Where Candidates Fear To Tread - Pervasive Racketeering Is Destroying America
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/03/2015 12:35 -0500In this moment of history there is an astounding lack of seriousness among people who pretend to be political heavyweights. No one so far has nailed a proper bill of grievances to the White House gate. A broad roster of dire issues facing this society ought to be self-evident. But since they are absent so far in the public discussion, here is our list of matters that serious candidates should dare to talk about (all things that a sitting president could take action on)...
Obama Authorizes "Defensive" Airstrikes Against Assad Regime In Syria
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/03/2015 08:38 -0500"President Barack Obama has authorized using air power to defend a new U.S.-backed fighting force in Syria if it is attacked by Syrian government forces or other groups, raising the risk of the American military coming into direct conflict with the regime of President Bashar al-Assad," WSJ reports.
Another One Bites The Coal Dust - Alpha Natural Files For Bankruptcy
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/03/2015 08:02 -0500Amid the collapse in coal prices, not helped by the 'China situation' and President Obama's nudge, WSJ reports that the ailing US coal just got another black eye as Alpha Natural Resources is expected to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection early Monday to cut its more than $3 billion debt load. After four straight annual losses, Alpha - one of America's largest coal producers - has secured $692mm in DIP financing as it prepares its restructuring plan expected to sell some of the best mines and shutter others. It appears the Arch Coal's CEO's ominous words last week were prophetic - “Coal markets are as difficult as I’ve seen them during my 30 years in the industry."
The Real Story Behind Turkey's US-Backed "War On Terror"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/30/2015 14:15 -0500To let the media tell it, recent "attacks" - including a suicide bombing that killed 32 people earlier this month - have prompted Turkey to officially join the fight against ISIS. In reality, Ankara's motivations can be explained not by a desire to rid the world of "terrorists", but by considerations of political expediency and by an autocrat's insatiable thirst for power.
New York Mayor de Blasio Demands A Federal Bailout For Puerto Rico
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/30/2015 11:40 -0500While the Puerto Rican creditors' bargaining power on the island is to put it mildly, negligible, especially after the budget director made the imminent default into a crusade of poor versus rich, saying he won’t redirect cash from its operating budget to make debt payments, an unexpected supporter has emerged thousands of miles from the beleaguered island: New York's socialist mayor Bill DeBlasio. As CBS reports "New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio demanded President Obama and Congress immediately come to the island's fiscal rescue." "It's the federal government's obligation to act, because they can't stand idly by and watch Puerto Rico fail," de Blasio told a crowd of hundreds of Puerto Rico boosters gathered on the steps of City Hall.

White House Denies Snowden 'Pardon' Petition, Warns "We Are Living In A Dangerous World"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/28/2015 11:06 -0500After two years and a massive 167,000 signatures, FirstLook reports that The White House has officially denied a hugely popular whitehouse.gov petition calling for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden to be “immediately issued a full, free, and absolute pardon,” saying thanks for signing, but no, stating that "Mr. Snowden’s dangerous decision to steal and disclose classified information had severe consequences for the security of our country and the people who work day in and day out to protect it." While acknowledging that "this is an issue that many Americans feel strongly about," Lisa Monaco, President Obama’s advisor on homeland security and terrorism, said in a statement, "we live in a dangerous world."
Obama: "I Think I’m A Pretty Good President. I Think If I Ran Again, I Could Win"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/28/2015 09:29 -0500"Now, let me be honest with you," Obama said. "I am in my second term. It has been an extraordinary privilege for me to serve as the President of the United States. I cannot imagine a greater honor or a more interesting job. I love my work. But under our Constitution, I cannot run again." He then added: "I actually think I’m a pretty good president. I think if I ran, I could win. But I can’t. So there’s a lot that I’d like to do to keep America moving, but the law is the law."
A Disaffected Democrat Deplores His Potemkin Party Of Populism
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/27/2015 15:30 -0500
This period of history resembles the 1850s in America in two big ways: 1) our society faces a crisis, and 2) the existing political parties are not up to the task of comprehending what society faces. In the 1850s it was the Whigs that dried up and blew away (virtually overnight), while the old Democratic party just entered a 75-year wilderness of irrelevancy. God help us if Trump-o-mania turns out to be the only alternative.
185 Billion Reasons Why The US Agreed To Nuclear Deal With Iran
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/27/2015 12:49 -0500Many have questioned just why President Obama was so keen to get the Iran nuclear deal done - apparently with almost no real concessions - in the face of allies home and abroad deriding the agreement. Well, if one were so inclined, OilPrice.com explains that Iran's deputy oil minister for commerce and international affairs, Hossein Zamaninia, told Reuters that the country has already identified 50 oil and gas projects it will offer for bids - with the government pegging the value of these properties at $185 billion...
Donald Trump's Top 30 Insults
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/26/2015 20:45 -0500Amid the 16 (yes sixteen!) candidates for Republican Presidential nominee, there is one, and only one, that stands above the rest in terms of sheer un-filtered, un-political, and some would say un-presidential outspoken-ness. In an oustanding aggregation of abuse, The Hill has documented Donald Trump's Top 30 insults (so far in the 2016 campaign alone).
Iran's Supreme Leader Has A Message For President Obama
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/25/2015 17:58 -0500Attention America's Suburbs: You Have Just Been Annexed
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/24/2015 18:00 -0500It’s difficult to say what’s more striking about President Obama’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) regulation: its breathtaking radicalism, the refusal of the press to cover it, or its potential political ramifications. The danger AFFH poses to Democrats explains why the press barely mentions it. This lack of curiosity, in turn, explains why the revolutionary nature of the rule has not been properly understood. It will take time for the truth to emerge. Just by issuing AFFH, the Obama administration has effectively annexed America’s suburbs to its cities. The old American practice of local self-rule is gone. We’ve switched over to a federally controlled regionalist system. Now it’s strictly a question of how obvious Obama and the Democrats want to make this change — and when they intend to bring the hammer down.
President Obama Visits Family In Kenya, Despite Leaked Schedule Security Concerns
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/24/2015 07:31 -0500As President Obama completes the re-fueling ahead of the second leg aboard Air Force One on his way to Kenya to visit extended family (and we are sure to do some America-related business), concerns over security have been dismissed after the President's schedule was leaked this week by a Kenyan airline. However, as China Daily reports, Susan Rice, the National Security Adviser said that Obama will not visit his family's ancestral village of Kogelo due to "time and logistical reasons."
Strategic Petroleum Reserve No Longer Key Part Of US National Security
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/23/2015 13:10 -0500The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), once seen as a cornerstone of America’s energy security, is losing its shine in Washington.
