Israel To Keep US In The Dark Before Launching Pre-emptive Iran Attack

Tyler Durden's picture

It had been a quiet week in terms of geopolitical developments out of Middle East. Too quiet, well aside for that whole US escalating once again bit, and forcing Iran to eventually go over the edge. And while the role of the US and Iran has been extensively digested in the past few weeks, it is Iran that has remained in the shadows recently. No longer: as Al Arabiya reports, "Israeli officials say they won’t warn the U.S. if they decide to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, according to one U.S. intelligence official familiar with the discussions. The pronouncement, delivered in a series of private, top-level conversations, sets a tense tone ahead of meetings in the coming days at the White House and Capitol Hill. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak delivered the message to a series of top-level U.S. visitors to the country, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the White House national security adviser and the director of national intelligence, and top U.S. lawmakers, all trying to close the trust gap between Israel and the U.S. over how to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions, according to The Associated Press." Needless to say, the thoroughly effete and comical US foreign policy has no response to follow up queries: "The White House did not respond to requests for comment, and the Pentagon and Office of Director of National Intelligence declined to comment, as did the Israeli Embassy." And while there may be no comments here, look for more warnings about Israeli citizens being targetted by deranged Iranian around the world. Because when all else fails, fearmonger. Next up: the Status Quo will be telling the world how not attacking Iran would be tantamount to global destruction. The only trade off - will the spike in crude to $150 outdo the surge in Obama's popularity rating as the Nobel Peace Prize winner puts his name in the hat for a nomination in the Nobel War Prize category as well.

More from Al Arabia, about how Iraq continues to be the case study for an Iranian invasion from Israel's perspective:

Netanyahu was asked about Begin’s decision to destroy an Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981, according to AFP.

The successful attack is often referred to by Israeli analysts when speculating about the possibility of an Israeli military operation against nuclear installations in Iran.

When asked if he had studied how Begin reached the decision to strike Iraq, Netanyahu insisted that each case is different.

“Each decision is a separate decision,” he said.

Netanyahu had said on Sunday that Iran’s controversial nuclear program, which Western powers believe is aimed at developing an atom bomb, would be the main topic in his discussions at the White House with President Barack Obama on March 5.

In the meantime, the US continues to lose ground to Israel when it comes to foreign interests:

The behind-the-scenes warning belies the publicly united front the two sides have attempted to craft with the shuttle diplomacy to each other’s capitals.

“It’s unprecedented outreach to Israel to make sure we are working together to develop the plan to deter Iran from developing a nuclear weapon,” and to keep them from exporting terrorism, said Maryland Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

He traveled there with the Intelligence Committee chairman, Rep. Mike Rogers, a Michigan Republican, to meet Israel’s prime minister and defense minister, along with other officials.

“We talked about the fact that sanctions are working and they are going to get a lot more aggressive,” Ruppersberger added, according to AP.

They also talked about presenting a unified front to Iran, to counter the media reports that the two countries are at odds over how and when to attack Iran.

“We have to learn from North Korea. All those (peace) talks and stalling and they developed a nuclear weapon,” he said. “We are going to send a message, enough is enough, the stalling is over. ... All options are on the table.”

“I got the sense that Israel is incredibly serious about a strike on their nuclear weapons program,” Rogers told CNN on Monday. “It’s their calculus that the administration ... is not serious about a real military consequence to Iran moving forward.”

“They believe they’re going to have to make a decision on their own, given the current posture of the United States,” he added.

Somehow we have a feeling that the so far peaceful war, that of words, is about to be enjoined by those "others" who have a stake in the conflict: Russia and China. And when that happens, go long Crude. Because the market has now entered the mania phase, where nothing short of a Lehman type failure can precipitate a massive deflationary collapse.

Which, incidentally, is precisely what will happen if and when WTI passes record highs in a few months.

Like so much in the world today, who cares?

Do we really need to live breathlessly, minute by minute, waiting for the next greecian formula or israeli genocide? Will PIIGS fail? Will the LTRO be 500B or 1T? Will the US have a failed bond auction?

There are so many black dragons in the air, they are starting to block out the sun. It is the propaganda of fear on steroids.

