Trump Press Secretary Says DOJ "Should Look Into" Prosecution Of James Comey

Tyler Durden's picture

With all the talk of hurricanes now officially behind us (at least for now), the media was once again able to return to its favorite topic at today's daily press briefing with Sarah Sanders: Russia.  And with Steve Bannon recently referring to it as the biggest mistake "in modern political history," today seemed like the perfect time to once again ask Sanders for her thoughts on the Comey dismissal.

Luckily, for our entertainment purposes at least, Sanders didn't back down from a question from a New York Times reporter about President Trump's current thinking on Comey's firing.

“The president is proud of the decision that he made.  The president was 100 percent right in firing James Comey. He knew it could be bad for him politically and felt he had an obligation to do what was right for the American people and men and women at the FBI.”

“I think there is no secret Comey by his own self-admission leaked privileged government information weeks before president Trump fired him Comey testified that an FBI agent engaged in the same practice would face serious repercussions.  His actions were improper. He leaked memos to 'New York Times.' He signaled he would exonerate Hillary Clinton before interviewing her. He is very happy with the decision he made.”

Meanwhile, in a followup question on whether Comey should be prosecuted for his potentially illegal actions, Sanders, once again, did not disappoint.

"That's not the President's role.  That's the job of the Department of Justice and something they should certainly look at."

“I think if there was ever a moment where we feel someone has broken law, particularly if they are the head of the FBI, I think that's certainly something that should be looked at."

Of course, we can hear the Left's screams of 'witness intimidation' already echoing from the halls of Congress...

Trump Press Secretary Says DOJ "Should Look Into" Prosecution Of James Comey

My response: I AGREE COMPLETE. Mueller should also be dismissed and invetigation CLOSED!!!!

NoDebt's picture

Agreed.  Crack that fucker Comey open and see who spills out.  He's a fucking stool pigeon.  I can see it in his eyes- he'll crack and give up the goods.

(Note:  This will never happen.  I'm just enjoying the fantasy.)

Manthong's picture

WTF… this is news?

somebody is going to give it up sooner or later......

maybe when Sac puts a good text editor in.

Ajax-1's picture

I would love to see Comey do the "Perp Walk" in handcuffs. He was a dirty cop.

Manthong's picture

maybe a .45 in the back of the head would be a better HC solution.

oh...... HC stands for "High Cunt"

IH8OBAMA's picture

...And Hillary, Lynch, Holder, Koskinen, Lerner, Rice, et al.

Manthong's picture

gosh ......  how moooler and his staff of dozens of Clintonites are allowed to stay working for millions of dollars of our tax money is a complete mystery.

chubbar's picture

OT, but if anyone wants to get a belly laugh, check out this article.

Bwhahaha! The US is going to cut China off from trade, the US dollar and it's financial system! This is rich! The fucking retards in DC have offshored all our industry, mostly to China and half the reason the US dollar is even relevant in foreign trade is because of China. How fucking stupid are these folks in DC?

"The US could impose economic sanctions on China if it does not implement the new sanctions regime against North Korea, the US Treasury Secretary has warned. Steven Mnuchin said the restrictions could involve cutting off Beijing’s access to the US financial system.

“North Korea economic warfare works,” Mnuchin said Tuesday at the Delivering Alpha Conference in New York City. “We sent a message that anybody who wanted to trade with North Korea – we would consider them not trading with us.”

navy62802's picture

Yep. Mueller's schoolyard adventure should be shut down. He has had enough fun and wasted enough tax dollars. Time to stop wasting money on a fishing expedition.

General Titus's picture

Question. Why hasn't Sessions prosecuted, Hillary, Clinton Foundation, Rice, Lynch, Oozo, & Comey?

Is it because the american hating cultural marxist DemocRats have dirt on sessions and are balckmailing him?

Or is he setting them up for all of them to go down?

Manthong's picture

gosh... that is so depressing to think of.....

I have been wondering why that AG has not been more agresive.

Trump... do what you know best..     FIRE HIS ASS

Most people do not know that one does not need to be a lawyer to be a feral/federal or SCOTUS judge….

