Is Cashin Cashin' In On Obama?
The Chairman of the fermentation committee, Art Cashin, usually keeps a very apolitical, sober (metaphorically speaking at least) and cool head on, as all veteran traders should. Which is why we were quite stunned to notice that even the NYSE floor veteran may have finally crossed the Rubicon in his political observations. And if Art feels this way, one wonders just how the other Wall Street players, whose voices have far less need to be moderate, really feel...
From UBS Financial Markets:
A Perfect Image – We don't usually comment on political speeches but having written and delivered several hundred business and retirement speeches over five decades, we think we know a good image or phrase when we hear one.
Here, thanks to our good friend, Dennis Gartman, is a home run from Paul Ryan's speech:
College graduates should not have to live out their 20’s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at the fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get on with their life.
Wow!
The reason this is notable is simple: recall that the one catalyst that could throw the presidential election, that many already say is a slam dunk for Obama, into a tailspin is the S&P crashing in the months, weeks or days heading into November. Certainly this fact is not lost on Wall Street. And what is Wall Street best known for? Why sending markets higher or lower, without regard for fundamentals, logic, or anything else for that matter. Will it, and by implication, its Fed muppets, do all in their powers to do just that: crash stocks and kill Obama's reelection chances?
We don't know, but those October and November puts looks increasingly more attractive.

Jon Corzine Will Not Only Not Face Prosectuion, But May Be Launching A Hedge Fund Imminently

Art's head is cool cuz it always has an ice bag on it.
Like Ryan could fix anything - all he can do is lie. Even the MSM is finally catching on - if it comes out of his mouth, odds are good it is a lie.
As for slash and burn Mittens - like he would do anything for college grads. They would end up with even higher debts under his plans, and probably be sold off to China as slaves.
Paul Ryan's '30 year plan' lol.

What's the best part about screwing(over) twenty three year olds?
There's 20 of 'em!
Yeah, it was a great line & metaphor.
Obama's Hope & Change has faded away.
Obama's Hope & Change faded before he was elected. The focus of his message was decided upon long before the campaign season started. But something happened during the campaign that was a game changer. Unfortunately, it was too late for the Obama campaign to change its game plan and message. The "Hope and Change" approach was dead on arrival - because other matters were more pressing when Obama took office.
This is not a defense of Obama. It is a defense of logic.
When you promise your wife in the morning that you will mow the lawn when you get home from work, and when you get home from work you discover that your house is on fire, which is more logical: keep the promise to mow the lawn, or abandon it and fight the fire instead? If you abandon the promise to mow the lawn, is it logical to criticize you for doing so?
Here, I'll fix it for ya: When you promise your wife in the morning you will take her out for a romantic dinner and dancing after you get home from work, but you go out drinking with your buddies at strip clubs instead. You come home at 7am hungover, and smelling of another woman's perfume, complete with lipstick EVERYWHERE. Thats what Obama did to those stupid enough to trust him. Of course, NOT TO DEFEND OBAMA OR ANYTHING! Yeah, right.
Do you think the country Obama inherited when he became President was the country he expected to inherit when he decided to run for President?
I'm not commenting on whether Obama has been an effective President. I'm pointing out that the Hope and Change slogan adopted early in his run for President was not an appropriate slogan for the situation the country was in by the time Obama became President. It is not logical to hold Obama accountable to a slogan that was out of synch with the situation that the country had suddenly found itself in when Obama became President.
These comments are about the slogan, not Obama.
Okay, here's a comment about Obama, and not about any stinkin' slogan; Obama Sucks!. Got it? Good.
Who would vote for "Please put your seats in the upright position and brace for impact. Watch the video and follow the instructions, because your flight attendants and captain Bush have already exited. Thank you for flying AIG."?
The ZH crowd needs to get out of the shitty city now and then.
"Slam dunk for Obama?"
Barry blows goats.
The "Magic Negro" act is wearing thin.
Wow!
Yeah, great stuff. You know what would have been great? It would have been great if former prosecutor Chris Christie, upon finishing his speech and walking away from the podium had suddenly turned around and and walked back to the microphone. If he had paused and said, "One more thing. As the Governor of New Jersey and a former prosecutor, I will never understand how it's possible in America that Jon Corzine walks free."
I thought that recent college grads were living in their parents' basements. Or were their childhood bedrooms alway in the basement? And what about those here in south Florida - we don't have basements. My college-grad son lives under his old M3, but only when he's not at work. Beats hanging around on street corners, I guess.
+ 1, although the green arrow is not working (quotation).
Yes, but as Governor of New Jersey, can't he "suggest" to one of his state prosecutors to start up an invesigation on Corzine?
Although I do understand that it is dangerous for a politician to go after his predecessor (because the next Governor could go after Christie, this might also explain why Obama has not gone after George Bush), Corzine is SO BAD that this one looks like a slam-dunk...
The problem is he does understand.
The market needs to sell-off for QE3, not to determine the election. They will take this down to 1370 or maybe even 1330 to allow Bernake to act in the second week of September.
1,330 wasnt near low enough a month ago to 'allow Bernank to act' so why would it now give him a clear permission?
And simply with the talk of acting it ran up 90 points. He will deliver a snoozer of a speech tomorrow before a Labor Day weekend. Market will trend down. Global data points will continue to get weaker. Spain is in real trouble. He wants to act to keep liquidity in the system. Market and commodities need to be much lower.

