It's perhaps not the most shocking headline given the circumstances but as Bloomberg reports via DPA, the man in charge of handling the correspondence at Italy's upper house of parliament was arrested Tuesday by police on drug charges. While there is no suggestion he peddled his drugs inside the senate, it seems mild-mannered Orlando Ranaldi who managed the Senate's post office by day, was a Tony Montoya-like 'Italo-Albanian' gang-member cocaine-dealer by night. We are sure Monti will just let this 'blow' over, but from now on - any unusual white powder found in envelopes may not be sniffed at like it was in the past.

Rome (DPA) -- The man in charge of handling the correspondence at Italy's upper house of parliament was arrested Tuesday by police on drug charges.
Orlando Ranaldi, 53, is the manager of the Senate's post office. But outside of normal office hours he doubled up as a cocaine dealer in the suburbs south of Rome, investigators said.
There is no suggestion that he also peddled drugs inside the Senate.
Ranaldi is accused of being part of an Italo-Albanian gang. Nine other people - three from Albania and seven from Italy - were arrested in the same police operation, including a traffic police officer and a bus driver.
"We are amazed, even if he is not an employee of the Senate: he was sent by the post company to work here," said Paolo Franco of the Northern League, one of three senators who are responsible for administrative affairs within the institution.
