This week’s Chart of the Week video looks at the stock market’s reaction to this past week’s FOMC announcement.
Question: why is it when the market goes up, it is the correct response to some news or event and when it goes down, the market is getting the wrong message? Wall Street Journal reporter and Federal Reserve mouthpiece, Jon Hilsenrath, came out with yet another late on Friday news report and video in hopes of goosing the markets higher to salvage an otherwise ugly week. Hilsenrath was perplexed (and Bernanke must have been as well) because according to Hilsenrath, Bernanke’s message was dovish especially on interest rates, and in light of the end of the week selloff, of course, Hilsenrath was suggesting that all the good in the FOMC’s minutes was “overlooked” by the markets. Investors have it wrong.
So let’s get technical.
