Infographic On The Greatest Gun Salesman In America: President Obama

Tyler Durden's picture

American firearm sales and concealed handgun permit applications are at all-time highs since the 2008 election of President Barack Obama. President Obama's perceived hostility towards gun owners has been one of the key factors behind the multi-year financial boom the firearms industry continues to enjoy. In fact, the National Rifle Association (NRA) is actively preparing to work to defeat President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, according to Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the NRA, who recently said the following at the 2012 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C.:

"Lip service to gun owners is just part of a massive Obama conspiracy to deceive voters and hide his true intentions to destroy the Second Amendment during his second term. We see the president's strategy crystal clear: Get re-elected and, with no more elections to worry about, get busy dismantling and destroying our firearms' freedom, erase the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights and excise it from the U.S. Constitution...When the sun goes down on election day Barack Obama will have America’s gun owners to thank for his defeat.” -

Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the NRA, February 10th, 2012

Ironically, the perceived hostility towards gun owners by President Obama has actually helped the firearms industry tremendously. Since the 2008 election, more Americans than ever before are purchasing firearms & ammunition. This has meant massive increases in sales by firearm & ammunition makers, billions more in federal and state tax collections related to guns & ammo, increased membership in the NRA, and hundreds of thousands of new Americans carrying concealed handguns.  Therefore, should the firearms industry support President Obama for a second term or not?

As for why this may be the case, perhaps it has something to do with the death of the legal system under the current president, very much like Greece, and Robogate killed contract law.

Are ever more Americans simply preparing to take "the law" into their own hands?

I liked Kustler's stuff, and especially The Geography of Nowhere, because it helps explain how we got here.

If you have not read They Thought They Were Free or 1984, then I would put them both at the top of your list, all things considered.

Favorite book of all time is Creature From Jekyll Island (accidentially read it 4 years ago, thinking it was "understanding the USA economy for dummies" - serendipity, I suppose, as it was the start of my awakening) - Anyways, second favorite is Crossing the Rubicon. That shit will blow your mind, even though you are already one of the awake - I say start on it tonight!

I read None Dare Call it Conspiracy a while back. I found myself flipping to the copyright page because I couldn't believe it was 40 years old. So relevant even today. It could've been written yesterday -- just swap Nixon out with Bush/Obama and Communism with Islam. Same shit, different piles.

the increase in gun sales is likely not based on the average person believing obama is going to weaken the 2nd amendment... its much more likely the bulk of sales are coming from citizens who are waking up and see the impending societal/financial collapse coming soon.................

kito,

its much more likely the bulk of sales are coming from citizens who are waking up and see the impending societal/financial collapse coming soon.................

That goes against the SHEEPLE theory would it not?.

It's more a combo of people knowing what's coming, they have been to this dance with the Clittons Admin, in '94,EIGHT long years of a sorry SOB.( He sold more weapons IMHO, than Obambaba has.)

Kissing the ass of every anti gun group on the planet.

Obama is also, he has been schooled on it by the Clitton regime folks to NOT talk about it,( in secret he has met many times with the Brady Bunch promising he has a plan, and we know his plan) because riled up weapons owners vote PRO gun, if it was Chavez,or Castro running, and they were Pro 2nd  they would get the Gun owner vote.

There are three VERY strong Voting blocs in this country, the Boomers being the third.

If this admin was smart, if re-elected God forbid, leaving this issue alone would be a very wise decision. It ranks right up there with Abortion.

This is not England, nor Austrailia.

Which is kind of the same thing....Fast & Furious was designed soley to be able to claim that it was too easy to buy a gun in this country and "reasonable" controls would be needed to ensure the guns didn't end up in Mexico

Um...that's not a common 'American' round. 7.62x51 is more common(.308) or go to 5.56x45(.223 equiv)... ;)

While I agree 100% with your premise, the 7.62x54 is DIRT cheap, and the Mosins are pretty accurate(esp for their age,and have ballistics similar to an '06), and you can buy 10,000 rounds for the cost of 1000 7.62x51's.

5.56 is a tad light in the arse, and range limited.........................but very useful.

( and GOOD ammo is still very reasonable.by the case).

Yeppers. Had one, sadly, I suck at boating like most here. :) I was just pointing out that it wasn't a typical American round. I picked the .39 and .54 out BECAUSE they were dirt cheap(guns too), now 5.56 is at the same price point because it's now made overseas as well but I still prefer the 7.62 54 and 39. If the platforms were better(and they can be) then the rounds are superior to 5.56 but in a stock AR platform the 5.56 is more accurate at ranges over 300m in typical use. A .54 in new clothing and with good optics can best the 5.56 and has much more stopping power. At 100yds the .39 is going through cinder blocks while the 5.56 is a hit but may still miss. I'm led to believe the 5.56 relies on tumbling on impact to effect damage whereas the HP .39 and .54 transfer more energy purely on round weight. Based on wood, brick, and metal shots from 100-300yds, the .39 and .54 are much more devastating. I would own a 5.56 in bolt action(wink) if I was to go longer and lighter. A .308 or .338 Lapua if utmost long range damage was desirable. Ok, time to go patch the boat AGAIN...

the perceived hostility towards gun owners by President Obama

you can stop reading right there.  It encapsulates all that is wrong with America and American Politics.

