Paul vs Paul: Watch Paul Krugman Dispense Keynesian Brilliance, Debate Ron Paul Live

Tyler Durden's picture

What Would Krugman Do? (obviously, that is rhetorical). Supreme Keynesian Voodoo acolyte Paul Krugman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul go head to head on fixing the U.S. economy at 4pm ET today on Bloomberg Television’s “Street Smart.” Watch the live webcast beginning at 3pm ET for Krugman, who will be guest-hosting “Street Smart” until 5pm ET.  On the heels of the recent "controversial" NYT piece, where Krugman called on Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to do more for the U.S. economy, Krugman will be asked to explain exactly how more stimulus will create jobs and put the economy back on the growth track. Also just what rug will the trillions in additional debt be swept under.  Then at 4pm, Krugman will face the ultimate debate with Ron Paul, who has called for drastic cuts in spending. Grab your popcorn now.

I swear he sounds retarded, he really does! My money is on Ron Paul, but neither are all that articulate so it should be somewhat painful to watch. Do u think Ron pulls out the Silver bullet and a mirror? Just to be sure he knows who he is dealing with. This should be interesting, hoping Ron is on his A game, Krugman doesn't have an A game...

Krugman:  "We're not sure where the line between money and non-money is."

EXACTLY!  THAT IS THE PROBLEM!

Dr. Paul:  "The Romans and the Greeks debased their currencies and they did it without a computer."

CLASSIC!

Krugman:  "Economic policies after WWII stimulated growth."

No you dipshit, the U.S. actually made things and there were career jobs, not to mention the explosion of agricultural productivity due to oil based fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, and transportation.  Growth and expansion.  We are now post-industrial, post-service, and into an information economy (iPad economy).  Non-growth.  Money printing and debt will only make things worse.

Krugman believes in markets yet FED intervention in markets.  What?

yeah, Ron should skip trying to  tie the Roman empire to the fed..It was 2000 years ago, and they had a lot of land to manage and not enough of a military to keep the vanquished under their thumb.  Then he forgot the whole dark ages thing when more than 99% of the world couldn't read or know when to take a bath. Rome couldn't 'manage' their empire after a while.

Dr. Paul is holding his own thus far. I would have liked him to call Krugman out on his comment on Japan and how theyre able to hold a significantly higher percentage of debt. Rep Paul's closure was much better thenKrugmanns I snuck into the boardroom to watch this.  What boggles my mind Krugmann states is is concerned about savers but his statements are not congruent with helping savers.  Inflation is the way to go and that really bothers me.  He never really explained how this will help employment. At least Paul did his best to hold his own as opposed to the party fed line.

Ron knows his stuff but is not a great speaker.  Paul shut down the pretty lady siding with the party line.  He hit the nail on the head with the fed about business not feeling good.  Hard to plan when politicians cannot even pass a budget.  This has nothing to do with the Fed until you add the politicians.

It wasn't strictly the Fed that caused it as the central banks and nations of the world were fighting over many things like the remaining debt and compensation for such that remained after WWI, and the dollar just wasn't as ubiquitous then as it is now, and other reasons like the lack of knowledge about farming and the cause of the dustbowl as well as stock market fraud.

Paul nails him...it was the liquidization of debt (around 6:20) to which Krugman bails off into a Friedman strawman.

Again, Friedman was anti-Federal Reserve Bank. but he recognized the Federal Reserve was "the fact on the ground" at that time.

No one was talking about doing away with the Federal Reserve or even auditing that black hole back then. Friedman would have looked like a nut to even broach the subject.