Clearing the air is a reality- Stop playing. Tyrants require the people to carry out their plans and machinations. Tyrants cannot strike you unless you furnish the arms and feet. Tyrants cannot steal your wealth, unless you send it in. Tyrants cannot steal your liberty, unless you hand them the keys to your souls.

No form of government can stand without the approval of the people. Educate the people and you can minimize the government.

That might be true, but all they need is for a significant majority of the people to be fucking stupid and they'll stand just fine.

Take a look around you, watch some mainstream TV - are there enough fucking stupid people around to make sure that they will get away with it?

Some people in my office got into a deep discussion about the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.  It was an in-depth, detailed conversation, to which I contributed nothing but silence.

Just for shites and giggles, I asked one in the group if they knew what was going on with Greece, the EU, or our economy in general, etc.  Nothing but a srhug and blank stares.

We ignore history and the world around us at our one peril.  Those who dont learn from history, etc. etc.

I compare it to the Poseidon Adventure--the sheeple are too busy laughing it up being all gluttonous until the shit hits the fan.  Then, they will realize the world as they knew it is gone, but it will be too late.  There wont be any more room to climb up the Christmas tree.

What puzzles me is the recent dovish stance by US officials. For years now they have been chomping at the bit to attack Iran. And just a couple of months ago their play book, Foreign Affairs, published that the time was right to attack Iran. Is it the calm before the storm. Sure feels like it.

Because US officials KNOW if they go to war with Iran now, the world economy will melt down by next teusday.

There is no real recovery. There is $7 TRILLION of central bank liquidity. Oil goes to $150-$200, and the whole thing crashes. Then what?

Also those ridiclous budget projections that Obama is using, have "savings" for draw down in troops from Iraq and Afghanstian. So far the bond market has tolerated $1T deficits. Imagine if they doubled overnight.

Obama goes to war now, he is a one term president. The current adminstration knows that a war with Iran is almost the worst thing they could do right now.

When the Germans invaded Russia, no one saw it coming. When Saddam attacked Iran, no one saw it coming either. This is the total opposite.

War hawks in Washington may want to invade Iran and occupy it but they can't and they know it. Since you won't attack, what's the harm in talking constantly to scare the enemy?

Lord James of Blackheath $15,OOO,OOO,OOO,OOO FRAUD EXPOSED February 16 2012

Lord James of Blackheath, House of Lords February 16 2012
Breaking news Lord James of Blackheath has spoken in the House of Lords holding evidence of three transactions of 5 Trillion each and a transaction of 750,000 metric tonnes of gold and has called for an investigation.

I think there are three possible conclusions that may come from it. I think there may have been a massive piece of money laundering committed by a major government which ought to know better and that it has effectively undermined the integrity of the British bank the Royal Bank of Scotland, in doing so. The second alternative is that a major American department has an agency that has gone rogue on it because it has been wound up and has created a structure out of which they are seeking to get at least 50 billion Euros as a payoff. And the third possibility is that this is an extraordinarily elaborate fraud which has not been carried out but which has been prepared in order to provide a threat to one government or more if they don't pay them off. So there are three possibilities and this all needs a very urgent review.

My Lords, it starts in April and May of 2009, with the alleged transfer to the United Kingdom, to HSBC of a sum of 5 trillion dollars and seven days later, in comes another 5 trillion dollars to HSBC, and then 3 weeks later another 5 trillion. 5 trillion in each case. Sorry. A total of 15 trillion dollars is alleged to have been passed into the hands of HSBC for onward transit to the Royal Bank of Scotland and we need to look at where this came from and what the history of this money is. And I have been trying to sort out the sequence by which this money has been created and from where it has come from for a long time.

Somehow we have a feeling that the so far peaceful war, that of words, is about to be enjoined by those "others" who have a stake in the conflict: Russia and China

Here's the bottom line...

The "sheep" can't connect the dots that engaging Iran is not like going into Wisconsin (to borrow a line from "Stripes")... The American public has been numbed into the idea that operations like 'Desert Storm' or 'Iraqui Freedom' (or NATO operation in Libya) are where the US military (or NATO forces) face an army that's rather disorganized and has no other interests behind it (or in Afghanistan where nobody really knows who the enemy is in the first place)...

Basically... With regards to Iran, they can't connect the dots to China & Russia (&, of course, WW3)...

