Japan Deploys Patriot Missiles To Shoot Down North Korean Rockets

Following North Korea's threat on Wednesday to fire ballistic missiles over Japan toward Guam, it was only a matter of time before Japan - which overnight said it has the authority to shoot down any such projectile above its territory - took appropriate steps, and according to the Nikkei, the Japanese government is starting to deploy Patriot missile interceptors in its western regions ahead of a North Korean launch.

The move comes after the North Korean military said it is developing a plan to fire intermediate-range missiles into waters 30km to 40km off the coast of Guam, and elaborated that the rockets would fly over parts of Japan and Patriot batteries would likely be positioned in those parts of Japan mentioned by North Korea. The KCNA report mentioned Shimane, Hiroshima and Kochi prefectures in the western regions of Chugoku and Shikoku. Shimane is the closest to North Korea, lying on the Sea of Japan. Kochi would represent the last big land area before the missiles reach the Pacific Ocean.

The Hwasong-12 rockets to be launched by the KPA will cross the sky above Shimane, Hiroshima and Koichi Prefectures of Japan. They will fly 3356.7 km for 1065 seconds and hit the waters 30 to 40 km away from Guam.

According to Nikkei, "Japan will consider exercising the right to collective self-defense by shooting them down."

"We will consider various factors and take the necessary measures," Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told reporters Thursday when asked about the possibility of Patriot interceptors being deployed in regions under the missiles' expected path.

As the Nikkei adds, Japan's two-tiered missile defense system consists of the sea-based Standard Missile-3, which targets incoming missiles at the peak of their trajectory, and the land-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3, which targets them as they fall.

Currently, Japan's Air Self-Defense Force has PAC-3 batteries in about 15 locations across the country, none of them in Chugoku or Shikoku. The ground-transportable interceptors would likely be moved into those regions from nearby ASDF bases.

Am I imagining things, or did Trump just goad Kim into giving Japan every reason in the world to shoot down every missile test they do now?Kim's regime is not stupid, but they've really pushed the bluster too far this time, they're starting to limit themselves by giving the western nations absolutely no reason to trust their actions.

At first the .Gov claimed 40%-79% accuracy for the Patriot.  Then Desert Storm came around and it dropped to 9%, although the Israelis say it was closer to 2% (Jews are never happy, even with free stuff).  When Sec. of Defense Cohen left office, he said they never worked at all.  It's all academic anyway.  The US Government will lie through it's teeth to start another conflict, the MIC will make a boatload of money and the Overlords will be pleased.  Nothing different from the last time (or the time before that, etc.).

I can't see why NK wouldn't already have people here in the US with chemical and biological agents in major metro areas just waiting for the signal. To imagine, as the US claims to be, that attacking another country in such a way that it wouldn't be "misinterpreted" as a hostile attack is some fucking crazy shit, afaic. An attack is an attack, an act of war.  Hey, Yankees, not worry, it only one attack for one attack, eye for eye . . . please not to misinterpret!

"Insanity. Negotiation and trade.

Millions of South Koreans will die if war breaks out, not to mention the North Korean people."

You forgot 300 million Americans that will also die via Russian Federation and PRC "proxy" missiles!

This one is for the whole enchilada I'm afraid if "Rabid Dog" & pals at DOD and Langley decide to take "a nibble" on that one which will result in dentures for many "teeth" North, South, East and West!!!

Correct you are - The Korean Armistice Agreement of 1953 brought the hostilities to a close with a cease fire. The U.S. broke the agreement in 1956:“Paragraph 13(d) of the Armistice Agreement mandated that neither side introduce new weapons into Korea, other than piece-for-piece replacement of equipment. In September 1956 the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Radford indicated that the U.S. military intention was to introduce atomic weapons into Korea, which was agreed to by the U.S. National Security Council and President Eisenhower.[34] However paragraph 13(d) prevented the introduction of nuclear weapons and missiles.[35] The U.S. unilaterally abrogated paragraph 13(d), breaking the Armistice Agreement, despite concerns by United Nations allies.[36][37][38] At a meeting of the Military Armistice Commission on June 21, 1957, the U.S. informed the North Korean representatives that the United Nations Command no longer considered itself bound by paragraph 13(d) of the armistice.[39][40] In January 1958 nuclear armed Honest John missiles and 280mm atomic cannons were deployed to South Korea,[41] a year later adding nuclear armed Matador cruise missiles with the range to reach China and the Soviet Union.[37][42]”- Michael S. "Why is Japan using 3rd world technology when Russia's S400 system is supposedly the best?"

Because just like Israel blowing up it's commercial nuclear power facility on 3/11/2011 and the American occupation of it since 1945 after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese are wholly owned LLC of Yankee Jewdle's "rear end"!

Too bad that "rising sun" spirit they once held 72 years ago is all gone and that they have acquiesced to the "round eyed" monster choosing sadly to to "die on their knees instead of on their feet"!

Hope I am wrong, but rinse and repeat for Germany and the rest of the EU/Brussels controlled vassal contingent!

It's Miller Time...

Patriot missile? Like that's going to work (not)!Mach 4.1 at best against a reentry vehicle from space? I don't think so.Guam is a deception, the real targets are Okinawa and Tokyo.

IF Japan had any honor and dignity left they  would threw out MIC out of their country and talk to fat boy but since they are  utter slaves  there is no help for them. They are walking into utter dissaster all for the mighty USA. I do not even think that the Tokio inferno that is waiting for them down to line will chagne thier slavery mindset. I just feel bad for Okinawa population who try to kick the assholes out of thier island while Tokio is shitting all over them.