Yep, let's "put" obama into retirerment or at least on the Amos and Andy Road show with Al Sharpton.
Hope reigns eternal. Maybe some new bums will be better than the present or prior bums. When in doubt, kick'em out.
scheissekopf goes partisan?
asswipes!
you are a fool; "anybody" is not necessarily better; if you could think straight, you would not continually be putting up these little "bon mots" for the readership
thus is just poli-disinfo
you would prefer gwBush here too?
prez0 ain't great, but he is not the card-carrying neoCon fuktard who defeated rPaul in the primaries, ya know!
personally i feel badly for an old guy who surrendered his inderpendent thought-capacity to the collective to be "acceptable" wiith the red-necks in the local coffee shop
but not too badly...
can you figure how long ago you died? that would be when ya lost all capacity to be aware of what YOU were actually saying and doing
once you BEcame a parrot; you stopped BEing a man

Pi-Rat just won the Nobel Prize for All-Time Record Cosmic Scale Understatement of the Centuries.
It's a linear progression, slewie. GWB was a horrible president, Obama is $trillions worse, and Rombama will be worse yet (or else Obama II: The Nightmare Gets Darker).
Why is this? It's because the wheels are coming off the Fiat Oligarchy Bus, and whoever ends up on the puppet strings will be forced to take ever more drastic measures to keep the common trash (us) in line. You can count on it.
Why not let them pimp your mom?
Cashin should marry Ryan and move into the abandoned auto plant in Janesville, WI.
College graduates should not have to live out their 20’s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at the fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get on with their life. – Dennis Gartman
The clever quips from the political class (Paul Ryan et cetera) written by a new class of speech writers are fashioned to entrap unsuspecting low-information voters. And America’s two leading political parties are so corrupted, how could anyone believe their sincerity?
The Republicans (and Paul Ryan could be the poster boy) pretend to be small government dragon killers but they are in truth the warmonger dragons. Of the world’s total military spending, the U.S. accounts for 46 percent. And Ryan the Cost Cutter, who allegedly is “for small government,” will threaten the retirees but leave this giant war machine budget untouched because of the U.S./Israel foreign policy compact. This fact alone identifies the Republican Party as no other can.
In the next corner, the Democrat Party is the party for the people: translation - the people who will vote Democrat. The Democrats favor a complete welfare society where wealth produced by anybody can be redistributed to selected groups on a group basis.
And what is the ultimate aim of both parties? It’s the same ultimate compact. Both parties are in the complete employ of the international bankers, neither party willing to cut the burden on the taxpayer if it jeopardizes the oligarchs’ war machine. And their main target for tax billing, of course, is the same target: that middle class guy making $100,000 or more -- the ”rich.”
When is all that stimulus gonna trickle down to me?
Trickle me!
This is probobly the worse nonsense I have read from Zerohedge. Helicopter Ben knows he is going back to Princeton if Romney wins, which is why he will do all within his power to keep the markets goosed.
If Ben had any sense he would want out now, before it gets REAL ugly.
I'm hoping. I'm hoping he wants out; I'm hoping for a change. It's gonna be real bad if no brain puppet doo gets to put in another four years; WITH NOTHING TO LOSE. What is the difference? You really can't figure it out? Okay, here is the difference. 'Romney will have to give you, You, the people, SOMETHING; in order to get his other four. Obama will know he's done and he will cook you to the tune of the corporatists like nothing you can imagine. Dont' be a sap; he';s gotta go.
The Berrnannk is only a figurehead, he takes orders from the board.
Unfortunately the Ryan statement is all but true. We have a whole generation of young adults who just can't move out of their parents home even if they work full time. I think it's one of the most defined symptoms of whats wrong with this country and where we're headed.
It all depends... my son has a crappy minimum wage job but he lives on his own in a crappy rental house with 2 room mates. This serves as MOTIVATION to do better. Interestingly, if he starts to hate his job (which has happened), he does not quit until he has found another.
when your son is 45 years old and still has the same shitty job and the same shitty apartment and the same shitty roomates...ask him about motivation. ryans point (and i am NOT a ryan supporter) is that movement has stopped and there wont be 'better' jobs.
I can't argue with that, but for now he is able-bodied and there is work... IF you are willing to sometimes do the job that nobody else wants. Not blowing sunshine up yer ass, but there is dignity in simply working at whatever job you can get to support yourself without anyone's help. Just learning that lesson alone may give him a leg up on the competition.. the poor little dears still living at home with Mom and Pop.
braz... +100 for your son. more power to him. we just need to do away with the bs entitlements awarded to people based on race or sex or whatever. base reward on perormance. i am not being an ass but working hard usually doesnt give you a leg up....it usually means he will just get saddled with the lazy workers duties. hopefully he can start his own business and make all the profits from his hard work...
i am not being an ass but working hard usually doesnt give you a leg up
That may be... but at least he is learning how to fend for himself. And I suspect that he is aware of the corelation between his income (not mine) and his lifestyle. Amazing how that works to motivate.
I tell him and my daughters to do two simple things:
1. Make yourself indispensible.
2. Always make your boss look good.
But..but, the 1% and families have a 100% chance of living in a McMansion with new cars in the driveway after they have same family pay their way through the most expensive schools where they can room with kids of other families in the same boat, er...luxury yacht.
I have said many times that Repubicans can not win on hate alone. I laff as they continue to shoot themselves in the foot daily since Jan. 20th, 08'.
obama won on 'hate' so why cant the repubs...?
Obama won because he could finish a sentence.