There are several scenarios which could occur with Iran...

1. Nukes start flying... HIGHLY DOUBTFUL so I'll leave it at that

2. Conventional war... But in this case, you're not going to end up fighting the Iranian army, you're going to be fighting against a continuous supply side from Russia & China... Therefore, it will be BLOODY & PROLONGED... The American public, despite their general lazy attitudes towards everything, will not be able to stand for REAL WAR REPORTING (as happened during Vietnam back in the 60's)... This past decades war (and going all the way back to 'Desert Storm' & after 9/11) has all been a propaganda front to coax the sheeps into buying back into the idea that "war is fine"...

As this turns back into yet another quagmire, patience will be lost QUICKLY... There will be too many holes in the dike for the MSM to be able to fill (no matter what their masters say)... When public opinion turns, ALL WILL BE LOST...

I'd expect it to turn into civil unrest IN THIS COUNTRY... Which would include backlashes against Jews (because most would start to feel that they were responsible for our involvement), plus, the usual unrest that would occur as the society were to fracture due to high energy costs and other things attached to another war that very few Americans really want in the first place...

Seriously, not all Jewish-Americans are evil, but lately one could well imagine the majority believing such!

I would hasten to add, if Israel AND America both were involved in imperialistic aggression against Iran (and I would dearly love to see an end to the reign of the Mullahs), it is highly probable for an extremist backlash to occur in the northern African Arab countries, and Europe is such a short distance away from short-range missiles from that geographic location.

I seem to recall that Israel never mentioned their attack on the USS Liberty beforehand either?????

Peculiar, ain't it???

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=42e_1217271204

The latest news on the Liberty, the Navy spook ship attacked by Israel on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War, is that recently released National Security Agency documents are backing up what many -- including the survivors of Liberty -- have been saying for 40 years: that Israel knew full well that it was attacking -- with aerial strafing, napalm and torpedoes -- an American vessel.

Israel should go ahead and use nuclear weapons on targets like Natanz. I'd expect that fission weapons would suffice, like the ones that the USA employed in Japan.

It is the only practical means of putting a stop to Iran's building of "cancer treatments" in hardened underground bunkers.

A nuclear attack on Iran is morally justified: because Iran is seeking nuclear weapons and is verbally threatening Israel, it is logically estopped from objecting to the use of such weapons against itself.

Iran is perfectly entitled to construct nuclear energy facilities, and even nuclear weapons, which it has repeatedly stated it is not interested in pursuing.   Besides, if the world can tolerate Israel with over 300 illegal and undeclared nuclear weapons, surely Iran is not an issue.  Israel has proven time and time again that it is the more agressive and war like country afterall, so who is real threat?  If you live in Europe, and probably the U.S., you should be aware that Israel has nuclear weapons pointed right at you (sampson option) as yet another blackmail device to get what it want regardless of the harm done to other peoples.  enough Israeli bullying, it has no legal or moral right to control what Iran does or does not do.

Paraguay not Peru, there is no solid proof of this by the way, though there is some evidence that it did happen, if so it was done through a trust that cannot be traced back to the BushCo family easily.  The land in question does sit on a gas field and an important water aquifer and will one day be very valuable.  I would suggest that if indeed the BushCo's did buy that tract it was as an investment and not as an escape plan, but then you never know, maybe the USA is going to be obliterated by an asteroid or Yellowstone is going to erupt on December 21, leaving the northern hemisphere pretty much uninhabitable and the southern damaged but survivable.  It would explain why governments have no fear of economic collapse or destroying their money and the rule of law at the same time.

>people are walking fucktards if they don't think that even the threat of closure to the straits is not a crisis per se

It is not an insurmountable threat. It can be forcibly opened.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_mine, "The total number of mines laid in the North Sea, the British East Coast, Straits of Dover, and Heligoland Bight is estimated at 190,000 and the total number during the whole of WWI was 235,000 sea mines.[14] Clearing the barrage after the war took 82 ships and 5 months, working around the clock."

>i assure you that iran will not be crushed...

Absurd. It will be crushed at minimal expense in a matter of weeks. The air force of Iran is not even a match for Israel's. Any significant costs for USA will depend on the extent of nation-building.

Does the US really need to see more of this stupid butchery to know it's totally the wrong path to take?
