In fact, I have been keeping a list (and checking it twice, HOHOHO) of posters who I saw to be Ron Paul bashers, warmongers, zionists, jewish supremacists, or just plain old obnoxious name-callers and perverts, and guess what? Only one of the 22 names on my list has showed up here today to post anything at all and that person has received over 50 red arrows for the nonsense he did post. on this Christmas I just wanted to remember one of the most extraordinary events ever to occur in the middle of the perpetual insanity that is war.
it happened on Christmas eve and day in 1914.
I only mention this because I have a bad feeling that 2012 will be dominated by wars as it seems a much larger conflict is shaping up in the MENA region. I fear the possibility that next Christmas will bring draft notices instead of coal in the stockings.
In that time, on the western front of WW1 starting on Christmas eve soldiers and lower ranking officers from both British and German lines took it upon themselves to establish a unofficial truce. it started with Germans decorating the trenches with candles and singing carols on Christmas eve, to which the British responded by singing there own hymns and soon both sides were applauding each other. from there it snowballed into a full on cessation of hostilities for the entirety of Christmas day, both sides crossed over into the "no mans land" between the trenches, greeted each other, exchanged gifts, jokes and stories. they broke bread and drank wine and beer together, they played games.
they honored and buried their dead together.
the truce spread and if it wasn't for the blood lust of the PTB's on both sides, the war may have ended right then and there, but we all know that it continued and millions died.
still though, for just one day, one brief moment, the purest, truest meaning of Christmas was reveled in those soldiers who decided to keep the spirit of December the 25, even in the midst of war.
they decided that peace on earth and good will toward men were more than just catch phrases on cards and in songs, meant only for times of peace and prosperity. they decided that those words and there spirit were intended not only for friends and family, but also for those whom are considered your enemy.
they decided that nobody was going to die that day, a brief moment of sanity, fellowship and humility in the long, sad history of humanities self destructive obsession with the art of war.
we often devote honor and thanks to those who killed and died for their country and there fellow man.
but this Christmas I would like remember those men who quieted the guns and silenced the cannons for just that one day, when in the middle of a violent and destructive war the best qualities of humanity shined brightly.
a true miracle, the Christmas truce of 1914.
let's hope that spirit will find it way back into the harts of men in the days to come.

Merry Xmas all. I wrote a piece for ya all today, but first, since I am new, an introduction...
I am a new member, but actually I’ve been trying to gain admittance to this lucid lounge for two whole years. The first time I subscribed to ZH I mistakenly hit DELETE on my junk mail folder just as the phrase “looks like you are cool enough to join ZH” flashed by, and thus lost my password. Plus, it was a Shift-delete. You know what that means. This failure made me despondent for 1.9 years. Then I signed up again, but was foiled during the signup process trying to decipher the verification captcha (seriously! Am I the only one who can’t read these things? How much do you have to bend and distort the alphabet to fool a stupid machine? If they ever start using captchas at the automated grocery store checkout line I’m gonna go hungry).
But I’m in now, and feeling better. Runnin’ with the big dogs. Out of the 13 tabs that pop up when I start my browser, ZH is where I spend the preponderance of my time slices. It’s truth. It’s near perfection here (someone just give Team Tyler a speller dictionary for Xmas and it will be). I mean where else can you laugh (at the comments) and cry (at the posts) all on one page. To paraphrase what someone supposedly once said about Oakland: “There’s there there”. I want to be a part of that, but for the most part I’m going to just be over in the corner eavesdropping, because so may deep thinkers hang here. Plus, I’m scared of being called a f***tard or something if I trespass. I really don’t mind getting junked though, as it seems you can get a down vote for something as innocuous as wishing someone a nice day. BTW – even though I don’t want to be called one, I love that word; f***tard. For anyone who recalls the Pee-wee Herman show, it would have made a great ‘secret word’ of the day. Can you imagine?