If Trump got his gonads up… Bannon would be a cool choice for SCOTUS.

swmnguy's picture

Why did you say, "Trump... do what you know best..     FIRE HIS ASS"?

I'm not aware of Trump's actually ever firing anybody.  I know that was his character's catchphrase on the TV show, but we do know that was all scripted, don't we?  I mean, we don't actually think we ought to name Kiefer Sutherland to be Director of the CIA, do we?

So far, the people who have been "fired" from the White House mostly claim they resigned, and they didn't have the conversation with Trump but with one of his handservants.  And that's the story from people who've worked for Trump for decades; he never fires anybody but they have to do it, sometimes over and over again because if the person fired begs Trump for his job back, Trump usually undermines his underlings.

And what does Bannon know about law?  I mean, why not Bill Murray for SCOTUS?  He's super-cool.

It's all very well and fun to be snarky, but being relentlessly facetious about important things isn't very satisfying in the long run.  Fictional characters don't do real-world tasks very well.

Bloody place is crawling with paid vipers. What is there about this to downvote?

XWeatherman's picture

Comey should at the least go down for obstruction of justice because of his FAKE investigation of Clinton and his exoneration of Hitlery on TV based on totally inappropriate excuses.

They should all go to the same prison.

FoggyWorld's picture

The theory being touted is that a new administration just shouldn't prosecute the one that came before them so that in turn when their time is up they know they will not be prosecuted either.

Charming theory that keeps them permanently useless.

General Titus's picture

Comey stated "He" purposely leaked anti-Trump "Russia" propaganda to get congress to launch a investigation/special prosecutor who happens to be a DemcRat friend of Comey's.

Obozo's last speech as president the night before Trump took office, was that it was a DNC leak (Seth Rich) not Hillary's & the Pedo Podesta's friends Russian hack

Blue Steel 309's picture

I am getting a little sick of this false pretense that there are departments on the Executive Branch that the President has no control over.

If the President wants the DOJ to prosecute someone, all he has to do is order it. Don't like it? Tell congress to pare back the obscene power the Federal government has usurped.

Duc888's picture

Sessions must have died or something..... I see no sign of him doing anything.

chubbar's picture

Exactly! And the problem with this observation is that if Sessions isn't inclined to do anything about the head of the FBI committing felonies, then even if Sessions is shamed into prosecuting him, it'll look a lot like when Comey investigated Hillary. Nothing is going to happen here, Sessions is crooked.

Son of Loki's picture

Comey already admitted he broke the law.

Is Sessons the most incompetent AG ever?

Or what?

NoDebt's picture

Worthless as a tits on a bull.  Had high expectations for him going in but he IS the establishment incarnate.  Nobody is going to see a trial much less the inside of a jail cell under him.

Oldwood's picture

Sessions has a long career in the swamp and while he was far from the worst of it, he will never be able to reputiate it. He IS it.

Blue Boat's picture

I think Jay Sekulow would lick his chops to have the DOJ top job. And he's plenty pissed about all of corruption; he's go after them.

FoggyWorld's picture

Unfortunately, he would never get confirmed.

Now, be careful. I'm very sensitive on that subject.

lester1's picture

I'm convinced AG Jeff Sessions is a part of pedogate scandal, and if he started putting people in jail, someone would rat him out.

Ajax-1's picture

President Trump should have hired Trey Gowdy as Attorney General. He would have been an ass kicker.

GooseShtepping Moron's picture

I don't know why people keep saying this. Trey Gowdy folded like a lawn chair at the Benghazi hearings. Sweating and stuttering, it was plain he had no desire to go after Hillary Clinton, and yet quite a few people still think of him as their Great White Hope.

swmnguy's picture

Gowdy obviously, flagrantly, had not one idea what the fuck he was talking about in those hearings.  Not a fucking clue.  He said not one word about what was really going on at the US Consulate in Benghazi.  Or he was lying out his ass, and couldn't come up with anything coherent to say once he totally denied the truth.

Of course, none of what Hillary or anyone else did or didn't do makes any sense at all if you pretend you don't know what was happening there.

