"We can not and will not sustain deficits like these without end. Contrary to the prevailing wisdom in Washington these past few years, we can not simply spend as we please and defer the consequences to the next budget, the next administration or the next generation. We are paying the price for these deficits right now. In 2008 alone we paid $250 billion in interest on our debt, that is more than three times what we spent on education that year, more than seven times what we spent on VA healthcare. So if we confront this crisis without also confronting the deficits that helped cause it, we risk sinking into another crisis down the road as our interest payments rise, our obligations come due, confidence in our economy erodes and our children and grandchildren are unable to pursue their dreams because they are saddled with our debts. That's why today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy - it will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we have long neglected but i refuse to leave our children with a debt they can not repay. And that means taking responsibility right now in this administration, for getting our spending under control."

Just look at those two examples - they took away our regular lightbulbs which worked fine for decades and gave us lightbulbs that contain... mercury. Then they took away our healthcare which wasn't the greatest, but gave us... Obamacare. Good God, where are the people who used to believe government was about as little interference as possible? Other than military, contracts, maybe some roads and bridges, the government does not need to be in all this other stuff.
The bottom line here is that the government has gotten into SO much of our lives that people are horrified when you start pointing it out to them and react with fury if you suggest getting rid of all this government intervention.
There is no better example of the disaster that government creates when it gets into things than to just look at the last oh, thousand or so articles here on Zerohedge.

It is curious that the deficit began to soar when the FY 2008 budget, the first passed by the Nancy and Harry show, took effect. Bush and the Republicans appear to have actually had the deficit declining, but Bush was so damaged politically that he couldn't resist the spending even if he wanted to. Somehow I don't think he really cared about the spending levels. His idea of compassion apparently only applied to the kleptocrats.

PersonallyI think it comes down to philosophical views on the very building blocks of economic theory: human behavior. His philosophy does not work in the frameworkof historical American values. He has had four years to turn things around and for people like me, things have only gotten worse. What many liberals forget is that the core of the US value system goes back to rugged individualism and self sufficiency. As long as that remains at the core of our system the liberal socialist model will fail. If the socaialists ever prevail, then America, as I have known it, will forever cease to exist.

I realize that could be normal in a state that has a major military college, but I have lived here all my life and have never witnessed this type of supply movement.