i dont think mccain had a problem with the english language. if you mean bush, obama didnt run against bush. if we as americans are voting for a candidate simply because they can read and write...we are screwed. idiocracy is here....
obama won because he was 'the first black candidate', he promised massive entitlements, promised to build and bailout the unions..public and private, and i think it is the ultimate joke but i think TPTB pushed obama to prove they could elect anyone...even a person that was foreign born and not a citizen of the united states.....kinda a TPTB fuck you!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOdIqKsv624 - Mario Cuomo 1984
Almost 30 some years ago (and the year which references in our mind Orwell) and we fast forward to today - same tapes, pause, rewind, play. Cuomo should have been the nominee - the candidate. But those were back in the days when anyone of Italian heritage - well, out of the question. Ryan was formidable last night: except for the constant catch in his throat - nerves? a cold? hyper nasality, more likely Tourettes - all those clicks and tics - get thee to the mental health provider before we repeal all health care. He gave a pretty speech - but then John McConnell is one of the better speech writers. There were a few "poetic" passages:
"It all started off with stirring speeches, Greek columns, the thrill of something new. Now all that’s left is a presidency adrift, surviving on slogans that already seem tired, grasping at a moment that has already passed, like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind."
Sounds a bit plagiarized - an Oliver Wendell Holmes quote the ship and yesterday's wind but I would have to check. Note the Greek debt tie in - way too deliberate - a stretch. "We believe that in every life there is goodness; for every person, there is hope. Each one of us was made for a reason, bearing the image and likeness of the Lord of Life." Ayn Rand would not approve of her disciple. But alas, both were a little too contorted, too complex to see - they should have dusted off the mothballed Peggie Noonan "the shining city on the hill" - now that is a simple memorable line. The real problem was as we would say in the old audit world - substance vs form - all form no substance. Or as a Jewish garment salesman I once knew would say " where's the goods, show me the goods."
No chance. They want Obama back in. If anything happens before the election it's to make Kenyan born Obama man look good. There is no other possibility. Guaranteed. The election is a slam dunk. Romney has no chance no matter what he does. He's there strictly for theatre and this is a two person comedy.
Agreed. Not that there is that much difference between the candidates now that the honorable Dr. Paul has exited, but it's the status quo, and they always want the status quo.
Plus, just read the headlines on Yahoo and Google, the propamedia is in full get him re-elected mode. You would think we are coming off the best 4 years in the nations history.
Politics does make for strange bedfellows - Mitt the Mormon, flanked by two Catholics, the Lean Mean Austerity P90X Ryan Machine and the bloviating gas bag Christie.
In that certain part of America, where the coded "take back the country" speaks to the racist red south as well as the old New England WASP establishment in volumes. Let's remember child labor in the old north east and immigrant garment workers toiling in harsh factory conditions (typically a 7 yr indentured agreement) - sewing farm clothes for the slaves - who were too valuable to bringing in the crop to sew their own.
This long history together in the literal as well as the metaphorical. The mentality of privilege, status, rank - all granted and given by God, even if the God of the north slightly differed from that of the south. Exploitation and victimization, usage and usury, capitalization to its pinnacle the commoditization of human beings – the machine.
So this unholy alliance of big establishment with the deep red racist south, a natural.
Maybe it is the logical extrapolation of the American dream, "go west young man" the pioneer rugged individual conquers all - quite fitting here comes the American prophet via a Mormon.
Didn't Boehner stated it in simple terms, just a little short of the implied "throw the lazy black bum out."
But Obama knew what he was in for - always a placeholder - he wanted his place in history - so he got the keys to the castle when there were no gold bars left.
"Blame the black man in the hoodie" history has such high costs.
A night of reaching back to that false sense of white supremacy - shameful in its predictability.
I didn't notice until now that Obama was black... all this time I just thought he was just your basic, run-of-the-mill corrupt Chicago political thug who couldn't run a lemonade stand. Thanks for clearing that up.
Being a "basic, run-of-the-mill corrupt Chicago political thug who couldn't run a lemonade stand" has no boundaries when it comes to race, creed, nationality, gender, etc. Very equal opportunity here in Chicago,
HAhyperion
funny how your entire comment is anti republican but you dont mention the actual pres candidate except to call him a mormon. mittens isnt a wasp or a southerner. if we had rohmney and mccain running against each other, would you defend the morman the same as the black candidate...?
Didn't Boehner stated it in simple terms, just a little short of the implied "throw the lazy mormon bum out."
the liberals are going to screwed for a campaign slogan once obama is out of office as the race card has been all they have played since this started.....
Really... This is the sort of Political Commentary that gets published on ZH?
Reality check: Paul Ryan is PROJECTING. He's one of the sychophantic creeps doing the policy authoring/water carrying for the 1/10th of 1% who run the cabal. Shit, I can remember when the U.S. at least paid lip service to a Utilitarian Philosophy and, prescribed to Rule of Law - not just proscribing it to other states. Paul Ryan is an advocate of "economic insecurity" - it keeps labor prices down and, voter attention spans short, focused and the voters submissive.
Ryan is a creep. Mitten's is on the margains of the population of the MEga-Wealthy who Really Rule.
1. "They" could care less which one gets into office, they own them both.
2. Ryan should have voted the way he spoke last night. He also should have had his budget committee pass a budget.
3. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Ya'll are scaring me.

