

The irony of that is commercial properties actually are insured and the corporate structure will greatly benefit from a total rebuild, the little people, not so much, so while they cheer, their sales will flatline and Trumpsters developments will be rebuilt in grand style

It increasingly looks like time is up, and that solar eclipse was in fact a warning after all...

All of creation bears My signature and responds to the commands of their Maker, the Great I AM. I have put signs in the heavens, the sun, stars and moon that foretell My story and design, and that have been placed there for you in order that you know the season you are in.

This past solar eclipse that was witnessed in your country of the United States signified and marked great change for your nation and its people. I have been lenient and I have been merciful, in that My warnings have been proclaimed for some time now, calling the wicked to repentance and chastening those whom I love. No longer will your country see leniency, as I now bring forth judgment to an unrepentant people as you have witnessed with this storm Harvey. My sign in the heavens for the eclipse was your harbinger, announcing the immediate beginning of great judgment for your land.

I not only cause the earth to shake, the wind to roar, and the water to bring upheaval as all the elements of this earth belong to Me, but I also allow evil mankind to use weaponized technology against you to bring about the punishments I have so long forewarned about.

Do you now see how My words are being fulfilled before your very eyes and My words do not come back void?

This is only the beginning. I am removing My arm of protection from a people ignorant of My ways and slothful in all manner of living. This land will suffer greatly and be severely punished for all its transgressions. Not only does the blood of the innocent scream out to Me for justice, but the filth of the wicked will no longer now go without recompense.

For those who have waited for My instructions with an obedient heart and will, listen very closely now. Many of you will be told to leave densely populated areas now in advance of what comes next.

Intercessors, pray fervently as many will suffer, many will die in need of a Savior. Pray for these as often and continually as you are able.

There are entities all around you now that are not what they appear to be. I tell you, as it was in the days of Noah, so it is today. There are beings amongst you that are not of Me, not made in My image, and not fully human, although they appear to be. You are living in the time where iron has been mixed with clay, and in an attempt to make himself like Me, your adversary *asatan, (see below) has used forbidden knowledge to bring about vessels through which he can control and manipulate, instruments of death and destruction, with the sole purpose of destroying you, that which I have poured My Spirit into and created in My image; and, to elevate himself to a god-like stature, as he believes he can and will rule the earth and have his dominion here. This is an abomination in My sight!

I will speak more of this very soon, as this technology that has already been presented and is being utilized by many across the world will alter your very DNA, and you will be separated from Me forever, should you take this into your body. This beast system will strip you of ways of life you have become accustomed to and try to force this technology on you or you will not work, and you will not even be able to eat. Fear will drive men mad, as they comply with anything that will satisfy and gratify immediate needs, without understanding the implications of their choices.

Stand ready My army as you will go forth to witness and minister amongst chaos and destruction, bringing My light to the lost, as the darkness attempts to consume them.

There is something that has always puzzled me about that doctrine.  Why would "Yahushua" allow "asatan" to do the things he does if the things he does cause pain, suffering, and damnation for those whom "Yahushua" loves so dearly?  I mean, I get the idea of self determination and being judged for the things you do but the idea that we are thrown into a meat grinder when the machine could simply be turned off seems a bit gratuitious to me.

The other seemingly logical option is that perhaps "Yahashua" is not as all powerful as he claims to be and therefore is unable to smite down "asatan" at will.

After all, God gave us reason.  It seems silly not to use it.

erkme73's picture

You nailed it bro.  That's exactly why I abandoned my religion.  I cannot rationalize that enough good comes from having a 5yo kid battle cancer from day one, only to suffer through 5 years of surgeries, greuling chemo/radiation, and ultimately die disfigured and in grotesque pain... While an 'all loving, all good' God watches on.  A God that is so omni-present that he knows (and thereby authorizes) everything that happens.

Some say, "Well you don't know what good might have come from that kid's suffering."  Bullshit.  I don't care if the entire human race gains salvation through that act.  It's an innocent 5yo child that has NO say in his health.  If that's what this all-loving all-powerful God has/wants to do to save anyone/everyone, then that is no God I want to serve.

justa minute's picture

that is good you abandoned your religion now actually read the Bible for yourself and maybe find the true God not the one you heard about in your religion classes.

erkme73's picture

So I can be a condescending judgemental bible-thumper like you?  Thanks, but I've had enough hypocrisy to last a lifetime.

