Well one comment: when the final bubble does pop (and here we make the wild assumption that no intelligent extraterrestrial life will be found to bail out the central banks in time), at least everyone will be locked and loaded.

wow, the price has really shot up....
Given the capabilities of government today, gun ownership to protect oneself from government is ridiculous. It's a proverbial water pistol vs something outrageous. Billionaire Americans are wedded to the system, and will not leave it, and unlike the Founding Fathers, this is not a foreign government that would be resisted, as alleged here. What's being discussed is an outright impossibility. We voted government......our government into office and it will be our government that we vote out of office when real change is desired.
Maybe we should all buy IED's -they've been incredibly effective in Iraq - don't kill a lot -but maim 10 times as many for life -without massive air cover - or blowing the shit out of whole neigborhoods = the gov forces are not nearly as effective. Citizens militias will adapt to the times - the gov may need large amounts of foreign mercenaries -or very highly paid Blackwater types

There are two primary reasons why there is an increase in sales of firearms.
The first reason, there have been recent events of groups of people killed with a firearm such as the Aurora Colorado episode.
As a result there were widespread campaigns and urgings by the “gun grabbers” for much stricter gun laws - from columnists to talk show hosts to major media. The emphasis was placed on the claim that too many guns in society means innocent people are being killed. As a result, a sizable percentage of the public realized that restrictions on guns would be a restriction on their freedom and their self defense against criminals.
The second reason is that never before has the government begun arming its civilian employees by well into the tens of thousands from the forest service to EPA to Labor Department to health officials to Federal Reserve employees... In addition to this incredible armed advance, the Federal government has worked more closely than ever with state police and local police forces to give them much more fire power and technology to deal allegedly with criminals but, also, with surveillance of private citizens.
In addition to this, the military has begun greater and greater involvement in domestic areas to the extent that they are having air and ground exercises in urban areas and SWAT teams are being trained to deal with potential civilian uprisings.
In short, and for this reason, citizens are arming themselves, not for deer hunting or target practice, but to defend themselves from the government.
Paranoia is number 1 - Power in their cowardly hands number 2 - Stupidity and Ignorance number 3 - and the list goes on...................
That's why we have a second amendment. Our forefathers knew freedom had to be defended against...wait for it...the Governmint.

Competed at Camp Perry and Camp Pendleton in 1970-71 smallbore and high power. After 40 years I'm starting to get "good".
Finally, start doing research on the things that trigger "SAR's" in this country. Buying a few weapons is nothing - wait until a cash transaction of $500 causes a SAR. We're almost there.

Guns are really, really, really really cheap. Reality is that an old 45 cal pistol is around $250.00 and older shotguns are even cheaper, and normal people don't actually wear out a firearm. Weapons in the Middle East are still being recycled from 75 years ago and function flawlessly when in capable hands. Fighting ones own government with lethal force is ridiculous. Leaving the country altogether is far more reasonable, and then you deal with yet another system you learn to despise. I understand Hungary is looking for a few good men these days, maybe Panama? Americans have a good deal and need to control spending. Hardly a place to run away from. First fix yourself, and then attempt to develop change elsewhere.

Very good point, Instead of having 6 rifles, sell one and buy a plate carrier and ceramic plates + soft armor, medical supplies, and basic medical training (combat casualty care and/or other field first aid including CPR). Body armor for the significant other, and children should also be in order if you have those. In a real urban or any kind of chaotic gunfight it can be hard to initially determine where you are taking fire from. Also study us army battle drills of "react to ambush", near and far, and "break contact".
Remember, God forbid you, or any of us end up in a future gunfight, the best battlefield medicine is fire superiority.

An interesting facet of the NYPD shooting civilians is: The city requires a 12 pound trigger pull on all hand guns for all rounds. If your automatic is less than that, it has to be modified by the NYPD to guarantee 12 pound trigger pull. Seems that several accidents occured while re-holstering their weapon and to prevent or reduce that, they made the guns much less accurate.

The best pistol money can buy is the glock. Gaston glock was a genius and it shows in the finished products. However there is something about the S and W .357 revolver that you just can't explain. They make fantastic revolvers. It is built rock solid and you know it WILL NOT let you down when you need it.
Side note that most people don't know is the S and W revolvers have a less than lethal setting on them. You smash somebody in the head with it and it's like hitting them with brass knuckles on steroids. So they won't die on you...well maybe sometimes they won't.
Many make this mistake about Glock. Fine gun maker? Hell yes. "The best pistol money can buy?" That's sheer hyperbole.