The new game in town: take a right leaning centrist corporatist President and label him a socialist or even communist.  Then assign all sorts of stupidity to his name, and then fight against that stupidity.  this allows him to forward your agenda all the while you howl in supposed protest.

Just like the banks.  They howl about how anti-banking and anti-business he is, while he shovels more and more money and power to them every day, and cuts them sweetheart deals absolving them of all their past misdeeds.

Just like the rich, who howl about his socialist tendencies, all the while he extended Bush II's tax cuts, and hasn't done a damn thing to inconvenience the rich.

Just like Big Pharma, who howled about ObamaCare all the while they got the major boom of having citizens forced in an unconstitutional way to buy their product.

what the hell has Obama done that is anti-2nd amendment?  is it even on his radar?  hell no.  but it sure is nice to get up there and pontificate as though he is.

I grow more and more despondent by Americans every day.

man... that "report" is WAY under the radar. so far under the radar to not be believable.  but let's say it happened... so what?

Obama hasn't done 1/1000th of the stuff that he talks about ON the radar, but now we think he is going to magically get his under the radar non-talked-about stuff done?

Fox news went full retard with that story.  Obama talks.  that's it.  That's all he's ever done.  He spews talk and lies to the Left, while he Does things for Big Corp.  this includes Big Ammo and Big Guns, because they're part of the Military Industrial Complex, that he supports.

Fuck, if I had a penny for every time he TOLD me something and then didn't do it I could bail out the US, Japan, and the Eurozone all by myself.  and still have lots left over for hookers and booze.

I'll worry about his gun control policies right after he does other stuff he talked about, like punishing Banking FatCats, closing Guantanamo, getting out of Afghanistan, Bringing a Public Option to health care, raising taxes on the top 0.1%, working on a solution to American Jobs or our mortgage mess, and so on.

of course I do.  that's why I commented on it.

it's my whole point.  There is little to no hostility towards gun owners from B.O... and yet they "perceive" there to be hostility, and give big soliloquys about it.

just like Big Banks, Big Biz, Big Military, Big Med, Big Pharm all "perceive" hostility from B.O.

Kabuki theater.

as for whether or not gun sales are increasing because of B.O.  I have no idea.  hard to tell causal vs coincidental.

Let's be honest, we NRA members have never forgotten how Clinton attacked gun owenership by going after individual gun dealers, shows etc..  Nor have we forgotten the Randy Weaver massacre.  That's the period when I really increased my gun collection and stocked up on enough reloading supplies for all my calibers.  I renamed a room in my house the "Chuck Shumer memorial arsenal".  So, I was already well prepared when Obama came along.  Clinton learned in 1994 the political dangers of taking on the NRA and the dems have never forgotten-though their longterm agenga, like Lenin's, (disarm the populace) has never changed.

So much for the Crime Waves.

The only places you will find the rates of shootings up, is where only the criminals have them(guns).( D.C. NYC, and Chi Town), have always been super dangerous, with murders galore.( Civilians not allowed to own weapons).

Check this out,

The Freedom Group is now the most powerful force in the U.S. commercial gun industry today. They have quickly and quietly acquired notable gun brands such as Bushmaster, DPMS, and Remington Arms. Yet, nobody has ever heard of it.

Even within gun groups, the question is being asked:

What is the Freedom Group?

A quick search of news on the Freedom Group reveals that what little has been written about them has only been written in recent weeks. A Wikipedia article lists the following companies as being owned by Freedom Group: Remington Arms, Bushmaster Firearms International, DPMS Panther Arms, Marlin, H & R Firearms, NEF, Dakota Arms, LC Smith, Parker, Advanced Armament Corporation, Barnes Bullets, EOTAC, INTC.

Due to the current political climate, as well as the fast and quiet nature of the Freedom Group acquiring so many large firearms companies, speculation has easily gravitated toward worst-case scenarios.

Rumors drifting along the Internet suggest the Freedom Group is being used in a government plot to disarm the American people. Other rumors suggest the Freedom Group is one of George Soros’s many front companies, and that he is seeking to corner the gun market for his owns ends.

I found this last month when I was looking up who owned Spyglass Entertainment

It's my understanding that both Remington Arms and Bushmaster are owned by Steve Feinberg through Cerberus Capital Management. he also owns DynCorp International.

from Cerberus capital management page on Wikipedia.

