The US Labor Market Is In A Full-Blown Depression

Tyler Durden's picture

Now that stocks are back to reflecting nothing more than expectations of how many times the Chairsatan dilutes the existing monetary base in a carbon copy replica of not only 2011 but also 2010... and 2009 (because contrary to what purists may believe, the only way to inflate away unsustainable debt in a growth-free economy is by destroying the currency), and manic pattern chasers have crawled out of their holes proclaiming the death of the bear market after a two day bounce, what is happening in the actual economy, no longer reflected by the market, has once again been pulled back to the backburner. Which is sad, because while ever fewer people reap the benefits of artificial, centrally-planned S&P rallies, the rest of the population suffers, and what is worse: hope for a quiet, middle-class life is now an endangered species. Nowhere is this more evident than in the following list from David Rosenberg which summarizes how, quietly, the US labor force slipped back into a full-blown depression.

From David Rosenberg:

One Sick Labor Market

There were so many disturbing elements to the May jobs data that we're not sure we can do justice to the litany of disappointments (with some help from our friends at the Investor's Business Daily):

  • The share of long-term unemployment is at its highest level since the Great Depression (42%).
  • Fully 54% of college degree graduates under the age of 25 are either unemployed or underemployed.
  • 45 million Americans are on food stamps — one in seven residents.
  • 47% of Americans are on some form of government assistance.
  • The employment-to-population ratio for 25-54 year olds is now 75.7%, lower than it was when the recession supposedly ended in June 2009.
  • The number of people not in the labour force has swelled eight million since the recession ended; absent that effect, the unemployment rate would be 12% right now (about the same as President Obama's election chances would be).
  • The number of people confident enough to leave their jobs fell 11% in May
for the second month in a row to 891k, the lowest since November 2010.
  • The ranks of the unemployed who have been looking fruitlessly for work for at least 27 weeks jumped 310k in May, the sharpest increase since May 2011.
  • The unemployment rate for males aged 16-19 is 27% and for males between 20 and 24 it is 13%. Draw your own conclusions from a social (in)stability standpoint.
  • One in seven Americans are either unemployed or underemployed.
  • Only one in six of the youth are working full-time and three-in-five are living with their folks or another relative (as per the NYT).
  • A mere 16% of the 2009-2011 graduating class has found full-time work, while 22% are working part-time. Even those hired from 2006-08, just 23% are working full-time.
  • According to a poll cited in the NYT, just 14% of high-school grads today believe they will have a more successful financial future than their parents Line of the day, as depressing as it is, comes from an 18-year old: "Thank God I had a buddy at Burger King who could help me out". Fast-food has emerged as the fast-growing industry in a country once led by technology. Even tech now is fuelled more by companies that produce nifty consumer gadgets and feed our narcissistic needs than those who focus on improving the nation's capital stock which is the ultimate trailblazer for productivity growth and durable gains in our standard-of-living.

If you are part of the 1%, why would you even care about starting a yoga studio? To me that's such a middle class / upper middle class / lower upper class niche market, flooded with hot chicks and douchebag guys... but hey, there is nothing wrong with dreaming, unless you don't have the fire to make your dreams come true.

I'd say that start up businesses that cater to the middle / upper class will more than likely fair better in a shitty economy, simply because these guys have some money / savings and or credit to piss through... so even if they have zero income, they still have the "credit" to buy stupid shit or get daddy to pay for it.

Poor people would buy a yoga book at goodwill for 25 cents and learn the postures, then train these rich cunts how to do it and charge them out the ass to do it. Knowledge is power. Money is power. A person with knowledge and money, is indeed very powerful in a world of fools.

hot yoga is booming and has been for 10+ years.  The demo is girls in their 20's-30's and daytime women in their 60's.  Women do it as a substitute for the gym.

There is no shortage of yoga instructors, to me the hot yoga is the thing, wierd stuff like the hanging yoga is a fad.

‘In 1958 Robert Welch founder of John Birch Society disclosed in a speech that America is going to be destroyed from within. Mr. Welch goes on to tell how this will be done and destroying our liberties’.

Click here    Starting @ 3min, you can begin debating over viable solutions offered back in 1958.

