Follow New Hampshire GOP Primary Results Live

Tyler Durden's picture

In under one hour, the New Hampshire GOP Primary polls close. The New Hampshire primary is the second contest in the state-by-state battle for the Republican presidential nomination to face Democratic President Barack Obama on Nov. 6. Romney narrowly won the first contest, the Iowa caucuses, on Jan. 3. According to Reuters, and pretty much all of the mainstream media, Mitt Romney is in charge, and Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman appeared to be in a battle for second place in New Hampshire, the small New England state known for its independent streak and outsized role in presidential campaigns. As for Mitt, "A multimillionaire who says his experience as head of private-equity firm Bain Capital would help him spur America's economy as president, Romney might face a bigger challenge in the next primary in South Carolina on Jan. 21, where the economy is weaker and conservatives make up a larger slice of the electorate." Because apparently people in New Hampshire are big fans of 25% IRRs predicated by 5x Debt/EBITDA LBOs. Or something. Follow the primary via the CNN live webcast below, through the WSJ live blog, or via Politico. Fox News is tracking New Hampshire exit polls here. Finally, the live tally of final results can be tracked using the interactive Google map below.

Ron Paul is the only canidadte remaining that hasn't experienced a sudden surge in straw polling, instead he has built support little by little but never loses his momentum. Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Perry and Gingrich all had a sudden 'bump' in polling only to have support fall of a cliff shortly after. If he can finish a solid second tonight he sets himself up for a showdown for the win in SC against Romney.

In short, Ron Paul's true campaign hasn't even started yet. After the next few primaries it is going to come down to only 3 candidates. It is hard to believe after 30+ years in politics Ron Paul's voice is finally getting heard. The controlled media has a hard fight ahead to stop the message of liberty, peace and prosperity that have once again become popular in America thanks to Dr. Paul.

Exit polls. Of course the exit polls were wrong in 2004 when I campaigned and voted for John "Anyone but Bush" Kerry. I was at the Sheraton in Pittsburgh with the whole Kerry crowd. We were winning until we weren't. Lots of crestfallen faces.

I went to the bathroom and muttered the word, "revolution" several times as I stood in line for the urinal but I just got silence and possibly one look of contempt.

In 2007 I finally found the R3VOLUTION.

Sorry folks but Santorum did not campaign in Iowa and Huntsman did not campaign in NH.

Yet those bozos get 20+% of the vote.  Nobody believes it.

The fix is in and Game theory will be used to take out Ron Paul.

I used to be a republican.

The party is a disgrace.

How bad?  Karl Rove is voting for Obama under this scheme.

The best they can muster is Romney?  The guy is from central casting.

Might as well cast; 'and E.G. Marshall as the the President.'

We live in an age where they can track trillions in credit card payments in real time, but can't transparently maintain custody and count a few thousand votes?

The more Ron Paul gets robbed by the MSM and the Machine the more likely bigger problems will prevail.

After another 4 years of Obama, what will this "country" look like?  I shudder to guess.

PS None of the other republican candidates have any charisma to beat the Hollywood machine.

The technology exists, but it would require legislation to set something like that up.  Look at how well Congress works as it is--why would they ever want to change how national elections work?

It might even take a Constitutional amendment to repair the election process.  So instead we get a corrupt system.

CNN is being disingenuous again...those are estimated projections only.

Delegates for Iowa and New Hampshire will not be awarded until March. The Delegate stuff is very complex, and the rules have changed since 2008. This favors Ron Paul...he expects to get MORE delegates from Iowa than anyone else. This is the ground game edge he has over even Romney.

Just an opinion, if the economy merely stays the same and/or any "issue" can be blamed on the EU, none of the GOP candidates will beat Obama. None.

As an aside one is very amused at the fact that the MSM has no clue what to do with Ron Paul. His lack of hypocrisy and his consistent message, of course, makes him all to confusing for those journalists who lick corporate and political ass for a living.

How does Ron Paul feel about usury? Does he support compound interest? Should "we the people" coin our own money debt and interest free?

It was "The Miracle of Compound Interest" that made this country great. It provided for the welfare of workers who saved a small portion of their wages for a rainy day. It provided endowments for widows and orphans. The savings provided capital for businesses which looked to expand.

"The Miracle of Compound Interest" was destroyed by the Fed's inflation which makes real interest rates too low or even negative. There is no real return on savings any more. That's why America is dying.

That's just part of it. Any fiat currency backed by legal tender laws will eventually kill an economy regardless of who issues that currency. The permission to print is given by government and benefits government and so government inevitably abuses that privilege.

I'm in favor of sound money. And interest. Without interest individuals do not have an incentive to make their saving available to entrepreneurs for capital investment. Without capital investment there is no production. If there is no production millions starve and go naked.

Sovereign nations do not need entities like the Federal Reserve, that are neither Federal nor with reserves, to take control of the issuance of their currency and lend it back to the taxpayers at fractional multiples and at interest, to have an effective monetary policy.

My comment was just trying to short-circuit any potential fractal logic that could lead to endorsing a contradiction of the above advocation.

Huntsman, who is currently at about 17%, takes many more votes from RP than from Romney. It is interesting that if even 12% of that 17% went for RP that this would be a much, much closer primary.

I agree, Ron is almost like a blocking fullback for Romney right now and RP has the organization and the money to go all the way to the convention winning 25% of every single primary in the country.  Between him and Romney, that is most of the oxygen in the rooom for everyone else.

Hunstman is a Globalist doppleganger for Obama.  The real battle and challenge of momentum for Ron Paul now is SC and Florida.

If he can break through here he will have upgraded from a speech at the convention or influence at a remotely possible brokered convention to a place on the ticket and all the important leverage that goes with that.

