All Eyes On The ECB: Fearful Markets Pray Mario Draghi "Panicks"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 09/03/2015 06:01 -0500All eyes will be on Mario Draghi on Thursday as expectations for something big from the former Goldmanite have grown over the past two weeks. More specifically, some now think the odds of QE expansion have increased considerably in light of collapsing eurozone inflation expectations, the incipient threat of some $1 trillion in QE-offsetting EM FX reserve draw downs, turmoil in China's financial markets, heightened volatility across the globe, and chaos in emerging markets from LatAm to AsiaPac.
The Week That Laid The Experts Bare
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/30/2015 12:40 -0500The week that passed has left many of the so-called “smart crowd” flummoxed, disheveled, dismayed, and disrobed from their expensive facades of “expert insightful analysis.” It seems all that “expert” as well as “insight” wasn’t all it was made out to be. In less than a week: historic records weren’t only broken – they were smashed to smithereens. And the one’s that were the most historic? They weren’t set for positive things.
$7.1 Trillion In Global Sovereign Wealth Fund Assets: The Infographic
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/30/2015 12:04 -0500"The first three months of 2015 only saw a marginal increase in SWF assets in the headwind of falling oil prices. TheCityUK expects that SWFs’ assets will increase by 4% in 2015 to $7.4 trillion, well below the 12% average annual growth seen over the previous five years. Flows into some funds could turn negative. Growth in SWFs’ assets is closely related to the price of oil, as around 60% of SWFs’ assets originate from commodity exports."
Why The Great Petrodollar Unwind Could Be $2.5 Trillion Larger Than Anyone Thinks
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/29/2015 21:04 -0500The virtuous circle that has sustained the dollar and buoyed USD assets for decades has definitively been broken. Now, with China's Treasury liquidation serving to exacerbate the pressure from the demise of the petrodollar, it's critical to take stock of accumulated petrodollar reserves in order to understand how large the unwind could ultimately be in a worst case scenario. As it turns out, narrowly focusing on official FX reserves could understate the size of petrodollar accumulation by some $2.5 trillion.
What Bill Dudley's Hedge Fund Advisors Told Him About A September Rate Hike
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/29/2015 17:42 -0500When it comes to soliciting opinions, the NY Fed in general, and former Goldmanite Bill Dudley in particular, care about just one group of "advisors" - the Investor Advisory Committee on Financial Markets (a group created in July 2009 after the 2008 market crash) also known as the billionaires who run the country's biggest hedge funds, prop desks and PE firms, including JPM, Credit Suisse, Apollo, Blackrock, Blue Mountain, Brevan Howard, Tudor, Fortress, and lo and behold, David "Balls to the Wall" Tepper.
Biggest Short Squeeze Since 2008 Bank Bailout And Epic VIX Rigging Sends Stocks Green For The Week
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/28/2015 15:06 -0500The Investor Revolt Arrives: This Hasn't Happened Since Q4 2008
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/28/2015 09:20 -0500Given Monday's flash-crashing mayhem, and given how predisposed household investors are to mistrust Wall Street in the post-crisis, post-Flash Boys world, retail outflows during uncertain times shouldn’t come as a surprise, but as Credit Suisse notes, something happened in July and August that hasn’t happened since Q4 of 2008...
Cutting Through The HFT Lies: What Really Happened During The Flash Crash Of August 24, 2015
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/25/2015 16:32 -0500One of the fallacies being propagated about yesterday's flash crash, is that somehow HFTs came riding in as noble white knights and rescued the market from a collapse instead of actually causing it. This particular lie is worth a few quick observations and explanations of what really happened.

Flash Crash Alert: Navinder Sarao Granted Bail, To Leave Prison Today
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/14/2015 08:13 -0500Earlier today, one of the biggest farces of 2015 was remedied when a UK judge granted Sarao a bail reduction from £5m to £50,000 and was allowed to leave prison as soon as today. As profiled before, Sarao had been at the infamous Wandsworth prison - Britain's worst - since his arrest. As the FT reports, at a court hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court in London today, a lawyer for the US said he would not oppose the bail reduction.
Biggest US Dark Pool Busted For Rigging Markets, Engaging In Precisely The Manipulation It Warned Against
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/11/2015 17:07 -0500The WSJ reported that none other than the operator of the biggest dark pool in the US by volume, Credit Suisse and its massive Crossfinder dark pool, "is in talks with regulators to settle allegations of wrongdoing at its “dark pool” with a record fine in the high tens of millions of dollars, according to people familiar with the matter." What is grotesque about this story, is that back in December 2012, it was none other than Credit Suisse which conveniently explained and laid out all those forms of HFT manipulation which we accused virtually every HFT firm of employing since 2009... and which Credit Suisse itself is now accused of engaging in!
New York Hedge Fund Och-Ziff Under Investigation For Bribery In $100M "Loan" To Zimbabwe Dictator Mugabe
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/07/2015 14:00 -0500In this case, it’s not just about theft and destroying the world economy. Giant financial firms can apparently just “settle” even when grotesque human rights abuses occur. This is how “justice” works in America.
3 Warnings For Market Bulls
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/06/2015 15:30 -0500"The question for 2015 is whether Fed actions are going to take away the liquidity punch bowl, and create a problem for the next rally's ability to achieve escape velocity... We saw this principle of diminished liquidity back in 1998-2000, and again in 2007-08..."
The Hard Truth: For Retail Investors, The NYSE Is Always Out Of Service
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/23/2015 17:15 -0500The real reason why retail investors weren't impacted by the NYSE's halt is a hard truth... to retail investors, the NYSE is always dark
Where Do Retail Investor Orders Go? The simple answer: to the highest contracted bidder. Stock "wholesalers" or internalizers like Citadel or Knight pay retail brokers lots of cash to execute retail trades, essentially creating a "third market". Why? Because in a high frequency trading world, where stock prices have never been more fuzzy to the end user, but crystal clear to those that spend enormous sums on colocation and PhD employees, it's never been easier to print money (not unlike Bernie Madoff's scheme in the 90's). But that is the subject of a much, much longer story. Someone should write a book.