But, since you want to talk "bible" sure... let's look at this one:

Romans 13:1-3
New International Version (NIV)
Romans 13
Submission to Governing Authorities
1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.

Your Bible instructs me to obey my government.  Get that?  In essence, when Paul wrote the book of Romans - or more appropriately, when the stodgy old men at the Council of Carthage (397 AD)  decided which letters to canonize - he found an effective way to have the masses obey man's law, even when they weren't being watched.  After all, what's better than to get all your citizens to believe there's a supreme being watching you ALL THE TIME - who will judge you for not following THEIR (man's) laws?  It couldn't be any more clear to me why religion - all religion - exists.

tion's picture

So the thing about Paul is, he is just Paul. He's not God, he's not Jesus, he is an imperfect man who tried to do his best and meant well, but he is no authorized writer of Law nor is he capable of saving anyone. Sure some Christians would tell me what an awful Christian I am for saying such a thing, but IDGAF because it's not them who I will be standing before.

Men who would claim to be authorized to write Law, give Salvation, or cast Judgement, are either fools who lack Wisdom and have shown disdain to the Holy Spirit, or are corrupted by Wickedness.

I don't think he meant to condescend you, it's hard to 'read' people over the interwebs. I get where you are coming from but I hope if you ever feel so moved you will consider opening it up again to mine for some nuggets of proverbial gold. No judgment being cast here, I love you and Jesus loves you too <3

bloofer's picture

Indeed. Religion is a filter (one of many) to keep you from seeing things as they are, to blind you to the way things really work. It's a lot like viewing the world through a dirty windshield--a very dirty windshield. If you clean your windshield of all the words and images scribbled all over it, you will be able to see clearly. But this involves not being able to make much sense of a lot of things for awhile, and not being able to make sense of some things at all. This is pretty disturbing, as it involves relinquishing the idea that you have some kind of operative knowledge about--and therefore some control of--the universe and the many events of your life that fall under the heading of "imponderables." And there are a lot of those.

StychoKiller's picture

Okay, so don't obey the Govt and its Law(s) -- just be ready to deal with the consequences.

Anyway, cool blog post, I bet you have most of your net worth in poop coins. You DO realize that your childish philosophical quandary has been thought of before right? You're just a lazy and mentally slow cunt.

Withdrawn Sanction's picture

That is a tough one, no question about it. But isn't the real fault for the child's suffering, the parents and medical establishment who relied on barbaric "treatment" modalities that almost guarantee the cancer's return even if it goes into remission? First, do no harm...unless you're an oncologist.

Bigern's picture

First, Satan cannot do as he wishes, as if God is limited in some way. That is a perversion of sound doctrine, a clever lie that is thrust upon the world by its prince. Satan is only able to do what God allows. There is absolutely nothing that God cannot put a stop to if He so desires.

Second, why does God allow the fallen angels, evil spirits (demons), and Satan to continue existence?

They are a filter. One must make a choice of who and what they desire to follow. Without the existence of these entities, one cannot understand the full implications of a decision to follow the Father. Without the light AND the dark, one is incapable of discerning good from evil. Without this discernment, one is operating in a lie, wide open to deception and destruction. To be sober, one must receive the entirety of the Word, not just the feel-good flowers.

What kind of love would we have for a God that created us, not having taught, disciplined, refined, and watched over us? How can one appreciate love without a clear choice made to give it freely? For one to freely give love, they must have the capacity to do the opposite of love, otherwise they are a slave without a consciousness. The forces of darkness represent that opposite choice. The filter.

As perfection, God cannot be wrong, therefore there can be no falsehood in Him. Anything in opposition to God is therefore a lie. This is why the world is so adept at turning what God has deemed good into evil, and what God has called evil into good. If evil and sin were wiped away by God without repentance and acceptance of Christ on our part, then what value would our allegiance to God be? It would be a vile mockery. What self-respecting God would give Salvation to a people who rejected His offering of grace and mercy through the sacrifice of His only Son? His spirit is pure righteousness, and so being cannot be tarnished by the stain of one who rejects the work of the Cross.

