Is Cashin Cashin' In On Obama?

Tyler Durden's picture

The Chairman of the fermentation committee, Art Cashin, usually keeps a very apolitical, sober (metaphorically speaking at least) and cool head on, as all veteran traders should. Which is why we were quite stunned to notice that even the NYSE floor veteran may have finally crossed the Rubicon in his political observations. And if Art feels this way, one wonders just how the other Wall Street players, whose voices have far less need to be moderate, really feel...

From UBS Financial Markets:

A Perfect Image – We don't usually comment on political speeches but having written and delivered several hundred business and retirement speeches over five decades, we think we know a good image or phrase when we hear one.

Here, thanks to our good friend, Dennis Gartman, is a home run from Paul Ryan's speech:

College graduates should not have to live out their 20’s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at the fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get on with their life.

Wow!

The reason this is notable is simple: recall that the one catalyst that could throw the presidential election, that many already say is a slam dunk for Obama, into a tailspin is the S&P crashing in the months, weeks or days heading into November. Certainly this fact is not lost on Wall Street. And what is Wall Street best known for? Why sending markets higher or lower, without regard for fundamentals, logic, or anything else for that matter. Will it, and by implication, its Fed muppets, do all in their powers to do just that: crash stocks and kill Obama's reelection chances?

We don't know, but those October and November puts looks increasingly more attractive.

Like Ryan could fix anything - all he can do is lie. Even the MSM is finally catching on - if it comes out of his mouth, odds are good it is a lie.

As for slash and burn Mittens - like he would do anything for college grads. They would end up with even higher debts under his plans, and probably be sold off to China as slaves.

Obama's Hope & Change has faded away.

Obama's Hope & Change faded before he was elected.  The focus of his message was decided upon long before the campaign season started.  But something happened during the campaign that was a game changer.  Unfortunately, it was too late for the Obama campaign to change its game plan and message.  The "Hope and Change" approach was dead on arrival - because other matters were more pressing when Obama took office.

This is not a defense of Obama.  It is a defense of logic.

When you promise your wife in the morning that you will mow the lawn when you get home from work, and when you get home from work you discover that your house is on fire, which is more logical:  keep the promise to mow the lawn, or abandon it and fight the fire instead?  If you abandon the promise to mow the lawn, is it logical to criticize you for doing so?

Here, I'll fix it for ya: When you promise your wife in the morning you will take her out for a romantic dinner and dancing after you get home from work, but you go out drinking with your buddies at strip clubs instead. You come home at 7am hungover, and smelling of another woman's perfume, complete with lipstick EVERYWHERE. Thats what Obama did to those stupid enough to trust him. Of course, NOT TO DEFEND OBAMA OR ANYTHING! Yeah, right.

Do you think the country Obama inherited when he became President was the country he expected to inherit when he decided to run for President?

I'm not commenting on whether Obama has been an effective President.  I'm pointing out that the Hope and Change slogan adopted early in his run for President was not an appropriate slogan for the situation the country was in by the time Obama became President.  It is not logical to hold Obama accountable to a slogan that was out of synch with the situation that the country had suddenly found itself in when Obama became President.

These comments are about the slogan, not Obama.

Wow!

Yeah, great stuff.  You know what would have been great?  It would have been great if former prosecutor Chris Christie, upon finishing his speech and walking away from the podium had suddenly turned around and and walked back to the microphone.  If he had paused and said, "One more thing.  As the Governor of New Jersey and a former prosecutor, I will never understand how it's possible in America that Jon Corzine walks free."

Yes, but as Governor of New Jersey, can't he "suggest" to one of his state prosecutors to start up an invesigation on Corzine?

Although I do understand that it is dangerous for a politician to go after his predecessor (because the next Governor could go after Christie, this might also explain why Obama has not gone after George Bush), Corzine is SO BAD that this one looks like a slam-dunk...

College graduates should not have to live out their 20’s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at the fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get on with their life. – Dennis Gartman

The clever quips from the political class (Paul Ryan et cetera) written by a new class of speech writers are fashioned to entrap unsuspecting low-information voters. And America’s two leading political parties are so corrupted, how could anyone believe their sincerity?

The Republicans (and Paul Ryan could be the poster boy) pretend to be small government dragon killers but they are in truth the warmonger dragons. Of the world’s total military spending, the U.S. accounts for 46 percent. And Ryan the Cost Cutter, who allegedly is “for small government,” will threaten the retirees but leave this giant war machine budget untouched because of the U.S./Israel foreign policy compact. This fact alone identifies the Republican Party as no other can.