Firearms — Acquired Bushmaster Firearms, Inc., from Windham, Maine native Dick Dyke for an undisclosed sum in April 2006, and purchased Remington Arms in April 2007. Under Cerberus direction, Bushmaster Firearms acquired Cobb Manufacturing, a well-respected manufacturer of large-caliber tactical rifles in August 2007. Cerberus also acquired DPMS Panther Arms December 14, 2007.[29][30] Remington Arms acquired Marlin Firearms in January 2008.[31][32] In October 2009, Remington Military products acquired silencer manufacturer Advanced Armament Corporation.[33] These companies were combined into the Freedom Group.

Here we go again.

We are sufficiently armed and trained.

We continue to break the rust off every so often while clinging to our guns and bibles.

Just recently there was two mass classes with about 100+ learning to use, carry a gun with a license in our state. And that does not include the dozens who take such classes each week.

There are some combat courses available as well where you get to do some fun things like blasting a teddy bear through a car windshield.

Or actually have a chance to blast the engine block through and through with some of the Magnum Slugs made for the purpose.

But you gentlemen are mistaken if you think that hoarding ammo and weapons will save you, or that it's even a particularly productive thing to do.  Beyond a certain point it's quite pathetic, and it betrays the fact that you know that you really don't have much power at all.

Also, you will never hear me praise the affirmative action nonentity that is Obama.  But next to the motley crue of imbeciles and snakes that make up the current crop of Republican candidates, he seems almost benign.  Which is why he might get reelected despite our country going down the crapper.

OK, Dolph, I'll bite. So I'm "mistaken if [I] think hoarding guns & ammo will save me, 'cuz it's 'pathetic', etc etc."

Just 2 quick questions. 1) We'll leave Hitler out of this for the sake of brevity. Why did Mugabe disarm the good people of Zimbabwe right before he turned the army loose on his political opposition? If guns/ammo are of no real use, why'd he even bother? 2) in re "you [gun nuts] have no Power at all". Strong words. And you know this....how?

You'll never hear me argue aginst your right to post your drivel here, Dolph. But beyond a certain point, it's quite pathetic. But Obama's the one who wakes up and asks himself, "How can I most fuck up the country today?" Unless you can point us to something he's done that's A) good for the country and B) good for the taxpayers. Hint: "can't fuck up the country while on vacation/playing golf" doesn't count.

The overlying long term agenda is for the 2nd amendment rights of American citizens to be abolished, be it under Obama or his successor(s). Here's how it will go down: Some mentally disturbed right-wing, terrorist, Ron Paul loving, gold standard embracing, homophobic, racist, fuck-job (pushed into service by the FBI) will take his Black rifle out and massacre thirty or so innocent civilians out on a missions trip to feed the mortgage victims and, POOF!, no more gun rights, by decree of President Whoever the Shit. The Majority (unemployed underwater basket weavers, entitlement junkies, and government employees) will most happily participate in purging America of those evil fucking guns and the Redneck sons o bitchez that want to own them. Clinton paved the road for this with the assault weapons ban.............there was 100% compliance within the industry, the NRA, and the majority of gun owners. Voting against Obama in order to save your Constitutional rights is a futile fucking joke. Our rights do not come from the Government, and until enough people understand this in their hearts and minds there is absolutely no hope for the continued freedom of mankind.

Something tells me the Obaminator will have bigger fish to fry than going after gun owners in the event that he wins re election.  In the meantime, I'd like to see demographic breakdowns accompany the fanciful charts.  In my little corner of the swamp, the rich folks have been stockpiling guns and ammo for a while now in anticipation of being robbed by the unwashed masses of filthy mortals, never once realizing with all of their immense intellect and power that they are already being robbed blind by others: from the banker who has bent their favorite son over the barrel to the point that mom and dad have to step in to pay student loans, to the help, the cleaning crew who know where all the bling resides, the carpenter who does crap work for a small fortune, the mechanic who does the same, etc.

It's quite a visual actually... mansions bristling with armor, and barely a soul who could actually wield a weapon in the event that the ghetto did actually empty out and come after their treasure.  Not to worry... aint gonna happen.  Everyone needs their boogy man though.

Astute points.  Also, it's more likely that a child might hurt or kill himself, herself, or others with a firearm instead of the firearm being used against putative invader(s).  While I agree with the NRA that there is no direct correlation between youth suicides, school shootings, and gun availability ("people kill people"), I'm not surprised that most incidences of school gun violence have taken place in the Home of the Brave.

Mentally unstable kid + Mom 'n' Dad who don't properly secure their guns = tragedy.  Not an Obama problem.  A national problem.

Typical Democrat left wing BS.

The statistics on youth are skewed all to hell.

Take out the Gang bangers and drug dealers, the number drop OFF the charts. The death of death pushers do not count in my book, a criminal just because they are under a certain age, engaged in drug dealing deserves what comes with that turf.

