In Venezuela, soldiers are rewarded for the loyal service to the government...

...with tampons, toilet paper, and toothpaste...

Socialist Utopia indeed...

It's all that it takes to sell out on their country and it's people. When you join the army or police, they do a psychological test.Do you know why that test is for?Not to see if you're sane but TO SEE HOW THEY CAN MOLD YOU!If you have a strong character and are able to form your own decisions, you won't get the job.You need to be able to follow commands with a tought. So never expect to much from the army or police. When they're nice to you, it's because they have been ordered to.And if they're told to beat you to pulp, they will.

Once again Zero Hedge's fucking idiot Tyler Durden (who ever you are) can not hide their exaggerated hate towards the socialist system in Venezuela.   ZerosHit is making shit up implying that the Venezuelan soldiers get pay with US fiat money $ = Toilet paper. ZerosHit should know that the US hegemony will come to the end of its life cycle once the $ (toilet paper) is replaced by the Renminbi (gold backing). Let us hope that the evil empire (USA), before or at the end of its existence or at the end of its life cycle does not totally destroy humanity (WWIII), since it is the only way to get out of its external debt, Which the economists in the US and Europe call "RESET".   The US sudo-capitalist system is totally unsustainable because of its extreme external debt (19 trillion) that it can never afford and because the resources in the world are limited, population growth and environmental deterioration. ZerosHit is just full of them self pushing the believe of American exceptionalism, the divine destiny and white privilege of the USA and American supremacy (racism)   The US is the most corrupted, criminal, depraved and maquiavelic government in the world and Tyler Durden, you are a dumb MF & a stupid shit (who ever you are). Go fuck yourself.

Venezuela is a well-known target of the BIS and IMF.  It is being punished for refusing to play ball.  Frankly, it annoys me that ZH runs these propaganda pieces talking about a "socialist utopia" there, without mentioning those rather important elements of the equation.  But ZH makes up for it with stories about the Fed and the socialist utopia that exists in the West for the oligarchs and politicians (while the rest of us run on the treadmill to buy "health insurance" for $1000/month and pay our taxes to fund our socialist masters), so I can get over it.

Ironically, Venezuela probably treats its vets better than the US does.  I suppose that's because we live in a capitalist paradise?I happen to think that capitalism (with the right balance of anti-oligarch control by the People, which is not socialism) is the desired model.  But what we have is socialism for the oligarchs and crony-capitalism for everyone else.  Yes, our system is better than Venezuela's, but Venezuela's problems have a lot to do with the same people who make our system so fucked up.

For all the talk about socialism vs capitalism, one key point is missed,51.6% Mestizo2.9% Black43.6% WhiteMore than half the venezuelan population are ignorant, lazy, and dishonest conmen that prefer getting free shit from the government than doing an honest day work. Any resemblance to African Dictatorships is NOT merely coincidental.

The government of Venezuela just paid a big loan installment to Russia didn't it? Russia involved in all this too? What the deal is, is no country can promise Faaarrreee! shit forever to its people, someone has to make & pay for that shit and they expect to be PAID.Play ball?...no one gives a rats ass about Venezuela the place...the PEOPLE we all care about and what Chavez and his brat kids have done and what Maduro continues to do is a travesty. At least Maduro dropped that lame ass green BDU so popular with Chavez, Che & Fidel but that doesn't make him a fiscal genius.

I don't think anyone on this thread is supporting Maduro.  He's an asshole who enriches himself at the expense of his people.  The point some of us are trying to make is that pinning Venezuela's problems on "socialism" without exploring all of the other factors at work is like saying that a 1983 V8 Mustang is not as good as a 2017 Lexus V10 because the Lexus has a larger engine.

The point is, socialism takes individual profit away unto itself for "redistribution" as it see's fit. Chavez nationalized (like I said) basically everything in the country, no risk, no reward just everyone standing around waiting on Papa Government with their hand out while the "socialist elite" running Papa Government get rich. There is exactly zero difference between a rightwing dictator and a leftwing dictator in this regard...they SEE the opportunity to INDIVIDUALLY gain wealth because of the position they hold that they have DENIED to everyone else to keep them dependent. Human nature is a funny thing, it needs morals & ethics to contain itself ;-)

As the poster below mentions, Maduro was a response to another kind of redistribution, of the variety we're experiencing in the West.  You and I agree that nationalizing of productive assets is a bad thing.  You and I also agree that America became the success that it is because of capitalism.   Where we're missing each other is on how and why Venezuela ended up in its current situation.  As Kaiser Sousa points out, the same forces are at work here, regardless of what you call them.

Sorry bout that, my turn to cook the bacon...lol.Well the "forces" are many things and not as all inclusive as one might think (like Kaiser Sousa apparently does). Russia is a "state player" and it wanted its payment just like any other. As AurorusBorealus points out below (before he falls back on the shop worn American boogeyman complex of the 50's-60's) many nations are involved to one degree or another but the Chavez/Maduro paranoia ploy to keep the people confused (in my opinion) is just about played out.Again, "the issue" is state control and cronyism. Maduro took over Chavez' families & vested interests with assorted hangers-on when he croaked...but he's in a box now, THOSE interests expect STATE protection from him. The elite of Venezuela do not lack for toilet paper I can assure you of that. The soldiers in those pics got what the government protected elites didn't take for themselves...leftoversIts has always been thus. At the end of the day a government will not save you given its choices, you will have to do that yourself ;-)

"At the end of the day a government will not save you given its choices, you will have to do that yourself"By myself, or with the help of others?  When the founders of this country decided to stand up to the Brits, they got together and formed a ... wait for it ... government..  When the US built railroads, it did so with the force of law (taking of land, often at the end of a gun to both indians and landowners who didn't want to sell).  Your ideology, nmewn, may be well-meaning but it is simplistic.   There is no perfect system or ideology, but the best of them require cooperation among like-minded people, including force for those who don't want to play along.  In the current paradigm, we have a few hundred families that don't want to play along.  They own half of the world and they aim for more.  Guys like you are egging them on.