As usual, the truth is far more ominous than the silly-ass conspiracy theories tossed around the seedier neighborhoods of the right-wing-web.  But the wishful-thinking crowd likes their "truth" pre-chewed for them so they don't have to think.  It's too bad; a real investigation of Benghazi would bring down the whole house of cards.  But instead, it turned inot a penny-ante, juvenile partisan pissing contest, and a boring one at that.

Here's the scary truth we'd all rather pretend isn't true.  Hillary hasn't been arrested because everything Hillary did is lawful.

If we have a problem with that, perhaps we should take a look at why such behavior is lawful.  Or we can just point fingers, call names, and vote for fictional characters on scripted TV shows.

RumpleShitzkin's picture

Yeah. Server in the shitter with classified docs on it is lawful.

Fuck off with that shit, range rider.

Oldwood's picture

Republicans are all public "performers" and as such they feign contempt and disgust for their "opposition" but only to the extent to motivate voters and contributors. They will always stop short of actual meaningful action as they accept that the blowback from the media is simply more than they think they can bear. Meanwhe the left plays them as the evil threat that they use for their own motivational tool.

They to.idly supported Trump believing his rhetoric was a stage show like their own, but they have found him serious in his agenda, and they have attempted to stop him at every chance. They fear leftist media retribution, regardless of if Trump appears bulletproof, and will happily sacrifice him to save these lies.

What they are ignoring is that they are already dead, zombies, still in their suites and offices, but still.....dead dead dead.

Ajax-1's picture

To his credit, Trey Gowdy's cross examination of James Comey was delivered with laser like precision. He ripped into James Comey by essentially laying out a criminal indictment targeting Hillary Clinton.

Gowdy: Good morning, Director Comey. Secretary Clinton said she never sent or received any classified information over her private e-mail, was that true?

Comey: Our investigation found that there was classified information sent.

Gowdy: It was not true?

Comey: That's what I said.

Gowdy: OK. Well, I'm looking for a shorter answer so you and I are not here quite as long. Secretary Clinton said there was nothing marked classified on her e-mails sent or received. Was that true?

Comey: That's not true. There were a small number of portion markings on I think three of the documents.

Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said "I did not e-mail any classified information to anyone on my e-mail there was no classified material." That is true?

Comey: There was classified information emailed.

Gowdy: Secretary Clinton used one device, was that true?

Comey: She used multiple devices during the four years of her term as Secretary of State.

Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said all work related emails were returned to the State Department. Was that true?

Comey: No. We found work related email, thousands, that were not returned.

Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said neither she or anyone else deleted work related emails from her personal account.

Comey: That's a harder one to answer. We found traces of work related emails in — on devices or in space. Whether they were deleted or when a server was changed out something happened to them, there's no doubt that the work related emails that were removed electronically from the email system.

Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said her lawyers read every one of the emails and were overly inclusive. Did her lawyers read the email content individually?

Comey: No.

Gowdy: Well, in the interest of time and because I have a plane to catch tomorrow afternoon, I'm not going to go through any more of the false statements but I am going to ask you to put on your old hat. Faults exculpatory statements are used for what?

Comey: Well, either for a substantive prosecution or evidence of intent in a criminal prosecution.

Gowdy: Exactly. Intent and consciousness of guilt, right?

Comey: That is right?

GooseShtepping Moron's picture

That much is true. He was a lot more motivated when questioning Comey, probably because Comey is so unlikeable it's hard not to want to stick it to him. If I was cross examing James Comey, I doubt I could conceal my contempt either.

Oliver Klozoff's picture

Comey is one of those tall fucks who used his height to intimidate others.

He curled up like a plastic wrapper tossed in a fire when lynch stared him down.

Gen. Ripper's picture

Little Trey is all cowboy no hat - show me one deal he closed?

FoggyWorld's picture

Congress can't really close deals the way AG's can.   Congress can put spotlights on people and issues but they have no power to prosecute.  Gowdy in the AG's office would be a tiger.   He has a proven track record that shows that from before his run for Congress.

Gowdy would never sleep all day as Sessions seems to.  Certainly worth a shot but is Trump up to it?