How DARE we use these scumbags to skew the numbers to get legislation passed. And they are used by the Left every time.

As seen here, more children are killed by family pools, and 5 gallon buckets with liquid in them than with guns.

The reasons for the mass murders at our schools and colleges is where does a psychopath go to inflict the most carnage?.

WHERE there is no one to stop them. The threat of being shot while trying these heinous acts is non existent when they KNOW others are NOT armed at these institutions.

Shooting fish in a barrel is easy......................and our illustrious governments allow these mass murders to continue,by keeping the schools an open invitation to murder without fear.( NOT a NATIONAL problem, a disgrace not to allow them to be protected).

Also, without fail, have you ever noticed these events usually always happen JUST prior to a vote on the issue of the 2nd Amendment, and gun rights?.

Never seen it fail one time.

Agree to a point. Remember, the bulk of LEO's are used to kicking in the doors of people who don't expect a full out assault because they have an outstanding warrant for a old charge, are minor drug users/possessors, or may be at an incorrect address.  What happens when EVERY gunowner is expecting this and is fully armed?  How many LEO's go charging in when there is an armed and aware perp in a building? Almost never.  They bomb or tear gas it, piddle about negotiating, and maybe hope the guy makes a mistake they can take them out with a lucky shot. Now when that person is wired to his neighbors for backup, LEO's show up, can they afford to sit around and wait it out. Never. Did you see them crashing the LA riots? No, they cordoned off the area and let it burn itself out. I was in Philly when the MOVE assault took place and you couldn't get anywhere near it and they just let it burn. We sat at an outdoor bar at UoP and watched the smoke fill the sky. Didn't realize the implications then sadly. Lately you have LEO's killed trying to arrest vet's for CHILD SUPPORT. Vet's taking on fully armed police squads and surviving while killing LEO's. I posted before that I think LEO's are going to be targets in the scenario you suggest. Why? Because they know there are guns and ammo there. Park your cruiser in the driveway? It's like a neon sign saying 'Guns and Ammo'. I have neighbors who are retired LEO's and they don't think the outlook is good for uniforms if things go downside-up. Military are probably the best off since most of the one's I know and train with think the Popo are just cannon fodder when things go bad. Look at Greece, those crazy black hats throw molotovs in the police ranks like they're beads at Gasparilla. I hope and pray the military sides with the populace in any active roles in-country. In that case Fed or local, LEO's had better respect the armed populace or they won't last a month in a full blown SHTF collapse. My .02, .014 after taxes...

America will be remembered in history as THE nation where citizens had all the firepower needed to restore constitutional government yet they were too lazy / sheepish / apathetic (and pathetic) to do it.

Stop bitching about politicians and bankers.  Look in the mirror and see where the real problem is.

Stop talking about your "messiah" Ron Paul elected president and turning things around, it ain't gonna happen.

Stop talking about a revolution that'll happen "when things get bad enough".  Bullshit.  Things are way past bad enough already.

Since there will NOT be any sort of revolution at ANY time, leaving America is the only practical way I can see to have anything resembling freedom & liberty in the years ahead.

Frankly I don't believe America has much longer.  I believe invading Iran will escalate to thermonuclear, and Iran has 4 nuclear powers on their side including the biggest one on the planet.

Lawrence Livermore Laboratories (those guys what made the Hydrogen Bomb) tested the water in the hole that used to be building 6 of the World Trade Center complex after 9-11. They determined that even if every single cop gun equipped with Tritium sights and every single exit sign on every single airliner that got disappeared that day was vaporized and deposited into said hole then it would still not be enough to account for all the tritium they found there.

Which helps to illuminate the target. Because not everyone has a thermo nuclear weapon on their nightstand.

If McCain were in office today - gun sales would have still been going through the roof. I think people are honestly scared about financial collapse in general and lets face it, it really does not matter who is president. So give the credit to Obama if you want to, but do you really think that you are going to start buying less ammo if Romney is elected, or Santorum or Gingrich? I doubt it.

LucasATX ,

Check the stats bro, they will go down...........................the GOP is wed to the 2nd, it's one of their major voting blocs. And campaign  contributors.

Yes SOME people are apprehensive about what MAY be coming, but most I come in contact with are clueless.

If MORE folks were buying PM's along with weapons, then I may be more inclined to agree, but my money is on fear or the Dem's.

They are an Anathema to this country, GOP close 2nd.

Look at every BLUE state and their gun laws...................need I say more?.

I know a lot of people who voted obummer, and ,now that they see who he really is and the policies he is pursuing who are regretting their vote. A lot of them are arming up because they don't trust this government. My dad and mom are life long union democrates and when dad said he is voting for Ron Paul I about fell out of my chair. I personally believe it doesn't matter who is in office, but I can only tellyou what they are saying to me.