So really. I only signed up to post you folks kudos for such an awesome membership (also was thinking it would enable me see a larger version of Robotrader’s avatar. Not true). I got the impulse to enroll after witnessing a flame exchange between to really smart, really knowledgeable, albeit pissed off, members. I mean they were just ripping each other a new one. I laughed so hard that if I had been a girl I would have peed my pants (that’s not a knock against women, it’s just that the only people I’ve ever known to pee their pants laughing have been female. For the love of god ladies please don’t call me a f-tard for this).
However, before retreating to my corner I have some questions…. all rhetorical. Like, does ZH make you laugh more, or make you more informed? Can’t be answered. You might as well try to guess the next number from a random generator. Another question is: How can the Team Tyler crew do what they do, and do it so well, and do it almost non-stop. My question here is the same that Butch Cassidy had for the Sundance Kid when he inquired; “Who are those guys?”
But a more important [and yet still rhetorical] question is; why is my avatar slightly smitten with that sultry, smoldering smoker with the handle of MsCreant? What is the source of my avatar’s fascination with that surely siren? There are several other slightly sassy, albeit clever female avatars around here. And wearing fewer clothes I might add. I guess I’m just picky. I mean, I’m not curious about Robot Trader’s Mom. No questions there. Guess I just like bad girls. Come to think of it, I know not whether that actually is a “she” lurking behind that mask. But come to think of it, I would be willing to bet all the options money I’m going to lose this month that she is indeed a girl. There’s a feminine lilt there. Wait… <research>…. <research> … aha! Ok. According to my calculations… she IS a she! I mean, *you* are a she (in case *you* are listening I don’t wish to be rude and speak of you in the 3rd person). You have a --husband--! No offense sir.
Hmmm. I think I am despondent again.

JUST SAYIN, HELLO….. PART 2
Feelin' the need to front run 2012....I would endeavor here to be sanguine and say something righteous and hopeful. What can be said to put this past year in a favorable light? Phew. Not an easy task as this has been a particularly bad year. As Dana Carvey used to mimic Bush senior; ‘It’s baaad’. Huge loss in the civil liberties column as just one example (I pick that category cause it’s the only one that keeps me awake at night). Well in times such as these, humans often take solace by comparing their current lot with the situation of someone in a less favorable position.
Hmmm. That’s a great idea, but not easy to locate an example, given that the entire planet is in a pickle, if not economically, then politically or climatically or somethinglly. We are one footstep away from either destroying our means of trading goods & services, or blowing the shit our of each other, or incurring radiation sickness simply from the non-hostile nuclear short sightedness, or losing our ability to grow food, or _____ fill in the blank.
Oh joy.
And given that we may be enduring some kind of multi-millennial, “full spectrum”, cosmic, mother-of-all paradigm shifts, it’s hard even to compare the current plight of humanity with the past because we might just be in for a modified mad max style rollercoaster ride that will make all heretofore events leading up to the present look like a round-a-bout ride at a children’s park in comparison. So that’s not an option either.
Well then where’s the joy? Who exactly are we better off than?? I know! We need to go off planet for this one. Let’s imagine…. ‘Holidays with the Skywalkers’.
Yeah, that’s it. Life on Tatooine was tough. No quiche eating men. No soft skinned females. It was harsh. Haaarsh. Sand storms for rain. Just imagine Thanxgiving dinner at the Skywalker’s house. Turkey? Nope. No turkeys on Tatooine. They had WOMP RATS. The closest Luke Skywalker ever came to “T” day was driving his T-16 landspeeder out to Beggars Canyon and blast the largest rodent he could get in his sights. Anything over two meters would feed the family. That’s assuming Bantha jerky and smuggler stew as side dishes, with jawa pudding for desert.
Think about that when you sit down to a nice ham dinner this evening, because there ain’t no pigs on Tatooine either. Come to think of it, Luke had the suckiest life I have ever heard of…

That gets me to thinking…could we pull off something like that? Could we take a page from Luke’s book and save, if not the galaxy, then perhaps our own little plot of ground we call terra firma? Could we cast off the REAL scummy control mechanism on this planet… the one that keeps us at each others throats? The one that forces us to line up on either side of a principal and defend it to the death under the illusion of ‘I am right’, therefore ‘you are wrong’.