One cannot appreciate love without realizing what the Cross truly means. We are all depraved creatures, unrighteous to the last. Condemned. Yeshua HaMashiach is perfection. He did take all condemnation that we deserved onto Himself, and suffered unknowable anguish, descended to the pit, and did it so that we could all be made clean in the Father's eyes. Until one fully embraces the fact that they deserve death, they cannot appreciate the substitution that Jesus of Nazareth made for them on the Cross.

There are no enemies among fellow man, as no man can destroy the soul of another, but only the flesh. The flesh is perishable and weak. Soon we can put on the unperishable. Time is short friends. There is only one enemy. Leviathan, the Dragon of the sea, Prince of the air, Accuser of the brethren, Fleeing serpent, also known as Satan. From him hatred flows as waters of a flood. Those who drown in it will drown forever.

BringOnTheAsteroid's picture

Why does god allow an innocent child to suffer so horribly, so gratuitously and in such abject horror.

Only evil would allow this. Only a cunt would allow this. Putting two and two together god must be an evil cunt and can go suck a bag of dicks.

OverTheHedge's picture

Stephen Fry puts it more eloquently than I ever could:

I hope there isn't a god. Really. Because, if there is, he is obviously a lunatic, murdering psychopath. Nothing about creation says anything other than god is mad. Every single living thing is in grave danger of being violently murdered and eaten. Allegedly, up to 80% of all organisms end up as lunch for other organisms. And you want to worship this insanity as a good and loving, caring deity? I choose something else (but not Heroin, if that's ok).

What happens to all the earths people who never heard of Jehovah?
Mayans, Incas, Babylonians, etc.

Are they living in hell because of ignorance?

Why no mention of dinosaurs or Cro-Magnon/Neanderthals?

You think it could be because their remains hadn't been discovered yet?

I was raised in a very religious home. I constantly asked these questions to everyone I knew. Never got an answer

Why would a caring, loving God send ignorant people to eternal damnation?

Bigern's picture

Everyone will know the truth of who God is before they can be judged. One who is ignorant of the truth is incapable of being so judged. The love of God will not condemn the ignorant. This is why children are saved. A child can suffer in the flesh, yet the soul is never harmed. The soul has command over the flesh, a tacit fact so universally denied by the world today.

The truth requires no defense. Many people are not ready for it, as they are still struggling with what the world has put in their mind. This is why God gives them another day. His mercy is boundless. In the end, it is people who make their choices.

The mentality that we live in a cruel world is indeed true. Creatures eat each other, violence abounds, and mankind is a brutal nest of vipers. Where people get off track is when they believe that the creation to be worshipped more than the creator. If the soul is eternal, and the flesh is a mere vehicle to advance the journey, then the flesh is a temporary placeholder. People worship their flesh because they are instructed to do so, believing that eternity will reside in it or nothing.

Implied Violins's picture

FUCK your worthless "God". I don't care how much truth may be in that post, ANY "God" that threatens and causes fear is no God of mine. How many thousands of years has this kind of mind-control bullshit caged the minds of mankind?

How many worthless religious texts are there that are the supposed 'word of God', but which end up doing nothing but pitting one group of people against another? I am SICK of this BULLSHIT, and I pray for humanity's sake that they are, too.

We are ALL a part of God, and will do FAR more working together without regard to supposed 'higher beings' than any groups that give over their will to anything or anyone outside of themselves that they can't even prove exists.

Much of the religious delusional system is caused by the human compulsion to try to make sense of things. This compulsion works well for many enterprises and leads to fine things such as indoor plumbing, electric light bulbs, improved food production, buildings that don't fall down, etc.

Religion tries to extrapolate this this idea of operative knowledge into realms in which little or no actual operative knowledge exists: You can influence outcomes, not by employing the laws of physics, but by being very, very good--or obeying rules set down by others.

These "rules set down by others" arise from operative knowledge of another sort: Namely that you can get people to behave in ways that are very much to your own advantage (and their disadvantage) by convincing them you have the keys to the workings of the universe, and if they'll just do what you say, security and prosperity will be theirs. The shoe is manifestly on the other foot.