10 Steps to destroy the Republic.

  • Greatly expanded government spending for every conceivable means of getting rid of ever larger sums of American money as wastefully as possible.
  • Higher and then much higher taxes.
  • An increasingly unbalanced budget despite the higher taxes.
  • Wild inflation of our currency.
  • Government controls of prices, wages and materials supposedly to combat inflation.
  • Greatly increased socialistic controls over every operation of our economy and every activity of our daily lives. This is to be accompanied naturally and automatically by a correspondently huge increase in the size of our bureaucracy and the cost and reach of our domestic government.
  • Far more centralization of power in Washington and the practical elimination of our state lines. There is a many faceted drive at work to have our state lines to mean no more within our nation as our county lines do now within the states.
  • The steady advance of federal aid to and control over our educational system leading to complete federalization of our public education.
  • A constant hammering into the American consciousness of the horror of modern warfare. The beauties and the absolute necessities of peach, peace always on communist terms of course.
  • The constant willingness of the American people to allow the steps of appeasement by our government that amount to a piece meal surrender of the rest of the free world and the United States itself.

Food for thought!

Federal income taxes on both individuals and business are lower than in 1958.

Wild inflation? I been hearing that government deficits and trade deficits cause inflation for 30 years. Now the federal government deficit is several tims what the entire federal budget used to be. The result is supposed to be drastically higher interest rates from what I was taught. Instead interest rates are negative after inflation. Why? Beats me but it seems to be the government's doing - not in accordance with the Birch plan which says they want wild inflation.

There hasn't been significant government wage and price control since Nixon. In fact it's decreased. They used to control trucking and airplane rates. No more. Any attempt to control drug prices paid by government insurance has been declared illegal.

I think states have more power relative to federal than in 1958. For one thing they all have enacted huge new revenue sources and get most of their own money.

Our educational system doesn't really teach anything effectively. Using that as a means of indoctrination into some NWO would fail miserably.

War is horrible. Don't know myself but my nephew told me so after his two weeks in Iraq led to life long disability at a taxpayer cost of 4 million plus not counting equipment, etc. Benefit was?

Most American people would surrender themselves to Kim Kardashian, McDonalds or Apple. Pretty much the wimpiest people on earth despite their many guns. When was the last US general strike?

I propose that all USA agencies abandon using an eagle as symbol of their power.

Eagles are free and noble unlike our us govt...instead I propose the symbol be changed to a condom.....

a "CONDOM" because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance...A condom allows for... INFLATION...HALTS PRODUCTION...DESTROYS THE NEXT GENERATION...PROTECTS A BUNCH OF DICKS...and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being ...SCREWED...

The majority of legal immigration is from Africa--the majority of illegal immigration is from Latin America. Do you work your ass off more if you are a legal immigrant or an illegal immigrant?

I did a major project for The Department of Homeland Security prior to the economic downturn and was able to get hundreds of workers in there without papers. All you had to do was fill out a waiver that showed the unemployment rate below a certain level and that there was not enough skilled workers wanting those jobs.

Today you can only get American citizens on U.S. government projects. The private sector is still hiring non citizens just like when the economy was booming. Not sure these private sector hiring managers realise the risk they are taking on.

UK’s Cameron urges world to do more to isolate Syria

British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Thursday the international community has to do more to isolate the Syrian regime after the latest “brutal and sickening” massacre. “We need to do much more to isolate Syria,” Cameron told reporters during a stop in Oslo. Syrian opposition activists say scores have died in what is described as a new massacre in the central Hama province. Cameron said that if the reports are true, it adds further proof that the Syrian regime is “completely illegitimate and cannot stand.”

http://rt.com/news/line/2012-06-07/#id32200

--

Oh yes, NATO absolutely will not let go until it has created several more wars via a the use of "false-flag-terrorism" massacres.

Doubt was being cast, by people all around the world, and especially in Syria, on the origisn of that last massacre, namely, who really did do it?  Plus we saw Assad stand-up in public and say to the entire World that his Govt had absolutely nothing to do with such a, "great atrocity""Not even monsters would carry out such an ugly crime" - Assad

But yet again, within just 24hrs ... presto! ... another very similar massacre pops up nearby ... same deal as before, ... supposedly and also allegedly 'western' (but really, Joo-controlled) 'Govts' immediately blamed Assad's army for this, when it's perfectly obvious that zero investigation of the facts has actually taken place, or may even be possible (after all, the very first casualty of any war, or in this case an insurgency, is the Truth), and these govts clearly have no tangible evidentiary basis for apportioning blame ... TO ANYONE!