But the question is, who is that enemy? I haven’t spotted anyone running around in an intimidating black suite and conical helmet, with similarly attired pint sized mini-me’s trailing along. Please peel back the layers and show yourself! Who is it pulling the strings and using us as pawns in a never ending cosmic gag reel that feeds off our energy? The radical right? The Squid? The Bilderbergs? The Illuminati? The Globalists? The man behind the curtain? For an answer, we turn once again to Dana Carvey, as… the Church Lady:
“Welcome to Church chat. Well, now, isn’t that a special question. Let’s see now. Could it beeeeeeee ……. SATAN?”
Actually, no. Try again.
“How conveeeeenient. Well, could it beeeeeeee ……. The EGO?”
Bing, bing, bing.
It’s us! Humans. All of us. We’re our own worst enemy. We’ve been fighting ourselves. A personal internal battle we each play out on a grand stage of illusion. And we’ve just about won. Which means we’ve just about lost.
Stick with me on this. Lets’ go back to Luke for a moment and draw further on George Lucas’s masterfully rekindled mythology of The Hero’s Journey. Remember when Luke trekked into that jungle on Degobah and met up with himself while ostensibly fighting Vader? The lesson was that at some point in the future Luke would face a choice. A life of service, or a life spent on the dark side. When later he knelt over his father at the end of the show he could have easily disregarded the fact that his dad just saved his life and gotten downright medieval on Vader’s sorry ass right then and there for all the massively evil things the little f-tard had done, starting with the death of the hottest little hottie in the galaxy. Or, he could keep his heart open as he had been and see through to the good in Anakin. His heart enabled the wisdom to see that his father was indeed, in the end… redeemable. I think it’s fair to say that father and son redeemed EACH OTHER in that final scene.
So what does it all mean? Can’t say for sure, but this is pretty ‘heady” stuff we deal with everyday in this lounge… elucidated brilliantly in the pages that Team Tyler builds. That’s fine, but to address the problems that our heads perceive, we must move into our hearts, me thinks.
Joseph Campbell spoke of the mythology of the Native American Indian, and the pact they had with the buffalo. Even though the buffalo ran like hell at the sight of a party of Indians with spears, there was in fact a secret accord in place whereby the buffalo gave permission for the Indians to hunt them, and in sacrificing their lives promoted themselves on the cosmic plane. It is a very high form of ‘play’ (think Michael Douglas in The Game, only more so). I tend to believe that somehow all of mankind is secretly complicit in the ‘games’ that we have been playing with each other throughout history. As serious and downright horrifying this dance between the TPTB and the masses gets at times, we likely have all chosen to be here now, in the roles we are each in, and further, we have chosen a stage for our play that renders the illusion of separateness, and thus we are each somehow ‘incomplete’ within our own supposed separateness. Thus we seek to take from ‘others’ to complete ourselves…. ergo… love, war, you name it… the game’s afoot!
I mean yeah, we may have to simply get the laser swords out at some point and hack the squid into little p-i-e-c-e-s, or, we may be able to instead make p-e-a-c-e by simply allowing for the possibility for humans to start operating through their hearts instead of their heads. The ego lives through the mind. The true self lives through the heart. Through such action we may be able to raise our consciousness sufficiently to choose another way to play with each other. The current choice is getting a little old, and truthfully….it might be the only way to actually ‘win’ this fight.
That’s right. I am respectfully suggesting that in spite of appearances, it might be less about the global *elite*, and more about raising global *consciousness*. What we perceive to be the failings of human nature may fall away as we take on the mantle of a higher truth.
Just sayin…

I had a few Yankee swap grab bags to buy gifts for this year. $20 max. I went to my local coin shop and bought a handful of junk silver coins. When I told the shopowner I was giving them as gifts, he knocked a few bucks off the coins and gave me some nice jewlery bags to put them in.
The coins were well recieved, and some of the best presents at the party. I came away with strawberry jam and a crummy dvd. Oh well, merry Christmas.