In the next corner, the Democrat Party is the party for the people: translation - the people who will vote Democrat.  The Democrats favor a complete welfare society where wealth produced by anybody can be redistributed to selected groups on a group basis.

And what is the ultimate aim of both parties? It’s the same ultimate compact. Both parties are in the complete employ of the international bankers, neither party willing to cut the burden on the taxpayer if it jeopardizes the oligarchs’ war machine. And their main target for tax billing, of course, is the same target: that middle class guy making $100,000 or more -- the ”rich.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOdIqKsv624 - Mario Cuomo 1984

Almost 30 some years ago (and the year which references in our mind Orwell)  and we fast forward to today - same tapes, pause, rewind, play.  Cuomo should have been the nominee - the candidate.  But those were back in the days when anyone of Italian heritage - well, out of the question.   Ryan was formidable last night: except for the constant catch in his throat - nerves? a cold? hyper nasality, more likely Tourettes - all those clicks and tics - get thee to the mental health provider before we repeal all health care.   He gave a pretty speech - but then John McConnell is one of the better speech writers.  There were a few "poetic" passages:

"It all started off with stirring speeches, Greek columns, the thrill of something new. Now all that’s left is a presidency adrift, surviving on slogans that already seem tired, grasping at a moment that has already passed, like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind."

Sounds a bit plagiarized - an Oliver Wendell Holmes quote the ship and yesterday's wind but I would have to check. Note the Greek debt tie in - way too deliberate - a stretch.   "We believe that in every life there is goodness; for every person, there is hope. Each one of us was made for a reason, bearing the image and likeness of the Lord of Life."  Ayn Rand would not approve of her disciple.  But alas, both were a little too contorted, too complex to see - they should have dusted off the mothballed Peggie Noonan "the shining city on the hill"  - now that is a simple memorable line.  The real problem was as we would say in the old audit world - substance vs form - all form no substance.   Or as a Jewish garment salesman I once knew would say " where's the goods, show me the goods."

Politics does make for strange bedfellows - Mitt the Mormon, flanked by two Catholics, the Lean Mean Austerity P90X Ryan Machine and the bloviating gas bag Christie.

In that certain part of America, where the coded "take back the country" speaks to the racist red south as well as the old New England WASP establishment in volumes. Let's remember child labor in the old north east and immigrant garment workers toiling in harsh factory conditions (typically a 7 yr indentured agreement) - sewing farm clothes for the slaves - who were too valuable to bringing in the crop to sew their own.

This long history together in the literal as well as the metaphorical. The mentality of privilege, status, rank - all granted and given by God, even if the God of the north slightly differed from that of the south. Exploitation and victimization, usage and usury, capitalization to its pinnacle the commoditization of human beings – the machine.

So this unholy alliance of big establishment with the deep red racist south, a natural.

Maybe it is the logical extrapolation of the American dream, "go west young man" the pioneer rugged individual conquers all - quite fitting here comes the American prophet via a Mormon.

Didn't Boehner stated it in simple terms, just a little short of the implied "throw the lazy black bum out."

But Obama knew what he was in for - always a placeholder - he wanted his place in history - so he got the keys to the castle when there were no gold bars left.

"Blame the black man in the hoodie"  history has such high costs.

A night of reaching back to that false sense of white supremacy - shameful in its predictability.

They should crash the markets. That would give the Obama administration impetus to mass-arrest the bankers for fraud and become the hero, thereby crushing Romney.

Wouldn't the stronger voice be to leave the box for President empty and vote anyone BUT a dem or rep?

You are all either retards or disingenuous double-agents (like Michael) because you all miss the salient point.

Who do you want in office when it all falls apart in the next four years, and martial law is declared (for whatever reason)?  Do you want a slimy, sleazy,  Marxist who hates this country and all that it ever stood for or do you want somebody who at least leans the way we used to be, (even if he is bought and paid for)?

Obummer is capable of abject horrors, if he gains total power.  He could kill millions of Americans and not blink an eye.  That is not the case with Romney.

It is your choice, your family.  If you want guaranteed Gotterdamerung for Americans, then Obummer is your guy.

(And since we seem to have our fair share of anarchists on this site that very well may be the case).

"Will it, and by implication, its Fed muppets, do all in their powers to do just that: crash stocks and kill Obama's reelection chances?"

If they want BB fired then yes, but I think they'll juice the markets for BO.