WFT? Gartman is scary. I always thought that no one could be wrong all the time but then I listened to Gartman and I changed my mind.
“. . .we shall urge the greatest of caution upon everyone, everywhere regarding gold. It is not just over-extended to the upside; it is hyper-extended. It is not just overbought; it is hyper-overbought. We cannot strongly enough urge everyone to avoid buying gold here and we shall go so far as to suggest that those who are long begin the process of quietly heading for the exits and to reduce their positions to the most minimal ‘insurance’ positions possible. Everyone should have perhaps 5% of their liquid assets in gold, but at this point anything beyond that level is excessive.”
–Dennis Gartman, September 29 2010
If the largest HFT firm is staunchly Dem., it doesn't matter what "wall street" thinks...
"The principle, on which the war was waged by the North, was that men may rightfully be compelled to submit to, and support, a government that they do not want; and that resistance, on their part, makes them traitors and criminals."
Lysander Spooner

They should crash the markets. That would give the Obama administration impetus to mass-arrest the bankers for fraud and become the hero, thereby crushing Romney.
Wouldn't the stronger voice be to leave the box for President empty and vote anyone BUT a dem or rep?
You are all either retards or disingenuous double-agents (like Michael) because you all miss the salient point.
Who do you want in office when it all falls apart in the next four years, and martial law is declared (for whatever reason)? Do you want a slimy, sleazy, Marxist who hates this country and all that it ever stood for or do you want somebody who at least leans the way we used to be, (even if he is bought and paid for)?
Obummer is capable of abject horrors, if he gains total power. He could kill millions of Americans and not blink an eye. That is not the case with Romney.
It is your choice, your family. If you want guaranteed Gotterdamerung for Americans, then Obummer is your guy.
(And since we seem to have our fair share of anarchists on this site that very well may be the case).
"Will it, and by implication, its Fed muppets, do all in their powers to do just that: crash stocks and kill Obama's reelection chances?"
If they want BB fired then yes, but I think they'll juice the markets for BO.