Here's hoping the momentum takes him beyond even a VP ticket position...Go RP!

Tue, 01/10/2012 - 21:26 | 2052608 Dooud

Will RP take the VP slot on a Romney ticket?    RP is going to be running interference as a firewall against all the others and I see Romney winning a plurality in every primary state and RP running second.   RP is going to split the vote among all the others until he gets out, and RP will not get out.   So I think the eventually Romney and RP will have a majority of primary votes, regardless of who emerges.   If the Convention platform adopts most of RP's planks, can everyone live with a Romney/Paul Ticket?

I could live with it if I thought it would give RP a pulpit to speak from.  But I'm afraid that with RP as VP we'd go back to the days of the VP being a 5th wheel.  The media would insist.

Schedule of Primaries and Caucuses...

http://www.2012presidentialelectionnews.com/2012-republican-primary-sche...

NH is an open primary. So is SC.  Gives Paul a shot to do well.

Will make a huge difference come FL, where only Registered Repubs will vote. No Independents.

You should expect RP to have a difficult time.  A 2nd place showing there, regardless of % would be a big victory.

Research which primaries and caucuses are open or closed, and that will dictate how effective the machine will be at minimizing the damage Paul is able to do.

He will have the cash and the organization to go deep into this circus. Once Huntsman concedes, RP picks up a large majority of his support.

It'll become much about how many delegates RP can acquire heading into convention.

I agree, that is how RP is using his money also (concentrating on the open primary and caucus states).  But I also think as RP continues to do well he can continue to pull second/third everywhere as long as we have these large fields.   Really Romney and RP are helping each other in many ways right now.

Romney looks good in a sweater and can speak a complete coherent sentance without studdering even if the content is dull and predictable sloganeering. Those are the 2 best assest he has going for him and it's carried him all the way to New Hamshire. He's probably gone as far as his grecian formula hair product can take him. Few people can get excited about a billionaire Morman in the White House who would be a nice counterpart to what Obama was. He's not going to last. He'll get beat.

The issue is that with a fractured field and with Ron Paul still in the race, Romney can continue to win every primary with only a plurality. This will dry up funds for everyone else, unless all of the nonRomney and nonRon Paul votes can consolidate into he clear "conservative" choice. Hence the "firewall" argument for SC. If Romney wins there, only he and Paul will likely have enough money and funds to compete for Super Tuesday.
This is what I am hoping for, the idiot morons junking me here don't realize that when he race gets down to just Mitt and Ron, RP will have his best chance. If you want RP to have the best chance to be on the Republican ticket, you should desire this scenario also.

Dana Bash interviewed Ron tonight. It's amazing that they still have this reporter (sic) who admitted that she is "worried" about Paul's success covering him.

Jesse Benton smacked her down and he and Ron ended an interview with her on CNN just days ago. Tonight Bash asked Ron if he would run third party and Ron said "that's the 138th time you've asked that question and the answer is the same." He's a contender and he's in it to win it.

At the end of the interview Jesse Benton waved and said "Bye, Dana" as he and Ron walked away. Interesting interplay.

Ron Paul is no wimp.  In fact, I'd say he's fearless....which is a term I reserve for very few individuals.  Paul's video clips from the late 1980s (from his LP run) are fantastic examples of Paul's mettle.

Come summer, party rules allow any Republican voter in Florida to challenge the state's winner-take-all scheme at the Tampa convention, potentially complicating and confusing the nomination itself.

"Let's suppose that a person supporting say Ron Paul ... says, 'Look, my candidate was entitled to 10 percent of the 50 delegates. We're entitled to five delegates. And I'm going to file a challenge asserting that we get our five delegates.' I think that's a very plausible scenario," says John Ryder, an RNC member from Tennessee who was on the committee that wrote the latest rules.

Huntsman will be gone after SC. Bushees will not support Perry cause he's done. The Newt will be an also ran in FL.

One of, if not the only, time I have watched an entire speech by a politican.  Not to mention that I felt no desire, none whatsoever, to put a foot, fist, shoe, coffee mug, etc... through the tv.

I don't agree with 100% of what he proposes.  His voice tonality does sound a bit whiny at times.  But he's honest and forthright.  As a lifelong member of the libertarian wing of the republican party I can vote for him without feeling afterward like I've just had unprotected anal sex with 30 2-dollar Hunt's Point hookers.  Which by the way is the way most politics and by definition politicans make me feel.  Unfortunately, I feel that his message is about 20 years too late.  His focus on freedom and liberty resonate with me in a way that possibly only Goldwater's, "Conscience of a Conservative" has.  I believe that the Rubicon has already been crossed.

I've also thought that "it's too late." But Ron says that we can get things moving again in a year or so if we do the liquidating and restructuring necessary. That seems very optimistic to me but Ron is a hard numbers kind of guy and as you say he is trustworthy. If America plays its cards right we might get through this OK.

What does Mitt Romney got that Ron Paul doesn't?

A: Bloodline and lineage. Also the massive funds needed for campaign.

RP doesnt have this!:

Parley Pratt practiced plural marriage and had twelve wives. One of Pratt's great-great-grandsons is Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor and candidate for the 2008 and 2012 Republican presidential nominations.[28] One of his great-great-great-grandsons is Jon Huntsman, former Utah governor and Ambassador to China, and a candidate for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination

Pratt then returned to Fayette, New York in October 1830, where he met Joseph Smith and was asked to join a missionary group assigned to preach to the Native American (Lamanite) tribes on the Missouri frontier

Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith, Jr. (December 23, 1805 – June 27, 1844) was an American religious leader and the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, which gave rise to Mormon theology. Smith is regarded by his followers as a prophet.