But again, these alleged western 'leaders' are just immediately calling for a complete removal of the current Govt of Syria, by force if necessary, "... if these reports are true ..."!

They know that they don't know if such reports are true, or false, but they absolutely insist on speaking and acting as though these things are known, or at least these things should be assumed, and the onus place on the thus presummed guilty, to prove they are innocent!

But this is the lowest and rankest form of global propaganda attack and smear, by David Cameron.  This is what a Webmaster/moderator would instantly recognise as a "Personal Attack".

Two can play that card David. Let's have a look; Cameron is a zionist, Cameron is bankster-puppet 'politician', Cameron is an active planner and hatcher of the Libyan war, and its scree of war crimes.  And quite incidentally, Cameron just happens to be a joo.  (and Sarkozy likewise, ... just happened to be a joo).

Cui Bono?

In reality, this is almost certainly a false-flag terrorism attack, staged for pure political intervention purposes, and performed by these western govt's militia-proxies

i.e. a considered and deliberate provocation and assault on the peace of the whole world.

Clearly the 'west' will not get a new "We-Now-Bomb-You-Zone", in a deal or agreement with Russia and China, this time around the geopolitical mullberry-bush.

Thankfully the Russians and Chinese are awake to the recent manipulations of the UNSC in the Libya case, by NATO and the USSA.

So now this 'west' must push for direct actions OUTSIDE the (stupefyingly manipulated and generally frigged-with) formal UN Sickurity Council forum/process.

i.e. The US and NATO must and now more-or-less will declare war on Syria, almost but not quite 1939 style, via building a pretext that they can not just standby while terrible massacres of children occur ... for these NATO/Washinton vermin would dearly like to write themselves a moral blank-cheque to do a whole lot more of these, ASAP.

They won't call it that of course, but that's what its effect will be, or will become.

And Hillary and her fellow psycho-clowns will have to paint Moscow and Beijing as irresponsible vile ogres and next to complicit with these massacres, in order to get this line up in the 'western' (joo) media lie-factory(s).

And thus the needed polarisations of the, "us, verses the them", will be re-kindled towards the next great war and mega slaughter.

Who benefits?

(follow the money)

NOTE:  It is important to realise that WWII was a patchwork of dislocated and physically isolated battle campaigns that waxed and waned in intensity, for several years. We are not seeing full state to state battle campaigns yet, but we are getting there, and ther patch work of isolated conflicts is there and it is growing, and the US/NATO AXIS is pushing to kick off Syria, then Iran, as we slip closer and closer to general war, by the month.  Just today we read this:

Panetta admits that US is at war in Pakistan

Published: 07 June, 2012, 01:40

"Hold the phone, anti-war activists. President Obama says that American troops are done with Operation Iraqi Freedom and their episode in Afghanistan is almost over. Now, though, it looks like the US is calling its operation in Pakistan an actual war. ... “We are fighting a war in the FATA, we are fighting a war against terrorism,” Secretary Panetta said this week. Panetta was referring to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, a region in northwest Pakistan that is currently the scene of American airstrikes. "

http://rt.com/usa/news/panetta-us-war-pakistan-225/

--

That is a war between one nuclear-armed state against another nuclear-armed state.

AND FOR QUITE OBVIOUS REASONS, THIS HAS NEVER OCCURRED BEFORE TODAY.

Fortunately our 'Leaders' are exceptionally capable people who never make dumb mistakes or miscalculations of any sort, so we can completely trust them with this.

And also this one ;

The drones must go on: US won’t stop CIA strikes in Pakistan

Published: 13 April, 2012, 21:52  Edited: 14 April, 2012, 04:40

"Washington "has no intentions" to end CIA drone strikes against militant targets in Pakistan, American media report citing unnamed US officials. The news comes hours after a Pakistani resolution called on the US to end its attacks. "

http://www.rt.com/news/pakistan-us-nato-demands-022/

--

That's pretty clear, no matter what Pakistan says or does, the USSA intends to attack Pakistan in every way which it sees fit, anywhere they want to.  And note the re-emergence of the "war on Terror" paradigm within Panetta's quote.

I can almost smell the neo-con soup still on his breath!
