As the Village Voice reports, the NY Board of Health just passed Bloomberg's soda ban proposal banning sugary drinks in more than 16-ounce cups. Of course, none of this should come as a surprise as repression swings from financial to social - what next? No more 8-year-old chimney-sweeps? No more untested drugs on the market? Free-speech suppression on YouTube? As WSJ notes: During the first three months after the ban takes effect, the city will inspect and inform sellers when they are not in compliance with the law. The city will allow a three-month grace period before it begins issuing notice of violations that are subject to fines. Will there be soda hoarding? 'I Drink 17-ounces-at-a-time' T-Shirts?

Here's the story: Guliani was term limited as mayor and the Republicans wanted to get someone to replace him. Bloomberg was chosen because he could finance his own campaign and kick in some money for other Republicans. The only problem was that Bloomberg had always been a registered Democrat up to that point. So they got him to switch parties just in time for the Republican primary.
They could have chosen Herman Badillo, a former liberal Democrat who later became wise, and Chancellor of the City University system who turned that place around from being a joke. But the Republican bosses fell in love with Bloomberg's money and Badillo was thrown under the bus.
That's why the Republican party in New York deserves every beating it's going to get.

Something I learned a few years back--in NYS, you cannot "unregister" your political affiliation. You can only choose a different one.
So unfortunately, because I refuse to do the absurd state-sponsored paperwork to register as an "independent," I will likely DIE as a "registered Democrat." In NYS, anyway. If I move, and decide to play ball with these assholes again, I could register as a Republican, and then I'd be BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!
It would certainly have nothing to do with my beliefs, though. It's a bit like the Mormon practice of converting the dead. Anyone can write their own version of history.

May I suggest that the statists at some point will enact euthanasia for all those folks with IQ's less then 100. The only exception (of course) would be state, local, and federal employees. If we didn't allow for the exception, then there would be no one to run the government. On second thought, I would like to start with local, state, and federal employees ....and then re-evaluate after the purge.
